I used to love LP.. I haven't eaten here in years because I don't have one nearby, but I went out of my way to stop in and grab a burrito. I just had one of the most disappointing burritos of my life. I ordered a grilled chicken burrito with green chilis and chipotle bbq sauce. It was cold. Everything was cold. The rice, the chicken, the cheese... everything. I called it in, they were still making it when I arrived, and I got into it in my car moments after I paid, so it wasn't that it had time to get cold. The only appropriate place for cold burritos is the deli case at a grocery store. In addition to it being cold, it was really wet. I felt like I was drinking my burrito. No bueno. And aside from all that, I was mega disappointed to learn that their mole sauce now contains sesame. It didn't used to, and the Holy Mole Was always my go-to. I don't know when they switched up their recipe, but sesame is now the 9th top allergen in the US. LP seems like the kind of place that would be conscious of things like that, but apparently not. I had the kale Caesar and a Green is Good juice delivered for lunch, and I'm pretty disappointed. I don't typically leave reviews like this, but for the price point of these items vs. what I received is worth noting, in my opinion. The kale Caesar claims to be a large for $10. I didn't add any additional protein because it stated online that it comes with chickpeas (the photo also shows chickpeas on the salad), however my salad did not have chickpeas. Instead it was a half filled bowl with kale, pepitas and the dressing. Very underwhelming and not at all worth $10. The green juice is tasty, but why did I pay $9.50 for only half of the cup to be filled when I received it? It makes me wonder if you get the full juice when you order in-store. I love coming to Laughing Planet, it's fast casual so it certainly feels more elevated than a fast food place. I love the nutritious options and how they post ingredients on the website. I love the Sumac salad and the Buddha bowl, or even whatever is on rotation. Food is fresh, colorful and healthy. You can add proteins to your dish and I like the variety...though the portions are a touch small for the protein add on. Service here always seems spot on! read more

I ended up getting the harvest bowl that came out to be $9.00 even (no sales tax in Oregon)--I choose this entree in particular because it is served with quinoa, sautéed kale, pumpkin seeds, avocado and black beans. Flat out our favorite place to eat. The service is always outstanding, very friendly and competent staff, (not to be taken for granted in Portland). Really good food, well cooked, fresh ingredients. I see a great variety of people in there, little kids, hipsters, oldsters, the music is entertaining in a generally ironic way. The food is consistently great, a really good value. Eating out back is great most of the time. Service is very fast for how busy they tend to be. I wish we had more places like this in Portland: good food, good service, easy going atmosphere, neighborhood feel. First time trying Laughing Planet. I got the Korean BBQ bowl and I really liked my food. It looked so healthy and wholesome and the Korean BBQ sauce was very tasty. Everything was vegan so that was something I really loved! The brown rice was really tasty and well cooked. My lemonade was also one of my fave lemonades that I've tried at any restaurant. It wasn't overly sweet at all, it tasted just right. I liked how sour it was too because I'm a sucker for sour things and I love the taste of authentic lemonade. I would appreciate less ice next time though so I'll have to include that in the notes. Hubby got the Comfort Bowl and mother in law got the standard bean burrito. Great price for the burrito! My hubby loved his bowl and we liked that the beans were smart pinto beans. Overall very good quality and good food. We waited a little too long but maybe it's the standard, 20 mins? Perhaps we were just too hungry so we kept looking at the time. Sadly they don't have inside seating available, like all of Portland. So you have to sit outside, but it was okay minus the pesky flies that try to fly over your food and the loud car noises. I do wish that the bowls were a little bit cheaper, mine was 11 dollars. 8 or 9 dollars would be a better price as your burritos are 6.50. Doesn't make sense that a bowl costs nearly double. I love Laughing Planet for their bowls. My go-tos are the Bollywood Bowl and the Paleo Bowl with chicken. They're fresh, healthy, and budget-friendly. I also want to give a shout-out to their excellent contactless pickup. Once you place your order online, you pick up your food at a window to the right of the front door. I appreciate businesses that take safety precautions seriously during COVID, and was impressed with the setup at the Belmont location. One of my favorite restaurants of all time. The original location was in Bloomington, IN where I went to university. I was so excited to see they had multiple locations in Portland. The kale Caesar salad is the best I've ever had. The amazing grace quesadilla is perfection. What's not to love here? Well, nothing. This place is an awesome standby for me. The food is always fresh and the burritos are honkin' huge. One false move with the foil wrap and your burrito could be a mess in your lap. They're even kind enough to warn you about it. For those