I must admit that currently this is my favorite breakfast spot in the city. The pan seared oatmeal may sound like something You don't wanna get but believe me it is worth every bite. This was a slightly rough first impression for me. I'll get the bad out of the way: no biscuits available (they were out at noon Saturday), no orange juice, and bottles of bubbles for mimosas are $65. The gluten free beer (canned) I had was really gross. Yikes! Pros: the breakfast bowl I had was great, service was awesome, and my friend really enjoyed having her birthday here. Our family loves Range in general because they are so family friendly, have an excellent kids menu, and stellar food for adults of course. Most of their menu is seasonal and never disappoints. We love Range especially because it's an excellent spot to host private events and their staff is so responsive and attentive. We threw a brunch about a year ago there and that was fabulous so we chose to throw a 70th birthday party there as well. The private room was set up perfectly for our event with a big long table. We did a family style dinner and it was executed perfectly. The private room has a little bar, a small seating area, and its own bathroom. Cam here for brunch recently and had a really great experience. We had a group of 4 so I called ahead to see if there was a wait which there was not, and when we arrived they had set up the raised table in the window for us which was a really thoughtful touch. Waters were already poured and on the table as well. Our server was very attentive, never had to wait for refills or new drinks. And the food was so good! First trip to Range and it was with a fairly large group of 12 or so friends. Not always a great way to experience a place with such a large crew. The food was pre-ordered and things like that, so I didn't even know some of the things I had. But still, I thought there were plenty of vegetarian options, which is great to see. The appetizers were awesome. I had something like a tostada, which was awesome. There was some kind of sweet potatoes fritter, which was also good. One other thing, which was also good. And all vegetarian stuff. Outstanding. For mains, the veggie burger was pretty good. There was one other squash entree, which was ok. Service seemed good, but it's hard to tell with a large group. But they handled it well. I'll definitely have to go back there for brunch and a more regular sized group. Oh, this was a Friday night and the place was dead. I came here for brunch on the recommendation that their pancakes are very special... and they are! They are two huge thick pancakes that are fluffy yet crispy. It's truly like anything else in the city. The kicker is that it comes with real maple syrup. The chocolate chips were $1 extra and so worth it. Yet another delicious Benedict at Range!! Honestly, I don't even bother looking at the menu anymore bc I know I'm getting their Benedict no matter what. Don't get me wrong, 0% of my brain thinks Paula's Winter Squash Benedict with beet hollandaise is gonna be good (bc beets just taste like crunchy dirt to me), but thankfully my palate is like "STFU and get it". The squash patties were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The thin slice of apple between the patty and egg adds a hint of sweetness to the savory squash patty. And the best part of it all is, of course, is the poached eggs that are perfectly runny, which just coats and binds the individual flavors together so deliciously. We were so excited to try Range after reading good reviews for gluten free options. While our server was lovely and the food was good, we will not be back. We had made a reservation (not walk-ins) and were seated at 11:15. Party of 5 from 4 different households. We ordered apps right away. Got them at 11:30. Ordered the rest of our food which we received at 11:50. Less than 20 minutes later at 12:08, the manager walked up and announced he needed our table and we needed to leave. One of us was literally still eating her breakfast! Food in her mouth as he's telling us times up! There were several open tables in the restaurant that could have easily accommodated other diners. Standard time at a table is 90 minutes - although neither Range's website nor staff ever said there was a time limit on a table, especially less than an hour! Hope the next table was worth it because Range lost 4 households that up until then would have come back. Never again now though! Rude!!! read more

