I had a wonderful dining experience here for brunch! The restaurant is beautiful and the service was top tier. I had the signature fried rice and the chicken dumplings. Very tasty! Also, the lemon drop martini I had was fantastic! I am looking forward to my next visit there.

A lovely Vietnamese restaurant in the golf coast, Le Colonial offers a lovely indoor outdoor seating venue, with absolutely stunning decor. I stopped by here for lunch during the weekday and was seated promptly in a very bustling atmosphere. I ordered the crispy shrimp rolls and the chicken salad which were both divine! I was too full for dessert so opted for a Vietnamese, coffee, and boy didn't wake me up! I can imagine this being a really lovely spot when the warmer weather hits, and can't wait to visit again!

This ended up being one of my favorite spots while visiting Chicago. The ambience is honestly stunning. It feels very French, like you're sitting outside on those beautiful Parisian café chairs. The view overlooking the shopping area just adds to it. Every part of the restaurant is so picturesque, you can tell a lot of intention went into the design. I really appreciated the atmosphere they created. I've rarely seen a high-end Vietnamese restaurant executed this well, so I was pleasantly surprised. The service was also lovely and attentive without being overbearing. For food, the shrimp on sugarcane and the monkfish small plates were my absolute favorites, do not skip those. So flavorful and memorable. The beef noodle soup had an amazing broth, super rich and tasty, but nothing wildly unique beyond that. Still solid. The chicken curry was sooo good. I loved the mango and cashews! such a unique combination and really delicious. Overall, I'd absolutely come back. Even just for the ambience alone, it's worth it. Perfect for a special dinner or when you want something that feels a little elevated but still warm and inviting.

It's been awhile since I came here and it did not disappoint. Food was excellent overall. It was a perfect place to celebrate a special day. Service was great too. Enjoyed our seats looking over the street. Valley parking is available but we were able to find a street parking for ourselves.

This place is no joke. I'm OBSESSED already. Service - 10/10. Food - 10/10. Ambiance 10/10. 5 stars all around (or 10). I've heard of Le Colonial so many times but never got to try it until recently. Yes it's pricey and fancy but you get what you pay for. The dishes are on the smaller side, but for a group of 6 we got over 10 plates and were all nicely full. I would come to this place alone for the vibes and decor, I adore how it looks like inside. There's a sun room in the front with lots of natural lighting come in and a bar/dining room more indoor that's dim lit. You got best of both worlds. The food was just spectacular, I don't even know what to say. Just go here!!!

Wonderful atmosphere and service, food was good- Tuna Tartar, Vegetable Spring Rolls, Monkfish appetizers, Curry Shrimp, Half Duck, Sea Bass as mains. All quality dishes, but seemed to be more neutral on flavors, nothing really stood out as a "wow", which we would expect from a restaurant of this price range ($500 for 3 people with drinks and tip)

This place was fantastic!! I ordered the lychee martini and it was perfect! Server was very knowledgeable and attentive. Started out with the crispy pork & shrimp rolls and it was definitely one of my fav bites of the night. The vibe is so cute and romantic! I ordered the sea bass for my entree and it was divine!! It was served with dill, mustard seeds, and a buttery lime aju underneath-- 10/10 no notes. The garlic green beans were another fav bite-- so crunchy and delish! After we finished our meal, we moved to the bar lounge area to enjoy another cocktail. Great experience and will be back!

Blow away by the service , food and ambience. It's been a while since I have been back.... Easy parking and walked in to be courteously escorted to our table. I got lychee Paloma, hubby got a beer and the kid got iced tea . We ordered the shrimp pork roll, chicken ravioli ( amazing flavors) Shrimp green curry, salmon , chicken stir fry and chicken fried rice . The food was tasty but my least favorite was the salmon in a not so great sauce . Dessert was pineapple upside down cake . The hostess bought out a candle to celebrate our anniversary which was very sweet. It's expensive but worth the price. Also, all the leftovers We're packed in eco friendly boxes which is a great touch.

This place is such a modern twist to Vietnamese food but it's really good. The ambiance inside is so nice and cute and absolutely loved our waiter and he was so nice. The food is good and very fresh and it was my first time having a spring roll cut in half but it was really shareable. This is such a great place for a date night or hanging out with friends. It's more of a formal vibe as well.

