    Red lake nation wild rice

Came right at open on a Saturday during restaurant week because I wasn't able to snag a reservation. Thankfully they were able to accommodate us. They weren't able to take another walk-in about 30 min later due to reservations. It's a small, cozy restaurant with limited seating. We had the restaurant week menu which included full sizes of their entrees. Both the wild rice and duck leg were amazing. The meat was tender and flavorful. Highly recommend the cheesecake made from goat cheese. You can tell it's goat cheese, but it wasn't overwhelming. It had just a subtle hint. The apple cider crème brûlée was memorable as well. I was impressed with their service staff. Very efficient, quick, and personable. The entire dinner experience was wonderful. I'll definitely be coming back!

Back for the first time since 2021 over the weekend and it was a delight! Dear Margaret continues to be exceptionally homey and cozy. After spending a week in Montreal earlier this winter this experience offered a nostalgic retreat. We went to a play at the nearby Theatre Wit and then enjoyed a perfect dinner. We picked some cheese and charcuterie selections to enjoy, followed by a beautiful wild rice dish that was packed with flavor, pork collar, and a ribeye. It was my boyfriend's birthday dinner so we ended with the most flavorful creme brulee I've ever had! I'm gluten free and this restaurant can accommodate beautifully. The gf crackers they make in house that go with the cheese and charcuterie boards are a great surprise. Our server Terry was lovely as well. Perfect level of attention and checking in, friendly, super informative. I'll continue to return and enjoy the dynamic menu at Dear Margaret!

So so so lovely. The space is warm and comfortable and welcoming as was the staff when we arrived. Volume was perfect for background music and conversation at the table. We had been meaning to try it and Restaurant Week was a good excuse. Across the board, service was flawless. Well paced, attentive, but not intrusive and so friendly. The food is good to great with the baguette (not always available), smelt and cheesecake being our favorites. Wine was very reasonably priced and a very good, but tight list. It's what you when dining out - good food, great service and to leave feeling like it was an evening well spent. We will definitely be back and the easy, plentiful street parking was just a bonus.

Cute little place off Lincoln in Lakeview. We had amazing service with great wine recommendations. The food was all very fresh and came out quickly in different courses.

Super cute spot! Our waitress was incredibly nice and very knowledgeable about the menu items. She answered all of our questions thoroughly. What we ordered: Pommes Dauphine: Honestly the best bite ever. The bar was set high when the first thing we had was this. I was so tempted to order them again. Grilled Scallops: Great and standard. Tomatoes: I'm trying to understand how tomatoes can taste this good. Seriously, one of the better dishes that we ordered! Glazed Blue Ridge Rabbit Quarter: Very tasty. Loved everything that came with this dish. Aged Duck Breast: Yummy and flavorful The kitchen gave us a complimentary dessert for my birthday. This is a very nice little spot; I will be coming back!

A stellar experience from start to finish. The chef Ryan is so talented. Our server Shannon was very attentive and made wonderful suggestions. Some of my favorite items on the menu were: Pommes Dauphine Pommes Frites Vadouvan Sweet Potato Roman Semolina Gnocchi Steak Charcuterie plate DO NOT SKIP OUT ON DESSERT!!! Loved the Parsnip cake & apple cranberry dumpling. I'm a pretty picky eater, I don't gravitate toward French food, but the server and staff did a great job walking me through the menu and helping us pick items that they thought we would like. I cannot wait to go back! Very cozy and warm ambiance but with exquisite food. I cannot wait to go back! They also make their own butter & bread (bread is made daily!)

Absolutely outstanding experience celebrating our anniversary tonight. Such a cute and homey place serving French Canadian cuisine. Wonderful service, amazing food, and just all around a wholesome experience. Make sure to make a reservation in advanced this place packs up fast! We ordered the baguette with Stilton cheese, green beans, fried sweetbreads, pheasant, and panna cotta. Everything blew my mind and was too notch quality. If you've never had fried sweetbreads I highly recommend that you try it here. Great quality food and ingredients all around but be aware that portions are smaller. Would recommend for the restaurant to either increase portion sizes or decrease price point if possible for future. Either way, still a place that all should check out.

Jill was fantastic and the team made us feel at home. Great service and unique dining opportunities await at Dear Margaret. We'll be back. Cheers.

