When I say comfort food, I refer to foods that we grew up with that a lot of plant based eaters no longer typically consume for personal reasons. I've had a similar spot in Vegas that was awful so I was curious to see how Nom Eats would fare. Let's just say, my appetite was fulfilled. They feature a menu of burritos, sandwiches, burgers, and sides that all utilize mock meats. You've got the typical items using impossible meat and jackfruit, but I loved how Nom Eats offers other not-as-easily found substitutes that I share below. We ordered their Steak Burrito ($12) with seitan and what I'm guessing is a cashew-based cheese sauce. The burrito was humongous and can certainly feed two people. The seitan was juicy and filled with bbq flavor with the cheese/chipotle sauce on the denser side. As a side, we also ordered their Curl Poppers ($5), which are fried soy curls sprinkled with a sunflower seed parmesan and garlic. This was killer and a definite treat so best enjoy it while it's hot. It resembles garlic fries but with more protein since it isn't a potato. This is definitely a good spot for someone transitioning over to veganism or other plant based lifestyle or to those that are curious. No, this is not healthy by any means but if you're looking for a treat that's animal product free, then this is the place to go. read more

Nom Eats - Fried Soy Curls & Steak Burrito - Vegan Near Me - Reno, Nevada

When I first moved to Reno in 2018, I tried the Nom Buffalo Burrito (replete with vegan 'chicken' strip, mac 'n' cheese, & cole slaw) from their truck parked at Pignic. It was love at first bite, and I've been a loyal fan ever since! Especially now that they've established themselves as a brick & mortar location at West Street Market downtown, Nom eats is one of my favorite places to eat in Reno! I have an unofficial tradition of treating myself to their weekly special after work on my Friday. This past week, I tried the loaded Chorizo fries and Peanut butter Snickers pie for dessert (see photos). I have yet to try something from their menu I didn't like! One week, I was accidentally given someone else's burrito order - the Carnitas - and the staff texted me right away about the mistake. I asked if it was ok that I kept the burrito anyway - it was delicious! I also recommend the chickpea melt, a fresh vegan take on my childhood favorite, tuna melts! Nom Eats has something for everyone's craving: burritos , tacos, nachos, fries, sandwiches and salads! I love that you can customize, and order your favorite combinations as a burrito or bowl, or atop mac 'n' cheese, OR on fries. I am by NO means vegan, but these peeps hit the nail on the head. This is food EVERYONE can enjoy, no matter your preference on the vegan-carnivore spectrum. If anything, it has convinced me that going meatless at least once a week doesn't mean I have to sacrifice flavor! OMG- finally ordered from Nom Eats. With this weird take out nation and social distancing, restaurants have created a 'text us your order' and they tell you when it's ready. We ordered a buffalo burrito and a steak burrito! The buffalo burrito was spicy as heck with those marinated soy curls, Mac and cheese and veggies. It's comfort food on a big scale. The steak was perfectly massaged and seasoned seitan with black beans, spicy cheese sauce, rice, pico and chipotle cream. Yes, it tastes like steak ! They do tacos- soy curls, jalapeño and lettuce- 3 for $10! We are texting out again to Nom Eats. It's in West Street Market downtown. Pretty cool location, just off the main street, located in a communal sort of food hall. There's communal seating (like a food court) or a few seat up at the counter. We ordered dinner on a Friday night, and were quoted 25 minutes for the order, so we grabbed a drink a nearby and returned to grab our food. We each ordered a burrito ($12 each) and shared a side salad ($3) and soycurls ($5). My steak burrito (made out of seitan) was pretty damn nice, with tender, perfectly seasoned seiten pieces, along with rice, beans, spicy "cheese", and chipotle cream. Very decadent. The salad was rather underwhelming; though it advertised tomatillo as the first ingredient, there was barely any of it in there -- it was mostly cucumber with spicy tofu feta. The soycurls side is a humungous portion of deep fried, salty soycurls, served with a breath-destroying garlic mayo -- way too much and over-the-top but tasty in a way. I am not vegan, but I have been trying to be more conscious about incorporating vegan foods into my diet. Not being a fan of cooking myself, I am always on the lookout