This is a nice French restaurant closer to downtown Tucson. The atmosphere is great! The appetizer menu is very good. The main menu has fewer traditional French dishes than you might want. We did not have dessert but the dessert menu was more traditional French. I had the coq au Riesling (which I guess is chicken Chaucer?) And it was ok. It is served more as chicken with pan sauce (on a plate) than a traditional French stew (in a bowl). The chicken itself was inconsistent and may have been fried? The vegetables were very well done! They were definitely the highlight! The wine is disappointing. To be fair, Tucson is a long way from the Rhone! But, we've been to wine shops around town and it seems that there are better options. It's possible that the French wines we've enjoyed we're only for retail, not restaurants. We will give this restaurant another try just because of the atmosphere. Maybe they change the wine menu often and we've judged too quickly! Traditional French cuisine is a tall order in the frontier. Give this restaurant a shot if only to feel like you've stepped out of the heat and into a bouchon! read more

Not t many diners at 5:15 but a couple. Had to ask for water refills, nice warm bread. Mixed green salad with about 3 pine nuts, and a few tiny bit of goat cheese, disappointing. Husband had the beef Wellington, messy and small but tasty. I had the peppercorn steak, ordered medium rare, came cooked to death. Pointed it out and it was replaced with a gorgeous perfectly cooked filet and tasty sauce. Hadn't been a while, won't be back. Very small amounts for pretty hefty prices. We're restaurant people and have to be honest. We'll be sticking with Vivace, ALWAYS a joy, and piazza Gavi, rich flavors, good value and personable atmosphere. read more

Used my anniversary as an excuse to go to this place I've been wanting to try for awhile. We had a lovely dinner. The menu is amazing, classic French. The food was outstanding, perfect Wellington. The service was traditional and perfect. Good drink pours. The restaurant itself is in a gorgeous old Tucson building and has two dining rooms, formal and casual. Very comfortable space. So why isn't this place packed all the time? Location is rough, but try to ignore that. This place is well worth the drive. I'm gonna to be finding more excuses to eat here. read more

Very romantic and delicious French restaurant. It's a small place and hard to see from the street. The neighborhood is a little run-down but the restaurant inside is very nice and cute. The service was great and the food was delicious. We ordered the grand marinier soufflé but noticed other people were eating a chocolate soufflé that wasn't on the menu. Be sure to ask your server about any off-menu dessert options! The seasonings on the chateau briand was outstanding, and the meat was so tender. I loved my meal! read more

First time back in over 9 years and due to some questionable reviews on open table , was a little worried that it wasn't going to be as good as I remembered but it was and so much more!! I meant to photo graph our entire meal but completely forgot when the main dishes came out lol so y'all get pics of appetizer, salad and desert only, sorry! The last time we dined here (July) was absolutely 5 stars and more. New Year's Eve was another story. I made reservations well in advance and specified a nice table as it was our anniversary. When we arrived they tried to seat us at a very small table in the Bistro and not the Dining Room. After changing us to the Dining Room, we placed our orders. The onion soup had very little cheese but a lovely flavor. The bouillabaisse did not resemble any bouillabaisse we had before. It was more of a vegetable soup with a few pieces of shellfish. The Foie Gras was absolutely delicious but the serving size was more like an amuse bouche. My rack of lamb was tough and impossible to cut and upon telling the server, she asked if I would like to box it up and take it home???? My husband's Sea Bass looked all right but nothing special. Finally dessert, in which I got two dried out eclairs that seemed as though were prepared the day before and were old and dry and flavorless and no cream to speak of in the middle. Even though we mentioned several times it was our anniversary, nothing was done special for us for the occasion. We will definitely go back, but not on New Year's Eve. Our first visit in July was so amazing and I definitely want to go back and have the fabulous dinner and experience we had before. read more

We have not had a meal this good in decades, and we're very dedicated gourmands who have lived and traveled all around the country. The best restaurants to which I could compare it have all gone out of business, mostly because they could not figure out how to balance the focus on economics and on quality well enough to survive. Such a disappointment!! Went for a birthday dinner.. was rushed thru the meal.. I ordered the Char which was the special.. it came out over cooked and shrunken up.. I sent it back and they cooked it correctly the 2 Nd time.... they never mentioned a birthday so I asked and asked it to go.. it was sloppily put into a warped plastic container.. Rendez-vous used to be a great favorite.. may return only for small plates for lunch but never again for dinner or certainly not for any special occasions.. read more

