This is literally the best vegan spot in Memphis. I have invited lots of my family and friends, and…read morethey all have mentioned that they cannot tell that the food did not derive from an animal. I originally started my vegan journey in Atlanta. Moving back home, I didn't think that I would find any food that will be comparable to what I had. Well, I was wrong. Son of a vegan showed out in many ways! Customer: 20/10 Ayesha, the owner, has always been extremely nice. She's always taken the time to explain any item that I ask about. She speaks when we arrive and always makes sure to ask about our experience. You can tell that this is more than just a business to her. It is a passion. Taste: 20/10 As I mentioned before, this place is second to none. Everything that I have tried has been great: the barbecue nachos, barbecue vicken, bacon, quesadilla, patty melt, chopped cheese, Philly, seasoned fries, desserts, and everything in between. The most loved item is the lasagna!!! It is so good that you will feel as if you're in an Italian restaurant while eating it. Cost: 10/10 The prices are reasonable and the portion sizes are great also. Parking: 10/10 It is located inside of the mall. So, there's lots of parking. Creativity: 10/10 At one point, the owner offered a cooking class. My family, friends, and I attended. We loved it one of the takeaways that we still use today is being intentional with visiting our local farmer's market. That is something that I had never done until that point. She also challenged us to stop hoarding food by cleaning out our cabinets. Let's just say there were cans that were extremely dated in the pantry. I have no clue why I was keeping cans that long, but I did. Some of them were old enough to be in preschool lol. Anywho, I'm grateful for her suggestion! They also have games that you could play while waiting for your food. My cousin and I love the game Trouble. So we would often play a round or two before eating on your "Cousin Dates". Being that I'm an extreme yelper, I cannot believe that I have not reviewed this amazing business until now. Honestly, it deserved a five star or HIGHER every time I've visited over the past two years. SOV has even encouraged some of my family members to try a vegan lifestyle. Though I am not vegan any longer, I still made an effort to visit this location because it's just that good. It's sad to hear that they are closing because it is a staple in the Memphis community. Its imprint will remain permanent within our culture and our hearts. Cue Boyz II Men "ALTHOUGH WE'VE COME TO THE END OF THE ROAD......"

I got the taco trio and got a different protein with each taco. All the heat "beef", no heat "beef", and chipotle "chicken" I would absolutely eat here again. None of us are vegan or even vegetarian. We all three completely enjoyed our meal.

We spent our first night in the state in Memphis and were ready for some good Southern food. We had the ribs, barbecue, beans, sweet tea, and a cold beer--and everything hit the spot! The ribs were tender and flavorful, and the sweet tea was the perfect introduction to the South. The service was great, the wait was minimal, and our food came out so quickly it was almost like they were waiting for us to arrive! The atmosphere was lively with that great Memphis energy--a little loud, but not overwhelming. There was something special about sitting down to Memphis barbecue after driving all the way from California and realizing, "We made it to Tennessee!" A delicious and memorable first meal in our new home state.

The atmosphere was welcoming, lively, and full of great energy. I sat at the bar, and my bartender did not miss a beat. Even though I was dining alone, she continued to check on me throughout the evening and made sure I was well taken care of. I ordered the ribs dry with the sauce on the side, and they were absolutely delicious! They were packed with flavor and literally falling off the bone. The baked beans and turnip greens were also extremely good and definitely worth trying. Overall, I had a wonderful experience from the food to the atmosphere and service. I'm definitely glad I gave this spot a try, and I would absolutely recommend Blues City Cafe if you're looking for good barbecue and a great atmosphere!

The Genre is always going to have a customer in me. The parking situation was a little hectic but…read morethat was due to the school graduations happening. Their parking is $5 which isn't bad for downtown. When you walk in, you are welcomed with good music, good vibes and a dreamy blue light that makes any skin look good. (Think Belly, ifkyk). Went for my besties bday party so we were set up in the back in area where they called it the "Garage". It was a very nice space and open up to the outside area too. They did have a bar setup but no bartenders, made drinks in the front. The Food!!!! 10/10 and I will solely keep going for that fried catfish. My whole table had them. 1-2 pieces on catfish each. It's that good. I got some tenders with fries and a side of the spicy honey gold sauce. Best sauce that I had in awhile. Our waitresses Kim & Patrice were phenomenal to us the entire night. Anything that we wanted, we got it. For a Saturday night, they were on point with the service. The Chef also keep checking in on us too and that's something you typically don't see. Going the the bathroom, you can see artwork displayed. The bathroom has mouthwash as well. Perfect for ending the night.

Never again. While…read morethe food itself was good, the service was among the worst I've experienced. We ordered tacos that were brought to the table without plates. After requesting plates, silverware, and napkins, none of those items ever arrived, leaving us to eat without basic utensils or proper place settings. We also ordered water and were told there would be a charge, which was fine--but the water never came. Unfortunately, that was only one of several service issues we encountered throughout our visit. Good food can only go so far when the overall dining experience is this frustrating. Based on the lack of attention to customers and poor follow-through on even the simplest requests, I would not return and cannot recommend this restaurant. Save yourself the disappointment and choose another venue.
