This is our first nite in Paris and we were staying nearby. The staffs were all very nice. I got a simple ham and mushroom omelette which was cooked a bit runny for my taste, but I didn't mind one bit. My wife got the beef tartare which she excitedly enjoyed and the portion was pretty darn generous. My son got the Sun special of chicken with mash potatoes which for that low price, it was quite worth it. We also shared an order of escargot which was yum yum delicious. Le Petit Cler was the first meal of our vacation in Paris. Our AirBNB host recommended the cute cafe. Delicious, the trip was off to a great start! We went early on a Saturday morning and were able to grab a table in the enclosed "outside" area. The heat lamps made it very comfortable on the cold rainy morning. I ordered the popular Croque Madame. The dish is crispy bread toasted with ham and cheese topped with a fried egg. YUM!! It's one of those things you almost want to order another when you finish eating it. We liked it so much, we came back on the last morning of our trip and ordered it again. Definitely try this dish if you dine here. My fiancé ordered the Saturday special of duck confit. Mashed potatoes with tasty morsels of duck mixed in, what's not to love? Service was attentive. This was our first lunch in Paris off the plane. Searches Yelp: "Croque Madam." Results: Le Petit Cler = and I can confirm the results lead us to the right place and will not disappoint. To the biz owner - Yelp is literally sending you hundreds of people based off of this search, and yes we are walking cliches. The restaurant is super cute with a traditional Parisan patio out front, and even comes equipped with heaters. We split the Croque Madam because it was huge. I bookmarked this cafe based on the Yelp reviews and because it was close to our hotel. Was worth the visit and actually one of the best places we ate in while in Paris. We went for a late "breakfast" one morning (during the week and not crowded at all - which was great for us) and were greeted by a very nice waiter who did his best to communicate with us in English. The cafe is adorable inside - traditional Parisian cafe. Food: Mom ordered the carrot soup, which was "out of this world" and the vegetarienne, which had all FRESH vegetables on it. My kid and I ordered the croque monsieur - his with no ham, mine with it, both which came with small side salad. It was amazing! The bread was so crisp and the cheese melted perfectly on top. I have had a couple of different versions of the croque monsieur this week, and this one was the best. Unfortunately, we didn't get to try anything else on the (somewhat limited) menu. The best croque monsieur I've had during my four days in Paris, specifically checking out the toasties. They have the perfect balance of bread, meat and cheese. The cheese is perfectly melted and crisped. We were served by an East Indian who spoke very fluent English. He was attentive and helpful. He checked on us several times. I read online that this place has the best croque monsieur (a decadent traditional French ham and cheese sandwich) in Paris, and online was right. Wow. What a delicious meal. I was starving at 10 PM last night, and was just desperately googling where to go to dinner in Paris. I walked into the PACKED restaurant, expecting to have to wait at least 40 minutes, but the maître d' sat me right away! I had tapwater for free - a rarity in Europe! And then I got the sandwich and a side salad (side salad free! Yay!). The sandwich was perfectly savory and rich. Not too much cheese, not too much ham, not too much bread (trust me, most places mess this up ALL the time somehow). I felt like a very valuable customer here and I would most certainly return. Cool floors if you're into that Instagram type content when you go out to eat. I saw a lot of people eating ice cream there too, so it was probably really good! I'd have to go back and see, haha! They even have free wifi and don't get mad if you linger a little longer just to search the web. Great attentive service. Everyone here on the staff spoke French and English I asked the server what they were known for/what's their customers' favorite dish. He pointed me to a grilled chicken with a sort of sweet glaze severed alongside a sweet baked potato and arugula salad. It was fresh simple and delicious. The baked potato NEEDED NOTHING, no salt, no butter, no seasoning , no sour cream and was one of the best baked potatoes I've had in my life. The shop is along a closed off street across from a fresh fruit stand which adds to local flavor and gives you more of a small town feel even in the heart of Paris. Price: I paid about 19 euros for my meal, water, earl grey tea and lemon cake. Which seemed more than fair. Crowd: Perfect for groups of 2-4. Larger parties may have issues being accommodated in the smaller more cozy layout. Highly recommend for food or even a few glasses of chilled champagne sitting out on the sidewalk. My fiancé and I went here without a reservation at 7:30pm on a Tuesday evening. It was busy when we got there but there was a couple of tables open. The sever asked if we had made a reservation and after I told him we had not, he went inside for a second and let us know we could sit outside. I speak some French, especially once I have a few glasses of wine. So I only spoke French to the wait staff. They were very polite and I was able to it all ordered. Many other American couples were able to order in English with no problem. The drinks: I ordered a martini. It's my mistake for not looking it up. But in France they'll ask you "rouge ou blanc" a (red or white martini). Anyways, don't expect a dirty martini to be brought out. The martini rouge they brought out was sweet and strong. I then followed my fiancé's lead and ordered a couple merlots. You're in Paris, stick with the wine. As it was very good. The food: I had the "plat du jour" which was the beef lasagna. It was terrific. The cheese was creamy and the flavors were nice. My fiancé ordered the flank steak and when I asked him if he liked it he said "yes". Had the pleasure of coming here for lunch right before heading to see the Eiffel Tower on a Sunday afternoon. Was greeted by the friendly staff, and seated right away. Food: My friend ordered their duck cooked medium, and it was absolutely delicious! It was tender, full of flavor