Several years ago, the concrete on two stairways to our home along with the driveway began showing some cracks. We got a few quotes for replacement, and were disappointed by the cost to redo an underwhelming design. If we were going to invest significant dollars, why not get a more interesting plan using pavers? A few more estimates revealed that design ideas had to come from us..."tell us what you want". Finally, we were referred to Nathan Filip at POE in Elmhurst. After 1 meeting with Nathan and Kevin, we were presented with renderings which were nearly perfect. Their design used 3 different stone types which gave our mid century home an amazing transformation. Every stair included low voltage lighting as did the tiered flower beds. Midway through the project, I decided that I was not happy with the 10 pallets of pavers which were going to be used on the stair landings and driveway. I emailed Nathan who called me within 5 minutes, and was at our home 15 minutes later. After a 30 minute discussion, and looking at a catalog, a new stone was chosen. The new pavers were delivered on the next work day, and the installation continued. I can't say enough good things about the installation crew. They were punctual, polite, neat, fast, efficient, and seemed to enjoy their jobs. The foreman was a master craftsmen who worked harder than anyone....always pleasant in blistering heat or pouring rain. Nathan and Rick were on site often...always willing to answer our questions or provide solutions. They installed our new light fixtures and even added an outdoor counter and pizza oven. I got hosed by these guys. I reached out in March. I wanted irrigation, landscaping, and lighting. They communicated ok, but they move so slow. All along I was telling them that I wanted this done before pool season. I already have the pool and patio (the hard stuff). I wanted to get the finishing touches with plants, lights, and the irrigation. Took weeks to get a design that you have to pay for ($500). All along I said I had $25k budget and they kept telling me they could make it work. Then after we settled on the design they said they had to get a quote for the irrigation (they outsource it), that took another three weeks. Then another three weeks to get the estimate which came in at $39k. Way over budget. They tried to get me to do it in pieces some this year and next because it was so over budget. They said that they underestimated the irrigation. But that was 7k, which means they were over budget before that while all along they were leading me on that they could do the project for my budget. They said they were a bigger company with marketing, a design team, HR, etc which is why they charge a bit of a premium compared to the mom and pop shops. Then my wife wanted to just do it despite my not liking how things were going, so I was going to go with it rather than start over with another search and miss the summer. So I asked when could we start and they said mid-July. That was it. I started this with them in early March, they took forever every step of the way, then they were like this is their busy season. But mid July, the summer is over then I have to deal with that mess during pool season. Never had they told me they couldn't do it early despite me constantly asking and saying I wanted this done before pool season (mind you, it was unseasonably cold for all of May so pool season started later than normal). That was it. They lost my confidence and I felt like they were not being straight with me. Then they blamed it on the new kid I was working with and maybe it was him, but that's their problem that they didn't train him better or stay on top of him while he was learning. But at the end of the day I asked the guy who cuts my grass weekly if he could do the landscape work and he did it; and did a great job (started the next week). I found AV Lighting And Irrigation on Yelp, he did a great job and worked with my landscaper to coordinate the projects. I was done in literally three weeks. Started talking to Mondo and AV in mid May, and was completely done in mid June. Project turned out fantastic, so with the $500 for the POE design, my entire project costs $24k. So under budget. POE's value prop was I pay the premium with them because they handle everything and I get this project managed white glove project, but what I got was delay, over budget, wasted time, and a good design. But if I'm being honest I could've got a similar design from Fiverr and used Mondo and AV and would've been fine. Maybe POE would've done a great job, but they couldn't get out of their own way and they were not worth what they were charging. 24k vs 39k, and I added more sprinkler heads, and the parkway, added more landscape and pergola lights...you decide? I included the finished project photos to prove that they other guys did a great job and I'm not just blasting POE. I'm fair and I don't doubt they'd have done a good job, they dropped the ball with my project. read more

This outfit never worked for me and never will. They did a project for my neighbor and I caught them using my front lawn to unload gravel from a truck to a wheelbarrow, then cart it across my lawn. Yesterday I caught them TRIMMING TREES ON MY PROPERTY. WTF. And they mow in our residential neighborhood at 7:20 AM. NOBODY wants to hear leaf blower and riding mower noise at that hour. POE is a poorly run. Steer clear of these guys. Experience shows they're incompetent. read more

I used POE to install new sod in our front yard and parkway. They did a great job with installation and provided clear treatment instructions. However, my lawn had a fungus issue and almost all of the parkway turned brown along with several large brown patches in the main front yard after just 2 months. They would not replace the sod and would only warranty for customers that also purchase their lawn care services. Very frustrating when you spend thousands of dollars and have a terrible outcome. I expected more from this company. Thank you for the response to my review. However, the outcome of the new sod had nothing to do with the weather or watering. I informed your team of the fungus issue prior to moving forward with the installation of new sod. If they knew that fungus could continue to be an issue, why did they agree to move forward with a $3,000 installation of new sod without informing me that it could persist? Your team also committed to replacing a small corner of sod in the parkway and it's been 2.5 weeks without communication on a date to replace. Finally, your offer to provide solutions was for me to fertilize the lawn and then apply a fungicide. It is clear your goal was to install the sod and move on. Any issues after that are up to the customer to resolve. read more