Had an awesome experience when we came here for dinner the other day. We had a reservation on Saturday and it has always been on my list of places to try. It totally did not disappoint. Our server was really friendly and gave us a lot of good suggestions when we were deciding on what to order. To start we had to get the pommes dauphines. It was a great bite and full of flavor. We got the charcuterie with duck liver mousse and brillante by donge cheese and wild rice for appetizers. The wild rice was light with a touch of sourness to it. I thought it was good but nothing too surprising. The mousse and cheese was so rich and so good. The cheese and honey went so well together. We got the dry aged steak and duck leg which both were really good. The sauce on the steak was very creamy and had a strong truffle flavor. The duck was tender and falls off bone. For dessert we got the apple cider creme brûlée, which finished the meal off really well. We enjoyed the whole dinner and would totally come back again.

This is an interesting restaurant because they are doing something a bit different, with a French Canadian twist. It has received many accolades since opening, and while I wouldn't say it is the most memorable restaurant I've visited lately, it is certainly worth trying. We started with a charcuterie plate, and then worked our way to their largest plate, a rib eye steak It was a truly wonderful piece of meat. Perhaps the standout item was the carrot cake, which incorporated the smokey flavor of Lapsang Souchong Tea. Service was impeccable. To me, the wine list was a bit iffy, both by the bottle and the glass, with many non-mainstream selections, but nothing that really grabbed me, so we chose to take a high end Burgundy and pay the $40 corkage. The amaro selection, on the other hand, is superb. There were clearly many regular customer when we visited, and that says a lot.

What an amazing dining experience. We will definitely be back! The rum raisin cake and charcuterie plate were our favorites!

I would say this place is overrated. The service was very good, but the food wasn't great. I thought the flavors were very bland, but maybe I just don't enjoy French/Canadian cuisine. The pricing is a little ridiculous for what you receive. The ambiance was nothing special and they packed in a lot of tables for the size of the establishment.

I had seen it previously advertised on TikTok and decided it looked like a nice, upscale dining experience and the perfect mimosa-filled brunch opportunity. Upon coming in at 11 when the location opened, I was already impressed by the beautiful cafe inspired French interior. The warm lighting and refined Parisian details were so beautiful and elegant, and I especially loved the look of the bar, which is a central statement of this restaurant. I chose the French toast breakfast and my boyfriend got the steak and eggs, and we both had mimosas as well! My French toast was light, fluffy, and delicious, definitely a solid choice. My boyfriend was super impressed by the steak and eggs and said it was the best breakfast he had our entire trip! The food itself was great and I would love to come back and try their dinner menu at some point. The service, however, is what truly stood out to me in our experience. Our servers were very helpful, knowledgeable about the menu, and speedy. We truly felt taken care of. Fernando was the sweetest and most welcoming, and he immediately made my boyfriend and I feel so welcomed and at home in Chicago. We greatly enjoyed our conversation with him and he even gifted me a coffee table book detailing the history and menu of La Grande Boucherie, which was so kind and such an amazing gesture. Fernando set our experience apart from any other dining experience in Chicago and he made this meal one of our favorites!

We ordered the $195.00 seafood tower, only to find that it barely included any seafood, 1/2 of a lobster, 4 shrimp and about a dozen oysters. I understand that Chicago is not a coastal city, but to not even include an entire lobster for a tower that cost $195.00?! Yikes! The drinks are also very expensive, and we found the steaks to be tough and dry. The Niçoise salad was awful, and not at all what we expected. It was drowning in dressing and the combination of anchovies and tuna did not work. It was also quite obvious that the tuna was not seared properly. I did think the roast chicken was good, and the fries were by far the best part of the meal. We went to several fine restaurants over the past few days to celebrate a milestone birthday, and La Grande Boucherie was the absolute worst in terms of value and quality of food. They were also the only establishment that didn't give the celebrant a small desert with a candle to mark the occasion. Just disappointing all around.