Classic French cuisine very well executed. One of our favorite restaurants in Tucson. A good selection of appetizers. There are several excellent desserts but we usually give the waiter an early heads-up that we plan on souffle for dessert. It's irresistible and we hardly ever cook souffle at home. I lean towards the Boeuf Wellington but am generally pleased with other entrees when I try them. If you are not in the mood for a formal dinner, eat from the bistro menu. read more

Visiting from out of the area. Soup du jour was cauliflower scallop. Delicious! Except there was no detectable cauliflower. Tasted like cream of mushroom with some scallops thrown in. Entree was medallions of veal with potatoes Anna. Veg was a mixture of tomatoes, mushrooms & kale. Veal was poorly trimmed...raggedy hunk hanging off one, fat blob on another. And, sadly, overcooked and a bit tough. The potatoes & veg were poorly seasoned. No detectable salt in one bite, overwhelming amounts in the next. The potatoes were dry as a bone. Dessert was the Grand Mariner soufflé. Beautifully baked and looked wonderful. Horribly sweet and a total miss. Wouldn't recommend and would never go back. Service wasn't great either. Very long waits, no offer of coffee or a second glass of wine and we had to push our dishes across the table to hint they they needed picking up. read more

We came here for the chocolate souffle. Free glass of wine with Yelp cheech in was a nice surprise. The food was fine. A little pricey and the decor was quite shabby. Needs a good cleaning and an interior design refresh. We may be back to try something more substantial. read more

I loved the food here and the ambiance inside. We were sat in the corner by the kitchen at a very quaint table for 2 and the restaurant was fairly busy; most of the tables were full. Our server was kind and attentive and I don't 100% recall which wine I ordered but I believe I did get a taste of something that was too sweet for me and decided on the Pinot Noir. I started out with a pear salad with goat cheese that I haven't stopped thinking about since I left. My boyfriend had the French onion soup which was also good. I had the duck which was phenomenal and my boyfriend had the beef Wellington (by 8:30pm they were out of the entree, but they were able to build one for him by combining the Mini Wellington small plates). We were sat under the air conditioning unit which started spewing ice on me at one point... we found it hilarious and the restaurant also gave us our two desserts for free because of it. They are closed for a month right now but do not hesitate to go to this restaurant when it reopens! read more

