Enjoyed a cozy dinner-a-deux at Le Bistro last night! Christmas Day, the hostess at the restaurant we had planned to go to must've thought we meant Christmas EVE instead of Christmas DAY. They were closed. We were literally All Dressed Up With No Place to Go! Trusty Google saved the day! We landed at Le Bistro, French, Steakhouse, a delightful & charming spot on 4626 N Federal in LHP. They were so kind to accommodate us at the last moment... it was just lovely! Our appetizers were: a beautiful greens salad with onions, green olives, hearts of palm, radish, and tomato with a light dijon vinaigrette (he), escargot with perfect garlic butter and a mini French bread for dipping (me). Intermezzo was a light shaved mango sorbet which cleansed our palates for the entree. He: tender turkey with sage & onion dressing, tasty gravy, mashed potatoes light n' buttery, and green beans. Me: roast beef, medium rare, tasty beef gravy, bearnaise sauce on the side, burgundy truffle whipped potatoes and tiny asparagus tips. The merlot, Chevalier Alexis Lichine, vin de France, was smooth as soft velvet. So good & reasonably priced I enjoyed two generous glasses Dessert was couveture chocolate mousse (he) and vanilla creme brulee (me). And cups of the best coffee! Ambience is soft and delightfully cozy. We enjoyed a cozy half-booth in the corner. The service was impeccable & unobtrusive. I dreamed of enjoying a French Onion soup here on a chilly, blustery night. Holiday dinner is prix fixe and expensive (but SO worth it!). Wine is reasonably priced. I imagine regular dinner service would be high end, however, I believe if you'd enjoy a French Steakhouse that would be as comfortable in the South of France as it is on Federal in LHP. Had dinner here last night, ordering off the Dine Out Ft. Lauderdale menu. The escargots and beef Wellington were both good, though personally I don't think the Wellington was worth the up charge. Hole in the wall family owned restaurant with great food and friendly staff! Brought my mom here for her birthday and everything was delicious! Our server was super sweet and made dinner very pleasant. We ordered from the Dine Out Lauderdale menu and each had 3 course meal. I started with the blue crab cake and it was packed with crab. The fish eggs on top and the cucumber pieces made everything refreshing. The lamb chops were very tender and juicy. The gravy sauce was amazing. The green beans and mini tomatoes were a nice compliment to the meat. My creme brulee was the perfect sweet end to my courses. My mom's escargot was garlicky and delicious. Lots of garlic butter to dip the bread in. The fish of the day was Atlantic cod and it was pan fried with capers. It was light and my mom really enjoyed it. One of the best meals my brother and I have EVER had! Chilean sea bass melted in my mouth and was surrounded by delicious fresh vegetables. My brother had a rack of lamb that was perfectly juicy and tender. The chocolate torte dessert was very rich and the strawberries tasted ripe. Not hard to see why this has been of the few successful Kitchen Nightmares restaurants. Elin was a friendly and attentive hostess/server. Andy also wished us well. We had a lovely dinner here for my birthday in this small restaurant in lighthouse point. It is located on the east side of federal highway/US 1 in the same shopping strip as papas raw bar, so the spaces fill up fast. Luckily, we'd read on their website before coming that they have spaces set aside with traffic cones. As directed, we removed one of the cones and pulled into one of their reserved parking spaces right in front of the restaurant. We've been dining early to avoid any crowds, and here, too, we started out as the first table occupied inside. It is not a fancy decorated venue, but was comfortable. We had very attentive and pleasant service throughout even after a few other parties arrived. We skipped a salad or appetizer to save room for dessert. My husband was happy to start with a glass of a favorite wine by Kim Crawford, however. I ordered their breast of duck entree. The duck was perfectly cooked as ordered, sliced and presented as a tower atop a potato hash. The "hash" was seasoned cubed potatoes mixed in with green beans. All was on top of a light cassis based sauce. There were blueberries around the edge of the plate (in keeping with the berry cassis) and very thin slices of candied orange peel. As the sauce was not sweet, I wound up pairing a sliver of orange peel with each piece of tender duck. My husband had their steak frites special. The small steak was flavorful, cooked also as ordered, with a peppercorn sauce on the side that gave it a bit of personality. It came with a basket of crispy hand cut steak fries. For dessert, we shared their apple tart with vanilla ice cream. We asked for the ice cream to be served on the side -- it is usually served on top of the warm tart. It was a nice surprise to have a birthday candle in the ice cream! And she was nice enough to take our "official" photo -- which we do every year. The tart was an airy puffy base topped with thick sliced apples, cinnamon, and powdered sugar. The vanilla ice cream was a rich pairing. We celebrated our 10-year anniversary at Le Bistro and were so happy with our choice. The food was so flavorful and well presented. Best French Onion soup we've ever had! Our service was impeccable. We never had to ask for anything as the server predicted almost everything we needed. The restaurant is a small, quant place perfect for a date night out. The owner visited us at the end with homemade chocolates and a complimentary glass of celebratory champagne. Highly recommend. 12/10 Will be back again. read more

