    The tiny kitchen

Sea Urchin Linguine! With no expectations, we taxied to Lawrence. Our reservation had a few minutes, and as we strolled the neighborhood, it looked familiar. We've been on the same block several times. Huh? In three days, 70% of our vacation was spent on two blocks. Lawrence is tiny, seven two tops and a large bar. You can stick your nose into the kitchen. It's right there. Sea Urchin Linguine! We took two seats at the bar, and realized, although small, Lawrence is designed beautifully. It never feels snug, just cozy, enveloping you in a comforting blanket of graciousness and warmth. Lainie and Anna took special care of us, Lainie a well versed, gregarious sommelier, and Anna a purveyor of the love of food and hospitality. Sea Urchin Linguine! I started with the lobster with green asparagus, a wonderful palate cleanser. Our other appetizer was the zucchini blossoms with smoked chicken offal, which was scrumptious. For our entrees, we both ordered the SEA URCHIN LINGUINE. I fell in love and Lawrence provided a memory that will remain forever, like the pasta buttons at Metamorphosi in Rome, the cacio e pepe at Aimo e Nada in Milan, and the risotto at Vecchia Lanterna in Turin. My taste buds were delirious, and I was in a culinary hallucination. For desert, my spouse ordered the tarte tatin, with a soft fromage on top, and guanciale, a cured pork jowl. What sounds weird was out of this world delicious . I chose for my desert SEA URCHIN LINGUINE! I didn't want my love affair to end. La Dolce Vita. We loved everything about Lawrence, and I will miss it like a paramour from days past. The memories will remain.

Tuna belly, Bomba rice, garlic scapes and smoked herring roe

I had a very engaging meal at Lawrence recently. The small and comfortable dining room is rounded with soft textures of wood, glass and linen. Indirect light, as the evening fades, gives into caramel tones framed in black. I ordered à la carte. First came a colourful summary of late summer: pieces of golden cherry tomatoes and melon, hiding pieces of halibut crudo. The lovage oil was vibrant green, and the dash of heat on top contrasted nicely with the refreshing crunch of the melon. Then came a pretty little shell, presenting scallop, seaweed linguine topped with caviar, and a curious kidney-shaped pink thingy. I started with the latter. A little burst of sea flavour revealed an animal origin: scallop roe! I had never encountered that before! If the dishes had ever seemed dainty so far, it was about to change. Next came tuna belly two ways, sitting on a bed of Bomba rice. The crispy rice bits and smoky flavours gave impressions of bacon and Japan. Doubling in decadence was the next dish: cabbage and pork brain gratin, under a generous layer of truffle shavings. The translucently delicious cabbage only contributed to the richness of the delicate brain, tender and white under the candlelight. Nose to tail never fails! Next was a smoky corn soup, from which clams and chanterelles complemented each other in texture and taste. As the New York strip and anchovy toast landed in front of me, I realized that I probably over ordered. But how can you resist the glistening bone marrow as it is scooped onto golden crispy bread? The saltiness of the anchovies is all that is needed to spike each bite, and the fresh mint in the tender fava beans was wonderfully refreshing. Very English! My chin was as shiny as the plate by the time I was done... I confess that I still ordered a dessert. The blackberries and sheep milk frozen yogurt were refreshing, and herbal tones were brought in from the olive oil and liquor. Service was kind and attentive. It was really inspiring to see Chef Marc Cohen soloing the evening, and I hope to sample new dishes of his in future seasons.

Came here for brunch with some friends for the first time and wasn't disappointed. Surprisingly not too crowded on a saturday morning, even though we had to wait for a 4 people table. But if you're 2, seating is super quick. I did remove one star because the meals don't include mini breakfast potatoes and that's what makes a brunch for me. Also their hash browns are good but they aren't traditional. I ordered the egg and sausage sandwich and it was devine. I would absolutely recommend. Also the scones, they are so buttery!

Really cute and busy place in Mile End. Gréât ambiance, réal local neighbourhood vibe. Their menu consists of an assortment of small plates of vegetables, fish, meat. Love this because I really enjoy sharing small plates and having a bite of each! They have an extensive bar menu with lots of wine, cidre and cocktail choices, as well as coffee options.

Lamb tartare with mint and flatbread with olive and fennel

Great menu with tons of creative options. Not cheap but not crazy for the amazing quality you get I got lamb tartare with olive and fennel flatbread to start which was fantastic, along with a larger bbq lamb neck with broad beans in broth which was stellar. The desserts were a huge highlight as well, with tons of really interesting flavors, I tried all 4 they had on the menu.

First time to Mile End was looking for Sunday brunch. Every place was packed but liked Lawrence's menu. They were full, so we grabbed 3 seats at the bar. Friendly server behind the bar filled water glasses and took our order. The salmon and scrambled eggs were delish. I had the the sausage and egg roll which was very tasty. The sausage was not overpowering and blended nicely with the egg and other seasonings. Wife had the scone with was also fab. Soft and fluffy. Great service, good food, reasonable prices. Would definitely come back.

First time to explore brunch in mile end area. The store is not big so probably it would be better if you can reservation in advance. We started with scone with jam and cream...I have to say this is the best scone I've had in Montreal. It even beats the one in the afternoon tea. Besides, I ordered the delicious English breakfast. The only part I don't like is the sausage. It lack the tenderness for some reasons. My frd got the delivered liver with salads. You will like it if you don't mind eating liver. That's not my dish while my frd likes it. In one word, it is a good place for friends gathering.

