The building is a renovated old mill that's now a nice bed and breakfast. The room were a little small and we didn't have the best view from our room but the staff was very nice, helpful and accommodating. They gave us good recommendations and the younger gentleman scheduled a taxi for us and also let us store our luggage in a locked closest after checkout while we ran to visit one last shop. Man I wish I could remember his name to give his flowers but he was a younger black college kid that went above and beyond to be hospitable to us and he was greatly appreciated. I trust the Lola and if we aren't able to find a place closer to the strip I would definitely rebook.

Mid-City isn't a touristy (or an affluent) neighborhood, and I was a little unsure at first about the the bar's safety----------I wasn't eager to walk into a bucket of blood-type joint just to relieve myself. However, there were several United taxicabs parked out in front. Cab drivers may not be one-hundred per cent mainstream citizens, but as a group they're peaceable enough, so I figured I would be okay. After I came out of the can I slumped down in a chair--------I was frazzled. Even though I'd only been in New Orleans for a couple of hours, things had not been going well. I'd managed to drop a wad of cash, a couple of hundred bucks, straight into a toilet bowl in a men's room at the airport. Then, when I arrived at the lodging place where I'd originally intended to stay, I was unable to locate the manager, to check in. It was dark, I was on foot and the neighborhood wasn't so hot. Oh yeah, and I had to pee real bad. By the time I reached the Home Plate I needed a moment to collect my wits. I can't remember much about the Home Plate's decor. (This happened years ago, long before Katrina flooded the city. The place may not even be in business anymore.) I thought it was just a beer bar until I noticed a menu board on one wall. I was famished, but when I asked the bartender about getting some red beans and rice he told me the kitchen was only open for lunch. He said I could buy a po' boy at the little market on the corner. There was something about the Home Plate, however, that I liked. I think it was the fact that nobody paid any attention to me. The garrulous crowd at the bar, who obviously all knew each other well, had been carrying on a lively conversation when I came in, and it had continued unabated all the while I'd been sitting at the table near the restrooms. When I travel to a strange city I like to eavesdrop on the conversations of the local populace, whenever possible. So, after I bought my sandwich, I returned to the Home Plate. I bought a bottle of Dixie beer to wash down the sandwich. I specifically ordered Dixie because it's brewed right in the city. I wanted my first meal in New Orleans to be as authentic as possible. Unfortunately, the beer was awful--------it tasted like hydrogen peroxide. After a few sips I looked around and noticed that all the locals were drinking pitchers of Bud. So much for local cuisine. (Actually, the po' boy was better than I'd been expecting. The sad little market where I'd bought it had not looked at all promising. But that's New Orleans for you---------even the most unlikely places are apt to serve up a decent meal.) As a travel experience, I thought the Home Plate Inn was pretty interesting. They are wonderful people who have cared for their property for 25 years, which eludes with authenticity, originality, and their passion for what they do. They made every effort to ensure our stay was perfect. With COVID restrictions they were unable to provide a cooked breakfast, but every other BnB's we looked into do not have breakfast at all. Rose Manor provided's breakfast, in abidance to COVID restrictions. Pastries, hard-boiled eggs, cereal, english muffins, jams/butter/honey, muffins, yogurt, fruit, and I couldn't get enough of the french coffee and a bunch of different teas to choose from for those tea-drinkers. You can sit at the dining room table and be lucky enough to have a good laugh with Peter, or sit outside, where you can wind-down at night under the bistro lights. Loved this! The rooms were cozy, clean and SO comfortable. They have a refrigerator and freezer which we loved because of all the local delicious food we couldn't leave behind. The walls are full of interesting art and pieces of history. There's couches to sit in the back room if you want to separate from your room for a bit. It's located in a safe town, Lakeview. It's a low crime area that apparently has their own police officers patrolling the area. We walked to the Marina from here, passing a few delicious looking restaurants we didn't have time to try, and never felt unsafe. It is of course not downtown, but that's what we prefer because parking in NOLA is outrageous, and its a 10-15 minute quick drive to downtown if you want to take your own car, or ~$15 Uber. They are the reason we prefer BnB's rather than wasting our time and money at big hotels. They're happy to give you information you couldn't get from staying elsewhere, like unique ways of getting around the city (at the corner of their block you can get a bus to take you to the end of canal st.), their stories living in NOLA, they are great company, and lovely people who are passionate about what they do. The Inn is curated so perfectly, from the collection of old pianos in almost every room, to the comfy overstuffed grandma couches, the inviting common dining area just outside the working gourmet kitchen (yes you can use it all!), to the assortment of old NOLA albums that you can play on the record player. The archival photos hang like family photos on the walls and dozens of books about all aspects of NOLA are for perusing like a home library. The Inn is tucked in a super cute residential neighborhood, too, which totally adds to the charm. (Oh yeah: street parking is very easy.) Each room is decorated with antique mahogany and/or oak period furniture that bring the Inn's original era to life. Juxtaposed with the white bed duvets (orange linens!!), thick white terry towels and EO bath products, it definitely has a modern vibe altogether. The rooms use their original skeleton key, and have the names painted on the inset glass like original signage on the doors. The whole place just has the best karma. No feeling of hauntings here: all positive vibes. And that's probably due in large part to Todd, who owns the place. You've met a Todd before: a positive, successful, 100% likable guy who treats the whole world like a friend. His positive vibe exudes throughout every aspect of the Inn, and makes it feel more like you're staying with family -- family who wants you there. If you're lucky, you'll meet Chloe. The Park View is true New Orleans...grand, a little quirky and creaky, with a good relaxing vibe...accommodating staff, and definitely worth considering if you are visiting the University/Carrollton/Uptown area. It is a safe & walkable area with the streetcar and Audubon Park right outside of the front door. The Gilded Perch Bar is a really nice asset & draws a nice local neighborhood crowd in addition to hotel guests. We will stay again, & look forward to seeing Cliff's smile!!

