A mysterious little place tucked away in an alley, where you have to buzz to get in--and once you do, you discover a hidden oasis. The atmosphere is very quaint, intimate, and wonderfully dark, making the whole experience feel like you've stumbled upon a well-kept secret. The service was exceptional. Sam was incredibly attentive and offered excellent recommendations from the menu, which made choosing what to order much easier. The entire meal was unique, creative, and absolutely delicious. From the atmosphere to the food and service, this was a truly memorable dining experience. Definitely a hidden gem worth discovering! read more

Could there be a MORE FAB spot in QC!? I don't think so, jjacques IS the SPOT to go if you want a beautiful meal, incredible service, delicious food and bevies! I've been lucky enough to come twice now while on vacation to jjacques and both times were exceptional, I also funnily enough sat at the exact same table both times. The service and staff and excellent - they give great recommendations, are funny and just make you feel taken care of. Shout-out to Nathan our waiter who spoke in EN for half the table and FR for the other half haha. He was so fun! The first time I came here was with my husband and we had a lovely dinner - the salmon blinis were our fave so I knew when I was here the second time, they were a must! The second time, there were six of us so we ordered quite a bit - we had the salmon blinis with caviar, a few oysters, the cod fritters, the prawn cocktail, the mushroom tortellini, flounder crudo, and whole fried fish - for dessert we did a cheese plate with some delicious local cheese. Everything was delicious - the whole fish is a must - the skin is so crispy and tasty - has a lot of Vietnamese flavours. The cocktails are also fabulous here - I had the Mexican Firing Squad and the Jungle Bird - both delicious and easy to drink! The room itself reminds me of a cool speakeasy bar/resto you'd find in the streets of New York City. It's hidden in an alleyway behind a very unassuming door. It's all part of the magic of the restaurant. If there is one place to go for dinner in QC, go here. We booked a reso in advance and I recommend you do this to secure your spot! read more

I love the ambiance inside from a small door to inside or a little speakeasy. It's a bit dark inside but I still enjoyed the overall vibe. The staff were all very great in explaining everything about the menu. For example, if you want the beef Tomahawk ($145), they told you to order it now since it'll be a 45 minute wait. We started off with 24 oysters ($72) as we love oysters. They had different type of oysters and we enjoyed the east coast oysters. My favorite dishes that we ordered were the seared scallops ($42) and the Butterfish Tataki ($22). We were a bit disappointed in the Crab Rotolo ($36) as we didn't enjoy the combination of the sauce and crab. The scallops were cooked very well and we loved the sauce for the Tataki. The Vitello Tonnato ($22) and Cod Fritters ($15) were decent but not as good in comparison to our favorites. We throughly enjoyed our dinner here as we had a good time trying all the food and mocktails they offered. read more

What a hidden gem. We almost weren't sure if we were at the right entrance until we were led through the velvet drape to the bar area. We came here for cocktail only but already bookmarked it for dinner when we return to QC in the future. Our server was really friendly, providing recommendations and personally guided us through the cocktail menu. Our cocktails were so complex in taste that we have truly found a true speakeasy in Quebec. read more

This was my first dinner in QC. It set the stage for great meals to come. The place is hard to find it's like a secret door. I lucked up and was able to get a seat at the bar. The bartender/server was Sam and he was excellent. We discussed the menu and I settled on the gnudi like pasta and the dried whole sea bass. The flavors in the pasta were unexpected. There was mustard seed, rutabaga, and kale which turned about to be a great combination. Then there was the whole fish which was fantastic. It was fried perfectly on top of a mango cucumber slaw/salad with the addition of chili sauce. I could have been rolled out of the restaurant- I was stuffed. Sam also provided me with suggestions for other Canadian QC places and/or that I should try while visiting. If I lived in QC, I would be a regular at this place. read more

What a fun speakeasy atmosphere with incredible fresh seafood being the star performer here. Fortunately, the uber driver was familiar with the alley and unmarked doorway to show us the way. Loved the velvet curtains that when held back reveal the cozy interior with half circle booths, counter seats, and more tables in the back section. Reservations are required as it is a smallish place and it is very popular. We visited mid week and it was packed. Creative cocktails are a draw too. We were lucky to score a last minute reservation at the counter which felt like sitting at a very unique drugstore sundae bar. As you can see in the photos, the counter seats allow you to watch the chefs in action. We lost count of the seafood towers that were moving out at rapid speed. Since we were on a progressive dinner with this being our first stop, it was difficult holding back before heading out to Hono Izakaya a short walk away. We started here with oysters of course, watching them being shucked in front of us. Then the blini and smoked salmon- as beautiful to see as yummy to eat. Scallops rounded out the meal. Most dishes are tapas size so it is easy to try various plates. Service was very attentive and friendly. Everyone spoke English. Bon appetit! read more

