Cute lunch spot. Seating indoors, outdoors and a small loft upstairs. Order at the end of the corner - pay at the other end. The food is quick and good and very reasonable priced. Don't skip desert and chat with the guy running the show. He's a Raiders fan but other than that 5 stars. :)

I like to order The Lunchbox here- half a sandwich, a bowl of fruit and a cup of fat-free frozen yogurt. Perfect sized portions, and really great food. I stay away from chicken salad here because theirs is made with raisins, and I hate raisins with a passion, otherwise I would go for this sandwich every time. Instead, I usually opt for a turkey or BLT sandwich or a garden burger. The fruit side always makes me feel a little health-conscious, if only for a little while until my afternoon snack time approaches. Finish the meal off with a little strawberry yogurt, and I'm a happy girl. They also serve salads, pastas, and PB&Js for the kiddos.

Only place in the area to pick up a quick lunch or eat inside or on the patio with limited time. For a Full Sandwich, the portion of Chicken Salad was small. Gazpacho wasn't chunky -- it was blended. No one told me that the small bag of chips was included. Later as I was looking around, I noticed others eating chips. "Free wifi" but it was locked. I had just noticed Pending Updates to apps I regularly use that could download while I ate. Guy came out of the kitchen 10 minutes later, unlocked it & I asked for the password. I didn't notice any customers being greeted or thanked.

Dijon Chicken Salad Sandwich from Paradise Cafe

Sometimes, I get all excited about having lunch at a place that seems like a relatively unknown spot, only to find out that it's far from unknown and I'm just apparently the last person to find out about it. I got to the Paradise Cafe in East Memphis around 12:45, expecting the lunch crowds to have finished their meals and returned to work. The small one-and-a-half story cafe was still packed, but it didn't take long after I placed my order at the counter to find an open table. Paradise Cafe specializes in light traditional sandwiches, salads and specialty sandwiches. They're also one of the only places in Memphis where you can get two different kinds of chicken salad (the cajun chicken salad has fruit and nuts, the dijon chicken salad is more traditional). I ordered the Dijon chicken salad sandwich and a drink, and my total came out to about $7 - not bad for a quality lunch. The chicken salad was traditional, but the dijon mustard it was made with gave it a little bit of a kick. The sandwich was served with lettuce and tomato on lightly toasted sourdough bread (they've got several different kinds of bread to choose from). The portion size was just right for lunch.

My sandwich was very good! $10 is pretty fair for what I got. I loved the sauce, the meat was also really good. The tater salad was AMAZING! The meal was a solid 9/10 If you're in Memphis and you want some good BBQ made with heart and soul, then you should try Elwood's. The only thing missing from my meal that would've completed it for me was some hot buttery cornbread. I'll certainly be back to try their ribs and other foods!

I took the advice, and I'm really glad I did. It was fantastic--stacked with pulled pork, smoked sausage, and beef brisket, all topped with slaw and BBQ sauce on a bun. I also tried a bite of the barbecue bologna, which is a thick-cut slice served on white bread, and that didn't disappoint either. Inside gets pretty smoky, so you'll probably prefer sitting outside. Luckily, there are plenty of picnic tables and seating areas to choose from. I didn't catch the name of the guy who helped me, but he was friendly, energetic, and made the whole experience even better. Overall, a really enjoyable visit.

I could tell that he had established relationships with some of his customers and that is always nice to see. It is great when a business can truly be connected to their community. It was raining one day and he was courteous enough to help me take my food to my car and even opened my door for me. He is such a kind person. He has gained a customer for sure in me. I also want to say that their side salad is really good. I used to try the pasta as the side but it would always be so dry and flavorless. Now that I have had their salad, with such great improvement, I'm curious if the pasta has received a makeover as well. I also order a salad that had the Greek salad. It has feta cheese in it, olives, onion, tomato with a side of Balsamic vinaigrette and an Herbal vinaigrette dressing. I fully enjoyed the salad and that is saying a lot, because I don't typically do salads at restaurants just because I feel like I make better at home.

The young ladies were very busy but still checked on us as much as possible. We received water promptly and my friend ordered a sampler plate of hummus, Baba Ganoush and spinach dip. The trio was served with pita and chips. The pita was okay. It was a little tough. I ordered the Santorini Gyro. It had Gyro meat, lettuce, tomatoes, purple onions, cucumbers, feta cheese and Café Med herbal vinaigrette dressing. It was huge and was delicious. It needed a little bit more vinaigrette for me. I took a lot of it home to enjoy. Our sampler trio was quite tasty. The restaurant is decorated with Mediterranean decor. It is quite quaint and very cozy. A tad warm inside but still comfortable. We were waiting for the server to bring our checks as we did not know we were to pay at the register in the rear. The place was very busy as many patrons stopped for lunch or take-out orders. I will return for sure.

One bite in and I forgot my name, my responsibilities, and honestly what life was like before this moment. Crispy, juicy, perfectly stacked perfection... The kind of good that makes you pause mid-bite, stare into the distance, and rethink every taco you've ever had before this. And yes... I'm not ashamed to say it--I had a full-blown foodgasm. He's very nice, but the food is only average and certainly not unique unless you've never had authentic Mexican food. We are from out of town and I'm guessing that maybe this place might be the only restaurant serving such cuisine in the area. I did, however, see a taco truck downtown that looked pretty damn authentic. The prices here are ridiculous. I have been to restaurants all over the country serving the exact same food and rarely pay more than $3 per taco or $12 for a torta. By the way, what they call a "Tortuga" it's not a signature creation. It's just a torta, a staple of authentic Mexican food. My friend and I both got taco plates, which were each around $25. That's outrageous. That would even be outrageous for a place that has table service which this place does not. I would not come back here. If I am in Memphis again and craving Mexican food, I'm definitely going to try the trucks. PS Guy Fieri signing off on a restaurant is something that I consider more of a red flag than a sign of excellence.
