So, apparently we visited Paris in the "off-season" so the majority of restaurants/bars/cafes were closed. This restaurant was one of two within a reasonable walking distance from our hotel, so, having visited the other restaurant the previous evening, we decided to give this one a try. I will start off by saying that the food and drinks were spectacular. We definitely got our money's worth here and I would highly recommend this place simply based on the food. However... if you decide to visit still dressed in your "walking around" clothes without a reservation... be prepared. The staff seemed to be less than impressed by our presence. It was almost like we were contaminated. Even customers were visibly put-off by our sharing their space - the woman seated at a neighboring table would even make sure to touch/protect her personal items every time I moved. Word to the wise - don't dress down for this spot. We did have one waitress who was really sweet and helpful, I wish I remembered her name but it's been a little over a week since our visit. The chicken with mushroom sauce is something I will dream about for the rest of my life. If you order the steak, ask them to salt and pepper it before grilling. Skip the green beans. read more

Our son asked to come here after hearing how much we enjoyed our dinner a few nights ago. He wanted the sole after my wife told him how great it was. He agreed that it was excellent. My wife had the truffle risotto and said it was delicious. I ordered the scallops and truffle mashed potatoes and was not disappointed. It was very good. The cocktails, wine and dessert were all excellent. The service was as good as the other night-excellent. This restaurant will be one our pleasant memories of Paris. read more

Our hotel receptionist recommended this restaurant as it was close to our hotel and it's one of her favorite restaurants. We came here just after they opened for the evening and immediately sat down outside on their beautiful patio. They didn't speak perfect English, but were accommodating to helping me find something on the menu that was gluten free. The waitress said that the chef could modify most everything on the menu. My mom and I shared the flank steak with shallots along with a salad and string beans. Everything was delicious. The steak was cooked to our liking and was so flavorful. The chef was unable to make the sauce gluten free, but he still topped it with shallots. The vegetables were very fresh. With most places closed for the month of August, we ended up returning here several other nights and didn't have quite the same experience. Keep in mind, my experience with French restaurants is limited, at best. However, this was one of the best restaurants I've ever visited. I've read some of the other reviews where people talk about how rude the staff was, etc. That wasn't our experience, at all. Having said that, there was a waitress there who was rude. But, I think she's just kind of that way. We didn't have a reservation, however the maitre d' accommodated us and was very friendly and helpful. I've mentioned this in other reviews of Parisian destinations, but a little effort on our part goes a LONG way. I greeted him immediately as I approached and spoke in French (I've been listening to audio books for the last month or so). This is a big deal... I can't stress enough how much the French seem to appreciate this. The food? Wow. The bread, of course, was amazing. And the butter... I don't know what it is about French butter, but I could eat bread and butter all day everyday here and be happy. We had the baked camembert, which was lovely. Wonder Wife and I both ordered steak in pepper sauce, my daughter ordered the ribeye and my mom ordered steak with shallots. I believe my cut was a sirloin, and it's one of the best steaks I've ever had in my entire life. It was cooked (medium-rare) perfectly and the sauce was unreal. But, the sides - wow. I don't know what they put in the mashed potatoes - crack cocaine? - but, they were absolutely amazing. I ordered green beans (trying to at least be semi-responsible) and I've never tasted anything like them. I asked how they were made and it was water, olive oil and salt. How in the world did they get that kind of flavor from that? The downside? Expensive. Entrees are about 35E per person and the least expensive bottle of wine was 32E (and per-glass is about 16E). It's also a beautiful place. We truly enjoyed the experience, although we won't be able to afford to eat there again, LOL. read more

Nice wait staff. Guests were mostly French. Dinner started off with gazpacho and their famous burrata with cherry tomatoes and basil - both were very very good and would order again. Kids ordered Tournedos (beef filet wrapped in bacon) with crispy fries (fried in duck fat?), I ordered the sole with fingerling potatoes in a light broth, and hubby ordered the Magret Canard sud Ouest (duck breast, wine reduction sauce, olives) with sweet potato mash. This resto is close to our rental place AND is open in August (hard to find) so we will b going back a couple more times to try out the rest of the menu! read more

Gorgeous small restaurant with amazing food; I'm just sorry we were here in winter so we couldn't sit outside without freezing. We absolutely did not experience the rude service some of the other reviewers did maybe it's hit-and-miss and we were there on a hit night, but it seems to be pretty popular with locals too. I did note a distinct increase in warmth when we spoke to the waiters in French, but that falls under the common-sense rule of "Don't go to a country with a different language unless you're at least prepared to learn hello, goodbye, please, and thank you." The wine list is also fantastic. Ask the waiters for their advice. Ours did right by us in a major way. read more

My family and I are visiting Paris for a month like we do every year and were looking for a new neighborhood place for lunch. We came to Le Basilic because the cuisine looked quintessential French! Yum! We had the sardines, tuna tartare, shrimp risotto and steak tartare. The food was fantastic (not so much the steak tartare - explained later)! The reason for the 2 stars? The TERRIBLE service! The waiter was less than professional. Everything took so long!! It took him 15 minutes to get us menus after we were seated and even more time to take our orders. When the food came, my husband's meal never showed up --- the waiter clearly forgot to place the order for the steak tartare. By the time the steak tartare arrived at the table, the rest of us were mostly finished with our meals (that's how long it took for the steak tartare to arrive!) and he didn't even apologize or acknowledge the mistake! We asked twice for salt and pepper and ketchup - we got our ketchup for the fries 15 minutes later....no salt and pepper still. I guess this waiter can only function in 15 minute increments. You would think that if an order was missed that the waiter would get the kitchen to fulfill that order first since you messed up - not the customer's fault! The steak tartare was not good. It was drowned in sauce and tasted overwhelmingly like ketchup and mayonnaise - bleh! The presentation was horrible too - it looked like dog food in a bowl. We managed to finish half of it before giving up. Finally when it came time to paying, it took the guy almost 20 minutes to take the plates in, walk back and forth 3 times before coming to take our payment. Then he forgets a pen for us to sign the receipt and had to go back in! We didn't wait - just got up and left. We really wanted coffee and dessert but didn't have the energy. Funniest? When the same waiter asked the two diners next to us (local businessmen) how they enjoyed their meals, the diners said in French "It was good but it was long" to which the waiter replied "Well, that's normal". No apologies for the delay because he could care less! I felt a little better knowing it wasn't just us. Too bad tip is included - otherwise we would have left nothing. It's a shame that poor service ruined this dining experience for us. As good as the food was (most of it), the experience ruined it for us - we won't be coming back. I've never been made to feel like such an intrusion on someone's existence as I did here. We come to Paris every year as we have a place here. There are so many great restaurants in Paris - if you can go elsewhere, you should. read more

Good traditional French food which was delicious, especially the veal. Nice atmosphere. Clientele almost all French which we think is a good sign and more fun than a restaurant packed with tourists.