One of the best cocktail bars/speakeasies I've ever been to. We loved this spot! It was a little tough to find, but not overly so. Once we were inside, we got settled at the bar and enjoyed some cocktails and raw bar. We loved the vibe. We also got excellent recommendations from the bartender for other places to visit in Quebec City! read more

À revisiter! read more

3.5 stars. Limited menu that is predominantly a raw bar. Had the grilled octopus. Presentation was lovely. However, the octopus was on the chewy side. I could not cut it w my butter knife. Drink menu is set up nice. Ambience in front of the house is cool and had good vibes. We were seated in the back, which was dreary. Staff was very accommodating. read more

Cool hidden gem- litterly! Professional staff, great bar and food. A true speakeasy. Highly recommend.

Great cocktails. Wasn't expecting the food to be so good. Such a memorable dinner. Wish I lived here so I can come back more often.

Hidden entrance in a back alley - look for graffiti and a camera/ buzzer. Reminiscent of a speakeasy/restaurant style - reservation/ no password required !! Enter in through velvet draperies and get ready for an amazing experience. We sat at the bar and absolutely loved watching this efficient crew create culinary masterpieces with precision. Our server was Nicholas - he was intuitive and helpful. Now the food - I recommend the following: Beef Carpaccio / Ceviche / Cavatelli. Enjoy !!! read more

It was our 1st night in QC and the SO found this interesting place from a google search that was only 1 block from our hotel.  According to their website, they were all booked up for the night so we paid them a visit right when they opened at 530pm to see if they could accommodate a brief dinner. We lucked out as the manager was kind enough to accommodate us for a couple hours.  He proceeded to lead us through some curtains and into what felt like a secret club for those who appreciated creative drinks and meals, a kind of speak-easy atmosphere.  The background music was contemporary and hip. We were enjoying some refreshing cocktails as a couple oyster shooters arrived.  These weren't your typical oyster shooters that were dumped in a shotglass of a basic cocktail, but rather the freshest oysters with a small dollop of Caviar Transmontanus!  I had to look it up and found that the "Transmontanus Caviar is produced from the Acipenser Transmontanus sturgeon, or White Sturgeon...its roe displays a beautiful dark grey color and has marine flavors and hints of fresh walnuts".  After savoring the oysters, we chased it with the accompanying Vodka Chopin!  I had to look that up too and found that "Chopin Potato Vodka is naturally gluten-free and the world's most awarded potato vodka...its uniquely creamy and full-bodied flavor profile makes it a great standalone vodka, ideal for sipping neat or in martinis and cocktails".  Needless to say, it went down smoothly! Next up were a dozen raw oysters, half New Brunswick (no, not New Jersey) and half Prince Edward Island...the best we've ever had! The next appetizer was a small tin of the Kristal caviar accompanied by blinis and aigrelette cream...we didn't need it, but it was our vacation and we were making up for 2 years of cooking and eating delivery at home.  This was a very nice treat! Our 1st main course was the scallops, which were perfectly seared and accompanied by zucchini and fried kombu atop a tasty pool of buttermilk sauce.  One of the best scallop dishes we've ever had! The 2nd main course was a perfectly fried, whole sea bass with cucumber and green mango salad atop chili oil...the fish was delicious and flaky.  Just amazing! We ended the dinner with their cannele, flavored with rum and vanilla accompanied by a sweet wine sorbet.  A very nice touch! Here's the "Inclusion" element of the mission statement from their website translated by google, "The jjacques is a place that wants to be welcoming to everyone, regardless of their religion, color, country of origin, sex and gender identity or sexual orientation."  Jjacques is a classy, hip and socially aware establishment.  Just a great restaurant! Overall, the service and food were exceptional.  They went the extra mile in making and presenting each dish.  Michelin judges, take notice! read more

My favorite place in Quebec City!! Amazing ambience and love the speakeasy feel. Super cool concept of entering from the alley. No signage and you have to ring a doorbell. Food and drinks were amazing! Star was superb. Couldn't ask for a better experience! Will definitely be back and recommend this place to any friends! read more

What a great experience! Liked the hidden front door in the alley. A modern day speakeasy feel with the interiors, drink menu offerings, and dim lighting. Raw oysters with the sauces were great. Seafood platters you cannot go wrong. Beef carpaccio and swordfish were awesome! Service was impeccable. Very friendly staff. read more

I loved everything about this place. From the moment we stepped through the doors, we were treated like VIP. Our server explained in detail our dishes, and his recommendations were spot on. Every dish was perfect. I swear we would've licked our plates if we weren't in public. I was a little skeptical that all their reviews (as of this writing) was a 5 star...believe the hype, folks. It's that good. read more

