Our entrees

I enjoy tours of capitals but what elevated this tour was an amazing lunch at the end of it. We visited on a Monday so the government wasn't in session. My husband and I along with many others chose to eat in the restaurant. What a treat! French cuisine in an opulent atmosphere. We shared the escargot appetizer. I had the special of the day which was pasta with lobster. My husband had the mushroom tart. Everything was served elegantly in bite sized pieces. The dresser looked good but we didn't have room.

This hidden gem is inside the Parliament Building. My husband and I went to Quebec on our honeymoon and we heard about this restaurant from the tour guide who gave us a sleigh ride. The room felt like you were in the middle of a Beauty and Beast scene. The set up was fancy and the pricing was reasonable. There weren't a lot of people there during lunch time and our server was very friendly. I recommend the vegetable pea soup--it was delicious!

To put that in perspective, you can get a 14 oz steak for $70 at the fancy steak joint nearby. Come here for the vibe, the $5 hand made taffy roll (that you can get for $3 in the corner store) but watch out for the waiter's upsell recommendations. If you bring the kids, may be the kids plats is the way to go as you get the Taffy included.

We were seated on the patio and our very sweet server was right out to take our drink order. Since we are eating Poutine all over Canada in search of our favorite. We so enjoyed sitting on the patio, it was a beautiful day, we were people watching and enjoying the umbrellas place up the alley. Our poutine was delivered to the table and I can honestly say it was our favorite. The fries were crunch and creamy on the inside. The gravy was rich and had a deep flavor and the cheese curds had lightly melted. Every bite was perfect. The eatery and bar are tucked into a stone house that dates back to 1668, if only the walls could talk. The bar and restaurant feature local Quebec cuisine and is a gem. The service was excellent as was the atmosphere.

It is quaint and small and we could see our family and even shared some food since we Were close enough. The cheese fondue is not to be missed . It was absolutely the perfect start to our meal. Then we shared an original poutine and it also was delicious- best I had on our trip thus far! I ordered mussels for my meal and a steaming pot arrived and they were yummy. Ambiance and service were great. They accommodated our awful French attempts. Drinks were large. Honestly, I feel lucky to have dined here. Everything was wonderful!

They were right next to the large pick-up window looking into the kitchen, and our host then said "These are the people who will be preparing your dinner", and introduced us to each person in the kitchen... by name. This is a very small place, cozy and atmospheric. If there are just two of you, sitting at the bar is the way to go. It's where you really feel the vibe and see what makes this place so special. The food is off the hook, and changes so frequently that it's pointless for me to highlight specific dishes. We had an amazing charred broccolli, a seasonal morel dish, razor clams, and unique egg mayo concoction. Doesn't matter. the food will be exceptional whatever they are serving. Thier Michelin Bib Gourmand (exceptional food at reasonable prices) designation is well deserved. But if the soul of Buvette Scott is the food, the heart is Marine, who appeared to be the only server on duty while we were there. She is a transplanted Brit (I believe), with a quick smile and a sassy outlook. Even as busy as she was, she had the time to engage us and make us feel like we were old friends. Stories were told, laughing was had. We were the last two left from the first dinner seating that day, and Marine and part of the kitchen team sat at the bar with us as we finished and shared insights about Quebec City and how they ended up there. Rarely have I felt so comfortable and at home in a place I have never been before. Really good restaurants serve up really good food... But truly great restaurants provide an experience that impacts you on many levels, and holds a place in your memory. Buvette Scott is a truly great restaurant.

My wife ordered the Eggs Benedict (with ingredients I did not know), and I had the Big (2 egg) breakfast. My wife also ordered a side of breakfast potatoes (my breakfast came with the potatoes). We cannot complain about that. Our server was friendly and very charming. The meal was beautifully paced. The restaurant itself is very noisy. The food itself was disappointing. On the recommendation of our server we started with the carrot doughnut. The doughnut itself was lost under a mountain of ricotta. I would not have known that it was carrot, except that she had told us. We ordered two other starters : I ordered the foie gras pate and my boyfriend ordered the fried oysters. The pate was served on a small layer of sunflower butter, which was unnecessary. The pate itself was surprisingly flavorless. Homemade bread and blueberry jam served alongside was quite good. The fried oysters were completely drowned in buffalo sauce, another green sauce and "blue cheese foam". I would not have even known they were oysters. They were served underneath some cucumbers and peppers and lettuce. For our main course, we shared the blood pudding, which, despite the crazy number of ingredients actually was delicious. It was the best thing we ate. It was served with homemade bacon, a roasted artichoke heart, and some mussels croquettes. Seriously a lot going on. For dessert we ordered the spiced orchard dacquoise. Another complex, and I thought overly complicated dish, that my boyfriend felt worked well. It was presented nicely, and I remembered to get a picture of it. All in all, it seemed like there's just way too much going on in each dish and no particular flavor stands out. Two of the dishes, the fried oysters and the carrot doughnut were just sloppy and smothered. The boudin and the dessert were both beautifully plated, and the flavors worked better as well. The foie gras appetizer was unfortunately bland, and the main ingredient did not shine. Maybe it was an off night? Maybe we didn't order the best things? Evidently, they're doing something right because they've been going for 50 years, but we just didn't see that.

