A nice walk through the neighborhood to get to this corner bistro, if you need a bite to eat after visiting the Musée Jacquemart-André. This was exactly the type of local scene I was hoping for. Assiette de Pomme de Terre, St Nectaire Fondu: It reminded me of raclette, but without all the work of melting the cheese yourself. Tender slices of potato generously covered in a cheese with a lot of personality. I could easily make a meal of just this, but then I'd miss all the other great dishes. Confit de Canard: The skin was perfectly crispy. The meat underneath was so tender and so rich. The potato chunks on the side were also nice and crispy, with a little softness inside. I've ate a lot of duck confit in my day and this ranks towards the high end. Tartare de Boeuf: A classic. All the right ingredients mixed perfectly. The beef itself was fresh and tender. The fries on the side helped at a hearty crunch to the dish. I was quite satisfied! Créme Brûlée á la Vanille: Indulgently creamy underneath and crackling crispy sugar on top. Didn't get to eat here as the restaurant was fully booked all evening. The reason for the 4 stars here is because after he told us they were booked and we left, he went out of his way to come outside after us and apologize for the fact he couldn't seat us. There are hardly any words for what we experienced tonight at this wonderful place. The chef greeted us at the door and showed us to a table. He immediately put us at ease even though we may have been slightly underdressed. This is no stuffy place but most patrons were in business attire. We started with rabbit terrine (Terrine du lapin) and beef marrow (I don't know the French). The terrine was earthy, salty and only slightly gamey. Truly spectacular. I don't have a lot of experience with marrow but the taste was very subtle. I spread it on the toast squares for a saltier experience. Perhaps the thing with marrow is less about taste and more about experience because after a few bites I felt a stirring, a strengthening within myself. This was most welcome as we were exhausted from a very long day of travel on the heels of a week of touring through the Loire valley. Nevertheless, the marrow woke me up, and its subtle flavors revealed themselves as I continued on, fortifying me for the rest of the meal. I chose a main dish of cabbage stuffed with pork in a tomato sauce with carrots. Soft, divine, filling, substantial, peasant type food, but not a hint of greasiness or the sulphuric flavors of poorly cooked cabbage. A dying man could eat this dish and revive. After a few glasses of a wonderful Loire valley red and that cabbage, I felt as though I could think about building a railway. My partner had the pan fried duck on a bed of potatoes and greens. He practically melted in his chair and, although I've never been able to enjoy 'le canard', I had to admit that it wasn't very offensive at all. The potato cubes in the dish were light, with just the slightest hint of a crispy surface. Wow! We ended the meal with dessert, not because we were hungry, but because we still had some wine left in the bottle. That was the second best decision of the night. My partner had the chocolate mousse. He loved it. I had the caramel cream something or other but it was basically a big bowl piled high with huge chunks of the creamiest, dreamiest flan you've ever imagined. The caramelized bits of crust scattered around were the perfect counter to the flan juice. Surely there is a name for this but I don't know it. If you love flan you know what I'm referring to: the sweet, golden, syrupy nectar that flows in the bottom of the pan around the finished flan, all melted sugar and smoke. Now as I lie in bed, clean, refreshed and full, I'm tremendously happy. What started out as a simple quest for sustenance became one of the best meals of the trip, and on our last night here. On my current trip to Paris I am staying at the Relais Monceau. I am here for an extended period, so across the street there is a great bistro that I've eaten at, Le Coin, three nights in a row. For someone with limited (hell, let's say no) French, I've just asked the owner to order for me. Even with no French, if you've eaten traditional French food you'll understand the menu just fine. First night, Cassoulet, which was superb! Chicken or hen, slow roasted in a bean stew. Amazing, Very traditional southern French cooking. Night #2, Braised veal. Same as the night before, super tender, stew style, amazing bread as always! I had the fois as well! A friend had the roasted duck, which was fantastic, and I LOVE duck so I consider myself picky. Night #3, Not sure the name, some sort of cream sauce over a wrapped ham dish. Mushrooms as well. The wine was always perfect, the atmosphere is very classic bistro, and the owners could not have been friendlier. Seriously, you guys, the Cassoulet was one of the best things I've ever tasted! This place is amazing! I hesitated upon