of us who don't eat wheat or are gluten intolerant, they offer burritos without the wrap. Try the no carb bowl with tempeh for a tasty treat you won't forget. Lots of veggies, tempeh, and I think tahini. Not quite sure on that one but it's good so who cares. So, pack up the kids for a fun treat on Belmont St. Dinosaur toys are entertaining and they even have a large collection of Godzilla's to admire while enjoying your gargantuan burrito. i've heard people rave about this place because they have fresh bowls etc. however I was not impressed I ended up getting the daily special for $12.50 it was nasty like I don't know how to compare it to a bowl of healthy food that taste like sand on the beach. After a few bites I started to feel nauseous you know that feeling when you get when you ate too much sushi and you just need to stop because your gag reflex will not allow you to swallow another bite. My 7 year old loves "Spanky's bowl" (teehee) this is a bowl full of mashed potatoes, corn, broccoli, cheese and for those meateaters out there you can get chicken on top. They have great homemade salsa's for their chips or to put on top of your grub. Probably the best part, the plastic dinosaurs that you can play with and have attack eachother during dinner! The cashier gave attitude when I asked for a Sprite to drink, "Everything we have to drink is right here," gesturing to a row of various bottled drinks, "and we don't take American Express either." So I'm laid up at home after emergency surgery, and husband is having to cook or at least be responsible for dinner, which is scary, honestly ( ssh, don't tell him I said that, but 5 hours to make chicken cacciatore? dinner at 9pm! really!) .. and I'm thinking, what did we do LAST time? when our kid was born? Oh, we had take out, from places in Belmont, and we ate a LOT of Laughing Planet. In fact, the whole time we lived there, we ate a lot of LP. I want an amaizing grace quesadilla, and I want it right now. Corn, jack cheese, pesto... come on! In a white or wheat tortilla... I like whole wheat. YUM. Recently I was in the one on Mississippi,I had my quesadilla, it's the go to thing, sorry, and it was still good, consistent, healthy food. And no, we're not hippies, not really anyway. We don't eat tempeh for one thing, blah.( tofu yes, tempeh no) Although LP has that if you're into that sort of thing. Husband likes the mole burrito, and if you remember husband, he is mr picky pants about mole. Once in a while he or I would get a Thai Me up burrito, or a Bubba, which is kind of barbecue and corn themed. Laughing Planet is great for kids, they are very helpful with separating things out for toddlers ( or at least they were) and my daughter eats their food happily, especially the guac. All guac all the time, though, just to inform you. It's not extremely special guac, just consistent. The closest Laughing P to us now is in Gabriel Park, there really ought to be one in Bethany it would do well. When it's minus 4 degrees outside all you want is a steaming hot bowl of chili. I had just walked 2km from a bus station through shanty town Portland to try and find and op-shop, when this warm little haven of health caught my eye. I thought I'd entered another Portland faux meat, bowl of awkward tasting greens cafe when I spotted "omnivore friendly" on the menu and breathed a sigh of relief. Of course I went ahead and ordered the Veggie Chili anyway with a cup of ginger ale but it was the principle of the thing that I knew this place wasn't going to try and force a Hemp Bowl on me anytime soon. My hearty chili bowl was $5 (you can't even get a piece of banana bread in Aus for that) and it left me full to the brim of beans, corn, zucchini, carrot and nice salty corn chips. I could have easily stayed and played with their dinosaur table numbers or used their free wi-fi in the warm all day but my op-shopping adventures awaited. I used to love Laughing Planet (years ago) and this location was my favorite. You may ask how hard it is to make 30 different variations on rice and beans but I think there's an art to doing it right and this place used to do it right. Note, I say USED TO to do it right. Not anymore. An off day can be forgiven when you go somewhere a lot and I'm willing to overlook a few not great experiences. But this place has gone steadily downhill. The whole vibe has changed and the food just isn't good anymore. The bowl I got recently was pretty terrible. The rice was that kind of rice at the bottom of the warmer that gets kind of crunchy and you just serve it up because it's near closing time and you don't feel like making more. The avocado was rubbery and strange and completely inedible. And they've gotten stingy with salsa; I'm pretty sure when you ask for 2 salsas now they just laboriously divide one serving of salsa into 2 containers. Not sure that's even worth the effort. Asked for extra cheese on the burrito my husband ordered and he said it had almost no cheese. To top everything off the cookie we ordered was stale. I'm so out of love with you Laughing Planet. I miss when you were good and I also miss the Cuban Bowl which you discontinued and I miss getting the perfect amount of salsa. Our neighborhood stand by for healthy burritos. You can get it as plain or as decadent or as healthy as you like. This place takes the cake for sustainability. Local this, local that, local RULES!!!!
