First of all, forget the ten-year-old episode of Kitchen Nightmares that this place appeared on ages ago. Gordon Ramsay is an abusive jerk and anyone who appreciates or emulates his style here on Yelp isn't exactly someone whose opinions you should listen to when it comes to fine dining. Le Bistro has been around for 18 years. It's serving cuisine that is essentially endangered not just in South Florida but most parts of the country -- traditional, French classics. Few modern chefs have actually been trained in it in culinary school let alone having staged with a Michelin-starred restaurant, which chef and owner Andy Trousdale has, at the Waterside Inn in Bray, England, under the tutelage of master patissier and chef Michel Roux. The restaurant is small -- only 36 seats in the tiny, intimate dining room and 8 at the bar, and is showing its age. That should not deter you from eating here, it's an ideal location for a quiet, romantic meal for a couple or important group of friends. Le Bistro features both a la carte as well as a prix fixe menu ($40, an excellent 3-course value) and an extensive list of wines by the glass (most $12 and under) and bottles featured from France, the US, and Italy. Started off with a French Pinot Noir ($9) which was a great value. The tiny restaurant has very low-pressure, relaxed service, as it should be of a restaurant of this type and caliber. It's not a hustle-bustle kind of place, so decompress, enjoy the experience and spend quality time here. They are not here to rush you through this. The menu is for the most part composed of technique-oriented French and British classics that have been slightly updated for modern palates. My wife and I decided to do one Prixe Fix and supplanted it with extra appetizers because we are both bariatric patients. We wanted to get the Beef Wellington (which by all accounts is amazing) but it's a two portion minimum ($44 person) and if we got that we wouldn't be able to try all the other wonderful things on the menu. It also takes 40 minutes -- he makes it from scratch, like everything else in this restaurant -- including the bread and the ice cream -- so be patient. We started with a porcini mushroom soup, which is extremely rich and has a lot of sherry and also chanterelle mushrooms in it. My wife and I were fighting over this, and it goes great with the little loaves of bread they serve at the table. The goat cheese with bee's pollen is both simple and extremely complex, as the pollen adds very strong floral notes that complement the creamy chevre. The cheese is served with endive leaves which add a characteristic bitterness to offset the sweetness of the pollen and the dressing. Very nice. My wife thought it might be a little too bitter but she is a supertaster, would have wanted it served over croutons -- but Elin was happy to bring croutons anyway. I ordered a Filet Mignon beef tartare which is an appetizer but is a very generous one. This is probably one of the best I have ever had and I've had a number of very good ones at restaurants in NYC which specialize in prime cuts of steak. The accompaniments to this were fantastic, including black garlic cloves which I believe are a Chinese addition. The raw egg was pristine as was the finely minced raw beef filet itself. Again the fresh bread and selection of crackers they gave us for this were a great pairing as was the reserve Bourdeaux wine by the glass I had with it ($15). My wife ordered the Duck Breast L'Orange which was extremely juicy and had the most wonderful sauce on top which clearly had duck stock in it. This was served on top of a potato and green bean hash which clearly is showing Andy's British heritage and pride. In the middle between courses, they served us a Granita/Intermezzo of cranberry and orange, this was great, could have easily ordered this for dessert especially paired with the wonderful fresh vanilla bean ice cream we had with what we chose for dessert, an Apple "Tart" made from granny smith apples over a buttered puff pastry base, Andy's take on Tarte Tatin De Pommes, which is something of a different animal as the original uses pate choux. In any case, the tart was amazing but the owners tried to kill us with more dessert. We also had sampling portions of the Creme Brulee which was prepared classicly with a nice burned sugar crust that cracked like shards of glass, and their Chocolate Mousse, which is more like a chocolate clotted cream (again showing off the chef's British heritage), rather than a traditional dark chocolate mousse. But it was all excellent and we practically had to roll out of there. Had a wonderful time. Can't wait to go back when they make the yearly menu changes. A word about parking: The restaurant keeps orange plastic cones in the spaces reserved for customers so other people do not take them. If you see the cone just remove it and put it on the sidewalk in front of the restaurant and park your car. read more

