We first stumbled upon Laughing Planet on a trip to Portland a few years ago. As we were sitting in the restaurant in the Pearl district we looked for other locations and saw that Reno was on the map! So far all of the locations we have been to are teeming with hipsters. I guess that means we might be also... Been to the Tahoe St. Location and wanted to check out the digs on the UNR spot. Happened to get a parking space right in front and walked right in. Quickly greeted by the girl behind the counter and was handed menus and took our order. We opted for the Paleo Bowl and a Chicken Burrito for lunch. Both were fresh, hot and flavorful. Also had a berry smoothie and some agua Fresca. Again really good and flavorful with accents for different berries and such. The overall vibe fits the campus lifestyle and if you are a student, the parking issue will be of little consequence walking from class or riding a bike. I enjoy seeing pieces of art and items I recognize from Deux Gros Nez. Takes me back to high school yammering on about meaningless stuff with friends until the wee hours of the night. They did a great job repurposing the building. The crowd is mainly college students looking for healthy options for grub. The restrooms and dining area seemed to be clean, but did not see any cleaning going on since you bus your own dishes. While we were here, it was reasonably quiet, but imagine it can get pretty loud inside. Both the dining areas and the patio are nice areas to sit and eat or work on your next project of global domination. read more

This has 'college crowd' written all over it. Laughing Planet is quirky, funky, and delicious, and you cannot help but walk out the door with a smile on your face after hanging out here for a bit. The food has a major emphasis on healthy eating. It is vegetable-heavy with lots of organic products, and as much house-made ingredients as they can muster. You can find sandwiches, wraps, bowls, platters, and other familiar serving options. But don't let the list of weird grains or veggies make you hesitate, as most everything here is very, very tasty. The Thai Bowl is a constant favorite of mine, with fried tofu over brown rice and delicious Thai cole slaw. You can also check out their rotating specials, such as today with their Lebanese Burrito loaded with spiced chicken, lentils, and yogurt sauce. As far as beverages go, they have some great house-made iced teas, and a selection of kombuchas, too. But for my money, I go with one of the various local beers they have on tap. And speaking of money, I do have to say the prices are pretty decent, though not exactly what you'd call a cheap lunch either, but you get really good quality for the price. This was the second location opened in Reno, and they did an amazing job fixing up this old house right across from campus. The seating arrangements are plentiful, and the entire building looks amazing, with cool decor, potted plants, and historic photos festooning the walls and tables. I love the upstairs lounge, but you also can't go wrong with their lovely outdoor patio. The entire place has a great energy to it, and you just feel at home when you plunk down at your seat. The service has also been very courteous and prompt, with orders coming up fairly quick even during lunch rushes. Parking is usually pretty easy, but can get a bit tricky during the semesters, so you are better just walking or biking over. I love that there is more food joints like this popping up in Reno, showing that this sort of grub doesn't have to be bland or joyless, but can be really tempting for even us carnivores to enjoy. read more

I would frequent this place prior to covid all the time. I love the Bollywood bowl and snickerdoodle cookie. I have not had Laughing Plant in months and last night decided to order the Bollywood. I was slightly disappointed that I asked for brown rice and got white, my broccoli was raw (usually it is steamed) and I paid $1.50 for a small slice of avocado. read more

After multiple disappointing visits, I try to avoid this location but I had no choice tonight as it was 15 minutes til closing and I was at the university. Good: accepted phone order 15 before closing, had one of my favorite soups available for purchase, smoothie turned out really nicely Bad: forgot to include utensils (except for the straw for the smoothie) causing us to run to the gas station for some, favorite BOWL of soup was only half full (not totally sure if this is how all to go soups are filled) and it tasted a little funky/: I will continue to avoid this location and go only in cases of emergency! read more

This location has been a staple for us in the last several years. Always consistent, healthy options when I don't want to cook for the kids, and great service! The food is delicious! I know the restaurant industry has been struggling and unfortunately that flows through to the customer. We've stopped visiting a lot of places because the mistakes have been critical. I'm sure Laughing Planet is not immune to the issues everyone else is encountering but I'd like to point out the fact that we would never be able to tell if they are. Meh. Yet another place Yelpers review very high that I don't agree with. This place isn't bad, and honestly, had I tried it a few years ago (before I had Great full Gardens), I'd probably give a better review. But alas, I tried it recently and to my disappointment, it is not all it's cracked up to be. I was excited to try Laughing Planet because I was trying to be "good" and was in the area. I got the Paleo Bowl and it was completely underwhelming! The chicken in the bowl had no flavor whatsoever. The only thing in the bowl that actually had and flavor was their killer green sauce which just tasted like hot sauce. Again disappointing. The plus, the vibe of the restaurant was pretty chill...but it's not enough for a return visit from me. I'll stick with Greatfull. read more

