WOW!!! Let me start off with saying that their bread is PHENOMENAL. I've been on the hunt for a good NY type sandwich/hero for almost a decade here in Memphis, to get a taste of home (Brooklyn, NY) and nothing has really come close. The bread out here in Memphis is absolutely terrible which ruins the taste of many subs. NOT AT THIS PLACE!! Their bread comes from New Jersey par baked and they finish it off fresh in store. I got the New York sub with added banana peppers and it was SUPERB. My husband got a hot sub uomo arrabiato and it was also lovely. The staff was very very nice and helpful. Answered every question we had and were more than eager and happy to help. Price is very fair for the amount of food you get especially. I am beyond glad we finally had a chance to stop by here and try it out today. It was great. The place inside is large with ample amounts of seating. Parking right outside on the street or at the Gilmore apartments lot directly behind the deli down McLean. Overall I give this place a 12/10. Superb all around. HIGHLY recommend. read more

Really used to love this place.. The bread used to be what separated them from other sandwich places. Now it's some cheap tasting bread that's bland and gets soggy easily especially if you get the meatball sub which used to be my favorite. And for the price it's just simply not worth it ($22 for a "large" sub). Go a minute down the street to Kwik Chek and you'll get a better sandwich for $8. Hope this place finds their way again because now it's just a rip off. read more

Positive: The bread they make the sandwiches on is the bomb. Extremely fresh, tasty, bakery bread- this elevates any sandwich. Negative: sounds picky, but I'm picky... the slicing of the beats is not consistent. Sometimes you get beautifully sliced thin meat and sometimes you get the unpleasant texture of way to thick slices. Otherwise I really love this deli. Consistency is key. I prefer thin slices on my sandwich. I love a good bakery French bread roll. I'm so excited they don't use store bought sandwich buns or rolls. For me this makes a world of difference. Love the sandwiches and olive spread. This is my favorite sandwich shop in Memphis. Definitely a 5 star shop.

Fino's makes the best sandwiches in Memphis, if you ask me. I love the Cajun turkey sandwich and my boyfriend always gets the speziato. We're always more than satisfied with our food. The shop is a humble place, with pizza paddles adorning the walls, but the overall ambiance gives "deli in the big city". Can't recommend this place highly enough. THE BREAD!!! WHYYYYYYYYYYYY?! WHY DID YOU DO THIS? The bread is gross now. La Baguette is like right there, go get some decent bread. I can't stand to order my favorite sandwich now. I really missed the old Fino's so we went there for lunch on Saturday. The menu was a little more limited from the original but place was pretty much tv same. I miss the choice of bread. They only have one kind now. Be ready to do a lot of biting - bread is good but oh boy is it hard and chewy! Had the Fino and Acquisto. As you can see from the pics you get more meat with the Acquisto -- that part was a bit disappointing considering price was same for both. The pepper shooter decent but not sure that I would pay $1.50 again for it. All in all glad I got my Fino's fix and I'm glad it still exists. But please bring back the soft bread for us old folksz read more

OK, so I am not going to let this be a critique of the grandmaster Chef English because frankly I don't think he has eaten any food prepared at this location. I mean, really... everyone knows he only cooks with a pencil - as most chef's do. The original Fino's used only meats and most of the cheeses from Italy(except for the Provel, a cheese mostly known in St.Louis) their breads were consistent and perfect for each sandwich. 'Nuff said, those days are gone-girl. The new Fino's has most of the same fare that was once proffered at their former namesake and often you can find the best sandwiches in town!! That said, as of late the food has been changing almost weekly. Different meats, different cheeses, and the most noticeable changes come from the bread snafoo's. Originally sourced from a bakery in St Louis, then shipped in from New Orleans, then LaBaugette, then who knows? Todays sandwich was happily so much different then the skinny pointy ended loaves from last week! So why do I keep coming back week after week? Because of the recipes. It feels like Russian roulette sometimes but I have had some damn good sandwiches here, often the best available. I must love the suspense 'cause I get a tiny knot in my stomach as I go thru those doors wondering what we get this time... hopefully sublime, sometimes upsetting... but the potential is defiantly here! Hands down, without any exaggeration, the best sandwich I've had in my entire life. I would eat here every day if I could.