reviewing as I didn't want it to give up a local spot but this is about as local as it gets. We walked in and were immediately greeted everyone knew each other and we quickly realized no one really spoke english. We gave hand signs and ordered wine and food in our broken French. We asked the chef to give us whatever was good. The wine and food was perfection, the atmosphere is very classic bistro, and the owners could not have been friendlier! This was so fun! Dead empty when we came in, we were promptly seated and interested to find that, rather than being handed menus, the 25+ items were listed in various places on the walls. The servers spoke almost no English, which was tough for me but my husband could stumble through. We started with the foie, which was just perfect. A huge slice of deeply flavorful pate was accompanied by toast points and fresh baguette. For his main, my husband ordered the steak frites, which were very "meh" - an unexciting hangar steak and hardly-seasoned fries. I reveled in a HUGE salad nicoise that had about a half pound of tuna and a can of anchovies on it. Wine list was on a different wall and we ordered a 1/2 L (~3 glasses) of white wine then another of red. By the time we left, the restaurant was 2/3 full with (what seemed like) local regulars. We really enjoyed this place as it felt very authentic. If you are and an English speaker they did have an English menu. Also, one of the staff members spoke English bit for the most part everyone else spoke French. It did not have that touristy feel that some to the places have around here where everyone is speaking English. As for food and wine, we thought it was great. My husband got the the duck which I tried and thought was great. I got something that started with the word gratin, however it is not pronounced apparently like how we say gratin potatoes. I tried to order it and the guy had no idea, I ended up just pointing. Basically, the gratin thing was the most cheesy lobster & scallop mac and cheese. The sauce was a cream cheese base and tasted like fondue cheese with noodles and seafood swimming in it! So yum! We also had the house red wine which I would say was semi-dry with some fruity notes. This bistro is excellent! We came here with a Road Scholar group and they did great job handling a large group and giving us all menu choices that we're just what we wanted. The anchovie salad was a perfect, and me duck entree was amazing. The skin was crispy and the duck perfectly cooked. Even better it was prepared so it was easy to eat with a knife and fork. The wine was good, and the pannaccotta had a lovely delicate texture and was perfectly sweet. The chef was very attentive and hospitable. I highly recommend this place. read more

I made a point to come to Le Coin for lunch based on the Yelp reviews. We arrived a bit before noon when they open but were seated regardless by the owner. The restaurant was packed by 12:30 with French customers. It is not difficult to figure out who is in charge here, tons of personality. The food was wonderful, everything that came from the kitchen looked great, all traditional french dishes without complications. There were no weaknesses on the menu written on a portable blackboard as is traditional here. The service was excellent, not hovering, but attentive. This isn't a place for those who are lactose intolerant, gluten free, count calories, or like to make special requests. This is not my first time in Paris and what I really wanted was a local French bistro that was popular with locals, buzzy and had good, well cooked simple food. Le Coin hit all of the above. Fantastic restaurant, we were well looked after by the owners and their team. Upon entering you are warmly greeted with a "Bonjour!" from Edith or Thierry or another member of the staff and feel quite at home! Open only Monday - Friday the restaurant is bustling with activity at lunch and tables fill quickly! The menu is extensive and all written in French on a chalkboard on the wall. If you can go with a French native it will help. Even my language skills were at a loss with some of the more traditional dishes! That is if home is more traditional french fare. Yes you can get bone marrow...and those are not small... you can get tripe but there are also fish and fowl options as well. I recommend trying a meat dish if you're not a vegetarian. When we walked into Le Coin, the owner came right up to us with a lovely smile and shook our hands, welcoming into his very busy bistrot. It was packed with locals. The staff was professional and friendly. The Confit du Canard (duck) was absolutely delicious, served with roasted potatoes and a simple salad with a warm dressing, perfect. Le Coin is also a wine bar and there was a good price for the Wine of the Day. The food was so good and the whole experience so memorable, that we came back for lunch again the next day and had Le Coin's Osso Buco. Our second visit was every bit as good.
