First time at Vanelli'- an establishment for over two decades where mentoring and customer service are combined. Not only is the food delicious, but the ownership and leadership guiding the next generation of the workforce is what spoke to my heart. The cleanliness, warm greeting, and, did I mention, the food were magnificent. Tried the Ami sandwich, Italian spinach, and Doc's Italian sausage, which was tantalizing. I hear that the salmon salad is one worth trying, and don't forget to grab a cookie to go read more

Vanelli's Deli - Delis Near Me - Germantown, Tennessee

Really good sandwich & a staple in Germantown. Hack: Take the bag chips they offer, "house chips" are just ruffles, NOT homemade. Absolutely, get a cookie though, oatmeal raisin was special. read more

Solid sandwich! Got the Ami. Enjoyed the large portion size and the fresh ingredients. At first, I was surprised that the sandwich seemed to be lacking a hearty sauce. And if there was Italian dressing on there, it was in a very light amount. But I actually came to appreciate the lightly dressed sandwich in terms of sauce because you could actually taste the quality of the pastrami, salami, provolone, and vegetables! read more

$17 for a hot pastrami sandwich with unmelted Swiss and old pastrami. As a first experience, this was not what I expected. 2 star for decent bread even if it was soggy. read more

My husband and I were finally able to check this place out. I'm from Brooklyn, NY, so when I asked locally where to go to get a good deli sub, everyone said Vanellis, so I was very excited. The quality of cold cuts is good, but the amount of filling (meat, cheese and veg) to bread is crazy. The bread is probably the best bread we have had in Memphis when it comes to subs, however, it was nothing like the bread back in NY or like any actual Italian bread I've ever had. It's more so a very soft type bread. None of that crunchy outer layer with a soft and pillowy inside that makes us all love deli subs so much up North. If you're looking for a good place for cold cuts, this is one of them. However, you'll be better off just going to Kroger for Boars Head because the prices here are $15-20 per LB for meats and I believe $9-10 per LB for cheeses. Overall, the subs were fine. Nothing special. Definitely not what I expected when being told this was like the deli subs we grew up eating. If you're from up north and are looking for a hero or roll like back home, keep looking. This isn't it. read more

Came back- had the same sandwich- it was good. Wish they would toast it on request but they said they could not do so. Oh well.

The food and service is fresh and friendly. Their club salad rocks and their Supreme cookie will change your life

Great subs. Great people! Love the Ami and the Italian chicken. Raviolis for the holidays are amazing and just a good family owned business.

This one is on our "local finds" list. This deli is in the same plaza as the excellent "East Meets West" resto. We were going to go there but decided to check this one out instead. And we were glad we did because they make tasty sandos. We enjoyed the cold one more than we did the meatball version. But both hit the spot. We gotta go back soon... read more

Nice little Italian deli. Pretty authentic...I had to look up what some items were! The staff was friendly and helpful with just a touch of impatience for those of us with questions. I got the Ami. It was tasty. They had a fun selection of chips with some unusual flavors I hadn't seen before. We enjoyed that. The place was very busy. read more

Vanelli's Deli - My Ami sandwich and chips - Delis Near Me - Germantown, Tennessee

Great deli!!! Popped in for lunch and we were definitely happy with that decision. There is some inside seating and some outside seating, not a lot of either though so it's possible you could end up there with no place to sit but we had a few places from which to choose so, clean living I guess. There were a few people ahead of us in line but the line moved pretty quickly. Employees were friendly and able to answer questions we had. We got an Ami, a spicy roast beef, an Italian sausage grandmama style, and a club. The sandwiches were all very good and there was a good selection of chips as well. I'll definitely come back here to try some more of the menu items. read more

Wonderful local Italian business with great food and friendly staff, it's a special place in Germantown!

So good! They make a great muffaletta, and everything else I've tried has been delicious. Pasta salad is yummy. The place is on the smaller side, and gets a little busy, so I try to eat and scoot so they can turn the table. There is outside seating, but it's still a little chilly right now. I look forward to that when it warms up. read more

Just a nice, a-ok sandwich place. The workers are really friendly and are happy to help people out. I've never been so they recommended me their most popular sub and said usually people work their way down the list as they return. Unfortunately, I'm not a big sandwich person so I can't see myself coming back. Again, friendly service, but the food was just ok. Ok: - Sandwich: #1 The 'Ami Disliked: - Dessert: Cannoli read more

Great sandwiches made the way you want. Laid back atmosphere where they treat you like family. If you want a quick lunch this is the place.