My boyfriend and I love the show Kitchen Nightmares and he surprised me with a reservation to Le Bistro seeing how it's one of the restaurants still open 15 years later, and we were extremely satisfied with the experience. Everything from the ambiance of the restaurant, to the service and food, was incredible. The best duck breast and crème brûlée I've ever had! Nearly cried taking my last bites it was so good. My boyfriend got the lamb and wanted to gnaw the meat off the bone. Everything came out promptly. We told Elin we had to come in after seeing the episode and Andy was so kind and personable to come out and they both spoke with us after we finished our meals. They brokenheartedly shared with us that a customer had canceled her reservation at the last minute and even left a snarky review claiming a negative experience of the service and atmosphere after only making and canceling a reservation. Last month I was looking through the Dine Out Laurderdale list of restaurants. On the list was Le Bistro. Close to work, so I checked the menu. Everything on it sounded delicious. Not only that but they are one of the few to offer a wide variety of their actual menu during the Dine Out special. Decided to plan dinner with two friends. Weekday, after work. I made reservation for 6:30pm. Arrived early at 6pm. They have parking reserved for their customers, if full, you can use the valet. Restaurant I believe opens at 5pm for dinner, so when I got there it was empty. Immediately I was greeted and shown to our table. Water was served and the wine menu (only wine and beer served here) was brought to me. I saw they had a Sangria, so while I waited for my friends I ordered this. Made to order - not from a pitcher. It was smooth, refreshing, one of the best sangrias I've ever had. Once my friends arrived, we looked at the menu, asked for recommendations and proceeded to order. One thing I really appreciate is an honest staff. I went to order a plate and immediately his face showed I wasn't making the right decision. He recommended other options and so glad he did. Ended up having the NY steak and it was amazing! Flavorful, perfectly cooked, knife just went through it! Great job Chef, and server for recommending it. The red zinfandel sauce really enhanced this dish, it had plenty of mushrooms, which I love, and it also comes with little potatoes. We also had the Artisan bread board to start. The bread is warm and addictive. Comes with butter, olives, olive oil and pepper. This is something I would order each time I go there. Perfect size to share and delicious! As my appetizer I had the Escargot. Last time I had these (at another restaurant) they were so salty I had refrained from ordering again anywhere else. Glad I gave them a chance again. These were perfectly seasoned with garlic, not salty, and served with their delicious bread. After my Sangria was done, and to pair with my steak, I ordered wine by the glass. This time with full approval of our server saying it was a great choice for my meal, and it absolutely was. For dessert, I had the Chocolate Pot au Crème. Homemade whip cream, smooth, chocolaty... Can I have one more right now? During our whole time there, our server came around, making sure we were good with our order, making conversation, refilling our water glasses, even after we paid and waited for the rain to stop. Until November 3rd, Le Bistro offers a prix fix menu. Similar to Dine Out Ft Lauderdale menu for $ 39.99. Comes with a choice of appetizer, entree and dessert. I decided on the prix fix menu and am happy with the taste, and quality of the food. I went with the goat cheese, lamb chops and creme brulee. They also have an excellent red wine blend that went well with my meal. Very limited seating, maybe 8 tables inside and 2 outside. It wasn't packed tonight. We were 1 of 4 parties there. I was surprised. I hear that Le Bistro was on restaurant rescue. I have to look up and watch the episode. I can't imagine them needing help. Parking: free parking in the plaza. Celebrating a friend's birthday, Le Bistro was perfect for their request of french cuisine, in an intimate & cozy spot. This is family driven with Andy & Elin deftly running their restaurant since 2001 (congrats on the 20th anniversary!). Andy's approach here is classic French cuisine, slightly reinvented for modern times, however he