From the first project to the last, Cutters has done an amazing job. The first project was to remove the old, uneven flagstones that were pretending to be a patio. Austin, the owner, told us where we could go to see samples of pavers and then helped us design a new patio and retaining wall. A section of fencing had to be removed to get to the area and a drain gutter down spout had to be extended and buried. He even, on his own volition, put the fence back every evening so that our dog could have the use of the yard. When finished, the crew replaced a very large, heavy swing. (They do that little bit extra.) The patio was finished five years ago and it is still looks wonderful. The second project was to plant large (12 ft.) pines in the back yard. Again, the work was done efficiently and well. The ruts that were necessarily put in the surrounding yard by the heavy equipment, were filled and reseeded beautifully. Again, the fence had to be taken down and put back. This also was done well. The next time we called for help it was to have four rather large Arborvitae moved from an area where they were doing poorly. This was two years ago and they are all doing well in spite of their size when they were moved. This spring, we decided to have the back yard re-sodded. It had become a weed patch with numerous animal holes, just the thing to break a leg in. This project entailed, spraying the existing yard to kill the creeping Charlie and everything else, then removing the dead top, putting down new top soil, and then the new sod. Again, at his own suggestion, Austin accommodated the dog by placing construction fencing around the deck so that he could still go out and enjoy the smells. (The dog, not Austin.) In all the jobs, the work was excellent and the clean up was great; this included pressure washing the residual dirt from the driveway. His crews are personable, efficient, and helpful. Austin always returns phone calls and emails and is a real pleasure to work with. I would highly recommend him to anyone who wishes any kind of landscape work done. read more

First off, I've been using the same landscaper for the better part of 18 years and once I find someone good, I stay with them forever. Recently, I found myself in need of a new landscaper and someone (who I value their opinion) recommended Cutter's. From the first phone call with Austin the owner, it was clear he was a seasoned veteran and his only concern was making sure I walked away a satisfied client. When we met in person, he and I walked the entire property to ensure he understood what my expectations were in each of my planting beds and promptly provided me a quote. We agreed on a date and time and to my surprise called and said he can actually start a day early. He and his team showed up on time and at times, asked that I come out and look at a bush just to make sure it was shaped to my liking. No detail was lost on Austin and his team. When the project was finished, Austin asked that we again walk through the property to ensure everything was done to my expectations. The team did an amazing job and cleaned up so well, you wouldn't have known a landscaping crew had been at my home for two days. Since completion, I've had numerous neighbors coming over to admire the job well done. Knowing I'm a very difficult customer to please, they asked, "so what did you think?". This was our first time employing a landscaper. I can tell you after several companies came to give their estimates some of which were not even pleasant to deal with. It was to our delight that we contacted Cutter's Landscaping. Austin the owner came out the next day after our call. I will have to say our front lawn was a mess with practically no lawn left and trees needing trimming. Within a day we has an estimate and a plan, when we called Austin with a couple of questions he called us back right away. We had additional question about things we forgot to ask. Austin was kind and helpful. When we agreed to the contract Austin was here a day earlier than we agreed. He is not a hand off owner, he went right to work with his crew. He was there the entire time of the project which took 2 days. You could really see he treated his employee's well and spoke to them with respect. They worked very hard and well together. There were a couple of extra things that we asked Austin to do, which was to install 2 rain barrels and remove debris that was not on the contract. He was happy to do the additional requests. While in their agreement there is no responsibility for damage to driveways, because of the heavy equipment some of our driveway crumbled away from an already patched area Austin with no additional charge to us purchased the patch material , cleaned the area and patched it. I can say that is above and beyond in my book. I cannot say more than there should be higher than 5 star rating. So Austin we are giving you a 10 star rating. This review is overdue, but Austin and his team were phenomenal from start to finish. We had some significant work done in our backyard in the Fall, including large tree and brush removal, deck demolition, landscaping, and the installation of a large patio. We are still relatively new-ish homeowners (moved to Elmhurst in 2016), and I was skeptical on costs during the estimate development phase. The reason we ultimately decided to go with Cutter's was Austin's assurance that he commits to being on-site throughout a project, and is personally available for any questions and changes throughout. I'm sure he was initially losing money on his time due to the lengthy list of questions I had upfront. As most resident's know, there are several code considerations to take into