However I think the holiday spirit got to him a couple of weeks ago because he took me to Consignment which is one of he and his wife's faves. The name is as it says - the bar doubles as a secondhand store and whatever is on display is for sale. I adored it! The service was awesome - I always love chopping it up with Black bartenders - and the crowd was very very queer. I was legitimately in heaven. So much doesn't feel safe right now - especially with the J6 goon squad running amok in Chicago trafficking people. It was nice to be among my people enjoying great drinks in a buzzy atmosphere. Because we are old, we got there by 730 on a Saturday and surprisingly it was already packed! Patience won the day though and within 45 minutes we snagged some stools against the wall. Yet, the bartenders greet us with such a warm and friendly energy that I know with absolute certainly that I have been a regular at this bar for years. Decades. Centuries. I know within my soul that this was my go-to bar in a past life (and hopefully in the next). Just as welcoming as the awesome people are the $1 PBRs and $3 shots of tequila. And of course they hand out free hot dogs every night at midnight, which in my (intoxicated) mind was cemented as the definitive Chicago dog, even if it comes with no toppings whatsoever. And fittingly complementing the amazing energy of the bar is a 10 hour Youtube video of that memed Ukrainian kid dancing at a club playing endlessly on the TVs. Rocking sunglasses and looking like a stud, absolutely grooving without a single care in the world, and effortlessly matching every single song on the bar's playlist. That kid truly embodies the spirit of this bar. No matter what day it is, what time of day it is, or who visits, the bar's energy always works. Vibing to Black Eyed Peas on a Monday night never felt better. Imma be... back one day, rest assured. I genuinely can't wait for the next time I'm greeted with, "Welcome back."

The first time I went, the menu was a nostalgic 90s-theme, and the second time it was the Solar System. Both were phenomenal. I wish I had unlimited time to be able to try the whole menu, but between myself and the other person with me (and being able to taste each other's drinks), I was able to try 6 things each time. And I'll just say that every single one was unique, perfectly balanced (no rogue flavors), and so much fun. Do yourself a favor, and go try the things these mixology wizards have thrown heart and soul into creating!

I went here a couple years ago for their composition book menu, but had to come back to try their new Ad Astra space themed menu. I absolutely love the concept. All the cocktails are inspired by a planet. We tried the moon, mars, saturn, earth, and pluto. Loved all of them! They were all super inventive. Meadowlark is definitely in my top 5 cocktail bars in Chicago because I love the speakeasy aspect and also how unique their menus always are. Can't wait to see what they do next!

On a Thursday night, there is lots of free street parking. Wasn't crowded so, lots of room to twirl around. Drinks are decently priced. On the wall hangs the co-founders picture. Sadly, like NEO, Dave is a thing of a bye gone era. I love the Saturday new wave event, but recently, I see that there's a dark wave by Philly and the beloved by me, new wave by Jeff alternate Saturdays thing going on. I'd much prefer them combining an hour on and an hour off alternative so, I don't have to think too hard, which Saturday do I want to attend. LATE BAR... just a suggestion.