for restaurants in Reno that have vegan offerings on the menu. I was very excited to find this place located in the West 2nd street market which is fully vegan. I stopped by late on a rainy Sunday, and I assumed that maybe it would be slow but I was quite wrong, and there was a good reason: this place is amazing! The menu is fun and diverse, something to hit all the cravings! I was really impressed with the quality of the food. Store bought vegan cheese can sometimes have a grainy texture, but that was not the case at all with Nom Eats! I can honestly say I would be happy eating this every day. I don't miss the meat one bit. I'm also not sure where their vegan ranch comes from (if they make it in house or procure it elsewhere) but it was literally the best dairy free ranch I have ever tasted! I will definitely be coming to this place regularly moving forward, and am so excited that there is another vegan restaurant offering in Reno! read more

I had no idea there were vegan places in Reno. We found this place nestled in the West Street Market. It has cool seating areas inside and outside in the market area. The nom eats has a beautiful wood wall with plants. To clarify, I'm not a vegan but I do enjoy all foods and am impressed by the flavors in the food. We got the "carnitas" tacos, avocado tacos and the curl poppers. The carnitas are the best thing! They tastes and look like nicely seasoned/marinated meat but it's jackfruit! These tacos are crazy good with a lot of flavor, the avocado tacos have a more subtle flavor but still really good. I personally didn't really like the curl poppers, but that's just me, if you're really like fried food and batter you'll love them! And the pricing is pretty good, it was $10 for 3 tacos. Avocado tacos and fries yes please! Very friendly and within 20 minutes I had my eats! Fried avocado tacos were delicious and flavorful and the five dollar side of fries was crispy! I loved the vegan ranch. They have bubly options and diet Dr Pepper if you want a drink. They have a few counter spaces and there is a larger area to sit. I loved Nom Eats when they were a good truck and now that they're more accessible I am so thrilled. They really put a lot of thought and effort into what makes the best quality plant based product that replicates its non-plant based counterpart to a tee. I've never had anything that left me wanting more from it. The Nom buffalo burrito is to die for. It tastes just like a crispy buffalo chicken burrito with Mac and cheese in it. On our most recent visit, we got the steak burrito over fries and a chickpea melt with macaroni and cheese. (The staff was super accommodating as their sandwiches usually only come with fries but she let me get Mac as my side) the chickpea salad replicates tuna so perfectly, it even had an oceany flavor to it and it was creamy, not too starchy. The fries were heavenly, you never would have known it wasn't steak. Overall this place is doing it right, everything I've ever had here has left me craving it again for weeks. I could probably eat here every day and never miss meat again. This is a great place for people who are plant based and still wasn't comfortable food or just for people who appreciate when someone is making food really well! read more

Finally! I got my chance to try Nom Eats' delicious food. Since this is not a brick & mortar establishment, it can be a bit tricky to sync up your meal time with their location and/or hours. But, it finally happened for me. (As a side note-- these guys keep an extremely up-to-date online schedule for location/hours of operation. Nice!) The food, though. Yes... THE FOOD! I got the Buffalo Chicken Burrito. It had macaroni and cheez and coleslaw inside, along with the buffalo-style soy curl "chicken". This burrito was massive! It is definitely shareable, or saveable for leftovers. I would definitely order this again. My only criticism was that it could have used more coleslaw for my taste. I also asked for a side order of the buffalo "chicken" for a few dollars and created a dinner at home with it later. It was perfect. My non-vegan boyfriend even enjoyed it. It was pretty awesome to do a Yelp search of vegan food in Reno and find Nom Eats. I quickly bookmarked it, checked out the truck's schedule and made it my first stop as I arrived in Reno after a 3 hour drive from the Bay. I ordered the Buffalo Burrito and it was the bomb! Perfectly cooked soy curls with buffalo sauce - tender on the inside and crispy on the outside, with tasty mac n cheese and coleslaw all wrapped up in a tortilla. It was the best gift to my