This is the perfect dive bar. We showed up around 7 pm on a Saturday night after some drinks nearby, amused by the name more than anything, and met Nancy. All thoughts of this being some seedy 'lounge' went out the door because she was an absolute DOLL. When her shift ended, Ed took over and he was equally as lovely. They have comfy bar stools, tons of liquor varieties and great specials. You can also get food delivered from the Italian place next door just by scanning a QR code on the tables. Patrons are friendly. Interesting Decour, with masks and dripping blood on the mirror. What more do you want? It was a nice chill vibe. They even had a themed cocktails specials ($5) available, which is pretty fun. Friendly atmosphere, cool interior, heavy pours and an awesome owner. While I enjoy hanging where I tend bar, there are times I don't want to drink where I know every person in the room. This is when I sneak off to Lizard's. I almost always find both a seat at the bar and a good conversation. I really do like this place. Lizard's used to be "Lost and Found" which apparently was one of the oldest and most storied lesbian bars in the city. This explains the chilly reception I received when I walked in there 4 or 5 years ago. When Liz bought the place many of the old regulars left. But many others, feeling people of all genders and orientations can enjoy a beverage under the same roof, stayed. The result is an interesting, diverse and eclectic crowd. The owner is a veteran bartender and fantastic behind the rail. She's a real presence... fun, engaging and liberal with the bottle. On Tuesday and Thursday Ruth is calmly happy, smartly funny and filled with positive energy. They have live music frequently and a monthly pub quiz that is both challenging and silly. There are a few nice tv's, a pool table and a shelf full of board games. Good food can even be ordered from Cody's, the burger and hot dog stand next door, and they walk it right over to you. I discovered the Triple L just this past Sunday through a friend. Liz is an absolutely wonderful Irish lady focusing on bringing something new to area and building up the community away from the standard bars of Boystown & Andersonville. Previously she used to bartend at The Edgewater & Katerinas. More importantly, Lizard's Liquid Lounge has the great potential to become a space that is welcoming to not just lesbians, but to the queer and straight communities alike, as well as just being an awesome bar. The physical space has all the sensory experiences of an old time Chicago bar, in addition to the renovations and changes by Liz, modernizing its other amenities. My favorite is the bar itself. It's your old school single piece mirror and cabinet bar that stretches the length of the room. The solid wood and size grounds the space against the amount of room to sit, mingle or dance on the other side. There's a pool table in the back corner, a new jukebox (with a great broad selection of music that will appeal to old and new), great clean bathroom and soon to be repainted finish on the inside. Other changes to this bar are the newly installed tap, full bar for liqueur, mixes and beers (I'm personally excited to find Magner's English Cider available), and a charge machine instead of cash only. While you can't get food there yet, you can order/bring in food from a near by Mexican (awesome guac) or Thai place. Coming this June/July, Liz will have established a delivery service from a local business. Don't think though that Liz is forgetting that Lost N Found has been the oldest lesbian bar in Chicago proper. She will be creating a space on one of the walls dedicated to the history and clips regarding LNF. She also will honor LNF's open tab tokens (small wooden token pieces are redeemable for any $4 dollar equivalent drink). Liz has already established drink specials for every night of the week, and I'll personally be there this Wednesday for $5 Martinis! I definitely recommend checking out this space. The Triple L is HeLLLa good! This dog friendly bar has a free pool table, cool juke, you can bring your own food or order in food, game nights, darts, and dog friendly. My tiny Yorkie George doesn't drink. He's not 21, besides, it'll stunt his growth. But he loves socializing the way a flower craves sunshine. I also like the name, it sounds like place in a David Lynch film. Or the main setting of a nouveau noir flick where you'd meet a character with plenty of secrets and money to burn. Anyways. I don't frequent bars very often, but when I do they usually fall in either the bar with a ridiculously awesome food menu category, or super laid-back bar where you can spend hours just hanging out with friends in your most comfortable clothes category. LLL is the latter. They don't serve food, but make up for it with charm, very affordable beers, and a free pool table. There is fun people watching and fun dog watching too. They had TVs on with some sort of baseball game on that people were really into. Darts that nobody was playing, and most importantly, Gangnam Style on their jukebox. LLL clearly keeps up with the times..unlike some people (insert horses and bayonets joke here). Tip: If you find yourself here, go to the corner by the pool table with the books and find the children's book on Christopher Columbus. You'll find the most hilarious angry writing through half of the book. I'm just sad that the guy didn't keep going