The new laughing planet is at a perfect location, right near the UNR campus. It's ideal for students and helps promote the healthy lifestyle. Additionally, being so close to campus and serving healthy choices with vegan and gluten free options you would expect the prices to be sky high and they're not. The prices are all extremely affordable and have a lot of food per serving. I feel comfortable ordering anything on the menu with the knowledge that it was prepared well and that it's made with fresh ingredients. My friend who I usually go with is vegan and it's wonderful that anything on the menu can be made vegan with tofu and daya cheese. Overall a great, trendy, healthy place. read more

I could be shunned for this opinion. But I don't care, the oregon trail cookie (v) is the best cookie I've ever had. I love to come here and sit on the patio and have a cookie and a beer, because I'm a true health enthusiast. BUT for real health nuts out there, this place is great. Such a cool spot! Not only is Laughing Planet a design masterpiece, but their food is delicious. If you love healthy food or are working towards accomplishing a healthy/vegan diet this is the perfect place for you. We had a great experience at this location last week! We are relocating to Reno and my wife is a vegetarian, so we are excited to have a Portland Favorite around the corner from us. We were served by a genuine, cheerful employee who offered us a sample of their quick pickles when my wife asked if they were more of a dill or a sweet pickle. The sample cleared up the confusion on the pickle - it is truly a quick pickle in that it is cucumber and marinade over a canned American sweet-pickle and it was lightly crisp and refreshing. We also appreciated the drink station, free wifi, and plentiful homey seating. We anticipate this place being packed during the semester! read more

The food here is fresh and tasty. My favorite thing on the menu is the Thai bowl. Some of the bowls have very strong flavors, but you can order the sauce on the side. I also recommend ordering extra rice because they don't add very much at the bottom of the bowl. I definitely recommend this place! read more

I could eat here everyday! I always order the special bowl, and ask for double meat. My girlfriend usually orders the special soup and a salad with one of their delicious iced teas (which you can mix btw to get a 50-50 unique flavor). Always friendly and fast service with plenty of places to sit, inside and outside. Prices are very reasonable which adds to why i say I could eat here everyday. I love the atmosphere in here, lots of stuff to make you smile wherever you look. Just recently discovered the upstairs area and was really surprised how big it is and how many more places to sit up there! Visited this location on a Sunday night. There were two people working (one cook and one cashier) and a line full of customers. Waited 30 minutes for my food with a screaming infant. Burritos were 80% rice and I could only locate one piece of chicken in each. My son likes his quesadilla but can't say we will be back. I feel terrible for the two employees. After a few bites it was apparent the veggies were not fresh as they had that "bagged to long" staleness that comes with wholesale food service restaurant supply. Laughing planet has been my go-to place ever since I discovered it! It has such a great location (right next to the UNR campus), the prices are decent, and everything is fairly healthy. They also have many vegan and vegetarian options. The Food: 5/5 I love the Mexican food here! I usually get their specials or I go for the bean and cheese burrito with a whole wheat tortilla and pulled pork. Their quesadillas are also very appetizing and I usually ask for it to be on a whole wheat tortilla (free of charge). Their cookies are to die for! My favorite cookie is the Oatmeal Chocolate Chip. The Service: 4/5 Laughing planet is self-seating. You order up at the register on the first floor, they give you a number, and you find a place to sit. Also, please remember to clean up after yourself when you're done eating. Overall: 4/5 One of my favorite places to eat at! The food, the price, and the location is the best. The only downfall is that their parking isn't too great. You can park on the street that the Sierra Dorms are at, but space is limited. Also, you can park across the street by Manzanita Lake but only after 8 pm if you don't have a parking pass at UNR or you can park at the metered parking. read more

