Discovered Rocks in Lakeview for the first time this weekend and had a great experience. Disappointed and shocked by the price. I stopped in just wanting a casual drink and a small bite -- ended up paying $71 for two glasses of rosé and nachos that honestly weren't even good. I thought the server was joking when he gave me the total. A glass of wine was $18+, which is more than some bottles. My friend got a Tito's and soda plus fries, and his total was $14. The burger was juicy and full of flavor with that satisfying comfort food quality that feels both elevated and familiar. The fries stayed impressively crisp during delivery which is not easy to achieve and they were seasoned perfectly. The cheese curds arrived a bit cool and a few were hollow, which I expected with delivery, but the seasoning had a delicious little kick that made them enjoyable anyway. I stay at the best Western Hawthorne, which is a block away from this place quite often. I have frequented this restaurant/bar a number of times. Every single time I have been there I have had customers and staff make comments that are anti-gay and very judgmental. No matter how much I have tried to engage the staff, the people that have come with me have also tried to engage the staff, the number of times I've been there over the last four years and actually had a positive experience is still resting at zero. The food is decent. It is closer to the hotel, which is why I go. It shows a lot of sports which I like to watch, which is a positive. Today was the last time I will ever go there. Today was yet another time I was watching a game, but some loudmouth friend of the girl behind the bar came in and wanted to watch another game and got her way and got all TVs in the bar changed to what she wanted to watch ignoring everyone else in the restaurant. Great place for a post-game snack and an adult beverage! We stopped in a couple hours after the Cubs game since it was in walking distance to our hotel (The Majestic). What great vibe - a nice mix of locals, Cubs fans as well as some folks from the visiting team. They had the windows open since the weather was gorgeous - there is also outdoor seating available. Was told several times that the kitchen closes every night at 11 PM. Arrived last night at 9:45 PM with my wife for dinner, she had craving for their meatball sandwich. The outdoor patio was locked up, walked inside to ask if we can sit indoors for dinner, was told that kitchen was closed. Wait a minute, I was told the kitchen closes EVERY NIGHT at 11 PM. Pretty young blond girl manager comes up to me politely and tells me that it was very very slow so they closed the kitchen early. So I politely told her "then you don't have set hours." She responds firmly, "yes, we do have set hours, but tonight was very very slow , so we closed early." Oh OK, I understand now, Rocks does have set hours unless it is very, very slow, then Rocks doesn't have set hours. Weird. read more

Loooove myself some Rocks! We live down the street and frequent this place regularly. Obsessed with the burgers, fries, green beans, and beer. We were so depressed when they had the kitchen fire but are happy they are back, with new finishes and the same great burger. Staff is in masks, tables are clean and Ajax feet apart, dogs are still welcome outside. Now that I've been testing the menu more than the burger, I can say, just get the burger. The chicken Mac and cheese is a little pricy for what you get and rather bland in flavor. Chicken strips are real chicken but the shape isn't ideal and can lead to over cooking. Wings are not good, don't fall for that Thursday special...they used to have the Leroy Brown which was an awesome grilled cheese and bbq sandwich...hope to see that back again. Cauliflower wings are also pretty delish. That said I appreciate the slight menu changes monthly and commitment to serving the neighborhood. I love Rocks. Their food always hits the spot and they have decent cocktails. The chicken tenders tossed in a wing sauce are the best - we love the Angry sauce or the buffalo Parmesan garlic. Side of fries is HUGE for $3 and well worth it. I usually get the Chicken Caliente sandwich. It's messy, spicy, cheesy perfection.