We tried the American Hoagie and whatever Italian Sub is #2 on their menus. Both were great the service was also good. If there were any take aways that may be negative was that it was a little cramped, but that's what I expect from a traditional style Italian deli. I wouldn't hesitate to go back and the bread used was flawless. Good stuff, I'll be going back. read more

Have been a fan ever since I've ever been here years ago. Typical family owned and run restaurant. Food is excellent; meats are either from the hill in St Louis or from Italy. Bread is homemade and outstanding. PI is my favorite sandwich. Have never been disappointed. read more

Stopped by for lunch. Amazing that after living in Germantown for ages first time we came in for a meal. They have a fantastic selection of sandwiches. The ambiance is pleasant and the staff is very friendly. The service is great. We will be visiting more often going forward. Also, the parking is convenient!! This is like a well kept secret in the fantastic Germantown community read more

I wish I could give a better review but I can't. I came here twice for their vaunted meatball sandwich and was both times disappointed. I'm from NJ so flame if you will but here are my thoughts. First, the bread is not very good. It tastes like the bollards from Kroger which have none. Then they slice it all the way through instead of part way to create a pocket which keeps all the sauce (gravy) in. A proper meatball sandwich should have the option of melted mozzarella or provolone cheese on top and be wrapped in aluminum foil for takeout. That would step up their game. An Italian sausage sandwich with peppers and onions would be great. This is like Pete and Sam's Italian. Not even close to what others in the area are doing. The people who work there are really nice so I gave them three stars. read more

Great Italian food! Very friendly people. They make you feel like family. Try every thing on the menu. Start with the meatball sandwich. Bring back memories when my grand mother made meatballs. You also need to try the pasta. Will go back any time I am in that part of town. read more

You have to have the meatball sub. This place is pretty jumping on the weekends but after a weekend workout my brother and I usually treat ourself a to a treat here. The owner is usually there and is super nice. The outside seating is perfect. Thanks for a great weekend. read more

Vanelli's Deli was okay but their overpriced as hell! They wanted me to pay $20 bucks for a okay size sandwich, chips, and a drink! It's just a sandwich dude! I've never paid that much for a value meal! This place is a joke read more

You know it took me nearly 3 years to make it here? I guess my only excuse is that sandwiches don't get me all that excited. I feel like I can make a sandwich at home, and I can even pack my own lunch to take with me. When I go out, I want something I can't easily do at home. Boy was I wrong about this place! I just had half of the PI, (I don't even remember what that stands for), and it was unlike any other sandwich I could compare to. It was excellent and I can't wait to have it again. Btw, a half was plenty for me, and I'm a big eater. Oh, and it was fairly expensive, but the quality did justify that for me. read more

SINGLE IN THE FOURTH OFF OF A BROKEN BAT JUST CLEARING THE 2ND BASEMAN'S HEAD! My brother in law and I grabbed dinner here the other night as he was passing through Memphis on his way to a ministry conference in Louisville, KY. I have never been here before so I wanted to give it a try. The place is nice and clean, and the staff is very friendly and helpful. We showed up at 6:30 pm (they close at 7:00 pm) and so they were out of a couple of items. We split a FULL baked chicken sandwich and each got a side (he got a side salad and I got a side pasta salad). The sandwich was good, and there is a small canister of Italian seasoning on the table in case you want to give your meal a punch. The sandwich was hot and tasty, and the pasta salad had great flavor. I'm very glad we went here, and I'm looking forward to the next time. read more

That meat tho.... Whew I could overload on cured meat and garlicky mayo at this place. The Panino Imbottito is so rich but SO tasty. When I want an Italian cold cut sammie I will be coming to this little place. The dining area is small and dated. The clientele are regulars. The guy who owns the shop will come out and chat with you and make friends. The service is quick because, well it's not that busy. And that is just how I like it! I have yet to try the hot side of the menu, but somehow I don't feel like I ever will. This is a cold cut spot. I won't ever get a side or a drink from here. They have tap water in a pitcher on the counter which seems weird. But hey...I just get my yummy meaty meat sandwiches and go :) read more

Good neighborhood sandwich shop in Germantown, TN...I go here probably once a month and have really never been disappointed. I would highly recommend the tuna salad salad....yes over a bed of romaine lettuce not on the bread. Also below are a few other things that make this family owned restaurant worth the visit. 1. The smoked brisket sandwich with homemade mayonnaise ( this is an absolute must and my favorite!) I believe only served on Saturdays 2. Spicy slaw is awesome 3. Pimento and cheese ...some of the best Try this place out it is great....do not expect fast service. This is a very mom and pop establishment and they like to talk to you while they make your food. read more

I stopped in here for lunch last week and had the Italian's chef salad which was filled with smoked turkey, salami, tomatos and cheese. The dressing was great- homemade Italian. The salad would have been a little better with homemade croutons but the salami in the salad was great. Next time I want to try the Italian Bologna with Chow-Chow and some of the take home ravioli. This is a nice neighborhood, family owned deli in the heart of Germantown. It was busy at lunch time and you could tell that the people who were there must frequent it often as the owners seemed to know them. read more

Wow. First and last time visit. I've been looking for a great Italian "sangwich" since I came to Memphis four years ago. I thought, Vanelli's Deli? How could I go wrong? A few pieces of meat and cheese in a 12" "Subway" roll for $12.00? Fool me once. read more

I found this restaurant and realized it was local, and I always try to support the local Memphis businesses and I didn't know many good deli restaurants at the time and I got the PI because I love garlic, and that sandwich was very delicious. It had a very good creamy taste from the garlic mayo but you could still taste the meat despite how strong the garlic was. I loved my experience but sadly I'm not in the area enough to eat there often, though if you're nearby I'd recommend this as a place to stop at for sure. 5/5. read more
