Broken hearted than we spent our final night in Paris at this establishment. We had so been looking forward to it. We have NEVER been treated so badly on purpose at any restaurant such as we were here. To say the servers were rude was an understatement. They sat us by the kitchen - wanted us to place our order the minute we sat down - and refused to help us with our menu questions. We were literally in and out within 40 minutes. Still kicking ourselves that we didn't walk out but never imagined it could go so bad so fast. Again devastated we wasted our last night here. Would give zero stars if possible. read more

Very good food destroyed by nasty service. Food was excellent and the woman that greeted us (Sara) was charming. But the server that waited on us was awful. She was the stereotypical nasty waitress and the perfect example of poor service can destroy a great meal/ experience. She was inattentive and downright surly, throwing the plates on the table with what can only be described as a sneer. The service was the worst I have ever had. I booked the reservation over a month in advance and ended up seated by the bathroom in a dank corner of the restaurant. The waitress was incredibly rude. Insisting we order immediately. We barely finished our meal and still had wine left when they told us people were waiting for our table, which was not the case. Hey this is cousin critics. This is Maddie. So we are in 7 Arr and FYI we are 12 and 14 with our grandparents . So we arrive to the restaurant and it's nice and quaint. We get seated by a nice waiter and sat down at a booth. We look at the menu and we like the choices. Seems more on the meatier side rather than seafood. We make our selections and our nice waiter, Victorio, Tom, and Sarah, - they were our waiters. Victorio wrote down our choices and our excellent wine (for the grandparents of course). It was Margaux 2017. We ordered the crispy rice and salmon kind of like sushi. And the grilled squid as appetizers. The crispy rice was great! And the grilled squid sauce was delicious. As the 14 year old, I couldn't stop dipping my food in the sauce. My grandma had to tell me to stop . So for the entrees me (14) and my grandma shared the lamb shoulder and it was excellent. We liked it and the sauce. My cousin (11) ate the skirt steak; she inhaled it. She loved it and she said it was amazing. My grandfather had steak a poire. He loved it and when my grandmother tasted the sauce and then she took it from him . Afterwards, we got dessert and my cousin (11) and my grandparents and I had the French toast. The French toast was TO DIE FOR. Actually not to die for because people shouldn't die for French toast.... That's not the point. The point is, the French toast was incredibly incredible. And my cousins ice cream was great; actually vanilla bean not fake vanilla. Overall, this is THE place to go to, to have an authentic Parisian restaurant. Two thumbs up. PS: GREAT MUSIC. Old rap. We came here on a Monday night, and since we made reservations quite late in the game, only bar seats were available. Aux Pres, owned by renowned chef Cyril Lignac, offers a 3-course meal at 49 EUR, which is an absolute steal, especially by Paris standards. However, compared to the other restaurants we visited in Paris (i.e. Fulgurances, Mensae and Ellsworth), Aux Pres did not impress, both from a food and value perspective. The appetizers we tried were pretty mediocre. My husband ordered the spicy crispy prawns romaine salad with a sesame dressing. The prawns weren't crispy enough and there was nothing special about the sesame dressing (reminded us of a salad we had at Guu Izakaya, but that one was even more flavourful). In addition, there was no thought over the presentation of the dish. It was just a few pieces of fried prawns over a bed of shredded lettuce. I had the crispy rice, marinated sea bream with chipotle mayo, and similarly, there was nothing worth mentioning about the dish. As for the mains, my husband ordered a scallop dish that came with julienned apples and a creamy foam. There was a nice sear on the scallops, but it lacked the unique fresh sweetness that you would expect from sea scallops, and the portions were rather small. I ordered the wild cod caramelized with miso and cauliflower wasabi and it was a winner. The fish was flavourful and tender, and the fresh sliced cauliflower and pickled vegetables added a nice textural crunch. Quite a contrast from the appetizers, the desserts were to die for. I ordered the hazelnut caramel pear french toast with vanilla ice cream and the combination was absolutely heavenly. In Toronto, caramel desserts are usually overly sweet, but the amount of sweetness in this french toast was perfect. My husband ordered the warm chocolate cake topped with vanilla ice cream and he thoroughly enjoyed it. The flavours were complex and the cake was decadent. Overall, we enjoyed our meal at Aux Pres, although we felt there wasn't much thought put into the ingredient combinations compared to the other restaurants we visited in Paris. read more

