We stopped here on a whim while travelling thru Abq. We were craving a dessert and we thought this would be a great place to get something sweet. As soon as we walked in, a man approached us asking for change. We did not have any and asked him if he wanted a sandwich. He asked for 2 eclairs, which looked wonderful. While we were waiting to order and pay, an employee approached us and upon finding out we were buying a homeless person a treat, she shook her head "no" and started on this "they have a website where they share locations and restaurants where customers will buy them food". We were so taken back by her unwillingness to let us purchase a treat for a person in need we decided to not buy anything and walked out. Aside from the eclairs, we were looking at some of their cakes and strudels. But I guess lacking humanity cost them a rather good sale. We get the point behind her not wanting us to buy that man a treat, but also, humiliating us in the middle of the store was not a good idea. I visited the bakery in the summer and, for the most part, it was ok. We had sandwiches which, a tad overpriced but still decent. Visited again on 2/17 and it was a bit disappointing. They close early on Mondays so you're not going to find a large selection of pastries. So, no Breslin for me that day. The roast beef sandwich was dry and very basic (meaning I could have made it myself in my own kitchen with more bells and whistles). No pickle, no lettuce, no tomato... not even Rye bread (they were out). I had to ask for mustard so I could get it down. Also, one of the servers was hacking up a lung in the area where the sandwiches were being made so, we had to move to these cute but uncomfortable princess type table and chairs. Maybe not have sick or respiratory challenged workers near the food. My take: Monday, Monday, can't trust that day at Le Chantilly. Try another day. read more

I have been coming here since I was a child and have never had a bad experience. My favorite thing is the green chili egg and cheese stuffed croissant, it is to die for. I had ordered my birthday cake from here, but because it was initially close to Thanksgiving they weren't able to do the design I wanted (which to be fair was somewhat complicated). But then they gave me a great birthday surprise by doing the design! And best of all it was also a delicious cake. They went above and beyond, and their extra effort has turned me into a loyal customer. You can't get service like this at a big chain! These folks came through with flying colors making fruit tarts for a friend who's allergic to everything, it seems. Ordering process was smooth, easy, & professionally handled. While scouting bakeries for the tarts, I grabbed a chocolate croissant & a cup of coffee to enjoy in the delightfully lovely interior of this bakery/bistro. The coffee had excellent flavor & sufficient caffeine to carry me through my morning. However, in spite of having nice flavor, one demerit for the croissant being a tad dry and semi-tough. It took a fair bit of sawing with the dinner knife to get through the bottom layer of the pastry. A disappointment given that croissants are the touchmark of a French bakery. As noted, the staff here is friendly and engaging. I've gotten nothing but great customer service from the staff. To me, the wall mural is pretty enough to justify a trip here all by itself. Cute little place. I went to try the pastries, even though I thought the prices seemed high. I paid just under $8 with tax for 1 pecan roll and 1 blueberry cheese Danish. That is nearly $4 each. These items were good, but they did not stand out as delicious. I thought I might buy a whole strudel for $15 but they were on the small side. In Chicago, where I am from, I can get a larger whole strudel for half the price. I doubt if I will go back for pastries, but I might try their food options. I can get pastries that are just as good elsewhere for less. Their coffee and food prices seem more reasonable than their pastry prices. read more