and cooked perfectly! I ordered the chicken which was a part of their daily specials. The chicken itself was on the dryer side, but the au jus it came with was so deliciously flavorful that it really brought the whole meal together really well! The mash potatoes was also a great pairing. Drinks Cafe frappe - the waiter described this more like a shake, but it's probably more similar to an ice coffee. They do add syrup inside, so it was a bit too sweet for my taste. Cappuccino - the cappuccino was good, and it came with a piece of dark chocolate. Chocolate always adds a nice touch! The ambiance is cozy, and I feel like it's also a different vibe when you sit indoors and outside. The waiters were very friendly and helpful. All of them seem to speak both English and french, and really made he overall experience really great! This is basically a huge bratwurst on top of some lentils and boiled potatoes. The colors were vivid and beautiful - yellows, greens, dark roasted browns. Ouuus and ahhs all around. I had never had lentils before, but I was hopeful. I figured, if Socrates, the greatest philosopher of all time, can lay around naked eating lentils everyday of his life, then... lentils are probably good? Nope. They're the blandest thing ever. I felt like I was eating unflavored beans with random, not thoroughly boiled yellow potato chunks. No tasty flavors. No differing textures. No real chemistry here. I don't understand why boiled potatoes were paired with lentils. There's too much mush! It's like eating white rice with mashed potatoes. You can't pair two things that share the same texture and flavor together. It's just too much. I think I would have appreciated something a little lighter as a compliment - a small salad, some fruit? Basically, I felt like I got full off of plebeian food. Socrates, what the hell?! But, also, this is soo Socrates. If anyone has read the Republic by Plato, please DM me and allow me to discuss why it is that I now disagree with Socrates about his being okay with only eating lentils and beans vs living an overindulgent life eating fatty, hearty meats and other succulents. I would rather live in an "unhealthy" society where people actually use salt, thank you very much. To top it off, the service was dismissive, inattentive and pretentious. We had to wait a long time for water and baguettes. And then, we had to wait even longer to get our orders in. And then, wait again for our checks. The food and service here was great. The escargot was so tasty, the duck was really juicy and tender, the steak was a bit over cooked but still good. Their fried potato was really good, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The creme brulee was good but could have probably done without it. They also had a pretty good wine selection. This quaint little cafe is located off Rue Cler which is an area in the 7th Arrondisement with all kinds of outdoor markets, cafes, bars, patisseries and floral shops. Our apartment was right around the corner where we stayed so we took advantage of this area. This cafe offers both patio dining and inside dining. We sat inside to avoid all the smokers but still had the advantage of feeling the beautiful summer evening since the restaurant is very open. We chose to dine here on our last night in Paris and wish we would have ate here a couple more times. Both entrees we ordered were amazing but I was partial to my sautéed chicken which was marinated in coconut milk and red curry. I took a chance ordering this dish since it was outside my comfort zone but I was so impressed with all the flavor that this chicken had. The flavors of the red curry just took my taste buds on a delicious ride. My entree was accompanied by a salad and baked potato with a fresh herb cream. My husband enjoyed the flank steak which I had a bite and it was extremely tender and succulent. We shared a small bottle of 2012 Haut -Medoc (Moulin de la Lagune) red wine. Simply amazing and it went so well with our dinner. We also shared a digestif which was a French cognac. This went down smooth and easy! The service was outstanding and although we were Americans, they treated us very well, didn't mind our attempts at speaking French and made us feel right at home. I asked the waiter if I could move to the table next to my friend so we could chat and ppl watch together and he said no..when the restaurant was basically empty during the dinner rush. If more people were going to come they would've already. When we left the restaurant it was still empty so I don't get why he wasn't willing to accommodate. I really enjoyed my experience at Le Petite Cler. I ordered the daily special which was a pounded and tenderized breast of chicken with a small side of penne and roquette salad, and my date ordered the rump steak which came with a small roquette salad and large baked potato. Both dishes were very simple and delicious. Both the chicken and steak were so tender and the flavor of both were lead by the quality and freshness of the meats and very skilled execution by the chef. No heavy spices or sauces to mask the true flavor of the perfect and uncomplicated flavor of the dish. Our server was special. An energetic and engaging young man who is finishing his degree in hotel and restaurant management here in Paris. His name is Barman and he speaks Six languages. He went out of his way for us as well as the others in his area. He moved graciously at the speed of light through a crowded sidewalk bistro. He even took some time to encourage me to speak some French. We are staying on rue cler all week and there are several excellent places to eat. I am certain we will be returning for a lunch or another dinner. While the selection on this menu was not as large as on some of the surrounding restaurants, the food was delicious and it is evident that they focus their attention on each dish that leaves their kitchen. The seating was close quarters, but comfortable. Everyone around us was speaking French. There was a fairly healthy mix of tourists and locals from what I could tell. The prices were not as high as other restaurants on the block. The average cost seemed to hover around €14-17 for meals and 5-7€ for drinks. This is not the type of place I would take children or the whole family. It is a bistro on rue cler. Be patient, open minded and you'll enjoy yourself a lot more. read more
