The restaurant is beautiful and the servers are all polite and patient. If you ask them for anything, they'll take care of it. However, with a team of servers, you'd expect empty drink glasses to be cleared and water glasses to be filled without asking. The mocktail menu was quite surprising, so make sure you give it a gander. Plan for 2-2.5 hours for dinner at least. They are in no rush and want you to enjoy your dinner. Everything was very tasty and well seasoned. They were out of the fish for the lemongrass lacquered fish, so they substituted scallops. They were good but there were only four medium sized scallops. I was expecting more of a portion size. Dessert was decadent. The Sparkle Plenty was too tart for our table, but the table prepared Bananas Foster was a hit. We celebrated an anniversary and they made it feel very special. Dress code is dressier than most New Orleans restaurants so keep that in mind. Valet parking is free. Don't forget to take advantage of their open kitchen so you can tour it on your way out.

    Jazz brunch

When we decided on New Orleans for vacation this year (beginning of May) we knew we were coming here. We made a reservation for the jazz brunch after learning about it! It's a three course meal for brunch. We came on a Saturday, late morning. From the minute you walk through the doors you are treated so well! Everyone greets you, says hello and welcome. It took my breath away. We were seated and our waiter came over right away and introduced himself to us. Ryan took great care of us with regard to all of our food. There was another server who handled all of our drinks. She was great too. We enjoyed some drinks. I had the gumbo, beef entree and strawberry shortcake. My fiancé had the fish entree and the pecan pie. Be ready with a song to request when the trio comes to your table! We didn't come prepared! We were so happy to have come here for brunch! It is a special place that's for sure!

We went to Commander's Palace for the 25 cent martini lunch on a Friday. When I say this is one of the best experiences I've ever had in New Orleans, I mean it with all of my heart. One of us had a chicken dish and myself and another friend had the beef dish. Everything was beyond exceptional food wise. We also ordered dessert (the special ice cream and the bread pudding soufflé) and they brought us a crème brûlée on the house. The service is, in my opinion, some of if not THE best you will find in New Orleans. This restaurant is truly an experience.

    The 16-hour barbecued pork shoulder

As a 33-year-old pastry chef, I've had the opportunity to experience a lot of great restaurants, and Commander's Palace absolutely lived up to the reputation. We went for the jazz brunch and had an amazing time from start to finish. The atmosphere was lively, elegant, and full of classic New Orleans energy. One of the coolest moments was getting to hear "Pennies from Heaven" played right at our table, which made the experience feel even more memorable and personal. The service was on point the entire time and honestly went beyond my expectations. The staff was attentive, knowledgeable, and made the whole experience feel welcoming and special without ever feeling overdone. The food was outstanding. The black skillet roux dish had incredible depth and richness with toasted garlic and local hot sauce. The cold-smoked cauliflower with green tomato chow chow, crispy oyster mushrooms, and Louisiana field pea hummus was creative and perfectly balanced. The 16-hour barbecued pork shoulder over warm buttermilk biscuits with mushrooms, caramelized onions, poached eggs, and tasso hollandaise was comforting while still refined and elevated. As a pastry chef, dessert really stood out to me. The bread pudding soufflé finished tableside with warm whiskey cream was exceptional--light, airy, rich, and technically flawless. Amazing food, hospitality, music, and atmosphere. We had an absolute blast and would highly recommend the jazz brunch experience.

I try to visit Commander Palace each time I attend Jazz fest. This year was my 20th Jazz fest and while I have not been able to dine at this fantastic restaurant on each occasion, when I have it's always been a totally rewarding experience. I went with a friend when we were Sat in the main dining room downstairs. We started with cocktails that we each enjoyed: FRENCH 75 brandy or gin | lemon | sparkling wine CRESCENT CITY COOLER cane run rum | guava | lime | ginger ale Everything looked so good on the menu that we splurged with the following appetizers after the excellent server went over the menu with me since I am gluten intolerant. Shrimp & Tasso Henican Wild Louisiana white shrimp stuffed with housemade tasso ham. pickled okra, sweet red onions, five pepper jelly and Crystal hot sauce beurre blanc Pomegranate Molasses Glazed Colorado Lamb Tender morsels of harissa spiced 16-hour braised lamb shank over crispy garlic-herb confit eggplant with black sesame & foie gras tahini Butternut squash soup The Shrimp & Tasso Henican was delicious only overshadowed by the Lamb. The butternut squash soup was also excellent. For our main course I ordered the Tasso Brined Double Cut Duroc Pork Chop over chermoula spiced wild rice w/toasted pistachios, compressed pineapple compote & smoked pepita-chèvre pistou. So good but so large I took half with me for later. My friend she ordered the Pecan Crusted Gulf Fish- Prosecco poached Louisiana jumbo lump crab over spiced New Roads pecan crusted fish with roasted corn, asparagus, grilled kale, melted leeks and whiskey spiked crushed corn cream We were brought for our "anniversary" of our meeting the year before a delicious dessert of ice cream and caramel that topped off another fabulous meal with excellent service.