tummy after a long drive. The folks at the truck where super friendly and we chatted a while about other vegan eats I should try in Reno and got some really good suggestions. Thanks Nom Eats! Coming from a foodie's dream hometown, we were hoping to find some vegan eats. We quickly realized we had about 2-3 options. Found Nom Eats online and decided to give it a try. Super cool "food collective" area with a huge menu. I had nachos with pulled jackfruit which were so loaded they needed a fork. I'm pretty sure every chip was covered! My husband who is typically a meat eater had pulled jackfruit sliders and he was convinced they were meat. The food was so delicious and flavorful that we decided to return a second night! My favorite vegan place in town! It's only open Thursday through Sunday, and I go almost every weekend. Sometimes, I crave them so badly on other weekdays that I wish it would open everyday! My favorite dishes are smash burger and avocado tacos when I'm hungry and nom salad with fried tofu when I wanted something light. Smash burger tastes just like meat but better!! YES YES YES YES! We have been waiting to try this place every time we venture up to Reno and we always seem to miss them. This time, Nom Eats was parked up right before we left for our way back home. We did not want to miss this! We showed up to the food truck where the man who took our order was very nice to us! With that said, make sure you fit into the time frames and get their early because menu items will be dropping off the menu as they run out of them. The misses had the buffalo sandwich where I had the buffalo burrito and we can say with confidence, THEY WERE AMAZING. I'm happy to say this is not the first #vegan experience in The #BiggestLittleCity to knock my socks off! Nope, that title belongs to the Electric Blue Elephant. But I'm happy because that means that: 1) There is more than one vegetarian/vegan option in town! 2) Restauranteurs like Nom Eats are stepping up their game and showing us what vegan cuisine can be by bashing all our preconceived notions! 3) Vegan food can be just as craveable and downright delicious as anything else we've got to offer! Nom Eats is putting kooky and creative vegan twists to familiar favorites, and keeping it fresh and funky with an eclectic ever changing menu of specials too! The day I stopped by I was immediately torn between the "Chicken Salad Club" which had something called coconut bacon on it, and the Buffalo Burrito, stuffed with crispy buffalo "chicken", creamy coleslaw, and Mac n cheez. But the menu features salad options as well as some very tantalizing taco offerings as well, which I think I'd like to try on my next visit. Honestly I don't think I could've made a bad choice here, but I went with the burrito because it sounded large and in charge. The crispy buffalo chicken offered that classic buffalo spice with just enough of that crispness to make you think you were eating something fried. The creamy coleslaw also added a nice crunch as well, while the Mac was a soft and tender compliment to it all. I think my one criticism was that I'd wished the "chicken" were in larger pieces and the Mac n cheez was a bit bland. But all that said, the awesome array of specialty hot sauces offered at this truck fixed all of that in a jiffy! I wished I'd remembered the one I tried because it was damn good, but all I could remember was owner Ian telling me it was a former member of a rock band who created it! Overall, I'm super excited to have Nom Eats on scene and they will definitely be a truck I seek out when given the opportunity. In the meantime, I might have to catch them at Under a The Rose for food truck night or at one of the upcoming summer time food truck rallies! While I hope they have a huge line all season long, part of me hopes vegan food is still intimidating to some people so I can get my hands on some of their yummy grub again soon! read more

