It seemed that the staff had it under control, unfortunately it turned out they didn't care at all. The only thing they cared was the big tip they were hoping for from this group that was getting drunker and louder every minute. When we politely showed the guys to lower their voices, they told us to fuck off. When we informed the waiter, he looked at us and said "well, I didn't see that". For the last dinner in Paris we enjoyed Le Basilic. I recommend reservations, I just so happen to call and book on a Wednesday night and they were swamped. The overall service exceeded my expectations with a welcoming feel. From the phone call to the leaving the restuarant the entire staff was great! For the most important part of the evening; the food. I started with frayed endives which was great, it has the same consistency as cabbage. The salad has light with a different but good taste compared to romaine or iceberg lettuce. I specifically enjoyed the the combination of the roquefort cheese and the walnuts. I went in for the game of the entrees by choosing the rabbit. Which had a delicious non gamey taste to it. Served over a tasteful tagilatelle pasta to complete the dish. Lastly I enjoyed the French style bread pudding, one I hadn't tried before. We ate here twice in the 4 days we had in Paris! Le Basilic is a quaint restaurant that sits on the corner of a classic Montmartre street in Paris. The front of the building is like something out of a romantic book set on the street of Paris. The ambience/atmosphere is definitely a 5/5. We were greeted by the beautiful Sema, their friendly hostess, who cheerily made both of our evenings there delightful. She was happy to explain the menu and help us with our wine selection. She also worked hard to make sure we ordered the best things the kitchen had to offer. (She made honest recommendations after paying close attention to our preferences.) Oh, and she spoke fluent English... in response to my not-so-fluent French, which was a relief. Thank you, Sema! French onion soup - excellent. I enjoyed every drop. Escargot - best we've ever had. Foie gras - the reason we went back Fish - We had both selections. They were perfectly cooked, wonderfully fresh and delicately seasoned. My brother highly recommends the perch. I highly recommend the sole. Steak - there is one topped with foie gras that my father loved (and had a second time). There is another selection that I thoroughly enjoyed. We recommend both. Oh! And, you would think potatoes are just a side, but I loved the potatoes. I ate every single one (very rare for me). The food was excellent, and the service and atmosphere made it a delightful experience. If you are headed to Sacre Coeur to watch the sun set over Paris (which we also highly recommend), we definitely recommend stopping for a delightful meal at this place. read more

Basilic was recommended by our home exchange partner as one of her favorite restaurants in the Pigalle/Montmartre area and she was right as usual. Food and service were both top notch and a reminder that just like anywhere, it's good to get recommendations from the locals about where to eat. Basilic typifies what is so enjoyable about dining out at good Parisian restaurants. It was here that I came to appreciate the French model of restaurant service: each waiter feels responsible for everyone dining in the restaurant, and the two gentlemen working both the inside and outside tables on the evening of our visit were A+! There had to have been about 50 customers at the restaurant and our waiter took our three dinner orders and for the bottle of wine without writing anything down. Water was replenished and offerings for dessert and coffee were perfectly timed without any inordinate waiting. And I've no doubt everyone present was as well taken care of as we were. Any request we had could be made to either waiter, who fulfilled our requests with alacrity--the perfect word to characterize French restaurant service. Our food was also excellent and I especially the enjoyed the side of potatoes dauphinois, a creamy potato gratin that was yet another revelation that the French revere their pommes de terre. With its dark wood and rustic feel, Basilic wins on ambience too and drives home how a crowded restaurant with tables on top of one another forces patrons to speak in softer tones while looking at their dinner partners so one doesn't feel that the next table is at all encroaching. Definitely a restaurant I will return to on any future trip to Paris, I assure you. I doubt there's better French food for the money in the area. There may be comparable restaurants, but this was great. We Yelped a bunch of different restaurants and spent awhile trying to find something on Yelp via borrowed WiFi (which is terrible in France). I've had better French food, but usually paid through the nose for it. This was great. I've never liked French Onion soup in America....this was out of this world. An excellent three course meal for 25€? Yes please! Excellent decor, white tablecloths, and friendly service. Our waitress spoke no English and we were still able to order everything including bottle of wine and sparkling water with no problem. The salad, entree, and dessert all came out timed perfectly. Their plating skills were top notch and made the food even more appetizing. Each bite was luscious and the quality for the price cannot be beat. They open at 7:30 p.m. most days and stay open until 10:30 p.m. We were able to score a table without a reservation, but i'd recommend making one during the busy season. read more

Easily one of the best restaurants I have been to in Paris. It is in Montmartre where Rue Lepic comes to a fork. Great food (especially the provencal style dishes), cozy and cute interior, friendly server. We did not need reservations; maybe we were lucky. The place is very cute and small. It is mostly wooden inside. Tables are somewhat close to each other. So much so that to be seated or to get out, the waiter needs to literally move out the table, if you happen to sit on the wooden bench. Some may find it odd and uncomfortable to sit close to strangers; I thought it was cute and natural given the restaurant's ambiance. I especially liked the provencal style eggplant and the swordfish. Both had excellent sauces. Salmon with dill was very good and so was our salad. Trou Normand is a dessert that is a must try; very unique, but not necessarily the sweetest. The wines we had were also very good. Our waiter was friendly. His English was very good. He was the only server in the entire restaurant, but was still on time for everything. Of course, "on time" by French standards, which everyone should adapt to if they were to enjoy everything in France. Expect to be there at least 2 hours if you are lucky, for a full three-course meal, and likely longer. We closed down the place twice. Basically, go there with a relaxed attitude, order provencal style dishes, try the Trou Normand, breathe in the cuteness and romance, and enjoy the experience of your company. read more