As a resident of the building, words cannot begin to describe how incredible it is to have a fantastic deli just a few flights of stairs away. After it's reopening, the menu has become more limited. However, everything that was left on the menu is truly incredible. You can really taste the love and care that goes into these sandwiches. It's more than just that, the English brothers have put a tremendous amount of effort into keeping a long lasting Memphis tradition alive. Is is the same as it used to be? No. Are you still going to get incredible food and friendly service? Absolutely. The parking may be rough, but if your in the mood for some true Italian Deli food, it's well worth it. read more

My family ate here yesterday for a late lunch after a visit to the zoo. We highly recommend Fino's. My wife and I split a sandwich that was like a muffuletta. It was very good. My daughter had the spaghetti and meatballs. It was so good. It reminded me of my grandfather's spaghetti. We had to get a take out order of the spaghetti and meatballs. The service was fast and attentive. The only thing that was missing was some tomato shooter things. Please bring them back. read more

I wish they wouldn't call this Fino's on the Hill. I got the south philly on soft bread. It came in a to go box... My first problem. The real finos would wrap it up tightly. Gave it a bland vibe. Workers looked bored. It didn't give off a grocery store old finos vibe even though we were in the same OG building. They took down the original menu and made a plastic one. Ok.. Now. To the food. It was bland. Generous amount of meats and cheese. But the BEST part was the flavor which had NONE. The tomato onion marinade was covered in Italian seasoning. It didn't really have a fresh flavorful tart taste to it like the old finos had. Please make sure if you call it the original name you have the original flavor and vibe. One of the best sandwiches I have ever had. I ordered the pen station on the harder French bread and I'm glad I did!! Love the nice crunch on the outside, soft on the inside. It's been a long (and sad) time since I was dramatically and repeatedly disappointed by a then-recently-reopened-under-new-ownership Fino's, and today I'm super happy to say I was greatly rewarded for finally working up the courage to try again. Good news: I've found another restaurant that disproves the project management triangle. Fino's from the Hill is that rare combination of good, fast and cheap. Fino's has a corner storefont on the first floor of the Gilmore Apartments. It's nothing fancy, just a casual, worn-in dining room with a ton of tables, a few grocery items and a deli case full of meat, cheese and canoli and slices of cake. I'm a big fan of their sandwiches. A half sandwich is more than big enough for a meal (and comes sliced in half - I'd hate to see what a whole one looks like). They've got a ton of sandwich options, including a changing roster of daily specials, but I like to keep it simple. Behold the Fino, the deli's namesake sandwich. The Fino, Memphis, Tenn. It's a stack of sliced salami topped with provolone cheese and black olive dressing that I usually substitue for marinated tomatoes and onions on a fresh, crusty log of bread. And the best part: a half Fino is less than $5. If you're taking the sandwich with you, be sure to grab some napkins - between the crusty bread and the dressing, they can get a little messy. I'm on a string of five-star reviews and had pretty much made up my mind that I'm going to get really critical...just for balance, right? Can't help it. I love this place. I love the place, I love the sandwiches, I love the pepper poppers. Even the oil they swim in is delish. This is a terrific spot for an out-of-the-way business meeting. The atmosphere's perfect for it. quiet...and your competition probably isn't anywhere near here. My fave: a half Agosti with a pepper shooter for "dessert". We were really looking forward to some good Italian food but were disappointed. The Pizza was warm in sections and hot in others, as if it had been microwaved. Floors needed sweeping, one kitchen worker entered his area blowing his nose, then did not wash his hands. The deal breaker, that caused us to walk out and decide we would never come back? 2 of us had lunch here this week. It's been a long time since I've been here, used to enjoy coming here with the folks back when. I was more disappointed than pleased overall, however, with the experience. I ordered the Penn Station sandwich... or should I say, HUGE slices of hard bread that dwarfed the meat and veggies. The sign said 'soft bread available', guess I should have gone that route. Perhaps I'm spoiled by the competitor versions... Elwood's, Jason's, etc. My associate had chicken marsala which he said was very good. Also, real disappointed in the house dressing on the salad. This place makes me so happy. I never went here before they changed owners, so I have no Old Fino's to compare it to, and I like it that way. The employees are always so friendly and efficient, and my coworkers and I love to come here for lunch and immediately feel welcomed. The New York is absolutely the best sandwich on the menu, but the Fino-letta is a close second. Yes, the bread can be a jaw workout, but it builds character. They have all kinds of flavors of Zapp's chips, most of which I have never seen anywhere else, ever (Spicy Cajun Craw-tators!) and the desserts are also all stellar. I have read criticism of the reopening in various places, but wanted to see for myself. Seems like Kelly English has a lot of haters. We got an acquisto and a veggie with pasta salad and a side salad. Sandwiches wrapped in paper - salads in plastic containers (better than before when they were in a styrofoam bowl with plastic wrap) take out was in a paper bag Bread fine, pasta and salad good- the only thing different was there was enough meat on the acquisto to make another sandwich- looks like the English empire is taking note of all of the criticism and really trying to get it right I tried finding a major difference from what the food was like before- nothing I could complain about- Still pretty darn good! read more

