We were here on a weekday afternoon and it was pretty quiet. We ordered a drink and then closed out. When we got the check, the price of our drinks was different from the menu price. When we asked the bartender to correct it, she told us that the person who could correct our check wasn't there. She then started loudly yelling at me that she could take it out of her tip jar if I wanted and she brought her tip jar over to the bar where I was sitting, took the money out and threw it at me. I enjoyed the baby spinach salad with added grilled chicken. It was a whole bowl with a lot of baby spinach and goat cheese. The grilled chicken was well seasoned and delicious. I forgot to ask for my dressing on the side, and thankfully, it wasn't overwhelming. Another person ordered the Abyss burger. I was pleasantly surprised by how spicy it was. I only ate the patty and could taste the heat. I imagine the entire burger was even spicier. TVs covered the walls to watch the game. The inside has good amount of TV's and bar, hi top and booth seating! Most notable outside of the icy cold brews.... Were the options of fun to be had any night of the week! Quality sports bar/restaurant located on the Southport Corridor. It's a good place to watch whichever big sports game is on, plus get some good food, a step above usual sports bar food I'd say. I went twice last month, for some MLB playoffs and NFL games. I got the blackened chicken sandwich and hot Italian sandwiches, both good. It's got a pretty good craft beer list, or plenty other non beer options, or just $5 for domestics. There's a decent amount of space, it's a narrow seating design, instead of being wide and open, but there's still enough tables and TVs spread throughout to fit everyone. They sometimes do trivia in the back section, on Tuesdays I believe. It's a good place to stop at before/after Cubs games or shows at the Music Box. I'd definitely go back again. read more

Celebrated St Pattys day this Saturday here! Probably the best deal in the lakeview area, all you can drink $25 and all you can eat hot dogs, but other food is available a la carte. Forgot to take photos of the food we got a la carte, but I def recommend the chicken tenders, giant pretzel, and fried pickles! They had free green coors koozies, nice Jameson sunglasses, beads and temp tattoos. Service was quick the drinks kept flowing. There was also bagpipers (not sure if that's said correctly) but they stopped in and played a few songs, that was cools! We spent last year here and they offered hot dogs and hamburgers with the all you can eat and drink, so we were expecting both this year but guess that changed. Which is fine since it's st pattys weekend! Two things I do not give a star on is they sold out of green beer by 1pm, which was our time slot to arrive. Kind of a bummer. Nice place on Southport to stop for a cold brew and food. Came here late afternoon on a Friday. They have daily specials. Friday: $9 Flatbreads and $7 bombs. This place has an expansive draft beer selection. I believe over 80 different draft beers. I was impressed with the vast amount of Ciders and Sour Beers. For food: BBQ chicken Flatbread. So good reminder me of Kona Flatbread. The Flatbread came out piping hot. The bbq sauce was sweet and savory. The onions paired well with the cheese and chicken. Delicious. The not-so-good: The service was downright awful in our last visit. Took 15 minutes for the waiter to take our order, and a good 40 minutes for the food to come out. When it did, the onion rings were heavily salted and had a sorry amount of onion. Might as well have fried air and thrown salt on top. The menu has been cut in at least half with COVID as well, which is really disappointing. While in the area, my partner and I searched for a place with a covered patio for drinks because it was raining -- and we were happy when we stumbled upon the outside dining area at The Butcher's Tap. The wooden tables, string lights, and TVs created an approachable, local vibe. We were seated right away by the hostess who wore a mask and gloves. She left and came back quickly with menus and gave us time to look it over before taking our order. I can't stress enough how friendly she was and how it made our experience even better. I love a cocktail and my partner loves dark porters so we ordered the watermelon cocktail, the gram cracker nitro, and a side of tater tots to snack on. The food and drinks came out quickly and at the same time -- all was good, but I definitely recommend this place for beer lovers above all. The beer list is extensive and innovative. I cannot recommend The Butcher's Tap enough!!! We hosted our pre-wedding celebration upstairs in September, with our own dedicated bartender. The windows were open and the weather was perfect! Being that most of our guests were from other states, we wanted to give a true chicago pub experience and The Butcher's Tap delivered!!! We served buffet style sliders, fries, salads, chicken strips, and so much more. The staff (specifically Rovy) was incredible to work with and our guests had such an incredible time! Welcome to the new age of nickel and diming the customer. Salads no longer come with dressing, that costs extra here. Perhaps they're planning on feeding rabbits who can eat just dry lettuce. Beer prices do not match what is on the menu in front of you, it's $1 extra per beer which we pointed out to the staff. The check is not enough, there's 4% extra waiting for you in the form of a "service fee". Who knows what that goes to, but it's not helping the service staff. COVID is over and these BS fees and price gouging has to stop. I did my part to spend extra and keep places afloat when COVID was impacting them, now it's time for a