What a hidden gem! So my mom and I were going to the Moulin Rouge, but we had not bought the dinner package so we needed to eat before the show. This restaurant is on a side street about 1 block from the Moulin Rouge. We walked up and down the block perusing menus and although this one didn't have anything that unusual it had a solid French menus and great reviews on Yelp so we decided to check it. The place is nothing special from the outside and honestly not that much to look at from the inside either. It looked like an old bar or pub, but we were hungry and we had only an hour until the show. We both ordered a kir. I love these things and had more than I can count in our recent trip to France. This was the best one I had. It wasn't one of the best. It was THE best, and it was one of the more reasonable ones too. It was only about 4 Euro. The bartender appeared to be a one man show. He was running the bar, taking orders, and delivering food, but he was so kind and very efficient. He also spoke English which was helpful because our French is limited. My mother ordered the French onion soup. We are Floridians so it was very cold for us and mom had a chill she just couldn't seem to shake. She ate lots of soup on this trip. She said this was her second favorite French onion soup of the trip (her favorite was in Bayeaux). I ordered a Croque Monsieur, which made my mother laugh because I think I ate 6 of them over the course of our trip and this was my second one that day. Leave me alone I love them! Let me tell you, this one was exceptional. It was the best one I had the whole trip. The bread was thick. The meat was substantial and the cheese was ooey gooey and rich. Sooo good. The best part was we were able to eat in a relatively short amount of time so we were not late to the show and the prices were very reasonable. I would definitely recommend this place. FYI - They do have outdoor seating, but it is cramped and everyone out there was smoking so we chose to eat indoors.

so far the best french meal i had in paris. the arancini was very excellent. the fries are better than most restaurants here. the mille feuille of tomato/mozzaralla was basically caprese. but very good. the beef bourguignon was fantastic. perfection. kir royale good. definitely recommend.

    The infamous tripe sausage...

We walked into this hole-in-the-wall joint that looked like a run down bar. All customers were locals. So here's where things get daring, I ordered the famed chitterling sausage, basically tripe sausage. I've had tripe before in stews, or fried crispy and those were good. Let me tell ya, the difference with this one though is that this one had the most deeply intense gamey, barely-cooked tripe taste of any tripe I've ever tasted. What made it worse was the chewy rubbery texture. In summary, it smelled like sh-- and tasted like sh--. Five stars -- for my ethnic experience. Kidding aside, whether you like this or not depends on whether you grew up eating this stuff. The locals love it to death. Otherwise, the other less daring members of my table ordered more conventional items that were delicious. This is as good as it gets for local "hardcore" french cuisine. Otherwise, they have a bar. Other than Starbucks, this might be a great place to meet Parisians.

We needed to eat somewhere before the Moulin Rouge and found this cozy little restaurant on Yelp. So glad we did! The meals were basic but easily the best food we had in Paris!

We had wine, cheese, and charcuterie here as the appetizer of a food tour. From the outside, it looks like any pub, but it was the best wine we had all week and the food was in our top favorites of the week as well. We were able to sample 3 types of cheese, prosciutto as well as a meat spread, which was somewhat similar to pulled pork. All were fantastic! I can only vouch for appetizers, but wow were they delicious!

Nice little hole-in-the-wall kinda place. I ate the very well priced dish of the day; consisting of beef, house fries, and salad with blue cheese sauce. It was delicious accompanied with a happy hour pint of kronenbourg. Very French, would recommend.

I was seated in the backroom which was all high tables and very quiet. Notre Pâté en croûte - This was great. A slice of bread with chunks of duck and other meat with pickled items on the side (which I always love!) and a little bit of lettuce. It is not like a spreadable paté. Capra (salade) - this was a large salad with three large fried goat cheese balls. I had to take much of it with me. It has a variety of ingredients which don't necessarily go together but you can mix and match with each bite. They have a QR code to their website for the English menu if you need. I was stopped at the door asking if I paid which was strange because the tables in my section all have QR codes on them to pay before leaving. Do Parisians not use these? Next time: I'll sit upstairs and try some other dishes.

The food was served tapas style, and they have deals such as getting 5 (or 10!) plates at a discounted price. We ordered 5 for the two of us, but the tapas here are much larger than they are in the states, so we were STUFFED and didn't even finish three fourths of it! Well worth the money. Because it is a more authentic place, most waiters didn't speak English. They were helpful to the best of their ability, and I would highly suggest giving them a try even if you're not overly confident in your French!

Unfortunately, it was past 10 pm so a lot of places were closed. We were getting frantic trying to find a restaurant that was still open. We finally pinged this place on GoogleMaps. I have to say, this place is the definition of a hidden gem. It's a small French tapas place off on a side street that unless you were really searching, you would probably walk by it in favor of larger restaurants. I don't know if our waiter was also the owner or the sommelier, but either way, his English was limited. Luckily, my fiancee's sister speaks French so she was able to translate the menu (to an extent). As such, this was a tapas restaurant so everything was small plates and meant to be shared. I don't remember the exact name of everything we ordered, but I remember a Pad Thai, a beef dish, smoked salmon, octopus, and a fried dish (maybe calamari, but I don't remember). The food is excellent and packed with flavor. You'd be surprised how filling these little dishes can be. If you ever come to Paris, I recommend going off the beaten path for this little piece of heaven.

Unfortunately, it was too early for the tartare as they only serve that during lunch/dinner hours. So we ordered an onion soup, a dozen snails, and a cheese plate. The onion soup was really good. The cheese was nice and melty and slightly charred in some spots. I shared this with my husband but I probably could have eaten two of these on my own. The snails were great as well. But I feel like 12 is a little too much for two people, but 6 wouldn't be enough. For the cheese plate, I don't remember what was on it but I remember not liking the harder cheeses and really liking the gorgonzola. I wish we found out about this place sooner so we could have tried a proper meal. If anyone gets a chance to try the beef tartare, let me know!