Best meal we had in Paris during our honeymoon. Fun atmosphere, friendly waitstaff, killer soundtrack and the food was insane. We both had the starter/entree/dessert option for 45€ each; for what we got -- we would've paid 100€ each, it's that good! Lastly, the chef greeted us at the door and spent the entire evening checking in on his guests. And not in one of those annoying ways, but in a way that made you feel like you were having dinner at his personal house. The moment we stepped in to this restaurant gave an indication of our experience to be - we went in, said BONJOUR to the maitre d who was a bespectacled middle-aged woman but she ignored us. When her staff asked her where to seat us, in nonchalant manner, she relegated us to the worst table in the house -- the one next to the kitchen where a set of French doors swung non-stop throughout the whole evening we were there. There were 3 of us; we placed our belongings - bags and coats - on the 4th empty chair. The Maitre d came over, pulled away our chair and claimed for her own without asking - she said: "J'ai besoin ce chaise" (I need this chair) and grabbed it and expected us to remove our belongings on the chair. Throughout, absolutely no eye contact with us nor a word of apology. Fifteen minutes later, the Maitre D returned this chair. Half an hour later, this dowager took our chair again (and gave it to another table for the second time) - it felt like we were at Macdonalds. Whilst I would love to talk more about the food at this restaurant - it was mediocre to slightly above average -- i cannot help myself but notice how restaurant service at Aux Pres has 2 standards -- the Maitre D would greet other non-Asian guests with panache while she completely ignored us right from the beginning the moment we stepped into the restaurant until the final end. I would suggest that if you are not caucasian, don't go to Aux Pres because it seems that they have different standards for different races. read more

Fantastic meal, wait staff was affable, and the ambiance was perfect! The Hors d'oeuvres were my favorite part of the meal, very unique and full of intricate flavors. Our waiter provided suggestions, was attentive, and polite. There was a definite buzz in the small sized restaurant. Everyone was conversing but not to the point of it being too loud, and the lighting was just enough to see your delicious food and beautiful date and definitely added to the intimacy of the meal. Pricey, but worth it. Make sure you have reservations or sit at the bar, if they have room. My husband and I stayed in an apartment, literally across the street from the restaurant (it was a disappointment but thankfully the restaurant was not). We ate here twice and found ourselves stopping in for a glass or two of champagne at the end of other evenings elsewhere. The restaurant host (and often times server/bartender), a thin fellow with little or no hair and intense eyes, seemed surly/fiesty at first, but turned out to be very nice and funny and was patient with my attempts to speak French. There is a short dark-haired women who, unfortunately, is not not so kind. The first night my husband and I shared what we would call an heirloom tomato salad with the freshest, most exquiste fresh goat ricotta (I believe) cheese -- it literally melted in my mouth. Great seasoning with fleur de sel and fresh cracked pepper on exceptional quality olive oil and fresh basil leaves. We then shared the beef tartare as our entree -- it's huge. The meat is cut into thicker cubes than what I'm used to, but the flavors were wonderful and they came with just about the best frites I've had. The second time, I had the tomato salad again -- seasoning and quality of tomatoes wasn't nearly as good as the first time; however, the goat cheese was equally as good. Then, my husband and I shared the best burger we've had in Paris. Great bun, exceptional quality meat (Aubrac beef -- a very old French grass fed breed of cattle used for high quality beef), topped with a crispy (not too salty) piece of bacon and an over-easy quail egg. Yum! One night we tried the chocolate souffle for dessert -- very good, but not my favorite version (actually, I prefer the lighter Grand Marnier or lemon souffles). Each night we'd try red wine by the glass and found several we liked. Of course, I'd have to start my meal with a glass of rose Champagne ... some nights I'd finish my meal with another! Intimate restaurant with no outside seating. We sat at the end of the bar most nights (never tried to make a reservation). The restaurant opened about 4 months ago and is a complete renovation to achieve a 1940s (or so) atmosphere. read more

This restaurant is across the street (alley really) from the hotel I stay at in Paris. Last year I noticed it was always packed and very lively, but I couldn't get a table without a reservation. This year I made a reservation and had an amazing meal of cod with vegetables and a sauce to die for, and cheesecake with mango for dessert. The best kir I have ever had with Vedrenne cassis, and a glass of a lovely white wine selected by the maître d'. It's on a tiny street in the 6th but definitely worth looking for! read more

I loved this restaurant. Everything was perfect right down to the awesome friendly staff. Great trendy vibe, fun atmosphere but the food is the star of the show. There were 4 of us dining so I got to try a little bit of everything. Do not leave without trying the Crispy Rice with Tuna it is out of this world. Came here originally for Sunday brunch, popped in without a res and while there were tables available the host said it was full with reservations. I've heard this place is super busy on Sunday so I wasn't surprised. But the bar was totally empty so I asked about those seats and he said they were also reserved. Hm, ok. My mom and I left to eat at Cafe de Flore. I made a lunch res weeks later with a friend and we had an amazing experience - I enjoyed every bite I had especially the crispy rice appetizer and the servers were super friendly (I speak minimal French but my friend is fluent) service was a tad slow but that's typical. I asked about the bar seats on Sunday and the server said they are not usually for reservations. So I thought this was really weird and the host I saw at lunch was not the same guy I initially spoke to but it definitely made me feel a little uncomfortable. There's a previous review with an Asian guy mentioning how he felt there was a case of racial discrimination at Aux Prés, maybe so.
