We host catered parties every year and used Imagine Vegan to cater to our growing number of vegan and veggie friends at our Christmas party this year. It was hands-down the biggest food success we've ever had! Owner, Kristie Jeffrey was a dream to work with: responsive, kind, knowledgeable and genuinely invested in helping us. The food exceeded every expectation. We intentionally ordered appetizers from IV for the entire party, (not just the vegans), with small signs that read: "For Everyone: It's Delicious AND Vegan." Even so, guests couldn't believe what they were eating. Meat-eaters and long time vegans kept double-checking with me that the food was truly vegan, and I (happily) spent the night sharing where it came from! Highlights: Dogs N' Blankets were FLAKY! To be clear: that's PASTRY with no butter and still perfect hours later* The potato skins with "bacon" "cheddar" and "sour cream" converted my dairy-loving, bacon and sausage-loving, picky husband, and he ignored the omnivore meals we selected from another caterer. Spinach dip, rice and vegetables were all deeply flavorful and comforting. The lasagna! For decades I've reproduced a vegetarian lasagna I learned from a friend who's a private chef in London, and after tasting IM's, I'm officially retired. The vegetables were rich, savory, and beautifully balanced, with a flavorful sauce that comes from the spices and vegetables themselves. *For anyone considering Imagine Vegan for catering, a small but helpful tip: when you bring home items that lose texture with steam (like pastries or potato skins) take them out of the foil containers immediately. Before guests arrived, we kept the skins and DN'Bs in our warmer (vents open-no moisture - or you can low-heat warm in the oven with the door slightly open) then later popped them on to platters that had been sitting on silicone warming mats. Dishes like lasagna, rice, vegetables, and dips hold beautifully in chafing dishes with steam. Everything we served looked and tasted as though it had just come out of Imagine Vegan's kitchen! Guests have complemented us on the food at our previous parties, but NEVER like this. They were shocked to be enjoying animal-product-free food THIS much, and excited to know that we have truly delicious, TRULY healthier Southern food options right here in Memphis. This place is completely vegan and a must try!! I had the vegan BBQ sandwich platter as it was recommended by my waitress as the popular item. I found out why. It was absolutely delicious. The bun was buttery and crispy. The BBQ sauce was chef's kiss. I was not expecting it to taste like that! The meat was nice and chewy and the slaw on top was a nice compliment to the sandwich as a whole. The baked beans were okay and the fries had a nice seasoning and were crunchy and fresh. I can't get over how good that sandwich was. The 5 stars is for the sandwich alone because whew!!! I am thoroughly impressed. I came with a group of friends and our waitress was very sweet and attentive. It's a pretty standard size place with plenty of seating. We went during a non-busy time and were able to try their vegan chocolate cake (we sang happy birthday for another party that was there and that party gave us a slice of their cake) and it was soft and chewy. So this was a great place to come across. I was so hungry and have given up meat for a while. I'm happy to say that this place is a great substitute. PLEASE NOTE: Of course, it will not taste exactly like meat meals you've had. If you limit your palate to look for the "tells," you'll find it. FOOD: I had the fried chicken sandwhich. It was very simplistic, like a chic-fil-a sandwich. I added some ketchup to it, and it was really good. The bun was toasted, and you could taste the butter on the bun. I also had the gumbo, which was really good. The flavor is there, and it was so warm and filling. The perfect vegan comfort food. I took the double bacon cheeseburger to go, and I can't wait to eat it. We also got a strawberry cheese cake, cobbler, and a chess bar. Very sweet. So, the place is rather dim and grimy, but the service is friendly and then there's the FOOD!! Most vegan places have a limited menu of mostly fried items. Imagine has an extensive menu. We started with the appetizer sampler. It was so delicious! The "mozzarella " sticks tasted also much like the real thing, except they are better! And the hushpuppies, yummmmm. I had a hard time choosing between the hot dog and Jamaican jerk chicken sandwich . I finally decided on the hot dog because I'm always excited for a vegan dog that doesn't taste like a smart dog microwaved in a bun. Just don't. I don't know where to begin. Hundreds of flies. Dirty, sticky tables and floor. Terrible service. Food so bad we sent it back after it took 20 minutes to get, even though we were 1of 3 seated tables. Our server didn't even bother to ask why we sent the food back, she just brought the check that includes a $4.50 service charge. No manager available to talk to, no attempt to make things right. I have struggled to find good pork for years. Been stuck with jackfruit, which is not bad, but it doesn't taste like pork. This BBQ sandwich was so good. How good? It made me flood my basement. I was blown away. The strawberry milkshake was also very good. a lil too sweet but reminded me of the diner shakes I had