reality check. So I was here over the weekend, visiting town for appointments and some doctors. Popped in here on Saturday to catch up with some friends. First of all, great to see that there is still support for the industry, and this place in particular. They are practicing COVID protocols and make you feel safe, and more importantly- welcome. I was not feeling great, but I ran upstairs and quickly ordered the tomato soup and a side order of onion rings. What a strange mix of food but it helped how I felt. I was upstairs and it was a good scene. Two really good folks working the crowd, working the demand, working hard. Lots of happy people enjoying their time here. In these days where people have been cooped up for so long, this is an industry that has SUFFERED so much in terms of financial, mental, and personal stability. Okay, so one: what is with all the Ohio State Bars in this town? My other fav casual brunch spot is also an Ohio State bar. Maybe I'm out of the loop going to college in Washington State, but jeez. Anyway, on to the review. 10.00 bottomless mims (which I didnt notice until AFTER I ordered a seasonal bev of a cider hot toddy) and plenty of beer on tap (including Guinness!) as well as a substantial brunch menu. We sat upstairs and the service was efficient, but nothing spectacular. It was nice when we got it, but again, not super attentive. Not rude at all like some other Yelpers noted, but still, not spectacular. I saw lots of trips down the stairs to bring up glasses of beer and all the food came from downstairs as well, which explained why my fries were cold. Now, mind you, I've worked in the industry for over 20 years and have eaten many a fine meal cold and over a garbage can, so I can live with cold fries. I am an anomaly though. They dont have any GF bread, but I ordered a Turkey Pesto sandwich, sans bread and it came in a cute bowl (pictured). Definitely delish. I was super happy with the kitchen and their presentation. Got the bottomless mimosas and poutine. Has a bunch of friends that went and the service was amazing. The waiter would bring us a whole bottle at a time with multiple glasses of orange juice to make our own drinks. As soon as we were done with a bottle he'd bring a new one out for us. So, I moved to the area recently. Had stopped by a few months back and had their sheet nachos which can feed 4 comfortably. So, when I bit into this ooze-fest of a burger and discovered the freshness of their patties, I was sold. The caramelized onions and fontina spank it. And steak sauce? Yes please. Arugula? I'm surprised people don't understand how on point arugula is on a burger.... the added peppery green here acting to separate the upper bun from the caramelized bulb of chopped onion resting on the dual patty/fontina combo. The arugula has your back here. It's helping prevent the moisture from them onnies reaching your grubby little fingertips. Grubby indeed. I paired it with the onion rings and fries. Yes, we asked for a split bill... which leaves room for confusion. As a manager you don't come over and talk down to the customer and continue to be defensive and argumentative. Not only did we get overcharged because the manager did not care to listen, but when he came back to hand the bill he continued to argue. This was embarrassing and very disrespectful. When we asked for his name - don't worry about it - was the response... unbelievable. This is not our first time to the bar. My bf and I came on a busy Friday night, and although there a lot of restaurants on Southport that I've been wanting to try, we really just wanted some solid bar food rather than a culinary experience. It was pretty busy when we got there, but we were seated quickly. One thing about it here- it's LOUD. I think they rely on the front garage-style door being open, but when it's chilly the acoustics mean you really have to yell to have any sort of conversation. Not a crippling flaw, but definitely annoying. We started with the cheese curds, which were a bit underdone. They came out ridiculously quick, which is nice but the curds definitely could have used another couple minutes in the fryer. They are served with herb ranch and some sort of red pepper aioli. The red pepper sauce is BOMB! My bf had to take it away so I wouldn't just start eating it plain. For food, he got the French dip trio and I got the fried chicken sandwich. On the French dip, the meat was really tender and juicy, but the onions weren't seasoned and hadn't caramelized properly, so it made the sandwich underwhelming. When there are only 3 ingredients (bread, meat, onions), each of them need to be done well. My fried chicken sandwich was MASSIVE and I had to use a fork and knife. The first few bites around the edges were tasty- the toppings complimented the chicken nicely, but as I got into the center the chicken was incredibly dry. Overall it was okay, but I think they should use smaller cuts of chicken breast to cook it evenly. The service was good for how busy they were, but nothing stood out either way in being good or bad. They had a decent beer selection (particularly what was on draft...I always like cider options and they had one that was a mint one...pretty good). They had so many things on the menu that I kept changing my mind. My friend went with the turkey burger, which she liked. Also, she added the elotes. These were delicious. I made my own sandwich with turkey, roast beef, gouda, and pepperjack. It was then toasted (panini style). It was good, but I wouldn't say it was life-changing sandwich. I had the macaroni and cheese as a side. Also good, but I actually wish it was a little hotter. The cheese wasn't totally melty. But I managed to eat all of it, so not "bad" by any means.