I came here for an anniversary dinner having heard many good things. Unfortunately very disappointing experience. I'll start with the food: For starters we ordered the monkfish and the chicken dumplings. Dumplings were good but nothing special (6/10) -- tasted like any dumplings you can buy as take out and they cost $15.... The monkfish was greasy and just okay (3/10). For entrees we ordered the shaking beef and green shrimp curry. The shaking beef was delicious and tender (9/10)-- unfortunately the only dish I had multiple bites of the whole night. The green shrimp curry was unfortunately served lukewarm and tasted just like a $10 takeout dish (4/10)-- no depth of flavor and nearly $40 and did not come with rice (purchased separately). As a side we ordered eggplant (3/10). Again, no depth of flavor whatsoever. For dessert we had the chocolate mousse option. It was okay. Overall I was very disappointed with the food. Literally ordering from a takeout restaurant would have been more delicious and 1/10 of the cost. This place was absurdly overpriced and overhyped. As an aside, I was a bit confused by the theme of the restaurant as well. Their fully white staff wearing traditional Vietnamese clothing and the wall decorations (pictured) for a restaurant whose clientele is 99% white was slightly questionable to me. Overall don't recommend the food!

High end Vietnamese with robust flavors, dedicated service, and cozy bistro vibes. Each bite was a roller coaster of flavor and the drinks paired phenomenally. Our server was very knowledgeable of the menu and guided us through all the correct meals. Lots of vegetarian, seafood and meat options.

Great vibe, great food. We came for lunch and were seated in the terrace. It's French-Vietnamese and they nailed it with the atmosphere. We ordered: - Banh Uot (Sesame Beef Rolls) - Pho Bo (Hanoi Beef Noodle Soup) - Bo Luc Lac (Shaking Beef) - Cari Ga (Chicken Curry) - Iced Vietnamese Coffee - Che Chuoi (Organic Tapioca Pudding) It was all great, but the best was the Shaking Beef and definitely recommend the Sesame Beef Rolls. Highly recommend as this is a top 5 place for me.

Le Colonial is a fine dining Vietnamese French restaurant in Chicago's Gold Coast. Note there is a dress code to enter. While all the food is delicious with quality ingredients & service was excellent, not sure it's worth the $$. $100 for a whole red snapper? It was good, but not $100 good... Food highlights for us: Grilled shrimp wrapped around sugar cane Chicken yellow curry Japanese eggplant Save room for dessert, featuring flaming rum chocolate lava cake! Personal opinion, if your company lets your expense, go for it! If it's a special occasion downtown, worth the reservation. If you're just looking for Vietnamese or French food, there are less expensive options.

Is there valet parking? If not, how close is the nearest parking garage?

Yes, there is valet parking. There are also a lot of parking options you can pre book through spot hero.

Is the dress code enforced even during a late lunch/at the bar? I'm traveling very light for a quick trip and likely would be in jeans and I'm trying to determine if I would even be let in...

No, it's not but you may stand out because it is a bit dressy. I went in jeans and a knit sweater last time.

If I am allergic to fish and shellfish, will I have trouble ordering?

No, i have a shellfish allergy, and they have several choices. There is fish sauce on some items. But talk to your wait staff when you come in.

Is this restaurant wheelchair accessible? Upstairs?

Hi! They have an elevator on the first floor to upstairs and the aisles are pretty spacious to get around the tables. Hope this helps!

Do they offer first come first serve seating?

I would recommend making a reservation for the dining rooms as it gets quite busy, especially during the evening rush. However, the bar area does not take reservations, walk-ins welcome, and also serves the full menu.

    Is this location still open?

    Yes it is.

Crispy chicken wings with caramelized fish sauce sounded adventurous but tasted familiar. These were definitely good but they're not mind blowing so I would probably skip them to try other things if you're on the fence. Oysters were so delicious but I hardly ever think they're not. Wagyu with lemongrass and a chili sea salt was simple but tasty. The grilled eggplant was yummy, paired with pickled shallots, fried garlic, and scallions. Definitely a good one for eggplant lovers like me. The veggie curry was good but probably the least favored of everything we had and couldn't finish it. But we made room for a little dessert! We went with the whipped rice pudding but had it without peanuts because I'm allergic. We didn't really enjoy it much. It was kind of bland and I'm guessing it might be because we omitted the nuts. It was sad to finish on a weak note.