is a master saucier which is everything in French cooking, complimented by Elin's service which is warm, knowledgeable & impeccable. Upon entry the aroma of fresh bread was inviting & hospitable. We started with traditional escargot & french onion soup, both crave-worthy & mouth-watering (sorry no pics). Entree's enjoyed: shrimp risotto (creamy & luscious), savory crab cake (with a bite of wasabi caviar & spicy remoulade), succulent roasted rack of lamb (flawlessly cooked in dijon/wine reduction over potato hash) and rich steak diane (pounded tenderloin in mushroom/sherry cream sauce). Though its name is Le Bistro and does have a rather dated, drab interior décor about it that would fit with a bistro, Le Bistro is in fact a full-fledged French restaurant with offerings that hit the mark of being pure culinary artistry. Indeed, it is one of the areas very best. Though its menu is on the small side in choices, it's more than complete enough no matter what you select, you can be assured it will be top notch good, expertly prepared and presented. Though I had intended to start with a foie gras, they had run out, so I switched over to their appetizer of "Bison & Filet Mignon Tartare" as combined with enhancements of with caper, Dijon sauce, organic egg yolk and housemade pickles, and in the process I learned something. Having had and made my own filet mignon tartare it always had a certain undesirable sogginess and fatty taste about it. But here, the chef, by combining the leaner bison with meat of the filet, completely eliminated that sogginess and fatty taste. So, I can say without any equivocation, it's the best tartare around. At this point, while pondering the menu for my main, I remembered to do my Yelp check-in, and what a pleasant surprise that was as up popped a Yelp/Le Bistro treat for a complimentary split bottle of champagne. So, fellow Yelpers, be sure to keep that in mind to enjoy dinning at Le Bistro along with knowing you are dinning in a Yelp friendly establishment. For my main I went for the Dover sole with fingerling potatoes and asparagus. When it arrived, it wasn't at all what I had expected. Instead of being the usual filets of sole, this was the whole skinned out body of the entire fish. Then, after presenting it to me, my well accomplished waitress proceeded to expertly debone it placing the deboned filets on my dinning plate along with, and what a delightful "lucky me" surprise, two very large hunks of dover roe. Couple with my complimentary champagne, it proved to be one my most memorable as well as delightful dining experiences. When finished eating all I could eat, the chef came out to inquire as to how I enjoyed my meal, and to our mutual shock, we already knew each other. As best we could remember, we had met years ago at the Culinary Institute on 17th Causeway where he had been an instructor and I had been there for an all Florida food only culinary scholarship fundraiser competition. So, just knowing that he had been an accomplished culinary institute instructor, clearly means he is chef that knows what being a good chef is all about. Not being able to consume my huge portion of Dover sole, my waitress kindly boxed and bagged the same for take home. When I opened the bag the next day, to my delight she had included a generous apple cake/bread as a make-up gesture for having forgotten to serve me any dipping oil with my bread the previous night. My boyfriend and I came here for a date night before are baby's arrival next week. I was craving a beef Wellington and was recommended to come here through some friends. What a amazing choice and I'm so thankful we gave the Restraunt a try. We started with the truffle potato appetizer then my boyfriend had the tuna appetizer . They both were delish. Beef Wellington was our entree and was on fire ! Then final was their dessert of the chocolate tort and creme brulee... absolutely amazing including the service. Please give this place a shot especially the fact that it's a mom and pop restaurant and they deserve all the praise especially during these Covid times ... which they also were super safe wearing masks and keeping every one distant from one another . AN AMAZING DINNER! My wife and I were looking for a place in South Florida to have our traditional holiday dinner, when we stumbled upon Le bistro on the internet. I called and made reservation with Elin (she could not have been more inviting on the phone). When our party of 4 arrived, Elin greeted us at the door with a warm and friendly greeting. She introduced herself to all of us before showing us to our table. Our table was set an ready to go. The atmosphere was