This place, 'Cary's Lounge', is LEGEND. One Thing I love about this place is everyone is welcome, everyone makes at least (1) one new cool friend every visit. They have (5+) five plus perfectly placed TVs for multiple viewing. Friendly Billiards (pool) area. There is plenty street parking available on both sides of the street, however, most vehicular parking stalls get sucked up (occupied) early evening. Awesome bar that gave me a true welcome visiting Chicago for the first time. The atmosphere, KL the bartender, Pete the owner, Mel the cat and all of the locals made it a great experience. Cool dive bar way up on the NW side, Little India. It's no frills but still has several cool aspects like cheap beer, a nice patio with a fire pit out back, a pool table, live music sometimes, and a bar cat. I had never heard of it, living on the south side, but I can see why people like it and if this place was in my neighborhood I'm sure I'd come by often. The people there were friendly, my friends and I ended up striking up conversations with 2 other guys there whom we'd never met. Also has lots of space, both indoor and outdoors, which you don't always get with bars like these. Definitely worth checking out if you like dive bars and don't mind taking trek up here. There's lots of permit restrictions, so you'll likely have to do metered parking on Devon, or right off Devon. read more

We live in Edgewater and love that Cary's is a neighborhood spot. We usually just call it Mel's because the bar cat named Mel is a friendly little guy who is definitely a draw to the bar. Great beer on tap and good drinks. No food but there are many good food places nearby to bring take out in from. read more

Cary's Lounge is what a Chicago bar should be -- old-school friendly without getting too cute, not too big, with a lot going on, which takes real effort by the owner, Pete. When you're organizing trivia contests, booking music for the stage in the window, sponsoring pool table teams, feeding the cat that thinks it's the owner, you can't phone the job in. Very kind and attentive staff, great vibe inside- not too loud but love the low lighting and the string lights they have set up. They also have a little bowl of goldfish out every few seats on the bar which I think is awesome! They are constantly refilling. I personally love having something to snack on when I'm drinking so I loved that extra step of customer service :) Also! We ordered incredible Indian food from zaiqa next store. Truly the best chicken tikka I've ever had, and I'd put that on their page as well but they aren't on Yelp! read more

Came here recently for MALORTOPIA! Had such a great time. The bartender was fantastic and the other patrons were awesome. There was even a cute dog wandering! I would totally be back if ever in the neighborhood, but unfortunately there just for a single event. Parking is easily available but pay to park on the street. There is an outdoor patio out in the back that is awesome. They don't serve food, but there is TONS of food options nearby. read more

Finally stumbled in. Nice place, like the kind of place that can't be replicated nice. Legit and authentic Chicago Bar on perhaps the most ethnic street in Chicago. (I wish Devon had more bars, would really make the area an entertainment district.) The beer selection should please anyone and everyone. went here last night, a friend invited me to come listen to a friends band. First impression: I live about 6 blocks from here and have never heard of it. I'm thinking that place has got be right in the middle of Little India. Well it is! Unbelievable, all these Indian, Pakistani and ethic shops and then what do ya know? A joint with an Old Style on tap, sign. I came in, met up with my friend, looked around and thought...cool. I got almost immediate attention from the bartender, so I ordered for myself and two others. She came back with the drinks and a smile and says, let's see...that will be $10.50. I'm thinkin, no she didn't , $10.50? That's too cheap. At these prices I'll be wasted in about two hours! If you happen to be in Little India for food stop by. There was an awful, country rock band there. They advertise karaoke, don't remember what night, but with cheap drinks like that, I could see getting smashed enough to make an ass of myself in public. There's a nice pool table in back Lot's of wannabe pool hustlers there too. Very diverse crowd. . check it out. I would have given it more stars if not for the shitty country band. At least, I think they play for free. This should be filed under dive bars. Oh yeah, and there's warm water and paper towels in the restrooms. Nice little touch. read more

Thousands of people on Devon for Ramadan, I first thought it was a fire and not a holiday. Unfortunately, for Cary's Muslims don't drink alcohol, at least in public, so I checked out this bar to get a break from the madness on Devon. What a creative and fun bar in the neighborhood. Very welcoming, nice bartender and a great view of Devon. Loved the decor! Authentic and original. Fun place! Check it out! read more

I went here for the first time recently with some friends for a post-happy hour drink on a Friday night. Cary's was practically empty when we arrived and didn't get much more crowded as the evening progressed, which was nice. They do have live music there, but no band was playing that night. The jukebox selection was good and there was plenty of seating. Free pool and darts were also a plus. In addition, this is a dog-friendly bar, which adds to the friendly, neighborhood atmosphere. My one major complaint has to do with the odor emanating from the men's room. It smelled like people had urinated all over the floor in there or something because every time the door opened, the smell was overpowering and wafted across the entire back part of the bar, which is where the tables are. That may have just been a one-time thing, but it didn't exactly make me want to sit in that area again. read more

Alright, this place is a real deal. My friend and I visited this lovely establishment a couple of weeks ago, and expected the worst. To be honest, the surrounding neighborhood is a bit sketchy. Too far east on Devon to be Little India, too far west to be truly frightening. Hopefully you get the picture. She and I were hoping for a comfy little 'dive' bar, and that's totally what we got! They have a great jukebox, good selection of beers, and the barkeeps are very attentive and fun to talk to. Make sure to go on a Saturday night, because that is 'Craoke' night. Went here after dinner on the South-Asian part of Devon. read on yelp it was divey, and it wasn't really what i'd describe as a dive. sure, it wasn't posh by any stretch, but it was well-kept. People were friendly and a bit rambunctious, and the blues band was surprisingly good, especially for no cover. read more

We were playing in a co-ed soccer league around the corner and stopped in after every game this season. Excellent neighborhood bar where the locals and bar staff are welcoming, great special offers and prices on drinks too. This place was a dive 20 years ago and I can only imagine what it is like now. Sure,you can drink cheap here. This place is one of the few in the neighborhood that's still around,so they must be doing something right. Just moved into the neighborhood and my brother-in-law showed us to this little gem. They have a good selection of beer at decent prices. It's not an upscale establishment, but it has its own charm. I frequently judge the quality of a place by its bathrooms, and I was surprised that the little ladies' room was clean and not in the least bit frightening. Cary's is pretty great. The owners and bartenders are awesome. The regulars are even nice. The location adds nicely to the charm. I'm from Rogers Park (made and stayed) and this is my favorite bar in the neighborhood. The night my dog died, Cary's is where I went to nurse my sadness. There happened to be a live blues band playing that night, which was perfect. The bartender was totally sympathetic and sweet. Another night, I was there for a bartender's birthday party. There was a DJ playing the best (awful) 90s dance music, and it was serious fun. Why Cary's *just* misses 5 stars: I've heard rumors about a free Indian buffet but never seen it. The free pool table is almost always occupied by guys who take pool way too seriously. The shape of the bar makes for limited seating. read more

This place is right around the corner from me, and it took me 3 years of living here to make my way over. It's very much a neighborhood bar. They have a really top-notch beer selection, if you like that sort of thing. I'm usually "that asshole" that asks the bartender to make a mojito, and they do a pretty good mojito! I think they grill on Sundays a lot too, so you can grab a burger. My real favorite thing about Cary's? They let me bring my dog in! read more
