We have only been customers of Laslo for a few weeks, but so far are thrilled with the customer service and quality of work. We hired Laslo after being disappointed by our previous landscaping company. When that company informed us that it would be December at the earliest before our fall cleanup was completed, I emailed Laslo asking if they could squeeze our yard into their cleanup schedule. Their truck showed up 5 hours later to take care of our yard. Called made an appointment. Day of the appointment no show, called and apparently the owner Mike completely forgot about the appointment. He came over about 30 minutes later, we discussed the project . Told him my budget and would love to see his design ideas. He immediately wanted to know how many bids he was competing against which I thought was completely inappropriate to ask me that question. He told me he would get back to me..it's been about 2 months and nothing. Even if he would have decided to do a no bid, he should have at least given me a courtesy call, but since he totally forgot about the appoint, I should have figured it would have turned out this way. I thank Mike, since the owner didn't see fit to bid, I found a landscaper who got my vision and was very reasonably priced. Don't call Mike unless you want to spend lots of money. He appears to only like large jobs. read more

Not sure what the person was thinking with the bad review? I have used James on 2 new construction projects, and everything was done perfectly and in a very timely manner. He also did a great job on the hardscape and patios! I also use him for weekly cleanups at my home and have had no problems. If we need something extra done, he is a phone call away. Laslo re-landscaped the entire yard. The work was of high quality and done quickly. Billing was often wrong (charging for service not rendered), and I had to correct. In addition, the follow-up was horrible. The owner did not return calls. He was not responsive in any way. It took 3 months of calls to get them to come back and replace dead plants. In the end, I called once more only to get cussed out by the owner. He was irate and unprofessional. I would never use again. read more

Went with James' company because they could come for a fall clean-up relatively quickly. Quoted $150/hr (3 guys @ $50/hr). James advised the job should take between 1-2 hours. I had previsouly had the yard down for ~$125 with two workers, so I was comfortable paying more to have the job done quickly as I couldn't reach my previous landscaper. The lawn admittedly looks great. Only MAJOR problem is, I just received a $700 invoice, including a $100 "dump fee" that was not disclosed. There is also debate as to whether or not his guys showed up one day, which I was billed $150 for one hour's work. (I was home at the time they say and would have known if they were there because my dog would have gone nuts barking at guys outside the window where she sits!) Who in their right mind would pay $700 for a "Fall Cleanup"? It's a residence, not a commercial property... When I called James, he gave me the run-around about the costs of doing business, paying employee insurance, etc. I'll pay him the $600 (excluding the Dump Fee), just to forget about this experience. I should have found a landscaper on referral from someone I trust. Hopefully Yelp users can "trust" this review and choose elsewhere for their landscaping needs. read more

On top of that, the yard flooded every time there was a big rain. I interviewed five landscapers to do a hardscape renovation and ended up selecting Jim Laslo. We hired his company to do removal of old sidewalks, and to replace them with brick pathways and a new brick patio, as well as to fix the drainage problems. I've been working with James and his crew for 9 months. I used to use the cheapest landscaping crews available in Hinsdale but got fed up when they would either do a bad job or I'd have an issue with the bill. I found the "cheaper" crews had little or no customer service and if you had an issue with the bill the person they would have you call didn't speak good English and nothing got resolved. My next door neighbor had the worst lawn on the block and was also using cheap landscaping until last summer when she started using Laslo. Laslo resurrected her lawn and made her place look amazing. I was reluctant to call Laslo because I thought they would be overpriced. James Laslo, the owner, met with me directly and gave me pricing that was competitive with the landscapers I was using. I made the switch and since then have been extremely happy. James is always a quick Phone or text message away. He stands behind his work and will do whatever necessary to make things right.