charming. Ray was our server and was a true professional (Smart, Fast, & Friendly). Ray was assisted by Alex, it was only her second night, but you would have never known it. The service was PERFECT!!! Now for the food... We had an all inclusive, traditional, holiday dinner with all of the trimmings. We are still talking about how wonderful all the food was prepared.... so much flavor, the recipes and the presentations were truly amazing. After dinner, Elin asked me if I wanted to go back to the kitchen to meet Owner/Chef (her husband) Andy, I did and was very surprised. He was on the food line and still found the time to meet a new customer, now that was impressive. Elin walked us to the door when we left. Escargot, beet salad, and cauliflower. The mains selection that we chose was underwhelming. She said the pasta was pappardelle, a flat, wide noodle. What we got was like an angel hair. Completely flavorless sauce. Mild. Shrimp was good size, but the overall execution not the best. This place is known for the meat dishes moreso than seafood; but we were really in a seafood mood. Went there years ago....food was fair. I recently made a second visit.....it was seriously terrible, food was cold and tasteless. The mushroom soup and mushroom sauce are one of the same. In other words if your order filet mignon or a fish dish they pour soup on it, nothing more which taste like Campbell Soup. There are many other better French restaurants.....save your money go elsewhere. The owner on top of that is rude and sarcastic. read more

The food, service, and ambiance was amazing. For appetizers we had the crab cake, beets with goat cheese, and the delicious cauliflower steak. My husband never loves veggies but he was chowing down the cauliflower. The presentation and flavors were on point, everything perfectly cooked- the texture and flavors complimented each other so well. For entrees we had the surf & turf, steak and fries, lamb chops, and seafood bouillabaisse. Again compliments to the chef! Everything was exquisite, we couldn't ask for anything more. And it wouldn't be a celebration without dessert, we had crème brûlée, profiteroles, and the apple tart with ice cream. Had a great pre valentines dinner at this lovely restaurant on Friday. Everything was great, the waitress and the host were both accommodating and polite and the food was fantastic. I loved how intimate and dimly lit it was it felt like we stepped out of S. Fl and entered a french diner. The food presentation was top notch as well as the music and ambiance. No complaints except for the parking. Its located in a small lot and there is a pretty rowdy bar in the same plaza that takes up a lot of the spaces. So I recommend to arrive at least 30 minutes before your reservation to ensure you are on time. Nonetheless I had a wonderful dinner and will definitely return again. Every single dish was well planned, thought out and had with a verve that moved me to write a review which I never do. I actually felt happy after eating the Baby Gem, Fennel, Mandarin orange salad! The Crab Cake my wife had was Maryland fresh perfect. Rack of Lamb was also fresh simple and well prepared. I have lived across the street from Le Bistro for almost six years, and it has been one of those places we say to each other that we must try that sometime! Well today is Mothers Day and my husband decided it would fun to try somewhere new to celebrate! . It was wonderful. As we walked in to this small charming restaurant we were made to feel at home immediately, greeted by one of the co owners Elin with a warm smile and were shown right away to our table in a lovely intimate setting. The appetizers arrived promptly and were delicious and very fresh tasting (mussels and salad). Feeling optimistic we eagerly awaited our entrees. Both ordered filet (one steak Diane and one Steak Au Poivre! They were both perfectly cooked and tasted fantastic. Unfortunately we had the experience of being seated next to a incredibly obnoxious family who were without doubt the rudest most ungrateful family I have ever had the displeasure to come across. Their waitress Natalie was incredibly patient and polite with these awful people and eventually the owner Andy came over to their table to see if there was anything he could do to help. The rudeness escalated and nothing was good enough for them - and the mother kept breastfeeding (I am not against mothers breast feeding their babies in restaurants - this was not that) her three year old son whilst insulting any person who came to their table! Back to our experience after our entrees we both ordered the crème brûlée which was fabulous. Kudos