Not to mention, this Croatian meets Vietnamese love story was jamming Americana all night long. Soon enough I was white-knuckling the table to keep my cool as the medley proved to be somewhere between erotic and nostalgic. One could rescue a newborn from a burning building and it would pail in comparison to the respect our waitress lavished onto us. Reason being, this lovely lady spent the entire night responding with "yes chef" to any of our interactions. In all fairness, it's understandable to assume our party of mustached men were chefs. Heck, one of us got a diet cola, isn't that a tell too? I say all this to make known the cult status that woman will have in my heart till I breathe my last breath. As for the menu, what a divine collaboration. Sequestered into some back pages lay a section for Balkan fare that served as a platform for the married-in man to showcase his swagger. Truth be told it's this food selection that brought me in and that red pepper spread that makes me stay. This skilled in-law got even more time to shine on the beer list, with my dark Bosnian beer showing every reason why. Tasty lil thing. All things considered, this is still a Vietnamese restaurant. 5 stars based on Bahn mi, cha gio and iced coffee I ordered today…read more I must have been part of an early crowd. When I arrived, there was only one other table dining, which made it GREAT for me. It's a decent size hall with 10+ table arrangements, making it pretty great for a group to enjoy their lunch. It also featured a couple of kiosks for ordering, which I thought was a bit easy to miss, since it was tucked away in the left corner when you walked in. It looked like there was also a cashier available to take orders, if you miss the kiosks. I've seen places where they simply do not have anyone at the register to take orders, but that wasn't the case for Lotus. Before deciding to visit them today, I had an impression that their menu choices were very limited compared to other Vietnamese restaurants I was used to. I'm certainly not complaining, since I'm usually a huge fan of select "specialty" approach in restaurants. That's why I decided to order one of their Bahn mi, where I normally would have chosen pho for my first visit. And it didn't disappoint. First off, the size of the sandwich was good. I've had it where they charged a buck or two less, but they weren't big enough to be a full "lunch" portion. Lotus' size, I thought was decent. I had ordered one of their cha gios just in case the sandwich failed to fill me, but I think I would have been okay without it. Cha gio was super good tho! Oh, and the iced V-coffee was good, too. Typically, they'll bring out the coffee before your meal is ready, probably because they're ready-made in the morning and all you'd need to do is pour them over ice. I of course, have known legitimate mom n' pop places, where they'll actually bring out coffee as it's brewing in Phin (stainless steel coffee filter) and a glass of ice with condensed milk, so you can wait for the coffee to finish brewing and pour yourself one, which is what I *always* prefer. Not here, but no big deal. You can usually tell how good the food is going to be by trying their iced coffee. Even though V-coffee isn't known for using "incredible" beans, the balance of the strength of coffee and condensed milk *does* make a big difference in your experience. I felt this place had it correct! I'll definitely come back myself and even bring coworkers or my family to have their Bahn mi again. What I'm not sure about is whether I want to try their pho or bun. First, they don't offer too many variations, so I'm stuck choosing from just a few. (For example, I usually go for "brisket-only" or a combo of brisket and rare steak, but they didn't seem to have those options. Granted, it's possible they'll make it happen if I asked) Secondly, I think they're a couple bucks more expensive than what I would like to pay for a bowl of pho. We'll see.

The waitstaff is quick... almost to the point of impatient! But never problematic. Be aware that dishes fly out of the kitchen as they are ready. One bowl might come out way before the others. An appetizer might come out last. It just whatever is ready (it appears). Also, their takeout game is strong, judging by the amount of trays ready to go and people coming in to carry-out. It's a little far for me to do takeout, but still nice to see.

As someone who moved to Chicago from the Bay Area CA, this place is by far the BEST I've had in…read moreChicago/Chicagoland yet. We arrived on a Saturday around 7:30 and they started getting packed and had a wait by 8. They are cash only but if you forget they have an atm inside as well! Prices are so shocking! Each bowl was about $14 which is the cheapest I've seen a bowl of pho in a looooong time. Food comes out pretty quickly. We order the appetizer fried shrimp Rangoon, bun Bo hue, pho dac biet, and avocado smoothie w/boba. The base of soup for both dishes was AMAZING! Good depth of flavor and not lacking anything. The bun Bo hue had a ton of meat and they even have the pork blood cubes! Pho dac biet was lacking a quantity of meat but good variety. The only complaint I have is the Avocado smoothie was very bland and didn't have much avocado taste. The boba tasted old because it didn't have its chewy texture anymore. Will DEFINITELY be coming back for the food!!!

I am from California traveling to Chicago…read more I really enjoyed the food at this restaurant. The bun bo hue was flavorful, and the rice with pork chop exceeded my expectations. Best of all, the prices are very affordable compared to other places I've tried. The goi cuon is only $5.50 for two rolls, while other restaurants charge around $7.50. I highly recommend this spot. Just keep in mind that they only accept cash, although there's an ATM inside.
