Top off the salmon sandwich
Brian M.

Great find on Yelp while I was up in the area. The most important thing to mention is the service! Everyone was super friendly and welcoming. This is a nice little place in Chappaqua which is a quiet town. It's a French/American Bistro Cafe that has simple decor. I would say you come here for the staff, the food and the coziness. They've been here for about 20 years and are very well known. We were here just before the dinner menu although I was happy with the selections from the lunch menu. Luis our waiter was very accommodating, I wasn't looking for anything to drink with alcohol so offered to make me a home made lemonade which was not even on the menu. It hit the spot after the 2 hours of exercise I did earlier. They have a straightforward menu and the diner menu items are mainly named in French. Luis was very helpful in making food choices and especially the deserts!! We had the soft shell crab sandwich which is made with one soft shell crab and comes with a small salad and fries which are from fresh potatoes. It was good although the only tip I would give is to order it for dinner so you get 2 soft shell crabs. Yes the price goes from $22 to about $36, although if you are hungry it's definitely worth it. We also had the salmon sandwich which was out of this world. Most restaurants give you a salmon patty, this sandwich had a huge piece of very tasty salmon that was cooked to perfection. It had to be at least 8 ounces. It also came with a salad and home made French fries. For desert we had the blueberry crumb with vanilla ice cream and the warm chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream. The brownie was one of if not the best brownie I've eaten. Warm, sweet, dark chocolate! Sweet but not overpowering, fresh and so moist. It was a large piece as well. I think my next trip will be to come back to relax outside on a nice evening, have the tacos, appetizers, lots of wines and their desert. All the staff were wearing masks although they leave it up to the customers who are hopefully vaccinated to decide if they want to wear one. The restaurant was very clean, they were constantly cleaning and sanitizing. The bathrooms were spotless. I would highly recommend Le Jardin Du Roi and the owner Joe has set the bar high for customer service and for their food. Well done!

I'm not sure what's going on here. I remember loving this restaurant the last time I was here. This time was very different. I had a reservation but was seated in A small room to the left. Ok so I sat and waited for my friend. Nobody bothered with me. Someone came over and asked what kind of water I would like. I never received any. My friend arrived and we sat there for probably 10 minutes talking. Still no water, no waiter. It was getting way too loud. We asked to be moved to the other room. This is where we should've been seated from the beginning with our reservation! There was nobody in this other room, maybe two tables seated. The hostess told us she sat us in the bar room because she thought it would be quieter! hmm that's definitely not possible, because the tables were very close and the room was filled. She should know that people want to sit in the main dining room with reservations, or give them a choice. OK so we're seated and ready to order some wine. Nobody's paying attention to us in this room either. We flagged down somebody and asked them if we could order. I say somebody, because you couldn't tell who was a waiter and who was a bus boy. Nobody took the lead Or introduced themself and said, "hello I will be your waiter". It was a very weird. We decided to order everything because we thought we would never see them again. We were correct. I got the ratatouille and my friend got a club sandwich. We never did see them again, and I had to flag someone down to bring me ice because my iced tea was warm. I never received the ice. I flagged down a second person and asked and finally received it. I still didn't know who my waiter was. My friend had to flag down someone and asked for an another glass of wine. I had ordered from the restaurant week menu and a waiter had come over to ask what I would like for dessert. I opted for the bread pudding. He hurried away. My girlfriend said, "he didn't even ask if I would like dessert or coffee or something else." She was completely invisible and was not offered dessert, or coffee. The food was good, but it's hard to get past how we were ignored. It was not a very welcoming lunch, but it was funny when we went to leave, they acknowledged us and said goodbye. The problem is not the food, it's definitely the workers.

Was traveling north to Mt Kisco to pickup my son and had time to kill. Needed to stop for dinner & Le Jardin was listed as participating in Hudson Valley Restaurant Week (HVRW) decided to stop in. I was greeted and seated immediately. The place has that old world feel with dark wood paneling, dark wood tables, a bar & French posters. OK - this may be good. Was given two menus regular & the three course Prix Fix. Perused both & started to question my decision. Tacos, Shrimp a la Cruz (latin shrimp). Hmmmm I don't know of many French restaurants serving Latin dishes. In any case ordered Wine, Escargot, Shrimp a la Cruz (recommended by server vs Salmon Poke) & Bread Pudding. I was informed by my server that every Wed they have Latin night. Hmmm, French restaurant having latin night??? That does not sound right. Never heard of a French restaurant having a 'Latin' night. The wine arrived very quickly along with two freshly 'baked' dinner rolls. Shortly the escargot arrived. OK The escargot was lukewarm the butter just melted not bubbling, very under seasoned & I'm on a low sodium diet. Next the entree - Shrimp a la Cruz. Let me say this; not only were the shrimp killed but they were also cooked to death or burned at steak in Salem. These are not for the denture crowd. Talk about shoe leather. The risotto was flavorful but dry, you could taste the butter in it but it was DRY. And then there were these two boiled/steamed broccoli flowerets. The bread pudding was OK. The service was good, so no complaints there. Don't bother move on elsewhere.

The atmosphere is very pleasant, warm, and classy. The Labneh is a great starter to get for the table and my favorite entree is the ground beef koobideh with either the basmati rice or fries. In general I typically skip dessert wherever I go but at Shiraz I really enjoy the saffron ice cream. My family and I always have a great time at Shiraz and look forward to coming back again and again.