to Elon and Natalie for their wonderful service and incredible patience with the neighboring table. I write a lot of reviews (obviously) and sometimes I keep my notes and write reviews weeks or sometimes even months later. But sometimes, I am thrown off guard and impressed, and that doesn't happen often. When that does happen, I can't wait to write my review. So here I am, the morning after my first dining experience at Le Bistro and I can't wait to tell you about my experience. We ordered off of the "Dine Out Lauderdale" menu, which provided us with a fabulous three course dinner for just $36.00. We had a choice of an appetizer, entrée and a dessert. Of course I reviewed the menu a million times before our actual dinner and I had a strong idea of what I was going to order. I have only had octopus a few times and it was always in a Greek restaurant. So, I am not really an expert. I knew I liked it, so for my appetizer I ordered the grilled baby octopus. There was a five dollar up charge for this appetizer and I feel it was worth it. In my opinion the octopus was very chewy. Maybe this is normal, but at the Greek restaurant it is soft and tender, not chewy at all. Even though I wasn't crazy about the actual octopus, I have to say this dish was amazing. Butter Beans, fresh garlic and andouille sausage were the base for the slices of octopus. The andouille had a spicy kick to it and partnered with the Butter Beans and garlic, it worked. And it was a delicious appetizer, but the appetizer I would order next time would be the Escargot. I tasted Escargot for the first time last night (thank you Greshka) and I absolutely loved the garlic pesto butter sauce and I will go back just for this dish. How did I get to my age and have never tasted escargot? It's not like I live a sheltered life or anything. For my entrée I ordered the NY Strip Pizzaiola. Traditionally served in Italian restaurants, this dish has always been a favorite of mine. The Red Zinfandel based sauce had plenty of mushrooms, tomatoes, garlic and onions, along with Fingerling Potatoes. The steak was unbelievably soft and it just blew me away. If I wasn't in a public place, I would have used my finger to wipe my plate clean of the sauce. It was incredible and I was super impressed. It was a large serving and I had a small amount to take home with me. The sauce really put this dish over the top. So good. I forgot to mention we started out with the Bread Board for the table. The loaf of Artesian bread was paired with delicious olives, dipping oil and something else that I can't remember. I do remember that the bread and olives were yummy. And for someone like me who barely drinks, I would like to say that the Sangria was so good too. For my dessert I decided on the Lemon Cheesecake. Wow, the presentation was fabulous. Served in a tall glass, it was a small piece of lemony goodness that had a Grand Marnier sauce drizzled throughout it. It was topped off with candied lemon rinds and two petite lemon cookies. Incredible dessert and it was light and unique, unlike any other cheesecake I have had. Their website describes the ambiance as casual but elegant and I will have to agree with their description. However, I also found this charming restaurant to be very intimate and cozy, almost with a rustic homey feel. And the music!!! Who can complain about Frankie Valli and Frank Sinatra? Our server, who was excellent, told us it was "easy listening ". I don't know, play some Frankie Valli, give me amazing food and a glass or two of Sangria and I'm a happy lady. Totally, without a doubt, one of my new favorite restaurants. Perfect for a date night or a special dinner with friends. Since the restaurant is small and cozy, I strongly suggest reservations. Yelp has a check-in offer for 10% off of your bill. Since we participated in the Dine Out menu, we had a delicious dinner for an incredible price. I checked out the prices on the regular menu, and I didn't find them to be any higher than any other fine dining restaurant. My suggestion is to go have an incredible dinner and listen to some Frankie Valli and enjoy your dining experience. Hands down, one of my new favorites. read more