4.5 stars - I love a good tasting menu, but it had been a while since my last one. With that being…read moresaid, I was traveling solo for the evening and decided to treat myself to an elaborate feast at Le Clan, an one Michelin-starred restaurant. Since I was on my own, I preferred not to sit at a table, so I was happy that I was able to reserve a single seat at the bar. The quaint restaurant was located on a side street off of one of the main drags in the upper town of Old Quebec. I walked in and was surprised to be face-to-face with the kitchen, which was on full display just beyond the host stand. I was escorted upstairs to the main dining room, where the friendly host checked me in and walked me through the modern, yet rustic dining room to the swanky bar area. The bar had around six seats, and there were two high-top tables in the space as well. The lighting was dim and came from round lamps, which resembled disco balls, hanging from the ceiling. There was also a small television showing the Chef's journeys across Canada to find the most natural ingredients possible. Once seated, I was greeted by the bartender, Jonathan, who was a joy to chat with throughout my meal. He explained that I had two options - either a 4-course meal or a 6-course, each available with a wine pairing. I decided that I wanted the complete experience, so I went with the longer tasting, which was still very reasonable at Can$ 119. Though I did not partake in the wine pairing, I certainly wanted a drink. I wound up getting a glass of the 2024 Chateau de Roquefort Petit Salé de Villeneuve from Provence. The crisp white wine had the aroma of freshly sliced red delicious apples. It had a ripe acidity and was medium-bodied, despite its quick finish. I was absolutely in love with the dry blend of Clairette and Vermentino grapes, so I even got a second glass. While the menu was technically in English, many of the ingredients were still in French, but I left my fate to the hands of the skilled kitchen, which was very freeing! Before the tasting courses even began, they delivered a few sample teasers to drive excitement. First came a single lentil chip carefully positioned in an upright fashion, sticking out of a bowl of dried lentils. It was served with the perfect amount of the creamiest hummus I had ever had. Next came another tasty bite that I unfortunately do not recall, but do remember liking. It was served with thickly-sliced pieces of crusty bread that a local bakery made solely for them. After the two fantastic introductions, the true procession began. First came a sliced of smoked sturgeon so fresh and tender that it melted in my mouth. It was served over a ricotta and salt cod puree and was topped with onions. Next was the red deer tartare mixed with Savora (a yellow condiment like mustard) and celery root. It was hiding beneath a sheet of sourdough crisps that were decorated with roasted chanterelles. I have always been a fan of venison, and this dish was delicious; it managed to be both hearty and light at the same time. These first two courses were my favorites of the night. The following two plates were my least favorite, though they were still excellent. In fact, these were the two that would be omitted if one were to get the 4-course tasting, so perhaps others had felt similar. There was the Atlantic halibut in a bubbling foam of what was supposed to be cuttlefish ink, but was white in color. The small chunk of fish was topped with spelt and garlic scape. It was a nice dish, but not as flavorful or memorable when compared with the others. Then, there was the rabbit served with stewed beetroot and damson plums, all in a beer syrup. I found this dish better than the halibut, but rabbit is just not really a favorite of mine. It was a creative concept for sure, but not a flavor I adored. The meal then seemed to veer back on track, starting with a perfectly prepared hunk of Angus Beef, served with a tiered stack of potato and sausage, topped with a dollop of Japanese mustard. There was also a green, earthy puree on the plate, and a lightly creamy sauce was poured over the steak tableside. Next, the kitchen surprised me yet again with a popcorn pastry covered with white chocolate and topped with actual popcorn. It was buttery and sweet, and I really liked it. Then there was another small chocolate cake with a mousse topping that came as a side dish to the final dessert course. The fresh strawberries from local Île d'Orléans were topped with a rhubarb ice cream, a meringue sprinkled with sumac, and a strawberry and geranium sauce. The tasting might have been long in terms of courses, but everything was nicely paced. I made sure to get a copy of the menu to take home, which the host noticed on my way out and let me know that he appreciated it. When I arrived at the bottom of the stairs, the busy servers exiting the kitchen made sure to send me off with their best wishes. Le Clan was really a class act!