One of our go-to places for a special dinner. Sooo many great choices, but some of my favorites are the Brie en Croute and the Coq au Riesling, though the coquille st. Jacques is always wonderful. When we can eat-in again, I'll look forward to their Souffle Gran Marnier, but until then, I savor the occasional treat from Le Rendezvous, even with the more limited take-out menu. We recently spent our one year anniversary trip revisiting where we got married, minus the stress and the guests! Wanting to go off of our resort for one night and enjoy one of our favorite foods/meals , we were lead to Le Rendezvous. Because we were staying at our wedding venue on Starr Pass, and were likely to have wine, we took an Uber. For a few minutes, I wondered where we were headed, but the lengthy trip was worth it! We were warmly greeted and seated in the dining room upon our arrival. The dining room is small and quaint and the Rat Pack crooned over the sound system adding a nice ambience. It was, our wedding reception music, after all!! Did they know?! There is a Yelp check in offer for a gratis glass of wine , but we opted for a French 75. This classic lemony martini topped with champagne was handshaken at our table.. the extra left in the martini shaker for us. Nice! I would not come close to finishing this drink and I knew pretty quickly that if I tried, I would be done. It was good, but it packed a punch!! The wine list, primarily French wines from all the various regions in France, was impressive! I spent several minutes trying to decide what would be my wine for dinner! Our server, was so gracious and friendly .. he knew the menu backwards and forwards and recommended dishes and wine to me when I was hung up on what to order. The menu is classic French but was missing Foie Gras, which I love ! He excused himself for a second and asked the chef if they could grant my wish: Voila! Wish granted! I ended up not going with the foie gras, after all of that, as my main was a Beef Wellington, which is rich and wrapped in foie gras. Can I ever just make my mind up ?! I started with the Salade de Epinard: a spinach Salad with carmelized sweet onions, chèvre , perfect crisps of lardons amongst the perfect Dijon vinagrette.. THIS could have been my main! I was quickly taken back to Cafe du Trocadero in Paris where I had this salad all the time ! My husband ordered the pate to start. This starter was a tremendous amount of pate! So rich and filling ! He also had the Gratin du Oignon, a steaming rich , bubbling gratin of French onion soup that was bubbling with delightful Guyere cheese on top. Next we both opted for the Beef Wellington. This isn't a dish that is often offered on menus and I've only seen it once , maybe?, in Phoenix .. so it's a treat, when prepared correctly. This Beef Wellington was an ample serving of filet , tucked amidst foie gras and baked rare within a perfect , flaky warm crust that was melt in your mouth heaven! Our dishes were served with crisp yet tender pomme des Annas, potatoes that were just perfectly crisp and seasoned and also vegetables to balance the meal. This Beef Wellington was outstanding and perfectly prepared! There was so much of it, and it's so rich , there was no way either of us could complete our meals. This wasn't your typical upscale meal, where the food is all about looking decorative and not a lot to eat; NO! These portions were a lot for a French , upscale restaurant! Next came out dessert, the waiter brought us a Grand Marnier Soufflé to share for our anniversary celebration ! The concierge at our wedding resort must have set that up! Literally, I've never seen a soufflé so puffy and perfect! It came with Chantilly Creme and again... so very French! This meal was one of my husbands and my favorites likely for the year... and as you can see from my reviews, we travel and we eat a lot!! I can't say enough about Le Rendezvous and how amazing the food was here! The entire experience was almost as perfect as it could be outside of France... even the waiter snapping at his helper was authentic! ( Yes! I was very disappointed with the entire dining experience. I hadn't eaten here in a while, but loved it the first time and had wanted to come back so badly. After tonight, I will never go back. We ordered mussels to start, as did the woman beside is who ordered just before we did. We got ours 10 minutes before hers. They were tasty, but very gritty with sand. Upsetting for a $12+ appetizer. I was hungry and wondering why we hadn't gotten a basket of bread like everyone else. After about 15 minutes I managed to grab someone's attention and ask for some bread. Another server eventually dropped it off about 5 minutes later. Meanwhile the woman beside us and another table seated after us had already received their entrees. The bread tasted like supermarket bakery bread. Edible but not what I'd expect from a restaurant of this class. 60 minutes into our reservation I went to the three staff standing at the bar and asked to check on our entrees. By the time I sat back down, the food was on its way. After seeing our plates, it was clear they'd been sitting under a heat lamp for quite a while. Everything on the plates was overcooked! I took a bite of a scallop and was disappointed. It was very gritty with sand - and stringy, rubbery and rather tasteless. I went up to the bar and asked to have it taken away. The other entree, salmon, was completely overcooked and dry. Not acceptable for a $24 plate. Based on appearance alone it shouldn't have been served. When paying what was left of the bill I asked to speak to the manager. I was astonished to find out there wasn't one on duty. Unbelievable. I feel bad for the young and inexperienced wait staff that were trying to run the place themselves with no support. The owner should be ashamed. read more

I came to Le Rendez-vous for my birthday, and it was better than I could have imagined. From the Brie en Croute to the Grand Marnier Souffle, every little thing was perfect. It had its flaws, sure: it was very, very loud, and like many of Tucson's most incredible restaurants, the speed of service is slower than I'm used to. But unlike some of the others, someone was always nearby to refill a drink or answer questions. The menu was intimidating for my father, who won't eat fish, and who prefers his meat well done. In the end, he ordered veal, but was sad to find that it was also barely cooked. I usually feel the same way, but my Boeuf Wellington was among the best things I've ever eaten, served medium rare. I ordered the Vichyssoise soup, which I can barely pronounce. I'm always excited to try the soup at a nice restaurant, and this one did not disappoint. It was cool, fresh, and delicious. Although it took us more than two hours from start to finish (including dessert), Le Rendez-vous now sits high atop my list of extremely nice restaurants for special occasions. The staff is polite and helpful. The prices here are quite high, for Tucson dining. But the food and the experience justify it, and a restaurant that delivers four courses without a single bad bite is hard to find. read more

