This place has changed - and not for the better. Staff has turned over. Looks like all of them. One of the new bouncers - that tall thin pencil-neck with glasses is an epic asshole. So closing time arrives. 4:30 AM. They turn up the lights and start screaming at everybody to get the F out. I get up, make my way for one last trip to the restroom and there's Pencil-neck blocking the stairs. I say I just want one relief for the road and he starts ranting, raving and lecturing me. All the while the bar is packed with others who show NO signs of leaving. I have been in enough bars at closing. I understand the need to clear out. BUT I have NEVER had one deny the customers one last trip to the restroom. Instead we have to go piss on the street. That is what happens when these places treat customers like dogs. As for the food: - That has changed. - Ask and they tell you when the kitchen closes. BUT when you try to order, they tell you that your menu item is not sold after midnight. Only a tiny number of items left. - Prices have skyrocketed, into the nonsense zone - Food is not that good. Even after a night of drinking. Especially the tiny post-midnight selection. - Plan on eating before going. Many other places (better) to order food all along Diversey. - I wonder if the previous cook quit. There are three other bars within 500 feet of this place. There are choices. You do not have to put up with this treatment. read more

Was alone in bar as a woman after my friends left and asked a bartender how long until their close to see if I could get a friend to pick me up and she treated me like shit and told me to get tf out. Only had one drink and was polite as I could be and just started crying, 0/10 manners and -100/10 basic respect for someone trying to figure out how to get home. read more

Food was decent. I tried the fried pickles, pepperoni pizza, and the Italian sausage sliders. I've had better fried pickles but these weren't terrible. Same goes for the pizza. The sliders were fine but kind of dry--needed more sauce. Ambiance is that of a dive bar. I am giving this place two stars because I noticed the bartender overcharged me in comparison to my tip amount. Thank god I had a picture of my signed receipt. The owner did back to me fairly quickly with a receipt adjustment. If you eat or drink here make sure you take a picture of your signed receipt. Not sure if there's another derno's on ubereats pretending to be them. Ordered delivery, got the derno's burger. I was looking forward to it but it came deconstructed, with no egg, no bacon, no fries, not even on a brioche bun, just regular old burger bun, the patty is 1/3 lb isntead of 1/2 lb as well Lol how can a restaurant mess up on a signature item with the name of the restaurant in it lol the only reason I can think of is someone is pretending to be them The famous/popular wings are way expensive for just some deep fried wings that's no where near worth the price they are charging for, just hard and bone dry. The come back sauce wasn't good either, it's good when mixed with hot sauce but alone it's just a 1 dimensional sweet sauce. I could have given them 1 star but it's my first time getting food there and it was delivery so, I'm just hoping some one else is pretending to be them on ubereats using their name, address, and number. I've lived down the street from Derno's for my entire 6 years in Chicago. I've been here probably 100 times that I can remember and 100 times that I forgot about. There's only been 1 time I've had a bad time here, and that was unrelated to the Derno's experience (I got in a fight with my mom because i told her a dog ran for mayor of some city in Wisconsin and she said a dog can't run for mayor and long story short things escalated and words were said that shouldn't have been said, again, not Derno's fault, it's the dog's fault for running for mayor). Other than that, the people at Derno's are always great, the security and bartenders are even better, Vince, even the bartender named Asshole if you can believe it. Honestly as long as no one brings up a dog who ran for mayor in Wisconsin you should be all set for a great time here. By the way I still don't speak to my mom because of that incident. I honestly had low expectations for the food here after reading some of the reviews. But it was a Saturday night around 12am and not many places still serve food. I walked it and it was pretty dead. I sat at the bar further back because it was empty (hear it gets crowded around 2am). Got a few drinks with my bf and friends. We ordered fried pickles, fries and medium wings. When the food came out I was surprised with how much food they give. The fried pickles were really good. The fries and wings as well. And the price for the food is bad either. I really liked the consistency of the crust--it was just crispy enough without being too thin. The pizza itself was also pretty good without being overly greasy. It's not the type of place I would run back to in a heartbeat, but definitely a good place to keep in mind if you live nearby and want a pizza. read more