It is a very interesting hotel in New Orleans. The hotel is Will decorated. It is a timeshare…read morelocated in downtown New Orleans that offer convenient walking distance to many places. We choose this place for the following reasons. This hotel is close to parade route of Mardi Gras, bus transfer station, and street car station. The hotel is several stories high. Our room is one bedroom apartment. Our apartment is decorated musical instruments. You don't need car at all in this location due to street car station nearby. It also has local bus stations connected directly to airport and cost $3 round trips. Each night I walk to the restaurant that we want or Bourbon Street. We also visit the parade till late at night. The hotel has secure entrance for the safety of the residents.

In short, the room was damp, dirty, had multiple broken fixtures, and is far below the quality that…read morewe were expecting at that price (or any price ). We stayed in Room B which is on the left on the ground floor immediately after you enter the gate. It has NO WINDOWS. As soon as we entered the room were were hit with an overpowering smell of plug in air fresheners only slightly hiding the smell of mold and mildew. There were 4 air fresheners plugged in in just a single small room. The hvac in the room is locked between 70 and 80 degrees and this does not allow the system to reduce the humidity enough. This means that the room is DAMP. The air is heavy with moisture and even if you sweat a little in your clothes, they will be wet the next day. When we arrived back home, all of our belongings and even clean clothes stunk of the mold and damp and needed to be washed. This environment cannot be healthy to breathe in for any length of time. There were many other issues with the room. Despite a $95 cleaning fee added to every booking, the room was not clean. There was dirt and dust on the floor and carpet, some white powder under the bed, the shower was full of paint flakes and the inside of the only closet door was covered in black dust that we actually cleaned with a damp cloth for fear that it would get on the clothes we hung there. Broken fixtures: see the photos of the toilet paper dispenser falling out of the wall and the light above the sink dangling out of the ceiling blocking your ability to open the cabinets. The bathroom sink drain was broken and blocked with hair and other things even washing hands or brushing teeth caused the sink to fill up with water. The room was pretty loud--especially on Friday and Saturday night. As mentioned in other reviews, there are a bunch of people sitting outside the gate playing music and collecting money. You will also hear loud car stereos. Finally, the listing says that bag storage is available with advance notice. We requested this at the same time as we made our booking only to learn once we arrived that the owner was not aware of the request (it was visible in the booking.com chat) and that they could not provide it because they have no staff. This is an important thing to know about this location. No one works there. There's no office, no one to ask for help with anything. For example, our room had only 1 coffee mug. We looked for someone to ask and found no one. Similarly, the room only came with a single key, but we needed to 2. No one actually works there. They just contract cleaners to come at the end of people's stays (and even before as they were already knocking on our door 90 minutes before the listed checkout time). I would not recommend that anyone stay here.