Great food but our server was pretty bad during the jazz brunch. Our entire meal for 2 ppl ended up being 2 hours long! First we waited a long time for the menu, then a while between courses, and then a long time for the bill. You could tell he really didn't want to be there. The bussers and other help were top notch though. The parade was also so awkward as was the jazz band. Would've been so much better if they just played jazz in the corner like literally every other restaurant. Ratings: 5/5: The turtle soup was delicious and so was the shrimp and Tasso henican appetizer. The ham is crazyyy good. 4/5: pecan crusted fish, eggs Benedict, and bread pudding. Yummy but the fish was too salty. I come from Hawaii so I am very spoiled with great fish options. The eggs Benedict I would actually give a 4.5/5. Nothing wrong with it but it wasn't super wow. I was expecting a lot more from the bread pudding. I thought the bread pudding was going to be a bready top but it was a huge layer of whipped egg whites. What I love about bread pudding is a really good crust but there was no crust lol. Everything was soft. It was delicious especially the sauce but I didn't care for the texture. 2/5 service. Server was terrible but the rest of the staff were great. Just expected a lot more for one of the top restaurants in New Orleans.

There is nothing to say that's not been said. Excellent. Food quality is tops, and the service is world-class. Came in with a smaller group of four. Was blown away. From the kitchen tour to the food and the drinks, thank you! Service, I will say, is more casual, or they feel you out, if that tracks? For such a high-end place, they are more happy to have you than "you should be grateful to be there." Which I love! Jokes, fun and good times is the atmosphere here, but always with respect and an incredible wine and food knowledge. The tuna was a big Star and the bread pudding soufflé, come on now?!! A must get. Not sure what's up with the pepper jelly on that shrimp with ham, but sell me a bucket. This is a can't miss stop! As far as the dress code, just read it and look nice, you look great. Feels good to have standards like this and it adds to the fun. You have pants and a coat, I know you do :) cheers! We are traveling, so our clothes were limited, and maybe a little wrinkle here and there--nobody is getting turned away. They are happy to see you!

Easter brunch menu, music and pastel vibes

Fun and festive Easter weekend brunch here. Nice to have live music, good service and pastels everywhere to celebrate the season. Best dish by far was the bread pudding souffle - taste and texture were fantastic! Also appreciated that we were able to share the three course brunch menu instead of ordering our own. The rest of the food was good, not particularly memorable, but no misses either. Recommend the crescent city cocktail as a delightfully refreshing compliment to the meal.

    Lunch pork tostadas
    Cathy O.

Biggest tip is book as far in advance as you can! It's a New Orleans institution, and their infamous 25 cent lunch martinis Wednesday thru Friday ensure they stay booked up. So I had the Cochin de lait tostada, which is pork shoulder on a tortilla goodied up with cheese and red bean purée and a pickled relish. As my choice of soup I chose the demitasse tasting of all 3 soups: the turtle, creole gumbo and the soup of the day, which was a corn and crab bisque. All great-I'd have hated to miss tasting any one of them! As usual, we were all too full for dessert. I guess the martinis were our dessert... Another tip...be sure to walk thru their kitchen! It's worth a trip.

Commander's Palace is the gold standard for what every restaurant should aspire to be. Their service is truly impeccable -- every plate arrives at the table with flawless precision and perfect timing. The food is outstanding as well, from start to finish. If you go for Sunday brunch, the live jazz band takes the entire experience to another level, making it feel truly magical. Whenever you're in New Orleans, Commander's Palace is an absolute must. You won't regret it!

    Commanders Palace signature shrimp dinner

Perfect night at Commanders Palace. I have to share that the food was fabulous, but what made our evening so special was the team that served us. Emma's team made us feel like family. Her team was constantly checking in with us making sure everything from the water glass to our anniversary cocktail was perfect. When we arrived, no less than 20 people greeted us as we walked to the table, Seated in a corner with glass everywhere overlooking the neighborhood met us feel relaxed at home. Emma started our experience, with champagne and garlic toast , we followed with a cocktail as we peruse the menu, and decided on our courses. I chose the 1-1-1 soup sampler, turtle soup with Sherri. Black Eyed Peas and cabbage soap, and the third was their famous gumbo. The trio allowed me to taste their soups, and I was not disappointed. I think my favorite was the turtle soup over the gumbo and that surprise me. My wife had the black eye Pea and shredded pork soup. For dinner Kathy had the Garlic seared Louisiana Gulf shrimp over sweet corn creamed polenta, and I had the Prosecco poached jumbo lump crab over spiced New Roads pecan crusted fish with roasted corn, asparagus, grilled kale, melted leeks, and whiskey spiked crushed corn cream. The corn cream complimented the fish perfectly. We paired it with a recommended, red wine. For dessert we both had Commanders Palace signature Creole Bread Pudding Soufflé with a whiskey sauce. The soufflé topping was so light and airy and as we spooned past the baked topping we experienced the caramelized, cinnamon bread pudding beneath ... and of course the sweet whiskey sauce... I have a new favorite dessert.. This a desert you do not want to miss. As we enjoying the dessert, Emma brought us each a Milk-Punch Brandy....(brandy, half-and-half, a sweetener, topped with nutmeg) a unique treat to close the dinner. This was a dinner to remember... make sure you plan an hour and a half to two hours to enjoy Commanders Palace.