as a kid. the ruben was interesting. the meat was a kind of slimey texture, but the flavors were there. the mac and cheese was bad though. I was staying in the neighborhood and came across this restaurant when searching for vegan food. The space itself is super cute, I was able to set up my laptop and work. The staff was friendly, and most importantly, the food was delicious. I had the shrimp po boy and mac and cheese and they both had lots of flavor. I lived most of my life in Memphis and never tried this restaurant. But since I've been plant based for two years now I just so happen to try it while visiting and it did not disappoint. I got the jerk chicken sandwich. The sauce was delicious, a little too much for me, and the pineapples really took it to another level. I really like the hush puppies and how they had a spice to them. I was also able to try to Memphis BBQ sandwich and you wouldn't even know it was vegan. It was that damn good. We were in Memphis for conference and my husband is vegan so it was very hard to find a place for both of us to eat. We found this location on Yelp and decided to check it out. When we 1st looked over the menu we were so excited to taste all of the different vegan options and started off with the mixed appetizer. Very disappointed to see that it was pretty much all of the frozen vegan items we typically get from the grocery store that was presented to us on a plate at a much higher cost then when I serve the same items at home. The beans tasted like canned beans and very salty, the fries tasted like they came from a frozen bag. The only good items were the corn dogs and sweet tea. I was extremely disappointed that they used frozen processed grocery store vegan food items and pushed this off as restaurant quality. When we support vegan restaurants we are looking for fresh, creative cooking at a premium price because its fresh. COCKROACHES!! Cockroaches carry bacteria, viruses, and parasites on their bodies and in their droppings. Ordered appetizer's (gross) and then realized this restaurant has a roach problem. The bill was paid and we left. I went with friends visiting from out of town (who are vegan), figured I would try it (gross). When I told the staff that they had a roach problem.. "yes, we know" was their reply. This restaurant also has signs inside the bathrooms and a flag supporting Palestine (seems political, the restaurant owners freedom of choice to support). My inclination was to leave since the restaurant was empty (we were the only patrons in the place). Full disclosure: I am not a vegan, but my sister is. This place is totally approved by her... AND ME! Our food was GREAT! My sister was thrilled to be in a fully vegan restaurant, so we ordered a little bit of everything. It was really cool to get a taste of it all. Plus they didn't have dine in and it was cold outside anyway. I ordered the IMPOSSIBLE 1-5 i have to say a 3, the chicken nuggets 1-5 a 2. Ugh. I had such high hopes for this place, especially after I arrived and found out they make the vegan ranch I have shipped to Reno. I ordered a ton of food to go because they don't offer dine in. They advertise a white Mac or a cheddar Mac, or a combo. I opted for the combo. I was utterly sad to discover it was cold, and bland. It didn't look like two kinds of Mac, it looked boring. The mashies were almost perfect except they were soaked in salt. I love salt but this wasn't edible. I didn't finish it. The corn bread was dry in a way I didn't know corn bread Could be. I ordered 3 desserts and received 2. I asked for the chocolate cake which was so dry that hours later after I doused it in coconut milk and let it soak, it was STILLL dry. The gluten free blueberry cream dessert was just awful. The mint pie? I dont know. I never got mine. Overall I would not return. It wasn't worth getting lost and spending 10 minutes trying to park. I drove 1.5 hours to get to Memphis because I was saying overnight in a small town nearby. I knew I wanted vegetarian options so I did a Yelp search and found Imagine. In town for one night and looked on Yelp for a vegan spot. There were so many things to choose from. Based on the reviews I chose the mozzarella sticks and the spinach dip. I enjoyed the mozzarella sticks. They were very crunchy and the cheese almost stretched like real cheese. The spinach dip was more like creamed spinach. The people I was with really enjoyed it. It was just ok for me. I wish I would have tried the nachos or the veggie plate. Perhaps if it came with some salsa it would help break up the heaviness of the dish. Wonderful. Just wonderful. We made a 45 minute drive to try this place. Well worth the drive as it did not disappoint. Food and service were top notch. Just became a vegetarian 12/26/23 I have been cooking different foods from TikTok and facebook but I still enjoy eating out. So I started looking for different places than serve veggie dishes. I tried this spot today and had the impossible burger with fries it was very delicious and I loved the seasoned fries everything was hot. I was going to get a strawberry lemonade I thought it was made but it came in a small bottle it was over 3.00 so I decided to just have water. My husband had the Hotwings it was tofu I sampled his but although it was okay it wasn't to my liking. But it doesn't mean you may not like it.