AS INDUSTRY, If I could leave a worse review I could. Got attacked by multiple women In this bar as staff members stood by witnessing this. Was brought outside after this and was attacked multiple times by the same women. Was told to walk home alone because Uber was "taking too long". Was attacked again by the same group of women and told to leave alone. I called police for an escort to my Uber and was antagonized by the staff and the women. Many slurs were used toward me and I tried to leave but was again attacked. I had to flag down police on the street for help from this situation. Terrible security and a worse crowd. Absolutely disgusting. Worst experience I have ever had in absolutely any establishment. I was also charged far beyond my order hours after being forced to leave after being attacked. this was clearly protecting industry friends of the staff. read more

Let me first say this is based on SERVICE. I see that everyone else has had a great experience at good ol' Dernos which confirms exactly what I was already thinking. I visited this place on Friday. May 10 around 8 PM for a Ritual order pickup for Eats Week. The person behind the bar was EXTREMELY rude. I walked in and he said absolutely nothing. There were THREE people in the bar. Him and two people sitting at the bar. I noticed that he was in the middle of a conversation so I decided to give him the benefit of the doubt on the fact that he did not acknowledge me despite making very clear eye contact. One of the men he was talking to decided to stop the conversation. He said: Hey, I also work here, you need something? I said I was picking. The person behind the bar continued his story. Again, I said to myself I will wait until his story his done. The person he was speaking to me looked at me again and said: Do you need something? I said, yes I'm picking up. Again, nothing from the man behind the bar. I finally said loudly, Hey excuse I'm picking up. The man said oh yeah well you were on the phone so I didn't say anything. Now, I 100% understand this perspective. However, when a customer walks into your establishment, you acknowledge them whether or not they're on the phone. He goes on to say, not to me, but the two men sitting at the bar how he's old school and doesn't acknowledge people on the phone. Hunny, this is a bar not a 5 Star restaurant and I was picking up not trying to make an order. "Picking up for Jasmine" is FOUR words that would have taken less than 10 seconds. I don't think I need to end a phone conversation to say that. When he handed me my food, there was a business card attached. However, he removed it making it very clear I was not welcome back. Came here and ordered the medium hot buffalo style wings and was pleasantly surprised. The flavor was great and the heat was just right. The biggest issue was it took about 45 minutes for the food to be prepared and it wasn't too busy. They have a pretty good selection of beers on draft as well as cocktails. read more

This is easily one of my favorite late night spots in lakeview/Lincoln park. It's a great spot to end your night with a few drinks and bar food. They are very industry friendly and a large portion of their crowd are regulars and rightfully so. The bartenders are super friendly, especially shorty with the cool hair. If you don't want to end your night at 2am come here and you're sure to have a good time. Also for late night food you won't be disappointed with anything you get. read more

What a rip-off! My friend and I ducked in here to get out of the rain around 5:30p on a Wednesday. To pass the time, we ordered a well whiskey with soda and a shot of Johnny Walker Black Label. Our bill came to a whopping $19! When we jokingly commented that it clearly wasn't happy hour to which the bartender simply said, "No, it isn't." Um, ok. Nobody has mentioned the pizza here, rightfully as the cheesesteak was great, only losing a star because I thought it was a little dry. They followed my special instructions for a side of sauce and the pizza was delicious. I didn't realize I was a late night girl until I started going to Derno's. Their bartenders are friendly, their prices are affordable, the drinks are always flowing, and the food is fantastic. I love that it's got a family owned vibe with the best homemade pizza and wings around, but also turns wild at night so I can always count on an awesome time. The jukebox, beer pong table, darts and punching bag always give us something fun to do while we drink the night away! So happy to have found my new neighborhood joint! read more