throughout all the pages - he stops halfway through. Came here this past Sunday to help Kate B. host their very first impromptu reading event, and I must admit I had a fantastic time! Everyone who was in the bar, was very attentive to the readers and musicians. The special was $4 Bloody Mary's that were fantastically made and came with a beer chaser. Kate B. is a fantastic bar keep and the bar itself is dog friendly, meaning you can bring your dog into the establishment with you to warm up. The atmosphere is relaxing and they have great artwork up on the walls. Their bathrooms are clean and they have tons of hooks to hang your things on, which I think is an excellent idea. The next reading event will be Sunday, May 10th from 5pm to 7:30pm. We know that this is Mother's day, but we're still hoping for a good turn out for both readers and supporters alike. read more

My big 6-0-0 review is dedicated to a friend of sorts... So I'm a little biased, Lizard's is owned by close friend of a friend, so Liz has been an acquaintance for years, even back when she was a bartender over at Edgewater Lounge. Deciding to break out and start off on her own she revamped a bar formerly known as Lost & Found. I don't know what the old place looked like but the new place is a lot like Liz. Liz herself is full of that Irish charm and hospitality. Her awesome personality adds to the overall atmosphere of LLL. It has that laid back, put your feet up kind of place (though I wouldn't put your feet up on the bar, Liz might smack you one good). As for the rest, it's your typical bar stools and a few tables. Though LLL has live music, game nights, reading nights, all kinds of nights, specials on drinks, darts, pool, internet jukebox, and plenty of standing room. Go and see for yourself!! This is supposed to be a dyke bar, but instead I found: -a grand total of 8 people at the peak of a Saturday night huddled in one clique-mass - a library shelf - a jukebox last updated in the year 1991 - BORED games The only gay thing about this place was the bartender's haircut. Hits the spot! Lovely lass Liz (of Edgewater Lounge fame) has struck out on her own and is presently bringing joy, live music and game nights to what was a bit of a dull strip of Irving Park Road. There are excellent specials, an internet juke, a rather stunning traditional wood & glass bar, and electro-darts, in a room that's comfortably lit and uniquely decorated. This is my favorite place in the Irving Park / South Albany Park area, and probably one of my favorite spots in the city. Liz, the staff, and the regulars have become extended family over the last year. The diverse croud is really appealing because unique conversation can be found here. You may find yourself drinking next to an ex-pat Irishman, a former lost and found regular, a condo owning yuppy, a neighborhood hipster kid, bartenders, a long time friend of Liz's, a cop, or any other kinda person. The beauty of this place is that most of my days and nights get spent with a different croud, and coming to Liz's reminds me that there is a life outside of my own little world and that great people come from all backgrounds and walks of life. The fact that I live 2 blocks from here is a major factor in keeping me from moving. read more

Every night there's something different music, crowed, its just a cool place to go. They have a good selection of drinks there's a bit for everyone. It's dog friendly, on occasion you'll have a cute pup come up to you. The people are great there, everyone is nice. They have great art work all over the place, so much fun to check out. Liz is an excellent bartender, she has great jokes and stories for you, strike up a conversation with her, seriously! Super nice. Check out the bands that play there.. almost every other night there is one. A lot of them play for tips so hook em up! On top of that, in case you're hungry, they don't serve food.... buuuuut..... I agree with the 2013 reviews before mine. Informative website. We placed our order at smalls and headed to Liz's place. I guess the owner was the only person working behind the bar last Friday around 6pm. She appeared busy. She was running two wells and the bar stools were near full with customers. So we weren't greeted when we entered the establishment. Everyone was casually dressed. Eclectic interior but cozy. Very clean. Diverse music but option to choose songs on Internet jukebox. Had I known the pool table was free on weekdays from 4pm-7pm, I would have played a game. A dog friendly bar but no canines were present that day. We seated ourselves at the center of it all. Enjoying every view of artwork displayed. Well layout compared to Burt's Pizza. Since there was no waitress when we were there, it was no problem for us to go up to the bar and order our drinks. Saw some customers at the bar requesting smalls menu. So yes, you can order food in the bar and have smalls deliver it to you. We opted to place our order at the shack first then seat ourselves at Liz's. The delivery guy called out the name of ordering person. Best to hold on to your receipt. Honor system. My first draft, Burning River, was not available so I had a Carlsberg. It was a good pour. Clean glass, good lace, good temperature, clean tap, good taste. I wish we ordered fries as an appetizer while waiting for the fried chicken. I needed something to munch with my beer. Since I'm not a beer connoisseur, I rely on