Tuna, Rainbow Runners & Barricuda dominated our day. Everyone needs to see up close the big oil rigs on the Gulf - oil rigs are artificial reefs that are full of baitfish & larger gamefish. There's the main dining area downstairs, but I was taken upstairs where there were two additional, separate dining areas. I was seated at their "best" table. Great view of the first floor, outdoor patio dining area. Wine with dinner? They brought out the wine book. It was nearly as thick as a dictionary. Regardless to say, this restaurant has an extensive wine list. Ordered a bottle of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano 2020 ($135). Very good. Bread was served. Hot, fresh, and absolutely delicious. I chose the gumbo for my soup, and for my entree, I ordered the Squash Gratinee ($47). Nash H was my main server, but there were at least three others. One to refill my water glass. Another to pour my wine. She said I was supposed to relax and not "work." Challenge accepted. Superb service. I ended the evening with a slice of Pecan Pie à la Mode. Delicious, and beautifully presented. The most memorable part was when I was leaving. I walked down the stairs, but took the wrong stairs, down to the kitchen. None of the staff stopped me, although in hindsight, they were looking at me funny. One of the gentleman said I was there to say hello to the chef. The rooms are stylish but leave a lot to be desired. First off the beds and pillows are terrible. Literally made it hard to sleep and painful in the morning. The rooms are very dark and there is poor airflow. They are either very hot, or, if you turn the air conditioning all the way up, very cold. There are no outlets on the free walls and the only one of the nightstand worked making it hard for a family to charge more than one device at a time. Enjoy local cable, because the TV was old and not wifi capable. The worst part, however, was the water maintenance and fire alarm testing that occurred during our stay. We were not informed of either at check-in and made aware once the fire alarm woke everyone up on the second day of our stay. The hotel did put a printed announcement under our door the day of, which was our notification. While we all understand the need for maintenance, management should've been more transparent with these scheduled procedures.

Housekeeping and the nightly turndown service were exceptional. We also spent plenty of time at the pool, where the staff and bartender were fantastic. The drinks were great, the food hit the spot, and the Fourth of July pop-up DJ made for a really fun afternoon. The service was so personal that one of the bartenders recognized us by name when we ran into her on the street a few days later. The only miss during our stay was the famous Carousel Bar. We never managed to get seats at the actual carousel during our four nights--which is understandable given how popular it is and being the 4th of July weekend. We did sit just behind it. Unfortunately, the service there was noticeably unfriendly and felt completely out of step with the incredible hospitality we experienced everywhere else in the hotel. That one experience wasn't enough to overshadow an otherwise outstanding stay. Between the beautiful historic décor, unbeatable French Quarter location, easy access to everything, and a staff that truly cares about its guests, Hotel Monteleone absolutely lived up to the hype. Where was the manager? My husband's CPAP requires electricity. Our phones died. It was a mess. After all New Orleans has been through, you would think they would have better contingency plans.

There was a curated playlist of amazing jazz music playing throughout, which really set the tone delightfully! Upon entering, guests are welcomed into the space and there was a personable and helpful guide who described the space, then led us into the opening rooms. The first one was blue with neon pink, green, and glowing, with letters, symbols, and TV screens, comprising of one big puzzle. The next is a long hallway of hot pink with blue detailing and lights throughout, along with cool protruding, spongy shapes representing organs on the walls. Very psychedelic vibes! This led into a large space with sculptures of a larger than life alligator mouth open wide, creature atop a huge pot with the words "Stir the Pot," crawfish, tall lily pads, insect jazz band, peacock and more. There was also a cool, pretty flower wall, and upon closer inspection, I discovered they were made out of records. From there, I headed upstairs to see the blue, purple, and pink room holding the gorgeous Fountain of Youth glowing bright blue, filled with gold coins in them for wishes. The ceiling was lush and leafy with a lovely hanging light, as well as a pearly oyster shell inspired one. In addition, there was a shotgun style house with a balcony we could go in. Back downstairs, I explored a bar neon colored words related to New Orleans all over the walls, with upside down piano & drinks. Next, I checked out a decorative white a black room, featuring a glowing green stand. With the press of a button, it turned the room disco-y blue with a glow in the dark effect. After that, I went into the beautiful Desire themed room with humongous pearl structures hanging down, where you can write and release your true desires. Such a dreamy, ethereal feel to this one! There was a little sleek and sexy speakeasy space, called Candlelight Lounge. Then was one of my favorite exhibits: Feast Mode, displaying glittery New Orleans culinary delight classics in true indulgent style, as well as super funky, fun paintings and art pieces. Near this room was a window with full of shiny, delicately constructed objects of vibrant colors representing New Orleans. This was a glitzy video opp with props offered, with the phone going in the center, spinning around and capturing us dancing, shimmying, or whatever suits your fancy! The remaining few installations were music themed with drums and large silver circles, which could be played, emitting different sounds to create a symphony of song. At the end, there was a room showcasing larger than life sculptures of heads of musical greats, including Louis Armstrong, Lil Wayne, and Big Freedia. I really enjoyed my time here. Staff were super welcoming, accommodating, and helpful with photos throughout. The artistry, detail, and care was visible throughout each and every art piece and room. JAMNOLA was such a fun experience and I recommend you check it out for yourself!

She was excited the whole time, and honestly so was I. It's one of those places where you can actually enjoy it as an adult and still let your kid have their moment too. It's not a super long experience, but it's worth it. I'd say give yourself about an hour, maybe a little longer if you're taking your time with photos. Only tip is try to go when it's not too crowded, because some people really turn it into a full photoshoot and you'll be waiting a little. The mattress was good but the pillows were very thin with no cushion. The bath towels were not big enough as well. The room did have a microwave and refrigerator which is another perk of this franchise. Overall it did what it was supposed to do but my next visit I hate to say this location is not for me.