account when doing any sort of land development, and Austin was able to help us navigate with zero headache and quick approvals with the city. Starting with the end of the project, we could not be happier with the result. Austin stayed true to his word on his personal presence and availability, and made sure there were no unreasonable surprises. In the end, we actually came out slightly under the original cost estimate, to my disbelief. My husband and I have used Cutter's Landscaping for major projects around our house. One of the reasons I selected Cutter's is due to Austin's "hands-on" approach. He does the design work, and explains it clearly. He is always "on-site" with his staff as opposed to sending out persons and leaving it to them to do the work in isolation. Anytime I request an estimate, it is completed in a timely manner - as is the work! I'm always amazed how efficient Austin's team is at completing the project and doing the follow-up clean-up. Plus, the best part is the design work! Austin is a professional who knows his plantings and what will work, and what won't. I've learned (after working with a professional landscaper) that it's far better to have someone design the area to be landscaped then to leave it to what I think might work. I have relatives who simply go to a nursery and pick out what's on sale. I prefer a professional's knowledge and skill when entering into "redoing" areas of my yard. Austin and his team are wonderful. We did a pretty full makeover of our backyard, including taking out an existing patio, replacing it with a new paver patio, built in bar, firepit, all new sod, etc. Austin got to our project on schedule, and despite several challenges with weather, finished the project as quickly as possible allowing us plenty of time to enjoy the new space in good weather. Throughout the process, Austin was responsive via email and text message, and would call to explain updates that were more in depth. He had great ideas (including moving the TV off the house on to a screen wall, which was a game changer and the absolute right thing to do as it frames the space incredibly well and also opens the space across for conversation). Austin's team was friendly and considerate, and were good sports about having three very interested kids watching through the window on a daily basis. :) Would highly recommend. We worked with Cutters Landscaping for a landscaping project for the front of our home. Initially we thought we would just have them "clean up" our landscaping - however, once we met with Austin he cast a vision that got us very excited about the potential curb appeal of our home. Once seeing this we quickly wanted to move forward with the project (the CAD mapping feature that Cutters uses is great and lets you get a feel for what your project will look like before it's actually completed). Cutters was prompt with the project timing delivered during the quote process and delivered a great quality product once completed. Our first project with Austin and his team consisted of building a stone walkway and porch at the front of our home along with using massive stones to accent the side of our front facade. Along with adding a few trees and shrubs and plantings, it turned out spectacular. Austin's design totally changed the look of the front exposure of our home. Austin and his team did a great job. Austin listened to our concerns regarding water drainage from our house and our neighbors and came up with a plan to ensure our gutters were buried and that our new patio and walkway, were graded properly, as well as the yard. We also had a row of overgrown bushes removed and a new retaining wall put in. He didn't make us feel bad when we decided to hold off on putting bushes in the retaining wall until we're sure on what we'd like. Once he understood my affinity for Asian style landscaping, he outdid himself. We used Cutter's for our paver patio. Austin was great to work with. He came out, listened to what we wanted. Actually talked me out of a more expensive stone pavers because of problems which could occur. He designed up a great looking patio, shrubs, and large play area for my kids. They are upfront, tell you all costs involved, permits, etc. Some other guys gave me lower quotes, then tried to spring more costs right before starting the job. Ive called Austin out multiple times for other jobs. I will be using him to design my front yard landscaping this spring. I have even called on him for referrals for other types of projects. Cutters Landscaping has done many projects for me over the years. Our latest project was sprucing up our front yard. Austin (the owner) was great to work with on this project because he came with great ideas and stayed within my budget. Austin added a few new trees and rows of boxwoods accentuate our front porch. He also added brick pavers on either side of our walkway leading to the front of the house which adds a nice, sophisticated look. He also put in a new lighting system to highlight all of the new landscaping. Service may be fantastic once you are a customer but BECOMING a customer is a nightmare. Miserable time getting these people to respond. After numerous calls, we were finally able to get a response from Austin and schedule an appointment to come out and give a quote. Unfortunately, Austin never showed and never returned any of our repeated calls. After a week of calls, we finally gave up. I felt like we were BEGGING to give them business. Very unprofessional. If you are currently a customer, good for you (maybe). If you are not and looking for a good landscaper, I would recommend you look elsewhere. Don't waste your time with these guys. read more
