Definitely a hole in the wall (sometimes the hole in the wall places serve the best food ‍) but apparently there's some history with this place/location. Got a half dozen glazed and iced donuts and a steak/egg/cheese sandwich. Donuts were pretty good but the sandwich was cooked with steakum like meat, so it was pretty thin and they only had white bread. I was pleased with the overall taste of everything. I would be back. As far as the hospitality, the lady at the register wasn't necessarily friendly but she wasn't rude either IMO. She said good morning and thanked me for my business but there wasn't any small talk which I was ok with. I had more conversation with the other two patrons in there, they both recommended the home fries which I will try on another visit. There's a very small lot in the back with a few spots on the side, just make sure you turn in as you approach and not after... it's a one way street so you can't easily turn around once you realize you've past it. read more

Okay so I am writing this review now that my memory has been jogged by attempting to eat a dunkin donut and throwing it away. This place has set the bar HIGHHHH. And when I say that I mean they can stand toe to toe with Blondies, and even fractured prune hands down. When i walked in this little hut I knew I was in for a treat, you can tell the love and attention that goes into a skill and business. by the appearance of the business, typically when restaurants are focused on expanding and multi locations the craft begins to decrease but this place is dedicated to keeping all the attention in the buttery, flaky, goodness that is these donuts. Typically I have to throw donuts away after a meeting but for this particular meeting I ordered 2 dozen. None were left to the point colleagues came up to me and said what kind of crack did you put on those donuts lol. There was not a one left but what I did receive were emails and visits to my office asking for the name. Now I cannot speak for their sliders or breakfast sandwiches. All I know is I could not smell any fried onions or meat on the grill or wafting in the air but I did witness piled high bacon in the kitchen. I have been dreaming of one of these donuts. I read a recommendation for Laurel Tavern while reading the reviews of another doughnut shop so I thought I would give them a try. I was disappointed to find they only have yeast doughnuts here, no cake style. Yeast doughnuts (think crispy cream) have little substance and are always covered in a glazed sugar that explodes everywhere when you try to eat them. The doughnuts here are better than anything served at the big chains, but not worth a special trip. I was pleased to see that they serve other food items, so I did pick up a breakfast sandwich (Bacon, Egg, and Cheese) as well. I understand they also serve min burgers (sliders). which is what the Laurel Tavern is really famous for. read more

I'm giving you a 2 because you don't communicate when you are closing early. I drove to go to this place and got there 15 min before closing time and to my surprised the lights were off... it was closed. They do not seems to have a website and they do not bother to leave a note saying they closed early. I suggest posting a note by the door or windows so people know that maybe you sold out and therefore had to close or make a Facebook page and post it there? I really wanted to be able to review their donuts... But alas, not possible. According to their website and physical location, they open at 6 AM on Saturdays. I needed donuts by 7 AM, so I stopped in there at 6:45. A full 45 minutes after they open. Their lights were on, as was the open sign. When I walked in, two ladies were talking behind the counter, and there were no donuts or any other food items in sight. I asked if I could place an order and they told me to come back in 30 minutes if I wanted them. To be honest, they actually seemed annoyed that they had to stop their conversation for me. And I'm not sure why 45 minutes after the store opening there wasn't food available. Dunkin', two stores down, saved the day. read more

The donuts were so soft and melt in your mouth. We both said they were the best donuts we ever had. I moved to this area and made it a priority to make it here! As others have stated, Laurel Tavern is a dive, hole in the wall place! However, it literally is a gem! I arrived on a Saturday afternoon! The place was completely empty excerpt the two lovely ladies preparing the food! I ordered 3 sliders without cheese and some donuts to go! The food was prepared in less than 10 minutes and given to me in a brown paper sack, and I was on my way home! Let me say, those mini burgers are pretty good! As advertised for sure by many of the previous reviews!! And those donuts are fresh and delicious! I chose a chocolate and glazed twist and a strawberry glazed! I work at an Auto body in Columbia and every week we get visits from a salesman named Jake who works at an Auto Parts store and he would bring us donuts from this bakery. He would rave about this place on how delicious their donuts are and that they sell out fast. I admit, their donuts were good. Really good. They're not so good to the point where each bite literally slaps you in the face, but they're good enough for me to drive there and pick some up rather than driving to other, closer donut joints for my cravings and don't get me wrong, there are better donut places in the surrounding counties, but I really like how this place is in terms of the location, interior and the overall quality of their foods. The bakery is really small like, 'the moment you walk in, that's it' kind of small and the size of the building itself is small. I don't know why but it reminds me of the gingerbread house... Don't ask why, it just does! When you go inside, it's clearly run down and old but that's where some of its charm is. I mean, if there's a bakery that's super clean then props to them, but you don't go to a bakery/donut place to expect cleanliness and top notch interior design. You go to enjoy some sweets! Out of all the donuts I got from there (see picture below), I have to say that the blueberry donut was my absolute favorite and that's surprising for me because I'm not a fan of the fruity type donuts. This blueberry donut was different though. It was crispy yet very light and it almost felt like it was melting in your mouth. The flavor wasn't punching your face but it was still good and even better if you're a fan of blueberry donuts. The rest of the donuts were great as well. The 2 women behind the counter were friendly and I was surprised that they are Korean. Why? Don't let the exterior fool you. If you are familiar with Krumpes donuts in western Md we'll you will enjoy the donuts here. These donuts taste like krumpes before they changed the ingredients. Laurel Tavern donuts have been on my list of places to try for quite a while. But with limited hours of operation and being located in the heavily traveled old town Laurel area I never seem to make it when they were open or feel up to the challenge of the traffic. Laurel Tavern donuts it apparently recently changed ownership. They are what Dunkin' Donuts was 15 years ago. Nothing remarkable in the way of flavors or innovation and but at least the donuts are about full sized. They do have both cake and yeast donuts. I am a cake donut man myself, which is probably why I prefer Dunkin' Donuts back when they still made full-size donuts. This cake donuts are more what I would call old-fashioned. And that's not a negative. Maybe I am just tilting at windmills, but I would still like to be dazzled someday by a neighborhood donut ship. read more