ONE OF THE TOP 5 MEALS OF OUR LIVES!!! We went for a delayed anniversary lunch (because we have toddlers at home) and it was such a great experience! We had the turtle soup and gumbo and my husband and I both (he being from Washington and me a NOLA gal) agreed that it was the best gumbo we'd ever had! The turtle soup is also a must. We had the beef tournedos for entree and the bread pudding soufflé and both were melt in your mouth amazing!! Oh and the 25 cent martinis were also a hit hehe! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

During a recent visit to New Orleans my husband and I were referred to trying this restaurant. It wasn't close to where we were staying but worth the cab ride. We booked reservations months in advance and it didn't disappoint. Every dish was delicious. The bread pudding was our absolute favorite. .25 lunch martinis couldn't be beat either. Definitely a restaurant to try while visiting NOLA.

How accessible is it? I will be staying in a nearby hotel and using a mobility scooter? Can I take the scooter to the table? Or park it nearby?

Yes.. just let them know a head of time... customer service is incredible

Can we store 2 carryons somewhere while we eat? We're catching a plane right after our lunch.

Yes they can, they check bags and coats

Unable to get a reservation for the Sunday brunch date I want. Any chance at all on a walk in, if I arrive on opening? Is there a line already?

You definitely need reservations. Brunch gets packed. You can try but keep your expectations low.

It's too late for me to make a reservation on the Sunday I want. Anyone ever do a walk in on a Sunday and get in? Even arriving on opening?

    Are babies in strollers welcome?

At night didn't see any. It's an upscaled restaurant. Maybe before prime time

Do they have Jazz Brunch every Saturday?

    Yes!

What are the names of the different Dining Rooms?

    Sorry, I have no idea

    Is this place kid friendly?

Yes it is. I was there with my 3 teenagers and there were much younger kids dinning around us. They also have kids menu.

Are dogs allowed in the outdoor seating area?

I never saw the outdoor patio the evening we dined at Commanders. I would think "no", but I would call them to confirm.

Is there a bar available for dining, solo diner, so don't want to waste a table?

No, there is no free standing bar.

    Do they have valet parking?

Yes for dinner. But parking close to the restaurant is easy.

Do they have daily fish specials?

They do have fish on their menu daily but not as a special. They also said can cook items off of the menu!

Would this be an appropriate place to bring my 1 year old grandson for jazz brunch? He's great in a restaurant and loves music.?

I think that’s up to you…the musicians travel around to the tables. I think mentioned before, if child gets fussy it would be uncomfortable for everyone!

    Do they still offer takeout?

I would be surprised because it's a pretty high end place, but just call them and ask.

Is there a bar one can have drinks and appetizers?

No, no bar to sit at to eat

Are women allowed to wear white sneakers?

    Definitely dress up.

What's the dress code for Lunch? Can you wear shorts and tanks?

No, even lunch is somewhat formal. Shorts and tanks wouldn't be considered acceptable.

Can't get a reservation when we are in town. Do they have a bar we could sit and eat at?

I believe you need a reservation unfortunately, and from my experience they book a few months out!

Do you still have a Sunday brunch?

They do. Check their web site

Will you be open on Christmas Day?

No closed Christmas & Mardi Gras Day!

We were seated in the upstairs area and tried some of their drinks. We got the Brandy Crusta which is their most popular drink and the Pouvez-Vous Poulet which is a seasonal cocktail. The Brandy Crusta has the cup dipped in sugar with a fairly strong cocktail within. Definitely get this when you are here as that is one of the best Brandy Crustas and is historical. The Pouvez-Vous Poulet is a duck fat washed rum cocktail and is also very delicious. You cannot really go wrong with any cocktail, but definitely order the Brandy Crusta for the true experience here. Though, honestly, while the cocktails are good, it was not as memorable as the other Top 50 Best Bars in the World that I have been to, but I won't dock a star off because of this, since the cocktails and overall experience otherwise were fantastic. Service is good but can be a bit slow, but it is an acceptable tradeoff for a more quiet ambience compared to downstairs.

It's a first-come, first-serve situation (at least it was for us at the time). So of course, the carousel bar is the highlight. It's a slow rotating bar rail and it's adorable. Lol. Lastly we tried the BBQ Shrimp which was grilled to perfection with a good snap, excellent flavor and good char along with a tangy, cream sauce on top. Value: It's pricey. Food and drinks were decent, but a SMIDGE overpriced, but... they know you're going to pay because you're on vacation, you're a tourist and you wanna be in this novelty bar. Lol. Regardless, I had a blast and you can say you did too whenever you check this place out! In conclusion, I've now been there, done that. Lol. I don't have to do it again, but if you're in the area, check this place out. It's a good time.