I ordered the Escargot and the French Onion Soup. There was also free baguette included at the start of the meal. I loved that the baguette had a substantial crust, for it was an absolute delight to butter it up (though not the best butter in the world), and dip it into the herbaceous escargot butter. However, the inside, despite its temperature, was still gooey/doughy. Too much crust or some other technical issue? I'll let those with baking experience sound off. Whatever the case, the last thing I want to do with fresh baguette is ripping out the innards and rolling it into a ball of silly putty. Now, for the escargot... ah snails, an old favorite, for I don't really love fast food (ha!) These were mostly good, save for two things: First, the texture was still just a little slimy, reminiscent of an oyster. 30 seconds more cook time is all they needed, a minute would be too much! Second, the sauce didn't do them any favors. I've had escargot in a rich, buttery, garlicky, slightly herbed sauce that was beyond divine. This dish went triple-overboard, if not more, on the greens - making it resemble a chimichurri rather than something turning snails into decadence. Now, we arrive at the French Onion Soup. The sheer amount of cheese was so excessive that I recoiled even though I have a line item in my budget for cheese. I fished what remained out, and consumed it only out of spite. Now, while I appreciate the use of crusty bread that didn't turn into soggy croutons, the size of the pieces was too large. I'm one who orders prepared food with the understanding that it is prepared and should require minimal additional work. Steaks that need slicing are exempt, soup is not. Unfortunately, there was one more undoing: while I can understand a less sweet soup may be normal variation in the recipe, one of the spoonfuls had something very sour, as if it was a large wad of sour cream (though none was present). This made were otherwise rich and flavorful broth less than enjoyable. When it comes to the service, this had some good and bad. It was friendly, attentive, and the food came out fast. However, an item of note is that finished plates were not cleared in due course. This applies not only to myself but also the stranger sitting next to me. Final verdict: I wanted to love Le Bouchon, really I did. I was even hoping, at first, to try more of the menu on a return visit. However, the poor execution across the board does not provide the confidence needed for a return visit.

The restaurant itself is small and intimate, which creates a cozy atmosphere but also presents a few challenges. We arrived a little early for our reservation and quickly realized there was really nowhere to wait inside. That wouldn't have been a big deal except our table wasn't ready at our reservation time because the previous diners were lingering. We ended up waiting about 15 minutes outside. I understand that reservation timing is more art than science, but it would have been nice if someone had at least acknowledged the delay or offered some small gesture while we waited. Once seated, service was mostly quite good. Our server's start was a little uneven--he stopped by but didn't initially take our drink order--but after that both he and the rest of the staff were attentive throughout the meal. The space itself is interesting. The open kitchen is enormous relative to the dining room. I found myself wondering whether they could have squeezed in a few more tables, though obviously the food coming out of that kitchen is the reason people are here. And the food was a mix of hits, misses and one absolute knockout. We started with the pâté en croûte, which had a bánh mì-inspired preparation. And just so you don't end up disappointed like Nigel: Don't expect a smooth, spreadable pâté. Instead, you'll got a chunkier, terrine-style version. I thought it was an interesting take. The escargot didn't do much for me. It arrived swimming in herb oil and I found it lacked flavor, though others at the table enjoyed it more than I did. We also tried the corn dog, a very fancy and elevated version of the summer fair staple. It was tasty, but surprisingly small. The standout dish of the night was the 10-day duck breast. Absolutely delicious and easily the best savory item we ordered. The calamari was less successful. There simply wasn't much calamari in the dish, making it difficult to share among the table. It felt like there were nearly as many potatoes as pieces of squid. The halibut, on the other hand, was quite good. The fries were fine--nothing special--but aggressively salty. Then dessert arrived: a raspberry-coated chocolate mousse that was one of the best desserts I've had in a very long time, possibly ever. It was the perfect ending. Pricing was another pleasant surprise. We landed at about $100 per person, which was actually a little less than expected. Overall, Obélix delivered some memorable dishes, especially the duck and that phenomenal dessert, along with a few frustrations around timing and pacing.

