My family and I have driven by this cafe numerous times over the past several years. An errand took me to the area, I wasn't in a particular hurry, the Yelp reviews were pretty decent, and so I thought that I'd drop in to pickup an early lunch to take home. The lunch special was a chicken quesadilla with a side item. I decided on the pasta as a side. Both were delicious, and well-prepared. If available, I would order both again. I decided to also get a reuben with extra sauerkraut. The sandwich was rather small for the price. If there was extra sauerkraut, I couldn't tell. The meat was chewy and had a slight amount of gristle in it. At least the rye bread was fresh and flavorful. I chose "cucumbers" as the side item. That consisted of a tasty tomato/cucumber/cheese/sweet dressing mix. Too bad that this eatery doesn't bother to remove the stems from the tomatoes. (When I worked in a restaurant many years ago, that was de rigueur.) I would probably not order either again. The ordering process was disjointed. I believe that there were at least two new employees there, trying to get their footing. There were four people behind the counter, and I was the sole customer inside. I think that the manager and chef were the only productive employees, as it took some time for me to get my food. If you want iced coffee, they put ice into your container, and then they instruct you to pump hot coffee from their self-serve containers in the dining area! I won't make that mistake ever again. (I'm guessing that it's highly unlikely that they keep ice cubes made of coffee on-hand.) There's limited outdoor seating located in front of the entrance. If you enjoy the ambiance of a parking lot and adjacent busy roadway, knock yourself out. This was my very first visit here, and it was a bit underwhelming. All in all, three-and-a-half stars, rounded down to three stars. I like supporting independent businesses, so I might return again, if only just to try other menu items. Be aware that each sandwich and side will set you back about $15.00. The total for my order was over $35.00, including tax. read more

Wonderful coffee shop/lunch stop. This was my second time. The service is top notch. Genuine, loving and kind. The server who took my order made my day. The music was perfect and made me realize they are out for the Greater purpose and good of the Lord. I had the white chocolate peppermint mocha which was delicious. I must start off by saying I was completely Wowed by the customer service here! I was immediately greeted not only by the workers but welcomed but an amazing aroma of meats and breads. I ordered the lox and bagel and it was BOMB! There was plenty of cream cheese and lots of onions which I Love! The salon was A1. There is a little sitting area out front to enjoy the perfect weather. Everything is good. My favorites are the lox and bagel.... Best ever. The French toast is off the charts and then when you need to scale back the calories, the Strawberry/chicken salad is delicious. I love this place so much I wish it would be open Sundays. We frequent it for brunch... which they serve till 11am on Saturday. We always get the same thing... hubs gets lox and bagel .... Their coffee and Latte's put Starbucks to shame which is a tall order. I'm not a breakfast person but their breakfast burrito is amazing! Employees are great and the place is always clean. Yummy yummy in my tummy ! I got the spa salad and the Greek wrap and it was amazing, great for brunch. Pretty large portions as well. I came here Friday (Jan 22nd) during lunch rush and wow! The customer service, coffee, and food were amazing still. I got the Duke (espresso, in-house cowboy coffee & milk). First off, the ladies in there know their way around customizing and asking you questions how you like your coffee. The Duke was a swift kick in the face with the espresso right off the bat but the cowboy coffee that you taste smooths RIGHT over. My best friend had the Turtle (which is every sweet thing you can think of) and surprisingly the espresso smoothed over the sweetness. Overall, the coffee is perfectly balanced whether or not you like it sugarless or full of sugar. I also had the Lox & Bagel - very generous amount of cream cheese and salmon lox! Love the atmosphere, service, and food - definitely can't wait to come back. read more

My wife and I tried this for the first time this morning. It was busy, but there were still a few tables to choose from so no wait. The food, an Italian sandwich and bacon/eggs breakfast came out quickly, less than 10 minutes. The bread is made fresh and other ingredients were also fresh and quality. Everyone was happy working here and friendly. The coffee was the best part! We had the Cowboy drip coffee and it was smooth with no hint of bitterness. Abundance of flavor with dark chocolate notes. Since the economic downturn in 2008, coffee shops have become a sort of proxy office space for mid-level managers and executives in "transition". ("Transition" is the human resources word for "unemployed but looking.") Among those in "transition", it's an unspoken avocation to seek out the best places to go, hang out, work the phones and laptops/tablet computers and look for the next gig while getting hopped up on joe. Java Cafe is--in East Shelby County--one of two really good spots where those in executive purgatory can go to be in "transition". The coffee is good--better than what you get at the mermaid. There's a wide selection of breakfast items. They cook eggs and omelets to exacting specifications. (I heard one order that had a list of specs as long as the assembly instructions for a Stinger missile.) The only drawback--and this is why the four-not-five stars: no wifi. Dudes! Embrace that you're purgatory for the professionally lost. Get wired. But for breakfast or mid-morning meetings, fantastic off-the-beaten-path place to get together. read more

Java Cafe is one of my favorite places to grab a quick lunch. I've introduced it to several of my friends. I had a bad experience there yesterday. I was meeting my sister for lunch. I got there about 7 minutes early so I went in and sat at a table for 2 to wait for her. A guy behind the counter screamed at me "you have to get in line and order some food". I replied to him that I was waiting on someone. He threw his hands up in the air and with a snarl on his face he started eyeballing the people in line. After this incident I left. I don't recall a sign posted indicating this isn't allowed. So just know if you get to Java Cafe earlier than the rest of your party you have to wait outside for them to arrive. read more

My husband introduced me to this place and it's excellent. It's a small coffee shop in a strip shopping center. I love that it's locally owned, and most if not all of the food is made fresh daily on site. I was there during the holiday season, and the owner gave us a taste of his fresh cranberry salad, which was delicious. I've also tasted the butternut squash soup, which was smooth, flavorful, and fresh tasting. My favorite is their chicken salad on the house-made raspberry wheat bread. It's a large serving and very filling. There's no wifi (on purpose), so it won't be your go-to for getting work done, but it's a great lunch spot, meeting place or hangout if you like coffee. This was my go to spot because I could get fresh breakfast anytime I wanted to even at 1 in the afternoon. Unbeknownst to me they have taken the basic approach as other places have other than your typical Waffle House or IHOP and stopped serving breakfast after a certain time. Every time I find something good it changes. I'm sure they had their reasons I mean everyone does but now I have to find another place that serves fresh breakfast during their open hours. read more