beeradvocate.com for suggestions. There is a good variety of bottled imports and crafts to try but did not know their profiles so I chose to look them up myself. I did not know there is free WI fi. Had good cell signal. I tried the Franziskaner Weiss bier next. It came with the original drinking glass. Glass was pristine. There's an art to pouring. I almost forgot to swirl the bottle to get all the tasty sediments into my glass. It had good citrus notes and carbonation for a wheat beer. But it was my choice and knew it would not pair with the food I ordered. I should have stuck with PBR. Old beer glasses and food containers were removed at reasonable times. Not piling up. Recyclable containers strategically placed for empty beer bottles. A flat screen TV above the bar was turned on to baseball. Someone requested to watch a Sox game but there was no sound. Maybe speaker tables for rent in the future, a suggestion. A very comfortable atmosphere. Good beer prices. The next shift bartender thanked us for coming. Well appreciated. Wish Lizard's Liquid Lounge was in my neighborhood. Street parking. Right next to a business space which use to be Jun's Model Barbershop. I've lived around the corner from this place for years, but just went for a friends birthday recently. You couldn't ask for a friendlier neighborhood place to hang out. There's newer flashier bars east on Irving Park, but what they're lacking in personality they make up for in guys who wear their fitted baseball caps backwards. It's a cozy space, with what seem like well curated musical acts and a bunch of friendly regulars. As a neighbor, I walk my dog past here all the time and I can say that either their patrons are nicer people or the management does a good job of encouraging good neighbor policies. No drunken louts, no mobs on the corner standing around - just a few friendly folks smoking. read more

I had the pleasure of a camping/ canoe trip with Liz (owner of Lizard's Liquid Lounge) a couple years back, and we had a blast! Once I heard she opened her own place, I could not wait to check it out! Lizard's Liquid Lounge is really cool! The interior, with it's bold reds and yellows, is very warm and inviting. I especially love the African (at least I think they are African) masks hanging on the wall, and the wooden glass cabinets behind the bar! Walked in to hear some old friends playing great music last night. Instant love. Just when I thought the cozy scene of the fun and funky neighborhood bar was on it's way out, I am pleased to see that Liz carries the torch and in a world of contrived hipster anti-fashion and soulless establishments, Liz gets it. This is a little piece of true Chicago tavern paradise. Old friends, inexpensive booze, great music, warm vibe - a great place to meet with pals and catch up. This place is great. I don't know if it classifies itself as this, but it looks like a Metal music bar on the inside. Red walls lined with artwork. They play a variety of music on the juke box. Bartenders are incredibly nice and the beer is reasonable. Definitely try it, unobtrusive on the outside and a lot of character inside. read more

Other than the strange voodoo and nicki-manaj-nightmare-like decor... This place isn't a bad dive bar. Dive is the key word. I stopped in here after ordering food from Smalls next door and they let you eat at the bar. Pretty nice. The owners of Smalls and Lizard's have a pact to allow people to eat in the bar since there is adequate seating. And who doesn't want a frosty adult beverage to wash it all down? The major loss of star were the surplus of dogs in the place. I don't mind a couple in a place, but they were almost outnumbering the people inside. Not the most appetizing to have strangers' dogs walking around while you eat/drink. But if I lived around the area, I could see myself coming through every now and then. (P.S. Easily my favorite bar within a couple mile radius of my house although to be honest, that's faint praise. But if you want a really laid back bar to throw a few back and hang out with a friend or four, this is a really cool and unpretentious place. Very diverse and friendly clientele. Liz and the folks that occasionally work for her are examples of what makes a great bartender. You are acknowledged as soon as you walk in, your drink orders are timely and accurate and she is perfectly attentive without being intrusive. I don't think I've ever had an empty glass before another drink is sitting in front of me! And if you want someone to chat with, she's friendly and interesting as well. Pool table, dart board, jukebox and a great selection of card and board games if it strikes your fancy. And at the risk of being generous I'm compelled to throw in an extra star because she has Dead Guy Ale on tap. ummm yeah. Not my most favorite place that I've been.... Came here last Monday night for a drink with some dear friends. We were excited about the prospect of live music and cheap beer...and I must, say, I was slightly disappointed. The crowd here seems cliquey, and to be fair, we were clearly outsiders (venturing in from Lincoln Square), but it just felt....awkward. The live music was AWFUL. And yes, we are all singers so maybe we're music snobs, but wow. Not the best band we've ever heard... Props for the board games though...I haven't played connect 4 in ages! I don't think we'll be back...but I can see how it's a neighborhood haunt. read more