Their infamous kedgeree- enjoyed every bite of it!

Though we were unable to make a reservation for 5 people (they only allow reservations for parties of 6 or more), the food was really worth the hassle. I love curry, so I ordered the kedgeree - it is a decent-portioned, richly flavoured curry rice with chunks of soft boiled egg, fish, and cherry tomatoes. This thoughtful combination worked like a charm. My friend who started off with their infamous scone swore it was the best she ever had. Others at my table ordered the French toast, and scrambled eggs with charred salmon. We all enjoyed our food, will definitely visit again!

We beat the rush and got seated close to opening time for brunch at Lawrence. We started with some delicious stuffed donuts (stuffed with vanilla cream, Nutella, and lemon curd). I had the ham, cheese, and fried egg on toast which was mouthwatering. The bread was so thick and the egg was cooked perfectly. I also tried my husband's scrapple, fried eggs, and bacon (which I really enjoyed, although he didn't).

I came to Lawrence for lunch towards the beginning of my trip & spent the remainder of it wanting to go back! The menu is pretty sparse & definitely focuses on quality of ingredients, especially since they have a butchery just down the street. We ended up ordering 2 types of tartare, raw oysters, and a pasta to round it out. Highlights: - Raw lamb tartare: we got this on the recommendation of our server & it was incredible! I feel like it's pretty rare to see raw lamb (as opposed to raw beef/seafood) but it really wasn't gamey at all and was incredibly fresh. - Blue cheese & mushroom bucatini pasta: you can definitely tell that they use fresh pasta b/c the texture was so nice! It was so chewy & absorbed so much of the delicious blue cheese flavor. There weren't too many mushrooms in it though. Decor inside is also super nice: kind of like a modernized diner. B/c it's springtime, there were some amazing spring bouquets of flowers inside! I'll definitely be back for brunch or dinner next time!

    English breakfast.

Came here for brunch on a cold morning. There was a bit of a wait but they have a texting service to let you know when your table is ready which is nice. We went and got some coffee up the street until our table was ready. The inside is nicely decorated. The tables are relatively close together which can be tight for large groups. The service was prompt and friendly. Their signature drinks are mixed well and very tasty. I ordered the English breakfast. It was delicious and is delivered as advertised. The food was cooked perfectly. One of my friends ordered the French toast and it looked delicious as well.

Chocolate cake (we took it to go)

Cute little brunch place on St Laurent. I had been here for drinks and dessert, but now I tried their brunch. My friend and I shared the egg, tuna and corn salsa plate as well as the egg and corn bread plate. Both tasted good, but nothing exceptional. Staff was very friendly and the decor was definitely Instagram worthy. However, what I look for is flavour in food!

Doughnuts - chocolate, lemon and custard

Location/Service Another recommended restaurant in Montreal. The restaurant is located on a corner lot - the name/sign is at the bottom, so you gotta look carefully. Parking is available on the street and around. Inside decor is very plain and simple, but gives off a very nice groove and ambiance - especially for lunch. Service is also nice, staff were friendly and quick with our orders. Food Came here for brunch, so ordered a few items to share. Appetizer - donuts! Chocolate, custard and lemon. Outside is fried and inside is soft filled with each individual flavor. I really liked the custard, lemon is sour as expected and chocolate is chocolate. This was a nice starter to open the palette. Mains - English breakfast - featuring a sausage, sunny side egg, beans, bacon and toast. Can't go wrong with this dish. Everything was done to the right level, very comforting - and I like the toast and potatoes on the side. Smoked salmon and scrambled eggs - eggs were nicely done, very fluffy, a little bit creamy to taste. Salmon was also great, complimenting well with the egg - and combining it together with a toast gives a really healthy and light meal to it. Buckwheat pancake - with cretons, fried eggs and apples. Apples were caramelized, giving off a very sweet savory flavor, substituting it well with butter/maple syrup. The pancake is different from the usual ones, not fluffy and soft cause of the buckwheat, but it's very light to taste and it mixed very well with the cretons, which was like a pork spread with onions and spices. Overall it was very nice place to come here for lunch, price wise is a little high for me - since the menu items does not seem too overly astonishing for me. But really liked the vibe and the environment.

The decor is very dark with a floor to ceiling center bar, large windows through out the dining room, and excessively loud hip hop music. The crudo starter was stellar. The texture difference with the crumble and delicate fish was out of the ordinary. My entree short ribs with peanut sauce fell short. The meat was extremely tender and juicy. The peanut sauce a blend of whole nuts and puree was a delicious pairing. But one of the four ribs was meatless and just the bone. The server explained the meat had simply fallen off the bone and was in the dish. But the meat was no where to be found in the dish. The one item that perplexed me was the server's uniform. Considering the swanky mid upscale atmosphere I couldn't determine why the female servers wore Hooters attire? The male servers were covered, t shirts and pants. But the females wearing baby tshirts and micro mini shorts. This mismatch of poor taste uniform compared to the overall theme of jellyfish could use immediate improvement. I failed to observe this type of server attire anywhere else dining in Montreal.
