Ave Tap & Kitchen was a solid experience overall. The service stood out the most -- our servers were very nice, attentive, and made sure we were taken care of throughout the night. The food was good, though the wings were just okay for my taste. Drinks were also decent but nothing too memorable. One area that definitely needs improvement is the bathrooms -- they could be cleaner and better maintained, especially for how good the rest of the place feels. Yes, Avenue Tap & Kitchen is a sports bar...with good food. Located very close to the Paulina Brown Line stop, Avenue Tap was formerly called Waterhouse. The layout is very long, with plenty of sports action shown on the different screens during our mid-Saturday afternoon visit. They are billed as a hangout for Purdue and Auburn supporters, and sure enough they had a giant Auburn logo stationed in front of its entrance. There are different seating options, but my lovely wife and I enjoyed sitting at the bar as its surface featured classic photos of stores that used to be in the neighborhood - very cool if you are a Chicagoan. I ordered the sticky fried ribs, and these spare ribs were delicious atop a bed of crispy seasoned fries. The sauce coating the ribs is very tasty with just a bit of a kick to it. My love said her smashed burger with a side of fries were a tasty combo. We each had leftovers that we enjoyed at home at a later time. We were both amused to see on the menu that the rotating craft beers showed "MP" but the beers we selected did not seem exorbitantly priced. Our servers were very kind and efficient. We opted to eat at the bar, and the design is very neat. The bar is covered in vintage pictures taken in the area. They have a fair amount of beers to choose from. The burger I had was tasty, and the seasoned fries were awesome. I'd come back for the fries alone! They have many TV screens that were playing a wide variety of sports. Avenue is located in the former Waterhouse spot, but it has the same owners and a non-SEO friendly name (another bar called Avenue Tavern recently closed in Chicago). There were a few things we really liked (their nachos) and some stuff we weren't a fan of at Waterhouse (their burgers), but we really decided to put them through their paces last weekend: A 40th birthday party. With a whole lot of toddlers running around. They don't charge a space rental fee which is great, and they have a large area in the back where they have open space, a pool table, and a bunch of tables. I booked my party for a Saturday but from 3pm-6pm so it wasn't too busy back there. Most people were in front watching the Purdue game. My wife ordered nachos and wings for my friends, and spread them around the back area. Eventually the staff smartly covered the pool table and we moved the snacks there. I didn't get to try the burger, but the one my parents ordered looked miles better than the one Waterhouse had. The wings had a pleasantly surprising spicy punch to them, and the nachos were as good as they were before, though I do miss the giant bowl they used to come with. I wouldn't necessarily say everyone should have their party with kids here, but it worked great for us, especially since we were able to walk to Scooters after for frozen custard. So far we are loving the rebrand to Avenue. The interior is nice and bright and the food menu clearly took a step up in quality and options. The staff have been great and each menu item we've tried (french dip, nachos, flatbreads, salads) has been excellent. This will be our new go-to for sports bar style food. Stopped in for a few drinks after dinner and sat at the bar. The atmosphere was very relaxed and everyone was friendly.

Previously the Waterhouse and it got a fresh new revamp. Same layout, but the ambiance is sleek, nicer, and much more light! The finishes are really nice. I have visited the Waterhouse a ton with it being a Purdue bar and always loved the neighborhood vibe. Very fitting for Roscoe Village! I visited on a Saturday for the Purdue game and Auburn was also playing at the same time. I love that they remained a Purdue/Auburn/Commanders bar. Loved how they were able to handle two fan bases at once, which was quite impressive! Service was great! Our server was Kallie and she was great! Very attentive, filled up our water, and checked in a lot, which was great! I ordered the $10 Green Dragon for the Purdue game, the Avenue (Manhattan), and the Smash Burger with Tots. Their menu has definitely been updated, but they kept the Cheese Curds and Popcorn Chicken around, which was very nostalgic! I think they improved the Green Dragon. Definitely a lot smoother than the Waterhouse. Fair warning, it's very sugary and acidic as it's essentially a green Long Island. I look forward to trying the Baltimore Zoo next time! The Avenue was very good too. The rock was a great touch as I didn't expect that since it's really just a neighborhood bar, not known as a cocktail bar. I thought the Avenue was very balance, which makes a Manhattan good. The Smash Burger was sooooo good! Also they brought back the tots, which were so hot and so fresh! Super crispy and their tots have always been great! The Bun was soft and I think they coated it with butter like Culver's. The patty was juicy and had great flavor! No seasoning besides salt and maybe pepper which is exactly how a burger should be made. The toppings were very good too, but could use some improvement. The cheese was great and melted to perfection. The aioli was too watered down for my taste. I liked the pickle and grilled onions. But I like my pickles to be more sour and the onions didn't have much flavor. Overall a very good burger! Bun: 7. Burger: 8. Toppings: 7. Overall: 7.33 I had some of the popcorn chicken too. Great chunks of meat and very crispy. However it was pretty dry. You definitely needed the sauce it. Prices are very good for Chicago! $15 for an entree. $11-$13 for a very good cocktail. The cocktails refresh were very good and I was shockingly surprised as they didn't have that at the Waterhouse. Portions sizes are pretty decent to big too. I put the burger a spot ahead of NADC Burger because that burger is so small and it's $20. Overall, I love the new revamp of the old Waterhouse! It still has its sports bar/neighborhood charm and the renovation is very nice. Same exact bathrooms tho haha. The cocktails and the food was definitely good to very good! It's not going to be the best thing that you ever had and that's is perfectly a ok with me! i miss waterhouse... so bummed - as a vegetarian (leaning into being vegan) this place is impossible for dining - except for the vegan italian beef...which was out the day of my visit. i got the caesar salad instead -- definitely not vegan as it was a huge plate with a BAG OF CROUTONS crushed on top and a hefty serving of parm. i'm pretty sure a burger would be healthier and less calories - plus more filling. very disappointed. we also shared a flatbread which is the completely opposite - it's pizza bread (they realllly love bread here!). my vodka sodas tasted like water. i miss the cauliflower "wings" and the vegan chix bites and substantial salads at waterhouse. once i'm able to try the vegan beef (buona is not accessible to me), i'll check the box and only really return for bevs. they obviously sponsor a ton of rec teams -- at least 4 were there post-game so definitely a great spot to hang out...and maybe grab a bite elsewhere at the neighboring restaurants (i hear the smash burgers are better at BP). read more

The food at this place was just ok. It was bar food so nothing special. Service here was good because they were quick and attentive. It was comfortable here and there were some other families at this place so don't worry about bringing children here. Very fun Purdue bar especially when Purdue is playing is final four! The garlic bread prime dip has the perfect garlic amount and the au jus is tasty. Horrible time with service (inattentive and not properly preparing the order in a timely fashion). The food isn't great either! Their fries are odd and pretty gross!