I've been looking forward to this place for a while. I went in with my friend last o celebrate my birthday. I ordered the French taco and it was delicious. The waiter said as so helpful and sweet he made me feel comfortable asking for a menu due to my visual impairment. My friend paid for our meal and I decided to stay behind and buy myself and my father a pastry. I was rung up and the cashier said it was the eclair and the other pastry and the breakfast. I told her no not the breakfast that my friend has already paid for it and she said okay. It's sad as the beautiful wall murals really create a nice ambiance. We ordered a Chocolate Croissant that had to be at least 2 days old, as it was very dry and not the fresh & fluffy texture that a Croissant should exhibit. I have ordered fresh made to order Pumpkin Cheesecake Rolls or Carrot cakes during the holidays that have come out lovely so I know they have the ability to produce good treats. Yummmm.... my sweet tooth is lovin' the yelp app on my iPhone! Once again, I found another gem thanks to yelp. I arrived close to closing on a Saturday evening -- appreciated having the hours listed on the app. When I arrived things were slowly starting to wind down, and there was one customer inside enjoying their coffee. But there were soooo many delicious looking pastries - - how would I be able to decide?? I ended up choosing the Marquise de ville and one of their "homemade oreo" cookies. The worst bakery I've been to in NM. I'll never go back. Service: The people behind the counter were rude and had a sort of confrontational tone about everything. One of the employees sneezed right onto food she was handling and still put it out for sale. We didn't get everything we paid for. Food: The cake was not sweet at all and had a sandy texture that I think was freezer burn. The "frosting" was raspberry jelly. From a jar. We ended up throwing it out. Not much value for $40. We have been going there for years and always been very happy. The food is still good but the customer service hasn't been as good. This last visit will be our last.. I went in on a Tuesday and order 2 cakes to pick up on Friday. When I went to go pick them up on Friday I found out the cakes weren't ready because the lady who took my order had written down the wrong daye. I explained that I had driven from the other side of this city for these cakes. I asked the girl who was helping me how we were going to make this right. Her response was I don't know. She checked with the Baker and found out that the cakes could be ready in an hour. I said it seemed like my 2 options were to either hang out for an hour or drive home and turn around and drive back. I've been to this bakery/cafe several times, but it's always been in the afternoon, and there's not that many items left. I've had the brownies, and they were good. I was able to make it in early today, and was able to take a tasty breakfast home. I bought several things to share with my parents. I got a "French taco." It was a croissant pastry filled with ground beef, onions, and green chiles. I also got a turkey, cheese and green chile croissant. And lastly, I got a slice of the quiche lorraine. I was afraid that they were going to be dry and hard, but a minute and a half in the microwave, and I had a delicious breakfast. Everything was soft, fresh, and very tasty! We have now gone to Le Chantilly twice, and both times were very disappointed. First time we went the food was good enough, but the service SUCKED. No other way to put it. We thought maybe it was because they were busy or short handed, but that wasn't the case as we recollected on this last visit today. The same thing happened today as on our last visit. However, this time we didn't stand for it and left before ordering. Upon arrival into the store we did not get any greeting from the two servers behind the counter. Another guest came in behind us and they greeted her - strike 1. We had to acknowledge the server in order to find out we can sit wherever we pleased. We chose the counter. The server asked what we would like to drink - I ordered. The server was not sure if they were out of one drink we ordered and walked away - NEVER TO RETURN. We glanced at the menu, and glanced, and glanced hoping someone would come back to us to take our order - or heck, just bring our drinks. Nothing. An older gentleman (who from the servers joyful greetings was a regular) sat at the bar. The one server who took our drinks engaged him and told him they only had one danish left. He then proceeded to order. The server walked away and another server walked up to the gentleman, gave him silverware and proceeded to get his order - ALL THE WHILE NO ONE SPOKE TO US. My recommendation - unless your over the age of 60 and come into Le Chantilly regularly - AVOID AT ALL COSTS. read more

I only come here because my fav place for a decent croissant (La Quiche P.) does not open till 8am daily... and Le Chantilly is on my Saturday 8am Pilates teaching route. As a constant reader of Yelp reviews, it's a warning sign when I don't see a stream of chronological, up-to-date good, would recommend kind of reviews. When I first visited, I was optimistic, wanting to support local biz... the croissants and croissant cousins all look over baked with brown-colored rather than golden buttery crust. I felt that I was picky when I tried to eye a not-so-burnt croissant. The cookies weren't that great that I'd buy again. When those 2 staples failed my expectation, I naturally don't have any desire to try the cake looking stuff. I'm afraid I was going to be disappointed, too. Ambience counts and over the years, I really enjoy seeing how the mural has progressed. Having watched it from the first paint strokes, I am happy to see it only gets better with age. A labor of love, much like their wedding cakes, it lends the feel of a true Parisian Bakery. Sad to see they have hit or miss days, after reading some of the reviews here, I hope that will not deter you. They have some reliable things that are unusual. The croissants are worth it. How many shoppes actually make theirs from scratch? They are works of love. Can get them stuffed with green chile, turkey or ham and cheese, several other interesting ingredients. I like them. Pure and simple good eats. In Paris, these would pass with flying colours. The chocolate eclairs, also pass the test of authenticity. Quiches of several lovely varieties make for a good lunch. I like anything with green chile that they offer. Also really enjoy finding treats here for my mom, who is often off her food these days. But coming here is like a small trip to France or Switzerland for a petite four and a cup of good coffee. Nothing fancy, really. But special in its own right. I like that everything is made from scratch. Coffee is good, real cream, always a plus. Nothing is as irritating as fake creamer. This place must buy butter and cream by the ton, the butter cream is the real deal. The recipes are rock solid. Yes, every place can have bad days, and the staff might just have their favorites. For me, they have always been helpful and kind to me and my picky little mother. For me that is a big deal. She is a true expert for anything chocolate and pretty much everything she has tried along those lines has passed her finicky test. Win! The Challah is a Friday staple, not the best I have ever had. But it is hard to find good Jewish fare here in New Mexico, imnsho. The baquettes are reliable. The chocolates solidly lovely. I have not yet tried their catering, but the turkey is always succulent and fresh that they add to their sandwiches and croissants. We have enjoyed every soup we have tried here. I can imagine that their catering would hold up to any here in town. I would like to try one of their wedding cakes and intend to. Not that I am getting married, but just to be able to order a cake of such perfection. Why not, I say! I will always miss Zinns and the horrible way their shoppe had to close. But as a bakeries go here, you can get some good Jewish Rye and Challah. Not the best, but then again, this is not NYC. And these days, Trader Joe's Jewish Rye is very reliable and fresh as well. So all is not lost, if you need to make your own Reuben, for instance, which I hope everyone does. We lost the best Reuben in town a long time ago, and none of the new places have yet to compare.