We were so pumped to eat here when we saw the menu - but it was a disaster. I got the duck and my mum had the roasted chicken. Both were way overcooked and hard to chew. We both gave up half-way through the meal. The mushrooms were very tasty though. The tagliatelle side was the best part of the meal. We were absolutely bored while waiting for the bill, so we fed some pigeons the leftovers of our bread. The pigeons didn't even want it. That's a bad sign, people. The staff were friendly and amiable, but they brought the wrong bill to the couple seated next to us - there were only 4 active tables, and that seems a little silly to me. We were very early to the Moulin Rouge show and decided to Yelp a restaurant. We found this gem three blocks up from the show. I know it's love easy to just walk across the street to the bars by the moulin rouge but you won't regret it walking to this place. It had romance, great music, excellent customer service and the food was delicious. My husband and I were greeted and sat right away. The food was cooked to perfection and they were so patient while we looked at the menu. I would definitely come again and visit this place. Simply wonderful. As noted repeatedly in other reviews, the staff is engaging, friendly, and helpful; the food delicious and well priced; and the ambiance great. Can't ignore the value: for 47 euros, you the set menu of aperitif, appetizer, main course, and desert, (all full portion) separately which would run you 80 euros. For a novice to France, this is a good introduction to French food at great value. Located on a bend of the road on Rue Lepic, the restaurant is a pleasant stroll from other cafes and squares of Montmartre and down the hill from the Basilica itself, so if you're making an afternoon/evening in this part of Paris, make Le Basilic the centerpiece. read more

Close to moulin rouge and with top reviews, we made reservations online before the theatre. The restaurant is very beautiful both inside and out. Here we received some of the best service put of our entire stay. Our waitress was personable, funny and made us feel welcome. Our food was very good. I had the escargot as an appetizer which was already sh3lled and served in a delightful cream sauce that I couldn't get enough of. For entree I had the macaroni dish which was very nice. Finally I ended with the bread pudding which was like a French toast. Perfectly toasted. Overall great experience. Recommend reservations, there was a line out the door by the time we left. We went here this evening, we found it on Yelp! It was SO DELICIOUS. The service was literally the service my husband and I have had so far in Paris and the food was definitely the best we've had so far as well. I had the ravioli course, with the appetizer and dessert (great deal) and he had the fillet with the potatoes au gratin. The staff was the nicest we've experienced so far. They had a sense of humor which was nice and they didn't seem too troubled to try and speak a little English with us which was refreshing. We're trying to speak a little French, but we don't speak it quite yet, so it was really nice to be treated well even though we can't speak French! Came here based on the fact our travel guide said he always wanted to come here, but hasn't had the chance to do so. It was about a 5 minute walk from our hotel and probably about 10 minute walk from the metro (Place de Clichy stop). Small place inside, and a little too warm, despite they had fans. But it's also Europe, and I still hadn't gotten used to not having much air conditioning around. Anyway, they had 2 prix fixe menus to choose from, so we went with the $47 euro option (which included 1 drink from a list, appetizer, entree, and dessert). We each had champagne for a drink, and for appetizer I had the onion soup and my husband had the escargot. He absolutely loved it (I was not daring enough to try). The onion soup was absolutely amazing. Rather than the traditional french onion soup in the US, where the bread sits on the soup and cheese melted, they had a slice of bread with the cheese melted on top on the side, and in the bowl, the cheese was sitting in the bottom of the bowl, so when you placed your spoon in, there would be a nice mix of onion, broth & cheese on the way up. It was so good that my husband was dipping the bread in the broth as we ate. For entrees, I had the duck (requested medium) and he had the veal. Unfortunately, both meats were a bit overcooked to either of our liking, but the seasoning, sauce and sides that came along with both were excellent. Due to the overcooked meat, that is why I am not giving this review 5 stars. However, for dessert, I had the cherry crumble and he had the creme brulee, which were both excellent. The crumbles were very crunchy and cherries were very sweet. Definitely a great end to a great meal. And considering the price was just over $100 USD for the meal, it was well worth it. read more

What a great find!! Our tour guide recommended this restaurant and we sure were happy she did. The location of this restaurant was in the really awesome area of Montmartre, which is the artsy area of Paris. So you can imagine all the cool bars and restaurants that you can find here. Le Basilic was beautiful inside and out and the service was superb. Our waitress could not have been nicer and the food was excellent. My husband and son had the rib eye steak and I had the veal, both were really tasty and the side dishes were as well. I had the cheesy potatoes and it was so good. I'm surprised by all the positive reviews. Because this restaurant is in the middle of a dangerously touristy area, I guess I shouldn't have been so surprised by my disappointment. I went on a Sunday evening, the waiter we had was very stiff and unfriendly -- maybe it just wasn't his night. My friend and I each got the formule dîner -- 37 euros for three courses. I had the goat cheese salad. Underwhelming. Then I got the duck parmentier. Drowned in salt. And I finished with the chocolate mousse -- it was good (relieved to have ended on a good note). When we were seated, we asked for flat water and our waiter promptly brought us a bottle of Evian -- lesson learned, gotta specify if you want tap. But I guess that's a typical move for a touristy restaurant. In short, glad I tried this place but I won't be recommending it to anyone. read more

My boyfriend and I are in Paris for a romantic holiday and we wanted a romantic dinner. We are staying in Montmartre and have passed this place every day and are mesmerized by the charming exterior. We decided to go in and it was the best decision. 5 courses for under 50 euros. For our aperitif we had champagne with black currant liqueur which made us feel so fancy and bubbly! For the first course we had foie gras and Camembert with honey. First time we had both and now we have a high standard! Second course was filet with potatoes gratin and ribeye with pommes frites. Desert was the creamiest creme brûlée and bread pain perdue, finished with two coffees. They even had a sommelier that helped us select the wine. It was perfect! read more
