This was a very cozy experience that I wouldn't mind revisiting! We went here to celebrate a friend's birthday. It's a small, intimate space with warm lighting, so it's a great place for date night. We only came here for drinks and appetizers. We tried the cheese curds and the artichoke dip, and I must say, the dip....AMAZING! If you don't get anything else here, you gotta try it. The drinks were very good, as well. The servers were really nice and cool. I liked their vibes. And at the end, they brought out my friend a happy birthday card and a jar of honey! We came for Easter brunch. Not our very best Farm Bar experience. People were seated on the patio for Easter brunch, restaurant super busy. Half the time the door was open to the outside, and it was about 40*, so we kept putting coats back on inside, due to the door being left propped open. Food arrived to the table rather cold. Apparently the kitchen got hit with many orders at once & staff had trouble getting food delivered to tables while it was still hot. We'll be back, but it was not the best experience. We had the fish and chips, which came out beautiful and piping hot. But the breading was mushy and gummy and the fish lacked flavor. So I guess I will keep walking when passing the Farm Bar in Lakeview. I hate giving meh reviews but this one was earned. On the plus side the bartender was super nice. I had THE best cheese curds of my life here. No exaggeration. We were already scheming about how to come back the next day just to sit at the bar with cocktails and another round of curds. It didn't happen this trip, but next time Chicago, it's on. Our waitress was fantastic. I wish I could remember her full name, but her nickname was just a letter--Dee maybe? Either way, she was warm, funny, and totally on top of things. I came with my best college buddy and her teenage daughter who live nearby. We had an early reservation because the place fills up fast, and now I see why. We started with the cheese curds and they absolutely stole the show. Crisp outside, melty inside, with some kind of magical seasoning that made them completely addictive. Honestly, I could have just ordered another round for dinner, but I'm not a psychopath (well, not that night, shhh...). We also got a side of mac and cheese for the table...the secret is a little tang of goat cheese. also great! For my main, I got the pork special with cherry sauce and polenta. I am a sucker for any fruit and meat combo, and this one delivered hard. The pork was layered with texture--crispy edges, tender shreds, rich fatty bites, all of it smothered in that sweet, tart cherry sauce that paired perfectly. The polenta was creamy and comforting, a great base to soak it all up. One of the things I love most is that the specials here rotate every few weeks, so there's always something new and creative coming out of the kitchen. Great little place. We met up with family for brunch. Spicy Bloody Mary's were delightful. They came with a simple pickle spear, cheese curd and salami chunk garnish and a sidecar. I like a nice, basic bloody and appreciated the spice and tomato flavor vs. having a huge garnish that distracts. Service at the bar and when seated was very friendly and efficient. Cheese curds had a lovely, light batter and came with a nice spicy mayo. Our table ordered the traditional eggs benedict, the salmon bendict, the pimento sandwich and farmer's breakfast. These all came with potatoes that were crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. Everything was hot, fresh and tasty. The space is bright and not loud. We started off with the wisconsin cheese curds because I saw all the reviews about them. They definitely did not disappoint. My boyfriend said they were the best he's ever had. They truly melted in your mouth. We loved splitting 2 dishes (sweet & savory) and getting to try both. The pimento breakfast sandwich served with potatoes was 7/10. The potatoes were above average, not sure what they do to them but they were 9/10! The pancake fell short of my expectations, it was not fluffy at all and didn't have much flavor. Although it was about 10/15 minutes before we had someone come to our table, the server was nice and helped give some recommendations between desserts later on. I got the classic burger and although they still put goat cheese on it after I asked for none, I still could tell it was a good burger once I was able to scrape it off. The fries are great (assuming you're like me and like double fried fries) but the cheese curds are even better. Not positive if I'd get the burger again but we'd definitely get the cheese curds as an appetizer again! We had the apple pie bars and the cheese cake for dessert- I absolutely loved the apple pie bars but unfortunately they are seasonal so I would get those while you still can! The cheesecake was okay- it's not winning any awards but if you are craving a standard cheesecake then this would be it. We ordered the Wisconsin Cheese Curds, French Fries and Caesar Salad. Everything was tasty and good size portions, but the Cheese Curds deserved special recognition. They featured a tempura batter unlike other curds I've tried. The warm cheese was oozy soft inside. The only reason this review doesn't feature five-stars is the service we experienced. Not sure if it was our server, the kitchen or a combination of both. It shouldn't take 20 minutes to place an order. The food prep seemed drawn out as well. We have lived in the neighborhood for 4 years, and usually order burgers for take out once a month. While we usually love Farm Bar, our past several orders have had some inconsistencies that are hard to look past, while prices have been rising at the same time. Most recently I ordered the classic burger cooked medium well (I am pregnant and cannot eat raw meat), but unfortunately received it medium rare very pink inside. For $23 plus tip, this really isn't acceptable. We had a similar situation several months ago where the burger was so rare, it was inedible and not salvageable to throw on the stove, so we had to go back to the restaurant to ask them to remake it. No refund or discount towards a future order was offered. After today's issue with temperature of the burger (for a second time) and the price hike to $23, it will sadly be hard to return. read more