The ambiance is classic French bistro meets old money elegance: dim lighting, romantic, and perfect for date night. Food & Drinks: * Sidecar cocktail: Excellent. * French onion soup: The highlight of my meal. Rich, cheesy, perfectly oniony, and honestly one of the best French onion soups I've had. * Steak: My boyfriend enjoyed it, but I found it slightly chewy and under seasoned. The creamy sauce served with it, however, was delicious. * Mussels: Large portion with great garlic butter sauce and bread for dipping. The challenge was that most of the sauce sat at the bottom of the deep pot, making the mussels taste a bit bland at first. Interestingly, the leftovers the next day were amazing once everything had soaked in the sauce...flavorful and delicious. I hadn't been back to check out the other restaurants in this space since Dos closed a few years ago, so I don't have the history on how this space has turned over a bit in the time since. I DO know this much: Bar Parisette is a strange ride. That's because I'm not really sure what it is going for, based on a dinner I had at the space last weekend. Bar Parisette, for a lot of reasons, gave me the sense it was going for French bistropub. The steak frites, the burger, the snacks, the drinks...all of that felt like it was right at home, but none of it was as strong as the food I've had at TDS. I went with the burger specifically because the burger at TDS is so good, but it just...wasn't, here. The meat was a little plain, the fries were fine, the bun was solid; the pieces were there, but as a package, it wasn't humming. The almonds were an interesting choice, but not one I would run out to make again; the trout dip was a winner with a couple of the folks in our party, but I skipped it since trout dip is not really my thing. I think the vibe was more a turnoff than the food and drink, though. Pardon my French, but it just wasn't sexy in here, and even though it was a Saturday night, it wasn't really hopping inside the space. If there was music playing, I didn't hear it or don't remember it, and the layout at Bar Parisette is functional but doesn't allow for the sorts of people-watching I like at other places in Chicago. (This became especially pointed when we left and walked next door to Gretel, which was jam-packed.) Service wasn't pushy, but it was certainly aggressive; our server came over three times in the first 10 minutes to check on our need to order, despite the fact that we were clearly a group that had not caught up in a while and had not spent much time with the menus. (European, this was not, at least in terms of speed.) But then we DID order, and it took 20 minutes to get our drinks and 30 minutes to get appetizers...then another 30 to get dinner. I didn't notice this as much because I had a late lunch, but my wife was showing signs of "hanger" that got more belligerent as the night went along. "Hurry up and wait" was never more apparent than this, and the staff acknowledged that it took too long for our food to come out, especially in a space that was almost completely empty by the time our mains came out. For $300 (this did include an $80 bottle of wine, note), my expectations are a little higher. Dos, this is not, and it's hard to imagine a scenario where I would come back to experience Bar Parisette a second time.

If you're in the area, especially during happy hour (extended to all day on Mondays, closed Tuesdays), stop in. All the areas are lovely and comfortable (bistro, dining room, bar, kitchen counter) and service is friendly and knowledgeable. Absolutely great wine list (and keep an eye out for special event Wine Dinners), including value priced House Wines during HH. Very decent burger and fries, small snacks and full sized plates abound at very good prices. Like its relative restaurant Table, Donkey & Stick, good food, good drinks and good times are sure to be had.

For lunch, I'm not sure there's any better chill spot to grab a bite in the Loop. Low-key,…read moresophisticated, refined. I popped in for a quick solo lunch and indulged in the croque monsieur + fries. The rest of the menu had enticing things but I knew what I wanted and would not be swayed. After a small wait, which I mention only because it really wasn't busy, my food was served. The look matched the flavor: delicious! It's nice that the other French place, offering nearly the exact same offering here in the exact same spot, was replaced with a worthy newcomer. Bandol checks all the boxes you'd want.

Bandol is good for lunch, but the breakfast I had today was terrible. It was ultra-soft, with a minuscule dab of chocolate. The poached eggs were completely flavorless. They might have been old eggs six weeks away from the farm, I don't know, but all I could taste was the chalky whites. And by the way, poached eggs should always be served with a spoon without the customer having to ask. How do you eat poached eggs with a fork? I asked for my English muffin to be "burnt" (crispy.) They were soft and gummy, just like the croissant. And no jam or jelly was offered. The waiter was polite but inattentive. It's annoying to say, specifically, "I'll have two poached eggs with crispy bacon" and then have the waiter come back and say, "do you want sausage or bacon with that?" And like most restaurants these days, they've switched to that thick-cut bacon that can't be cooked crispy. The breakfast came with a very small side of potatoes, which tasted fine. And I had some green tea that was...okay, but not even remotely like the delicious green tea that most Japanese restaurants offer. I asked my waiter to clear away my plate when I was done, but he either didn't hear me or misunderstood, because he left the plate sitting there. Lastly, when people are eating breakfast, especially on a weekday, they usually have some place they need to get to, and don't want to linger. It took too long after I put my card down for the waiter to pick it up. Every one of these things is a minor complaint (except for the tasteless eggs.) But add them all up and it makes me think -- even though I'm in the area frequently -- "I'll never go back here for breakfast." Overall, a disappointing experience.