What a great place! Came to dinner here with my husband and my 19 month old. We loved it!! We loved the ambiance, the jazz music, the lighting and the feel of the restaurant. It's the type of place you can really enjoy a glass of wine and feel super cozy in. It's very intimate and overall had a great vibe. The food was also amazing! After we had already ate the meal, the waiter came out and said oh hey, by the way you know the crab cakes aren't gluten free? 4. Admittedly I was heated, and used a coupe choice words because I was worried about my girl friends health. 5. The owner ended up calling me a fuck boy, and that I should go fuck my self. This owner is a perfect example of the Napoleon complex. He is living off the glory days of Gordon Ramsay having to come save his restaurant. Apparently after Ramsey left, this guy went back to his old ways. NEVER COME Here. Update******** Owner has not apologized. Said that we scammed them. Look them up online. I think this place is actually more 3 1/2 stars but I rounded up since that is not an option and with just a few small changes they would be 4 to 4+ for me. We had dinner here last week with my son and his girlfriend. The place is tiny but charming and the service was performed by some very nice women and was very good and generally our meals were good. The mushroom soup is delicious, The beef Wellington was amazing, the rack of lamb was cooked to perfection but I was a bit disappointed in my filet with peppercorn sauce. It was too salty and the steak was literally swimming in sauce which should be an accompaniment not the main show of a steak dish. It wasn't terrible just wasn't great and I didn't finish it. The profiteroles were super good -light and fluffy and just wonderful, but I was disappointed that the English trifle has chocolate in it when it only lists on the menu brioche, custard, chantilly creme and berries. I would not have ordered it had I known it had chocolate in it as that overwhelmed the very delicate flavors of the crème and berries and really it felt just like a chocolate trifle. I think the bread they serve is not good, I hate to say this because I believe they bake "in house" but a nice crisp/tough French baguette would be better. Last but not least I would love to see a nice white table linen on the tables, it would class this place up and would make the space look amazing especially with the nice artwork and adorable wicker chairs. It would really take it to the next level and would match the "bistro" name and style. It felt a bit odd eating a $500 dinner on the table that had seen better days. I have lived in France, and this is no French restaurant. The ambiance is lacking, a small space, like an old living room, poorly decorated and lit, creaky and uninviting. The mussels appetizer left much to be desired--while the mussels were plump, they were prepared in a flavorless, milky-colored water--no garlic, no butter, no cream flavor. When we mentioned our disappointment to a passing server, she seemed disbelieving rather than caring. It was not worth ordering the $6, 8", dense baguette for dipping in the sauce. The $9 side salad was serviceable. The fish dinner, market price $50, was well prepared, but tiny. True French proportions, ha! but not prices! We ordered profiteroles for dessert. These were fine, but for the price, one would expect more than just two. They did have lovely French wine, $17 a glass for the Chenin Blanc. We had 3 glasses total. Dinner for two, sharing just one entree, was $177. We felt it was overpriced for what we got. Don't recommend at all! read more

The restaurant was locked but after knocking, a woman came to open the door. She was not friendly. We chose a good table in the front. At first, we were given only a la carte menus. I was taken aback by the price and was given a much more reasonable dinner menu. The server, who turned out to be part owner, continued to be very cold. throughout the meal. No smile no inquiry about us or information about the food. We were made to feel unwelcomed. The food and wine were great! We met the owners of this restaurant while we were sitting at a new French Bakery (Pascale and Cathy's) and decided we needed to make our way there for a French style feast. As it turns out, the friends we accompanied to Le Bistro had eaten there many times and were full of praise. It's a neat little place, typically Covid is blamed for the lack of damask tablecloths and fabric