We have been using Ross & Jack's for the past 4 years. The one word I could describe them with is CONSISTENT. They are there when they say they are going to be, they do what they say they are going to do, they are up front with costs/contacts and they respect your time. These guys want to give you a nice property. They are priced reasonable with like landscapers in the area. Also what we really like is that they are respective of your time. They will call if running late and if you need something done differently they will always listen to you and get back to you timely. Initially we had them do replacement planting for shrubs and added additional perennials to our flower beds. They were great and explained why the current shrubs were not taking to that area (too compacted ground which our previous landscaper did not indicate but kept replacing them with cost). They dug out the "bad" ground and replaced it and added the new shrubs (which have lasted all these years). We have used them every year since to add perennials (Mike has some great ideas) and when our local lawn mowing person had medical issues we worked with Mark, the owner, to have them take on managing the property... mowing, mulching, weeding, spring and fall clean ups. Their crew is very good. If there is something we specifically need work on we just email Mark and he makes sure the crew takes care of it. If I could leave zero stars, I would. My wife and I reached out to Ross and Jack Landscaping for a straightforward spring clean-up and weekly mowing. What followed was two weeks of Mark, the president, trying to upsell us into a sweeping overhaul of our yard -- framing routine landscaping as urgent "must-dos" to get our house in "working order." In a group chat with my wife and me (which I'm happy to share), Mark pivoted from answering our questions about the quote to bragging about being a "rich guy," lecturing us on wealth, and suggesting we take out a loan to fund more landscaping work with him. That is not a quote I'm paraphrasing for effect -- that is what the president of this company put in writing to a young couple who asked him to mow their lawn. The breaking point: Mark insisted it was mandatory that we let him rip out every bush along the back of our house. When my wife politely asked whether she could try to save them herself this spring and have that line removed from the quote, his response was an attitude shift followed by "I quit" -- at 10 p.m., the night before our $3,000 spring clean-up was scheduled to begin. He has not responded since. I'm a small business owner myself and I do not enjoy writing this. We had a multi purpose project. We wanted a patio in our side yard. We need a dry well put in to solve a plumbing issue and we wanted some new bushes to deter our puppy from jumping the fence. Was out looking for a company to trim some way overgrown bushes in front of the house , was refereed to this company by a friend of a friend . They came out told them what I WANTED done , and agreed on a price ( since then found out I way over paid ) and then waited for 2 weeks for someone to finally show up to do the work . I was not home but My daughter and Mother were . The crew did the work and left , no letting them know they were done , I was told I would have to pay the crew CASH , but now I see they accept credit cards , but they left and I guess Michael was gonna stop by later to see their work , get my opinion on it and collect payment seeing how this was the first(and last) time using their service . So a week or so goes by , no phone calls , no emails , no stop by, nothing . I did get a bill in the mail just saying payment is due upon receipt , no note asking how they did , how does it look , how I am with it nothing ... Payment was made and mailed out Immediately , The last thing I need is someone bugging me for payment on a very bad service rendered. But today I get a " Thank you " card from them , a little too late for that . I asked for the two bigger bushes to be cut back to the divider along the yard and where the bushes were , They weren't, they still hang over by about 2 feet past where I wanted them cut too. The same was with the two by the sidewalk , , I wanted them behind the pavers so the sidewalk would be clear to walk , Again , they weren't still over the sidewalk in anyone's walking way . They also trimmed along the house were some of the taller bushes, were rubbing against the house and wires , what was done was a hack job and not even made to look decent. Now some people I have read reviews about this company from other customers , who swear they are the greatest company since Edward Scissorhands , Sorry I do not agree or would even refer them , It seems they care more about the big dollar yards than smaller yards and trimmings . It is like once they get your money , they are gone , don't care about their work or the customer's requests, and are never coming back ... ever . We 100% got it right with Ross and Jack's. The time came for a major landscaping job. It entailed over 110 plantings, front yard to back. The backyard cement walkway and patio needed to be removed and redesigned. We knew it was going to be a big financial commitment so we wanted to get it right. I can't say enough about the CHARACTER of the people who work for Ross and Jack's. The other day, my parents in Elmhurst (in their late 70s and early 80s with significant health problems) were outside trimming their bushes on uneven ground and struggling. One of their employees was working across the street and offered to help when he was done with his current work. He came over and finished the other half that my parents hadn't done yet in 5 minutes - it took my parents over 30 on the side they did. When my mom called to tell me the story, she was crying she was so overwhelmed with gratitude at his kindness and generosity. When I told her to call the company and tell them what their employee had done for them, it took her literally 30 tries because she kept crying so hard she had to hang up before leaving the message. I wish I could mention that man by name here, to give him the proper credit he deserves, but my parents never got his name. I can only hope R&J share this review with him. Thank you, sir, truly. Last fall we were searching for a landscaping company to help us with a pretty big landscaping project. The project included backyard landscaping, cleaning up and creating flower beds along the border of the backyard, planting 10 arborvitae's and 2 hydrangeas that we provided, front yard landscaping, planting over 60 shrubs and trees that they provided throughout the yard, and installing about 1 ton of outcropping stone throughout the yard as well. It was certainly a big task, and Mike and his team were able to squeeze our project in before the end of the season. Mike was very quick with communicating making it easy and he was very knowledgeable with making suggestions about which plants would be best for our project. At the same time, they were very accommodating to the type of plants we wanted installed as well. A few years ago I lost me local landscaper who primarily focused on grass cutting and weeding. After trying multiple landscaping companies, I found my front yard turning yellow from the dandelions and back yard turning purple from the Creeping Charlie entering from the surrounding areas. Mark Seraphin received my request through Angie's List. He said he would come out. He later left me a message saying he "did a drive by and we aren't going to be able to help you". Considering most of the work was in my back yard, he was obviously not being truthful. Their website advertises free estimates, which they refused to do. Mr. Seraphin stated in a response to my review on another platform that I had a time limit for when the work should be done. That is false. We never had a conversation. He's just covering for refusing a free estimate after he decided he didn't want to be bothered. I spent thousands using a better company and the work is fantastic. They may cost a little more, but are absolutely worth it. I've hired the typical "mow and blow" guys who just do the deed without thinking about it, and Ross & Jacks are not like them. I hired them to clean up the disaster another landscaping company left my lawn in and it has already recovered thanks to their work. These guys pull weeds - most guys won't do this. If your yard is waterlogged, they will assess the situation and come back later if they need to (not just mow the soggy lawn leaving muddy tracks). They take care of the planting beds that others won't touch. It's also the little things - they see a bare patch, they sprinkle seed starter without even asking. By hiring these guys you basically hand over the keys to your yard, and they take care of it as if they were the ones living there. We had an issue where our driveway was retaining water (we have a drain and a well). Mike came out and took a look. He found that the pipe was broken and wasn't really draining that well into the well. His team laid a pipe down, regraded our yard and put in an overflow that drains outflows to the end of the yard. They put down sod and the yard looks great now! Super helpful and helped us troubleshoot issues that cause lots of damage and come up with a solution that dealt with out problem once and for all.