This is a nice location across from the University. The have plenty of seating down and upstairs. They have a creative menu ranging from bowls, burritos and quesadillas. Including a small menu for kids. They offer healthy options and reasonable prices. They have monthly and weekly menu specials which can be very good! My favorite was a Santa Fe bowl. The Korean bowl is another favorite. As for burritos I recommend the bubba burrito, it's a classic. The sparky bowl is a good comfort bowl with mashed potatoes, cheese, corn and broccoli. My only complaint is that someone their food can taste very similar, and flavors can get a bit old after a while. read more

I have been to Laughing Planet before, but had never really paid attention to the quality and variety of food, or the atmosphere. This time I took note. The atmosphere is fun and the service is great. We were pressed for time so we particularly appreciated how quickly our food was ready. I had the Cuban burrito and it was delicious. I wasn't sure what to expect but it had great flavor and was very filling. I appreciate the variety of healthy options that Laughing Planet has to offer. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Laughing Planet. I have been here about 7 times and always have a great experience. Although I have enjoyed some of the bowls they offer (always AMAZING), something keeps me coming back for their daily soup and highway to kale salad. I never know what the soup is when I go in because they change it daily, but I order it no matter what and I am never disappointed. My boyfriend always orders whatever special bowl is available at that time. Even when he has no clue what is in it he orders it and then raves about how amazing it is. I have been coming here off and on over the past year, mainly because I am a vegan and they have many offerings here for us cruelty free eaters and their cookies are to die for! I have always been happy with the food even though I do feel it's a bit pricey for the kind of food it is (beans, rice, tofu, etc) but it's fresh and beggars can't be choosers in this carnivorous world we life in.... So I haven't been in for a few months (cause it's pricey) so I was excited to see a few new items on the main menu. I decided to try the mushroom tacos because mushrooms are by far one of my fav foods and what a disappointment my food came out and I went straight for my taco mouth watering and all... I picked the taco up and immediately could tell the corn tortillas where stone cold (came with 2 double up traditional style) I decided to just dive in anyway since I was hungry and didn't want to make a big deal out of it... I tried to fold the taco and the tortilla cracked in half and things got messy from there. The salsa served with it is amazing but the mushroom to guacamole ratio was waaaaay off and all I could taste was avocado and salsa no sign of the delicious mushroom I was seeking. As the contents flopped on my plate from the broken tortilla I search and saw a VERY small tablespoon side clump of sautéed mushrooms. Albeit they where delicious what a disappointment for $4.50 per taco oh well I still have my delicious cookie waiting for me across the table... tried to take a bite and it was SO DRY and crumbled into crunchy bits (sad face) tastes but devoid of moisture.. I did notice a price increase on some of the items and hope this location gets it together bcuz it's easier for me to get to then the other one in Mid Town but for the price of the food I might take that drive so I can get what I pay for read more

When I first saw this restaurant, my initial thoughts were "what a fun little place". There's outdoor seating and it's a short walk from the river. You'd think with a name like "Laughing Planet", there would be more laughing on the inside. It's very somber and depressing. No one greets you or says hello. I tried to coax a smile out of the treasurer behind the counter, but she wasn't having any of that! They just stand at the counter waiting for you to step up and place your order. My treasurer seemed seriously annoyed when I asked questions about the bibimbap sauce. The food appeared on the table in a medium sized bowl. The vegetables were cooked perfectly and the dish was quite tasty! I thoroughly enjoyed it! The sauce was wonderful!! I'm just not not sure I want to put up with unpleasant service for a bowl of rice. I'd like to give 4 starts for the food but I just cannot get past the arrogance of the people who work there. read more

Ordered take out here one night and really enjoyed our meal. I got the Thai bowl and my bf had a chicken/cheese quesadilla and bean/cheese tofu burrito. He said both were great, although simple. The Thai bowl was awesome! Tofu was pretty bland, but the veggies were fresh and the peanut sauce was full of flavor! Without the sauce, the bowl would have been pretty boring honestly. Awesome find had the Korean bowl with diced chilis and a side of habanero with a local brew on tap, was with my toddler and wife he of course loved the dinosaurs and ate his kid burrito in record time so kudos to the staff for that picky eater. Wife did the taco bowl looked tasty but my Korean bowl with beef had a ton of veg so I was pretty full pretty quick. Service was great let us know about free refills and had suggestions on the menu also talked about weekly specials and pointed out where the high chairs are for the kids!