The stuffed feta dates were the good balance of sweet and savory, and the eggplant dip was incredibly smooth and rich without feeling heavy. A little extra seasoning could go a long way with the dip! For mains, the salmon was beautifully cooked and well-seasoned, and the lamb shank was a standout--tender, deeply flavorful, and comforting in the best way. The falafel had a great crisp on the outside while staying soft inside. You can really tell they put care into each dish. What made the night extra special was the birthday surprise: the sweetest baklava presentation that felt so warm and personal. It was such a thoughtful touch. We also ended the night with cappuccinos, hot chocolate, and an affogato (not pictured), which were the perfect cozy finish. Overall, Shiraz Kitchen strikes a great balance between elevated and welcoming. It's the kind of place that feels just as right for a celebration as it does for a relaxed dinner. Would absolutely come back.

I opted for water as my grandson did and his fiancé order a glass of white wine. It was Sauvignon Blanc, and she found very satisfying. For an appetizer, we shared a truffle pizza. It was a different flavor that I never had before, but very tasty. For entrees they ordered a sliced steak and chicken parm. I went for the seared duck with mushroom gravy. I never had duck served this way. I really really enjoyed it. No one wanted a dessert so my grandson ordered espresso and I ordered a cappuccino. The waitress brought us thin slices of powdered sugar biscotti as a compliment. The ambience is quiet and cozy and dimly lit with an electric light on each table. On the menu it mentions like this restaurant is a sister location of Cafe Alia, also in Scarsdale. This was an excellent choice for Thursday night. You won't be disappointed.Sal E. New Rochelle

The service is always stellar with a good wine menu. The ambiance is peaceful and cozy always with the Garth Road locals who are such wonderful people. But I actually came here twice this week because of their personal pizzas. The manager told me to try it and I fell in love with it, in addition to their mouth watering paella. I even stopped by there yesterday just to have a couple of glasses of wine. Knowing myself, I'll be back there this weekend or next week.

Parking took a little patience, as both the front spots and lot across the street were full, but we secured street parking on a second pass. From the outside it feels intimate, almost modest. Step inside and it opens up into a surprisingly spacious dining room, with a hallway leading to additional seating in the back. Service was attentive and polished throughout. They start you with eggplant caponata, a welcoming touch. We shared the Four Cheese Arancini and a grilled calamari and shrimp special, both well executed. I ordered the Bucatini all'Amatriciana, the daily special and one of my favorites, and it delivered with depth and balance. My wife's Pappardelle del Bosco, finished with truffle oil, was rich and aromatic. Espresso and a house-made amaro to close sealed the experience. A strong first visit. We'll be back, especially for the Chicken Scarpariello I keep hearing about.

Our server didn't greet us and instead immediately asked what we wanted to order...less than five minutes after being seated, before we had even looked at the menus or been asked if we wanted drinks. We told him we'd like to start with drinks, and although he reluctantly took the order, he returned a few minutes later empty-handed and again asked us to place our full order, without even bringing the cocktails to the table first. It felt rushed and disorganized right from the start. Throughout the evening, every interaction felt pressured, despite the restaurant not appearing particularly busy, which made what should have been a relaxed birthday dinner feel uncomfortable. When our first round of drinks was finished, he never once came back to ask if we wanted another round, which was surprising given the setting and price point. The most surprising part was learning that our server was the owner/chef's son. When we casually asked who Padre Pio was, he couldn't answer, which felt like a missed opportunity to share the story behind the restaurant. As for the meal, the total came to about $500 for cocktails, wine, four appetizers (grilled calamari, baked clams, eggplant rollatini, and insalata di campania), and entrées including ravioli, spaghetti Padre Pio, chicken scarpariello, and branzino, with sides of mushrooms and escarole and beans. While some dishes were decent, others fell short--particularly the spaghetti Padre Pio, which was overly soft and lacked texture. The ravioli also tasted very similar to JB & Sons from Yonkers. The clams were mushy and overly saturated in oil. I did enjoy the eggplant rollatini. The complimentary eggplant caponata was oddly sweet. The menu itself was oddly presented. I've never seen chicken scarpariello listed with add-ons and separate pricing depending on whether you want it on or off the bone or with sausage, it felt more like ordering a pizza with toppings than ordering from what's supposed to be an elevated Italian menu. It cheapened the overall experience rather than enhancing it. Service issues continued throughout the meal. When our entrées were brought out, no serving utensils or extra plates were provided. When he later asked if we wanted new plates, he simply dropped a stack on the side of the table rather than setting them properly, which felt inattentive and unprofessional. Additionally, the bus staff were overly aggressive when clearing the table. At one point, a busboy dropped dirty utensils directly onto my friend's lap and into her purse that was next to me. To top it off, instead of offering us a dessert menu, a piece of cheesecake was simply brought out alongside the check. After spending this amount of money, especially for a birthday celebration, this felt dismissive and frankly rude, as it removed the opportunity to choose or enjoy dessert as part of the experience. Moments later, the lights were turned on, making it very clear we were no longer welcome to sit and enjoy the end of the evening. Overall, for the price point and the occasion, we expected a much more welcoming and attentive dining experience. Unfortunately, the service and pacing overshadowed the meal.
