Great Roscoe Village bar. On a Saturday at about 1pm it was full but not packed, was able to snag a table inside easily. As popular as the Cesar wraps have been in the city, I had to try this one. Experience from start to finish was terrible. For context, this is lunch time on a Monday summer afternoon. We walked in, chose a table, sat there for 10ish minutes before anyone came by. We were told we were going to get water, waited another five. Finally the waitress came over, gave us water, and in a curt voice asked, "do you want anything to drink?" We began to give our non alcoholic drink order along with food and were rudely stopped and asked "are you over 21?" We're in our early 20s / late teens, with an over 21 year old with ID, from the neighborhood where we grew up having little league dinners here as children, see there are reviews saying "kid friendly," and see no signage saying "21+ only." We therefore didn't think there would be any issue getting lunch here (when we have before). When we said no, the waitress was unbelievably rude. She scolded us and spat "you can't eat here, inside or outside the venue." As said above, we have eaten here before and various reviews on here praise it for being kid friendly. A pub with good city vibe in heart of Roscoe Village. Like this place, the look and feel and if I lived closer would go in at times for a beer at the bar and catch one of the games. First off, we were underwhelmed by the Chicken Caesar Wrap - there was very little chicken and there was a lot of dressing (causing it to be watery) yet lack of flavor. However, our experience on Sunday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 pm with bartender Meg R. was unacceptable. We were seated at a standard table that typically includes server service, not at the bar, yet were told we needed to get up and place all food and drink orders at the bar ourselves. This was confusing and inconsistent with the usual experience. When we asked a simple clarifying question about how our food would be delivered, the response was dismissive and condescending. After we closed out and left a 15% tip on an $84 bill, which felt appropriate given we were not receiving table service, she approached our table to confront us about the tip. This was highly inappropriate, unprofessional, and made us extremely uncomfortable. We've always enjoyed Village Tap, which is why this experience was especially disappointing. Finding myself in Chicago unexpectedly on NYE (12/31/24), I felt comfortable dining here alone. I went early around 5pm and sat at the bar. The food was great as were the beer selections. I had the full order of short rib nachos with plenty left over for the next day. They were outstanding! I do have to say that upon arrival, the female bartender ignored me for far too long while she was chatting with regulars sitting at the bar a couple of seats over. She was sort of OK otherwise once she acknowledged me ten or fifteen minutes later, but her rudeness was inexcusable. She was also drinking shots while working the bar. Fortunately, a gentleman working the bar was much nicer and made me feel welcome later during my time there. I was not unimpressed but also was not overly impressed, it's a good sandwich. It didn't have croutons, hardly any parm cheese, and the Caesar dressing was sweet. It was romaine lettuce, chicken was good, but the sweetness of the dressing was a turn off. Overall a 6/10 for the CCSW. They also have a set of hot sauces, most of them were empty but the thought was there. Definitely somewhere to try. Awesome neighborhood bar in Roscoe! My wife and daughter wanted to visit a bookstore, so my son and I visited here just two doors down. It was pretty busy for 3 pm, but we got a hi top table and placed our orders right away. We had a couple of Old Styles, and I tried the Krombacher pilsner. It was the beer of the month and very good. My wife and daughter joined us about an hour later and had a couple of drinks. This seemed to be a less expensive bar than most we visited in Chicago. That's always a good thing! Service was outstanding! I can't get over these beautiful Chicago bars. Long and narrow. Awesome architecture. Perfect setup here at Village Tap! They always have a good selection that is rotated regularly. They also have a a large selection of tequilas and mezcals with signature tequila cocktails on their menu. Their food is also solid. The menu isn't huge, but has everything you would expect from a bar menu with a few unique items. I highly recommend the nachos, shrimp tacos, and cajun chicken sandwich. They have a large outdoor patio and have been making upgrades/renovations to it throughout the year. I've gotten to know many of the staff members. All are great.