serviettes...we look forward to the day when this is no longer the case. Ellen and Andy are the owners and have been for two decades. The service was warm and friendly, the menu was varied and the food was of the highest quality. Between the appetizer and main course, we were served a small palate cleanser and on we went from there. We had a variety of foods including lamb, beef and fish...and the vegetarian offerings were as good as any. We ended the evening with coffee, creme brulee and a chat with the owners. An incredible experience to say the least- at the door, we were immediately greeted by Elin. As the face of the restaurant, she held a kind & attentive persona as she led us to our table. Once seated, we soaked up the ambiance. It gave a homey feeling- every piece of furniture & art flowed nicely throughout. The best way to describe the feeling you get here is almost like visiting mom's house after being away for college- familiar & warm. It was also remarkably clean from top to bottom; every corner & crevice. The menu was perfectly crafted: simple & thoughtful. I struggled to make a decision on which entree to choose from; all so enticing. Finally, I chose the duck and my boyfriend, the beef Wellington. Of course not before indulging in the incredibly DELICIOUS crab cake with remoulade and French onion soup to start us off. We were over the top impressed with how Chef Anthony was able to execute a rare Wellington as the puff pastry was baked to perfection. The service itself was impeccable. Elin guided us through the wine menu and helped us pick out the perfect Cabernet. Our waitress presented each dish with such excitement and pride as if she was seeing it for the first time with us. We were given complimentary palette cleaners which were made using Chef Anthony's mangoes straight from his garden/tree. Our glasses were never once empty & everything we needed was brought promptly & with care. We had the pleasure of speaking to both Elin & Anthony at the end of the night- thanks to my boyfriend being one of the few to consume an entire Beef Wellington entree for 2. It is evident that these two make an incredible team and put so much care and love into their establishment. They are a true example of what it looks like to do what you love. What an amazing Valentines Day dinner. My husband and I finally visited on the night of love. Even though it was a pre-fixe menu, the options were tasteful and diverse. We got a glass of wine each as a bottle may have been too much on a work night haha. The house made bread and herbed butter, Out of this world! For our appetizer we settled on the seafood platter for two which included ahi seared tuna, jumbo cocktail shrimp and a Scottish salmon roulade. All very fresh, good and tasty. Next we got the beef Wellington for two and it our first time having this dish although I know what it is and how it's prepared, I've never had it. It was outstanding, I don't have another preparation to compare it to but this was very tender, melt in your mouth, the pastry was crisp and the mushroom duxelle wasn't finely chopped but it was earthy and tasty with the mustard. Finally a dessert platter with cheese and fruit along with a chocolate mousse and a crème brûlée. Just perfect. At the end of it dinner we were blessed with a chat from the chef Andy and found out that he does it all by himself. No sous chef no help. And that made the experience even more lasting. Words can only do so much justice and a laundry list of menu items doesn't really convey the quality here - suffice to say that the crusts of the homemade bread pair well with the exquisite escargot, the lamb meatballs are ridiculously good, you'll easily find a reasonably priced nice wine to pair with your meal, and you just can't go wrong with most anything that comes out of Andy's kitchen. A step by step process with each dish. Second: The service is top tier. Tables are closely tended to. Regular check ups to make sure you have everything you need. Third: Hands down the best Beef Wellington I've ever had. The chef has the expertise to cook it on the rare side (if you'd like) which in and of itself is a culinary feat. We were celebrating a few things and I called to ask some questions and made a reservation for Wednesday. We drove up and stayed at a local hotel to enjoy the evening. Upon arrival we were greeted by the owners and shared a glass of bubbly at the bar before we were seated. The owners are as amazing as the food. The prefix menu started with delicious bread with herbed butter. Then a trio of appetizer bites that was perfect for sharing and weren't too heavy. Then we chose one salad and one soup for the next course. The salad was fresh and crisp, love that the dressing came on the side. The onion soup they had that night is the best I've ever had. Check the pic- you'll go just for the soup! Then after a palate cleanser came the pièce de résistance- the Beef Wellington. Just wow. So beautiful I could hardly cut into it. The best! Perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection. You cannot go