The omelet was not $85.00....the entire bill was $85.00. The food was overpriced for average food and pancakes with 3 chips. Our server did grin and smiled and no help when we politely commended on the messy pancakes. My family over the years owned and operated 3 restaurants. We know the hours and problems that occur in the business. You may say our expectation is maybe a bit high. You would be correct. A 13 year old could make a dish better by staying home and preparing food. Perhaps it was bad day and I did write that "maybe dinner is better" From being in the business....our pledge was the "servers make the meal" with the right attitude even if its a bad hair day. I'd rate this place between a 3 and a 4. The biggest reason I'm giving it a mediocre review is because of the service. We came on a Saturday around 12ish. There were 3 of us. When we walked in, there were a few tables open. The hostess us there were no tables. End of conversation. I asked how long a wait. She said 15 minutes. And then said something about sitting at the bar seats. Yes, of course - why would you not offer that in the first place? We each got a drink. I got a bloody and it wasn't great. It was missing something and came with a lemon instead of olive/pickle. I only get a bloody when I am hungover or after a race so couldn't tell you the ingredient it was missing but it was pretty tasteless and I wouldn't recommend it. It took our food FOREVER to come out. The server eventually came and said there was a large party and sorry for the wait. But come on, it's Saturday brunch. How are you not used to this? We finally got our food. I got a veggie burger - not my usual but sounded good. It was very good. It came with a side salad that had a tasty dressing. My friends liked their food as well. We also got fries. They didn't come out at first so the server said he would check on them. Another girl eventually brought them out, but the server didn't come back for another 15-20 minutes and was like "oh, glad you got your fries." I also asked him for silverware and they never came so I needed to flag down someone else to get silverware, which I feel like is pretty basic for a restaurant. I live close to this place so will likely give it another try because the food was good. I really hope the service is better next time. read more

Great spot in Lincoln Park for brunch! We ate here on a Sunday morning, and were expecting a long wait. However, we called ahead and the hostess was very friendly and allowed us to put our name on the list. We only ended up needing to wait less than 10 minutes once we arrived. The drinks they have for brunch were fantastic. I had a Chai which was delicious. Not a ton of alcohol which I appreciated, as I was really just looking forward to the Chai. I ordered the eggs which came with potatoes and toast. All of which was fantastic. I rarely rave over scrambled eggs but I swear these were some of the best I've ever had. The interior was quite dark -- we teased the hubs because he used his phone flashlight to read the menu, but then folks at another table did the same! Range was amazing on all fronts- they had excellent food, cozy ambiance, and immpecable service. My party of 4 especially loved Gisselle's Bean Tostadas and the Carrot Flatbread as appetizers. For the main course, I can't speak highly enough about Dan's Half Chicken or the Stuffed Honeynut Squash. Even though we were almost full, we knew the desserts would be amazing, and we were right. The flourless chocolate cake was one of the best I've ever had, and the rum cake did not last long on our table. In addition to the esquisite food, our table service was superb. Our server was very knowledgable about the menu and the manager, Joseph, visited our table and checked on us throughout the evening. It has been a long time since I have been as impressed by a dining experience as I was last night. There were great options for the meat eaters and vegatarians, and there were excellent cocktails, wine, and mocktails. Food was pretty good but not phenomenal. They only have off brand spirits, which is fine. Except if you ask for a cocktail before a certain period, then you're limited to their 3 or 4 brunch drink options. I thought that was an interesting decision to make, especially when you have people who want to buy expensive spirits. Other than that, the service was great. It was definitely from this as we ate a pizza with friends later who did not get sick so we were able to deduce where we were poisoned. Finally, after three years, we passed by Range and said, "Y'know what, tonight's the night." Everything they offer is fresh and local - you can't even get avocado because those aren't grown in the area. Other than wine, everything is local, which is always a benefit. You do pay for it, but the quality is certainly worth it. My watermelon salad tasted fresh, the only negative being slightly overcooked chicken. My wife's mushroom and asparagus gratin, while a bit small, was unbelievable, about as food as it gets. We stuck around for some dessert, enjoying their homemade matcha ice cream. While we only had "a nickel's worth," we strongly considered bringing home a pint. The next time I see Range, I won't pass it by. read more

Stopped into range the other night for dinner with friends. The staff was highly attentive and was sure to check on us regularly. The waiter recommended wine pairings for each of us, and boy were they great pairings! The hangar steak was cooked perfectly and very tender. The half chicken was amazing and fell off the bone.