We went to Rendezvous for my birthday and the food and ambience made my day perfect! We all decided to share appetizers and entrees so that we could all try as many items as possible. We ordered the scallop appetizer, escargots, the French onion soup, the Brie en croute and the frog leg appetizer. Everything was served piping hot and beautifully presented. Several of our party had never had any of these delicacies before and everyone was impressed! For dinner we had the duck, beef Wellington, the fish of the day, and the veal. The meats were tender and flavorful, the fish was delicate and delicious and the duck was juicy and cooked just right!! The owner, Gordon, checked in just to make sure all was well, and his polite professionalism was a lovely end to a wonderful meal. The creme brûlée was to die for and a perfect end to the day. The four most recent reviews have been far from favorable. One of them, I think, is just a question of taste -- and luck. You go to a 5-star restaurant on an off-night, it's expensive, the service is slow, so it's a 1-star place for your evening. As for Roberta's review and 2 stars, I think she's wrong, but probably also for the reasons above. I *do* agree that they don't put enough new stuff on the menu, but I certainly wouldn't call the desserts old and tired. They're "tried and true", they're what the customers want. They're made by their own pastry chef, not imported, what more do you want? Ask if they have any specials. As for the 3-star New Year's Eve review, I'm baffled. The lady says that the food was perfect, only the service was a little slow. For this she downrates it to 3 stars? (By the way, the sorbet was apple-flavored with Calvados, not a pear sherbet.) I was there that evening from 7:30 to about 10 and had the same meal and it was one of the very best I have ever had outside of France. Everything was perfect, including the service. That said, I will admit that I am a well-known regular there, I can speak French with some of the staff, and I was all alone at my table -- and I did notice that as the evening wore on and the restaurant filled other tables were probably not being served as quickly as they might have wanted. On the other hand, there were at least three additional waiters and waitresses there in addition to the regular staff. As far as the gentleman who complains about the dregs off the street, I don't know what star he's visiting from -- all the staff at the restaurant have *always* been highly competent, highly professional men and women. He must be talking about another restaurant. A final word: there is absolutely no other restaurant in Tucson that would have even attempted to offer the menu that we enjoyed on New Year's Eve -- there were highly labor-intensive items such as the "quenelles" and "oysters rockefeller" that are *never* on their regular menu, much as I wish they were. If I could have had a tasting menu with 20 different dishes that evening, I would have -- one bite of each would have been paradise! All in all, it is *still* a 5-star restaurant no matter what *anyone* says. (Just to put the critics' views into perspective: Yelp what is generally considered to be the best restaurant in the United States, The French Laundry in Yountville, California. It has 602 reviews, of which 456 are, of course, 5-star. And yet, and yet.... there are *fourteen* (14!) 1-star reviews. For the best restaurant in the United States! I came here with my husband for the UYE (unofficial yelp event). It was the best and we had such a good time at this amazing restaurant with amazing yelp friends! The food was very delicious, the service attentive, and price amazing (we got the extended happy hour pricing--yippes!). Everything we ordered from the happy hour menu and the small plate menu was extremely tasty. I loved my heavenly garlic butter escargots, and my husband loved his creamy enormous scallops. We were also very happy with the shrimp stuffed with crab, beef wellington, and the chocolate cake. Very embarrassingly, we couldn't stop ourselves from stealing bites from our good-hearted yelp neighbors of their delicious baked brie and puff pastry. Geez, everything was soooooo good here! The only dish that we probably weren't totally in love with was the mussels in white sauce. We just realized that we preferred mussels in red sauce, and we kind of had a butter overload that night so white sauce was a bit overwhelming on top of that. Oops, our fault! Still, it was a very substantial (and tasty) dish, for only $5.5 from the happy hour menu! If you like mussels and want your fair share of butter, this is definitely for you! Granted, we didn't order anything from the full-price menu, but we certainly will come back and try every item! For the yelp gathering that night, Gordon, the generous owner gave us the extended happy hour pricing, which is simply too good to pass up! For $5.5, we got to sample a wide selection of *full-sized* dishes that literally made all ~20 of us do a happy dance afterwards. If you miss the happy hour time, the small plate menu offers another opportunity of discounted goodness (however, a bit more expensive, and in smaller portion). Therefore, if you want to sample French cuisine and care about your wallet, the happy hour is such a wonderful deal! The place is dressier than I expected--the diners we saw were all well-groomed and seemed to be here for a special occasion. We yelpers were definitely the louder, bigger group there--people didn't seem to mind except one. There was one incident during the meal where one yelper and that particular diner in question had issues with getting in and out of the small narrow space, the servers quickly threw themselves in between the two grown men to prevent the arguments from quickly escalating. I don't condone public confrontational behavior (from anyone, yelper or not!), but I applaud the professional staff of Le Rendez-vous for quickly managing a tense situation and de-escalating any conflict! After our unfortunate previous attempt to dine at Le Rendez-vous, the owner, Gordon, asked me to please reconsider and offered a free entree if I would make a reservation and give his place another try. Since this meant I would no longer be an anonymous reviewer, I decided to bring a lot of friends just to stir things up, At seven o'clock on a Friday the restaurant was quite busy, but I was greeted at the door (by name) and taken directly to a large table in the back. Service was friendly and attentive to the extreme--glasses refilled before they were half empty--but at a relaxed pace. We ordered some wine and were served warm crusty French bread with good butter at an almost perfect temperature before ordering appetizers. Of course, the one that looked the tastiest to my husband and me, the champignons, was not available. Appetizers came out relatively quickly. My friend's salad was quite large, a meal in itself. I tried the escargot and the frog's legs, neither of which I had ever tasted before, and the brie. The escargot were a delightful small vehicle for the brilliant garlic butter, which my husband consumed with the rest of the bread. The breading on the frog's legs was crisp and familiar, although I found the meat itself somewhat bland. The brie, sweet and creamy, tasted almost like something you'd eat for a Sunday brunch. Many of the dishes here offer creative uses of fruit. Of the entrees, the beef Wellington was the standout dish. Two of our party ordered it. One person felt her meat was underdone, but still good. I sampled the other dish and found it perfect. My husband's veal was also extremely tender. I ordered the duck, which came with a surprising cherry sauce, good but unexpected. The stuffed shrimp were tasty and well-cooked. The coq au vin was my least favorite dish, but as I had never tried this before either, I'm not certain how it would rank among coq au vin. While we were eating, our server asked if anyone wanted to order a Grand Marnier souffle (because it takes 40 minutes) and yes, we did. I saved half my duck to be sure I would have room for the souffle. It came out shortly after we finished our entrees, along with coffee. The souffles were light and fluffy but much eggier than what I'm used to. The sauce was excellent. The check appeared on the table without anyone really noticing it, and when we did try to divvy it up, our server returned and offered to bring us separate checks. However, she only came back for three out of the four, and we never saw her again. Eventually, I handed the fourth bill to the only server I could find and asked him to give it to her. We waited a while but she didn't come back with the receipt, and since the last tab had been paid in cash, we left. Overall, I greatly enjoyed our Le Rendez-Vous experience. Although it is quite expensive for Tucson, they do not skimp on the portions. Half the people in our party were too full for dessert. This is a fun place to come for a very special treat read more

The food as it has always been wonderful, predictable. My husband and I were so looking forward to taking our 11 year old to her first fine dining experience. The service was horrible. Bar none horrible. We finished the bread before anyone asked if wanted wine or cocktails . Never were asked if we need anything else to drink. We had to flag down someone to fill our water. We will never return. Hacienda Del Sol will get our money next time, I am glad we didn't bring guests. I would have been mortified, apologizing for the poor service. read more

Drooollllllll Don't think of it as snails, think of it as buttery juicy ...things. But get the damn escargot. So. Good. And ask for extra bread to dip it into the fatty garlicky buttery goodness juice when the escargot is gone. The duck is spectacular and the beef Wellington - wow. literally falls apart in your mouth. I sometimes can't decide between eating quickly so that others wont have a chance to munch at my food too or slowly so that I could enjoy mine more. To top it off, the Creme brûlée is to die for. The price isn't too bad and honestly WORTH it. Make reservations ahead of time and don't expect spectacular service (3.5/5 on that) , only spectacular food (and sometimes, that's enough) read more