We just moved to Elmhurst last year. After interviewing a number of "recommended' options for landscaping (we have a new house with no landscaping at all), we choose POE. Kevin and Nate have been really nice to work with so far, and have really good ideas. I'll update this when our plants go in and they build our deck. As some of the reviews note, they can be delayed in getting back to us at times, due to a heavy workload. That said, they have been very reliable and knowledgeable about all things "green". We also hired them to take care of our lawn, and Matt Cook and company have done a much better job with edging and clean-up than the landscaper we had last year. read more

The crew did an amazing job for a reasonable price. To top it off, I had a problem with a past landscaping crew not finishing what I hired them to do. So I was skeptical when I hired Matt and his guys to come out for a spring cleaning. I told Matt about my past experience with the other company. Just an update. They replaced several plants that didn't make it and replaced a tree (it didn't have foliage when the planted it and it turned out that it was the wrong kind of tree.) True to their word, they covered all costs of replacement. I have used their lawn cutting service over the past season. They did a great job. Edge trimming, bagging all clippings and leaf debris. I frequently get compliments on how well the lawn looks. Matt Cook and Kevin Barnes were great to work with. I highly recommend this company. read more

We were really excited when we found Premier Outdoor Environments online. Their website was beautiful and really looked like the company we wanted to go with for building our backyard patio. I submitted an inquiry online to request a free consultation. After a week of not hearing back, I called and left a voicemail with the company requesting a consultation. We just moved to the Glen Ellyn area from the city of Chicago + our front and back yard landscaping needed some MAJOR cleaning up and help before the winter months. The resident who lived in the house before us was very into gardening and there are SO many perennials in the front and back yards, large trees, overgrown bushes, etc. and all of the landscaping had gotten very overgrown and out of control since she had passed away about a year or so before we bought the house. With this being our first house and yard we knew we needed to hire a landscaping company for a fall clean up + hopefully hire that same company in the spring to help transform our backyard and take out certain plants / help us with our grass in the backyard since many parts of the yard do not receive a lot of sun, etc.... We could not be happier with the services we received from POE for our fall clean up. We were out of town the entire weekend before the Monday they came and firewood had been delivered in our driveway blocking off a lot of room in the driveway and making it a lot harder on the crew to get thru the side fence gate to the back yard + the guys didn't complain or say a word about it - they just unloaded their equipment and got right to work! The extremely hardworking crew got to work quickly and efficiently in the back yard removing all of the leaves and cutting back all of the perennials -- I wasn't home when they started on the back yard, but when I got back I was shocked at how amazing the large back yard looked in only a couple of hours! I felt so bad that they had to lug the large barrels full of leaves up over their heads to get past the firewood, but they didn't say a word about it and did an absolutely amazing job on our back and front yards. When we got back into town Sunday night our front and back yard was absolutely covered with leaves you could hardly see any ground whatsoever - now you can see all of the grass, all the edges are trimmed up and look so clean, all of the ugly dead perennials are cut back for winter and we didn't have to bag up 20+ bags of leaves ourselves and spend hours and hours of our time doing so. The fall clean up was worth every penny and more! POE went above and beyond and we have 100% found a landscaping company we will use for the rest of our lives! We can't wait to have them come back in the spring and help us transform our space! read more

We'd been on the fence with landscaping for more than 5 years, not sure what we wanted to do, but we finally pulled the trigger with Premier. For us, this was a big decision, and we needed to feel we were working with someone knowledgeable, intelligent, talented, and trustworthy. We got all that and more from Premier. In our case, we didn't know what we wanted to do. Kevin Barnes provided ideas and was collaborative in the process. We never felt talked into anything. She also worked within our budget, and adapted her design so that we would feel comfortable with the budget and work being done. Kevin really *cares* about plants. She was wonderfully instructive about taking care of our new acquisitions. Kevin is truly an artist--she has a keen eye for design, as well as an outstanding knowledge of plants and their needs. Her plans on paper looked great, but the actual finished work exceeded our expectations. We took all her suggestions and we have a beautiful yard, not to mention renewed curb appeal that has added to the value of our home. She is We couldn't be happier. Kevin was also an efficient manager--keeping her work crew on time and on track. What would have taken me an entire month of Sundays, Premier's crew did in one day. They landscaped the side of our house, the back, cleared out weeds, mulched. Premier has a polite, diligent, and hard-working crew. We have always had a lot of problems with our grass in the backyard because we have a lot of trees that dont give it a lot of sun or rain. Then POE stepped in and performed a miracle.