Fino's has been a favorite lunchtime spot of mine for years now, and Thursday's experience reminded me why. As always the expert staff was friendly and knowing, not to mention incredibly quick. The Italian green salad with house made croutons, salami and extra onion tomato vinaigrette is a must have. The Penn Station sandwich, loaded with turkey, pepperoni, peppers and provolone rocked my socks off. That bread really makes the sandwiches there, giving the perfect combination of crunch and chew. I can never finish a full salad and sandwich at Fino's, but it's all good, I know when I go in for lunch that I don't have to think about dinner later. If you haven't visited this midtown gem, go. I was excited when Fino's was opening back up and impressed that Kelly English was taking on the job. However, if you want to say you're not going to change anything and that Fino's will be the same as before you need to do that. This is not Fino's, and I will tell you why: 1. I got the Penn Station sandwich which was a staple of mine before they closed. The bread, while it looks the same, was hard as a rock. Not even the good crunch on the outside and soft on the inside. I got a jaw workout eating my sandwich. I will say there was a decent amount of meat, but the tomato onion dressing was bland and didn't provide any extra flavor like it used to. Also, explain to me why my sandwich came in a to go box. Old Fino's simply wrapped the sandwich. Now I understand why so many people were probably complaining about not having enough filling on their sandwich. You substituted quality and quantity for packaging that wasn't needed and simply wasteful. 2. I got a small pasta salad. Back in the day I was obsessed with their pasta salad. Got it every time I went. However, whatever they were passing off as pasta salad today was bland and smushy. There were three or so black olives in the mix and no seasoning what so ever. It was bland and disgusting and the only reason I ate it was because I paid for it and was hungry. Also old Fino's they gave my pasta salad to me when I got my sandwich. When I got my snadwhich I was confused and asked where it was, to which to girl behind the counter told me oh it's in the cooler with the other groceries. The cooler that is not labeled. In a container that I know is what most of that price I paid was paying for. Guess you substituted good food for pretty packaging... again... 3. The staff was rude and not at all helpful. The girl taking my order could barely do that, and didn't tell me where to get my cup for my drink. I would understand this if you were 6 months in to a reopen instead of 1-2. Old Fino's didn't run like this and if you want to keep the name and say it's the same then help your customers out on where to get their drinks, and apparently sides as I found out later in my experience. Needless to say, I won't go back, and maybe that won't hurt his bottom. Kelly English would have to do a major overall and convince me to go back to a place that instead of calling Fino's should be called Fino's Lite. read more

Horrible service!!! After waiting 20 min for a sandwich we asked about our order and all they can say is "oh sorry" like seriously. It's just a sandwich...not an elaborate meal. Samantha taking the order was also confused taking the order. All around a horrible experience for a sandwich where there was only 6 ppl in the place and 2 already eating. I have always loved Fino's pizza. But since the re-open, the crust is no longer thin, crispy & flavorful, but thick, doughy & too heavy! I thought they were going to keep it the same! And the italian salad comes with a "dressing" of olive oil with some pieces of tomato and onion in it. No vinegar at all, no herbs, no seasoning. This makes me sad! Finos has always been a midtown mainstay...we were told it would stay the same... If any changes are better, that's always good, but less flavor is not a good change. Definitely not "Same as it ever was." We were so excited to hear Fino's was coming back and couldn't wait to try it. Unfortunately, it was a big letdown. My sandwich was basically bread and mustard- there was one piece each of turkey and cheese and they didn't cover the whole sandwich. My husband's also had one piece of each type of meat and the dressing overpowered the sandwich. I hope these are just growing pains. I know they ran out of bread the first day and maybe they're trying to make sure that doesn't happen again with the meats. For a sandwich to be $10 and not include sides and/or a drink, the ingredients need to be generous. We came away feeling like this was a total rip-off and disappointed it wasn't like the old Fino's. read more

I just returned from picking up 2 sandwiches ($16) and couldn't believe what pitiful excuse of a sandwich I received. I am posting 2 photos below.