Service 5 Very attentive but not overly intrusive during our 2.5 hour meal. Food 5 Yes to the mushrooms 5 ways Yes to whatever tataki available (ours was swordfish). Although, the slices were sometimes a little tougher the flavor was amazing! Fresh with just the right amount of spice level. The celery salad accompaniment added a nice texture and flavor. Maybe to the oyster shooter. Not bad but not as memorable as the rest of the meal. Double yes to the fried whole fish! Fried with rice flour - gluten friendly without sacrificing texture or taste. Perfectly salted, a little ginger and with a tangy green mango salad. The gnudi was loved by our table. Like gnocchi but more delicate. Nice lemon flavor. The pickled onion "caviar" was a fun touch. Ambiance 4.5 We unfortunately were seated in the booth/table with a speaker, so it was a little difficult to converse at a normal volume. read more

Such an amazing, little speakeasy accessible through an alleyway. It's about a 5min walk to my hotel- Hotel Pur. This is definitely a cute, modern, cozy, swank spot with great drinks and service! I didn't order any food. Glad to visit again when next in Quebec. read more

11/10 super good vibes and food . Highly recommended! The door is hidden in an alley way.

This restaurant was a bit difficult to find its location. But once we were in, we noted the service and food were outstanding. We had oysters, focaccia with smoked mozzarella pistachio pesto sauce, fried striped bass, seared scallops and puffed pastry cake with rum, maple syrup and blue berries. They were SO good. read more

My wife and I had a marvelous dinner at jjacques tonight. We discovered the place this afternoon on Yelp and managed to snag a reservation for a high top. As the other Yelpers say, it is hidden down a back alley, though there was someone waiting outside when we walked up. The cocktail menu is extensive, and we spent almost as much time picking our drinks as we did our dinner. For dinner, my wife got the shrimp cocktail and the halibut. Both were delicious. The halibut was slow cooked, served with a dashi sauce with sour cream, shiitake, and daikon. I got the gravlax blini, endive salad with artichokes and anchovies, and scallops with whipped cauliflower. All were very good. read more

The best hidden speakeasy in quebec city ! It might be hard to find, you have to go to the back alley. The interior is really chic! They have the classic cocktails, but alot of their own creation. My favourite is the old fashion infused with peach !!!! It hits you in the face like an old fashion but has an after taste like a peach cobbler pie. They also have other cool cocktails, infused with foie gras flavour , be prepared to get your taste bud blown. read more

Amazing service, amazing food and phenomenal drinks. The food was delicious, the potatoes hit the spot after the 4 cocktails my girlfriend and I had. Now the cocktails are everything! They are tasty, interesting and wonderfully made. The bartenders were very helpful in explaining the cocktail menu. Hands down one of the best places for cocktails in Quebec city. If you are visiting I would recommend giving this place a try. It's worth getting out of the historic district for this place. The ambiance was overall gorgeous, the restaurant reminded me of a train cart. Very cute place for photos of food. read more

Friendly and attentive service with a nice coat check option after a day of exploring Quebec in the rain. Did take a moment to find but it was fun finding the right door to 'knock on' in the alley. Cocktails were unique flavor profiles, tasty and strong. There is bar seating, high top table as well as regular dining booths. Atmosphere is intimate, modern and super chill. We made last minute reservations on a Thursday night and glad we did so that we could have this unexpectedly awesome drinks and dining experience. Food options were delicious, light and diverse and this visit we chose a seafood theme. Would definitely recommend and visit again read more

I agree with all the other reviewers, it's an excellent meal at a reasonable price in a funky atmosphere (known for its cocktails but we don't drink). Entry is through an alleyway, through a nondescript door covered with graffiti (definitely a speakeasy vibe). We shared the rack of lamb with the halibut appetizer and the oysters BLT. Everything was excellent, cooked to perfection, and very tasty. The older I get, the more critical I find myself but this was a nearly faultless meal. I would absolutely return and highly recommend it. read more

My first time in Quebec city. I had the privilege to find JJacques by looking on line the best restaurant in the area. It was a bit hard to find. I must say that in my whole experience as YELP ELITE, this speak easy bar has the best food I had ever have on a bar. The staff theat you like royalty. Best service ever. I have no words to express how good they made me feel. The music the ambience is just so European so New Cadana Cuisine. Unquestionably the best pork chop I've ever had. And I've had a lot. I also tried a bite of the 32oz tomahawk steak at the behest of some fellow foodie freaks seated nearby. It was perfect. The cocktails are interesting and very fucking strong. The service is refined but utterly lacking any elitist snobbery, a configuration that strikes me as quintessentially Quebecois. Loved it -- I am far from a regular contributor to Yelp but the meager number of reviews for jjacques is a crime that is in no way indicative of the fact that this is -- subjectively for me -- one of the best restaurants on the continent, let alone in this city. Seriously though: close the other tabs, this is the one. read more