There are so many things I can say about Nom. Nom is my go-to! Being Vegan has some changes when you live in Reno; however, Nom provides the absolute best food! I have never once had a bad meal at Nom. I've pretty much tried every menu item, all of which have exceeded my expectations. My non-vegan family has come and enjoyed it just as much as I! Sometimes the parking in their location is tough, but that's to be expected in downtown Reno. No worries, the food makes up for it! I also appreciate the sustainability they are trying to achieve. Okay I'm not a vegan but I have a friend who is. At least they were my friend the last time I checked. I'll try different food. Why not? I've had plenty of pizza so it was time to venture further. Since this is in West Street Market it's convenient for getting food to eat with my wine from the wine bar at the same location. I've had the nachoes, mac and cheese, curly tofu, fries and tacos. I think that's dedication to food adventure. So far the nachoes are my favorite. They come in a really large bowl that can be shared. The tacos were good, but I ate one and took two home. I wasn't a fan of the curly tofu fries as they were dry but with enough sauce they might be okay. It's interesting that they have meat substitutes and call them by meat names like carne asada. I'd be okay if they made up some vegan names for the meat like stuff. Anyway the food is fresh and tasty and it's good to have choices. read more

I've been wanting to try Nom Eats for a very long time, and I've gotta say, it lives up to its hype! I'll definitely be keeping my eye out for that classic truck of their's. My friend ordered the CALI BURRITO, and it was very good. The sauce they make is to-die-for and ridiculously flavorful, complementing the soy curls perfectly. Also, the thing was massive, and could easily feed two people. We actually ended up taking the burrito home, heating it in the oven, then splitting it between the two of us. Half of the burrito was a very filling dinner. I got the BREAKFAST BURRITO, and it was equally delicious. Packed to the brim with flavorful soyrizo and other delicious components. This burrito was a bit smaller than the Cali, but still humongous. Lastly, we ordered the CRISPY CHIKN' TACOS to-go. These were simply incredible. The soy curls tasted decadent and deep fried, but upon further research, I discovered that they are actually very nutritious and deceivingly healthy! Again, the homemade sauce was extremely impressive, and took these tacos to the next level. My only complaint is that our burritos were extremely greasy. By the time we got home, the tortillas on both the burritos were bright orange and soggy from the amount of grease, and it made a puddle in the tin foil. I felt a bit sick after eating half of the Cali Burrito as well. However, they were bursting with flavor and definitely satisfying in the moment. This is the epitome of vegan comfort food. Furthermore, the people making the burritos are clearly experts. All the ingredients are in the perfect proportions; when it's cut in half, the burrito looks like it came out of an advertisement. Have been consistently trying to eat at this restaurant for years. Thought they were great as a food truck, and was ecstatic when they were able to crowd fund for a brick and mortar spot. Have been turned away at least a dozen times because they are only open 4 hours a night. If the food was worth it, I'd look up the hours, but at this rate its like dealing with an inconsistent drug dealer. Not worth my time anyway, gonna just start making mediocre burritos at home. Even though the afternoon was 100, the trees gave a cool area to hang out this evening. Food Dinner - I had the Cali Burrito. It might have of been vegan but I did not miss a thing. I am not a vegan, but dear god, this food may convince me to become one. I had the opportunity to finally try them when they were at the ACA Relay for Life Event. Small crowd, no long lines YAY! I ordered the Cali Burrito. It was a spinach tortilla wrapped around a medley of ingredients including soy curd "chicken", avocado, rice, corn, french fries, and some sort of miracle cheesy tasting sauce that helped bind it all together. It was a nice balance of spice and creaminess and meatiness that really worked well. It was also served piping hot and all the ingredients were perfectly cooked. The portion was HUGE and well worth the $10. I could not finish it all so it ended up being two meals. Staff were friendly and and ordering and getting the food was quick and easy. There was a bit of a wait (maybe 5 minutes?) while they prepared my meal. They offered free "Arnold Palmers" to sip on while waiting. A really nice touch. I am looking forward to trying another item. Just a quick update... I have been back to visit this truck several times now since my first visit. I didn't think it could get any better... but it has. Oh, how it has... I have had the opportunity to sample several more of their delectable delights and each one was so mouthwatering good, it's hard to pick a favorite. I have not had anything that wasn't sheer deliciousness. And Roxie loves to soak up all the attention she gets while we wait for an order, so I am pretty sure she would give it paws up as well.