Miserable. Two issues. The first. It was our first visit to the restaurant, Thursday afternoon temperature outside was in the teens. The restaurant opened at 11, we were dining at noon. The dining room was cold. Most customers were wearing their coats. We asked our server if the heat could be turned up. The server went over to the bartender and asked if he could turn up the heat. The thermostat read 60 degrees. He replied that it was warm enough and declined to raise the temperature. The waitress also commented we have only been open an hour, it should warm up in another hour. I am sure they can afford to heat the restaurant. It never got warmer inside while we dined. (I think the Chicago ordinance requires heating of 68 degrees or a fine of $1,000 a day) We tried to order a bottle of chardonnay, but they did not serve chardonnay. After we ordered we were served two other tables meals by mistake. Where our meals were, we don't know. We ate so fast because of the temperature that we did not enjoy the meal. Asked if I wanted a refill on the soda I had. Responded yes, then was told that they serve soda by the can and I would be billed for a refill. Declined refill. This is not an inexpensive restaurant with most of the lunch items costing $20. That leads to the second issue stated on their menu. "CHICAGO COST OF BUSINESS (COB) FEE As of July 1, 2024, The Chicago City Council mandated a steep increase in hourly wages for foodservice teams. In order to meet this added cost, we've added a voluntary 3% COB fee to our checks. We understand that rising costs affect our guests too, so we will remove this fee upon request." Our overall feedback after going through everything is that you combine that - you will pay 3% more than what the menu states, with additional charges for drink refills, lack of proper heat in the restaurant, etc and I felt as if we were at an establishment owned by scrooge. still "ok"...... this review is for 2 separate visits - one restaurant week dinner and one brunch. resto week - great offerings for the price and i always appreciate when a restaurant offers actual menu items vs "special" for restaurant week. the mushrooms were delicious and flavorful with the right texture and seasoning. i could've done without the potato puree (polenta would've been a dream!). the star of the was the toffee cake. they also do great cocktails! brunch - i have never had shakshuka - unfortunately this was no a good first impression. holy bland...... i'll give brunch one more shot and try the chilaquiles. like many brunch spots, don't plan on doing a big catch-up with friends as they time your stay (90 mins i believe). read more

First off, service was excellent--the staff was super helpful, so kind, really attentive. Great experience. Came here last minute because it was open earlier than most other places in the area. We called and asked about high chairs, and they were so kid-friendly and had us at a table as soon as we walked in. Seriously, would go again just because they're so nice here. Top of the line takeout meals! Michigan burger was delicious as was the fish n chips and a great fried chicken sandwich and fries. We just moved in a couple of doors down and had no forks available to eat. While they do not have plastic ware, they gave us silverware to keep. I'll start with the reason I am giving this place a bad review which is an absolutely ridiculous unrealistic time limit we were given for a reservation expect not told until they kicked us and other guests out. What makes this ironic is we joke about how fast we are at restaurants and how we should slow down. When we made the resy online no such policy was posted, nor is it on the website and no one said anything when we arrived. Instead we were told we had 10 minutes to clear out as they put my drink and dessert down. In total that means we were kicked out an hour and 15 minutes after the start and it took 15 minutes just to get the first drink. So we purchased drinks, an app, dinner and dessert and then kicked out while still working on it. It's possible it's not really the policy and the waitress is a liar because I heard her tell other tables they also needed to clear out and some of them arrived before us - she claimed it was because people were waiting for her table. Maybe that would make sense if we were done and done ordering but my parter actually canceled his last drink as a result. I am a slow drinker and I waited for dessert to order and espresso martini which I'd have ordered sooner if I realized I'd be expected to pound it. So if it's your policy maybe post it so people can plan to eat elsewhere or just eat less - if it's not your waitress is forcing table turnover for tips and lying to your customers. Never go here - the food isn't worth the price and they'll hurry you out the door mid meal. Food is amazing with complex flavors. We tried the chicken, salmon, pork ragu, and meatloaf. Salmon was moist and delicately flavored. Ragu was hearty and delicious.The honey-lavender chicken and meatloaf were the stars of the night and we are looking forward to returning to eat these again! Kids Mac and cheese was good but not a huge fan of goat cheese. The cobbler was enough for five of us to share after a big meal. Our server was attentive, with a parade of staff chipping in to make a wonderful night. Specialty cocktails were spot on. We both got the farmers breakfast with the short stack of pancakes to split. Both were very good tasted fresh. I do think they have a limited menu and you're not really able to make any substitutions, but, the food is solid. I think it's just a good neighborhood, place and reliable restaurant for a nice day.