wrong with anything here at Le Bistro. The owners gave us a glass to break for our wedding the following day which was super sweet. First of all, forget the ten-year-old episode of Kitchen Nightmares that this place appeared on ages ago. Gordon Ramsay is an abusive jerk and anyone who appreciates or emulates his style here on Yelp isn't exactly someone whose opinions you should listen to when it comes to fine dining. Le Bistro has been around for 18 years. It's serving cuisine that is essentially endangered not just in South Florida but most parts of the country -- traditional, French classics. Few modern chefs have actually been trained in it in culinary school let alone having staged with a Michelin-starred restaurant, which chef and owner Andy Trousdale has, at the Waterside Inn in Bray, England, under the tutelage of master patissier and chef Michel Roux. The restaurant is small -- only 36 seats in the tiny, intimate dining room and 8 at the bar, and is showing its age. That should not deter you from eating here, it's an ideal location for a quiet, romantic meal for a couple or important group of friends. Le Bistro features both a la carte as well as a prix fixe menu ($40, an excellent 3-course value) and an extensive list of wines by the glass (most $12 and under) and bottles featured from France, the US, and Italy. Started off with a French Pinot Noir ($9) which was a great value. The tiny restaurant has very low-pressure, relaxed service, as it should be of a restaurant of this type and caliber. It's not a hustle-bustle kind of place, so decompress, enjoy the experience and spend quality time here. They are not here to rush you through this. The menu is for the most part composed of technique-oriented French and British classics that have been slightly updated for modern palates. My wife and I decided to do one Prixe Fix and supplanted it with extra appetizers because we are both bariatric patients. We wanted to get the Beef Wellington (which by all accounts is amazing) but it's a two portion minimum ($44 person) and if we got that we wouldn't be able to try all the other wonderful things on the menu. It also takes 40 minutes -- he makes it from scratch, like everything else in this restaurant -- including the bread and the ice cream -- so be patient. We started with a porcini mushroom soup, which is extremely rich and has a lot of sherry and also chanterelle mushrooms in it. My wife and I were fighting over this, and it goes great with the little loaves of bread they serve at the table. The goat cheese with bee's pollen is both simple and extremely complex, as the pollen adds very strong floral notes that complement the creamy chevre. The cheese is served with endive leaves which add a characteristic bitterness to offset the sweetness of the pollen and the dressing. Very nice. My wife thought it might be a little too bitter but she is a supertaster, would have wanted it served over croutons -- but Elin was happy to bring croutons anyway. I ordered a Filet Mignon beef tartare which is an appetizer but is a very generous one. This is probably one of the best I have ever had and I've had a number of very good ones at restaurants in NYC which specialize in prime cuts of steak. The accompaniments to this were fantastic, including black garlic cloves which I believe are a Chinese addition. The raw egg was pristine as was the finely minced raw beef filet itself. Again the fresh bread and selection of crackers they gave us for this were a great pairing as was the reserve Bourdeaux wine by the glass I had with it ($15). My wife ordered the Duck Breast L'Orange which was extremely juicy and had the most wonderful sauce on top which clearly had duck stock in it. This was served on top of a potato and green bean hash which clearly is showing Andy's British heritage and pride. In the middle between courses, they served us a Granita/Intermezzo of cranberry and orange, this was great, could have easily ordered this for dessert especially paired with the wonderful fresh vanilla bean ice cream we had with what we chose for dessert, an Apple "Tart" made from granny smith apples over a buttered puff pastry base, Andy's take on Tarte Tatin De Pommes, which is something of a different animal as the original uses pate choux. In any case, the tart was amazing but the owners tried to kill us with more dessert. We also had sampling portions of the Creme Brulee which was prepared classicly with a nice burned sugar crust that cracked like shards of glass, and their Chocolate Mousse, which is more like a chocolate clotted cream (again showing off the chef's British heritage), rather than a traditional dark chocolate mousse. But it was all excellent and we practically had to roll out of there. Had a wonderful time. Can't wait to go back when they make the yearly menu changes. A word about parking: The restaurant keeps orange plastic cones in the spaces reserved for customers so other people do not take them. If you see the cone just remove it and put it on the sidewalk in front of the restaurant and park your car. read more