You cannot go wrong at Le Bistro. The food, ambiance and staff was wonderful. We started with the escargot and the beet bee which is their spin on a beet salad. Both were perfect. We decided on beef Wellington for our main course and Ellen suggested the perfect wine pairing. It was done to perfection. Creme brûlée was our dessert and again it was amazing. Absolutely Outstanding! My wife and I went last night and wound up having an ultra-memorable meal comprised of scallop ceviche, crabcake and escargot to start, followed by the ever-lauded Beef Wellington accompanied by a side of the truffle mashed potatoes. Everything was absolutely delicious, and it all paired well with a nice, light rose. What's not to like? What's not to love? Plus Elin's service was completely warm and friendly, while Andy emerged from the kitchen to find out who were " the crazy people ordering all of this food." Loved it! As a Lighthouse Point native, I am kicking myself for not having known about Le Bistro sooner. I have crazy food expectations, and there are almost no local restaurants that hold up to my standards. How did this revelation of an amazing French-European eatery come about? A family argument over Christmas dinner this year. After searching the internet for several hours, we were all able to agree on Le Bistro based on the location and reputation. I asked my parents "What is this place?" to which they replied "It's right down the street! You've seen it a million times!" They themselves had never ventured into there. My mother is not big on French cuisine in general, so I was shocked but happy that they agreed to try it out. Christmas dinner was incredible! Four courses for $35! You can't beat that with a stick! The beef wellington melted in my mouth. The gravlax was perfect. The salad, though simple, was so well balanced that I actually ate a salad that wasn't prepared at home for the first time in many years. The limoncello parfait was so delightful that we had to order a second one so I could quit fighting everyone's fork for competition on my plate. The cheese sampler was simply orgasmic. My favorite part about our dining experience was the feeling of perfect gastronomical satisfaction when we left. I was pleasantly full, but not sickeningly stuffed. This is how real, excellent French food should be. This is why they say 'French people don't get fat'. You have the perfect amounts of rich, flavorful food without too much to gorge yourself. Imagine - a Christmas dinner that didn't leave everyone feeling like they needed a winter nap and a treadmill afterward. My only disappointment is that I will be gone for New Years and I won't be able to spend it there. I see they have potato gnocchi on the special menu, which is one of my favorite dishes in the world and yet I will be missing it. I think they are serving it just to torture me :) read more

My wife and I went to Le Bistro along with two other couples for a nice Valentine's dinner. I had never been to Le Bistro before but the restaurant came highly recommended. So I drove an hour from Miami Beach for a special night out with my wife and friends. The atmosphere was delightful, perfect for a romantic dinner. We chose the 5 course Valentine's dinner and each course was spectacular. Besides the prime rib, my favorite was the asparagus with Bearnaise sauce. My prime rib was perfectly cooked at the requester medium rare, had a light Au Jus, the asparagus was perfectly cooked and the Bearnaise complimented the asparagus. Dessert consisted of creme brulee for myself, chocolate mousse for my wife and mixed desserts for the table. Again, I was impressed. If I could have gotten away with it when no one was looking, I swear I would have licked the fancy bowl the creme brulee came in. The chef/owner came out to greet us after the dinner and it was the icing on the cake for the evening. It was a very busy night for Le Bistro and we managed to have a nice relaxing evening with friends, great conversation lots of laughs and all without feeling rushed. Le Bistro - A great Valentine's night out at Le Bistro with friends.... - French Near Me - Lighthouse Point, Florida

Tried to make this restaurant work again as we live in the area but still a NOT!!! First on a Sat nite it was about 75% full yet they put us at a table near entrance to kitchen Ever time a server went by they bumped into my chair and asked me to "move in"!! The apps the 4 of ordered were very good - beet salad escargots, goat cheese The entrees really missed: - I asked for my lamb rare it came medium - they subbed snapper for salmon (why no salmon?) and it too was over cooked / dry - the duck missed. Lacked a decent sauce So it looks like it will be long while for a return visit!! Did get a reply from owner - that is fine I did not ask to be moved. The staff should have been more cognizant if my chair was in the path of the kitchen instead of keep asking me to "move in" And YES I should have sent my meal and my guests meal back. Then what two people served and two others left waiting. How hard is it to cook rare?? Sorry for the negative but honest review read more
