My experience with LasikPlus was nothing but excellent the entire time. I had initially gone in for a consultation and evaluative exam back in December last year, but I didn't get to going for the procedure until yesterday. Dr. Kyle Burgers went ahead and re-examined me just to make sure that there wasn't anything that had changed from the exam 6 months ago (he was the same Dr. that had intially seen me) and found it all to be perfect conditions for the procedure (note: I am myopic with astigmatism, -3.0 in both eyes). I went for the Wavelight guided laser option even though I was told I could have had the CustomVue version at about 2/3 the cost and was great candidate for that as well. I figured, this should be a one time expense, so over the rest of my lifetime, it's insignificant. And I wanted the highest probability for the best possible outcome.
On the day of the procedure they tell you you'll be in the office for 2-3 hours, and they were quite right on that. The actual surgery from entry into the room, laying down, getting some drops into my eyes, having an initial lasing done to create a flap, and then having the femtosecond laser used to complete the corneal curvature correction took maybe ten minutes. The actual lasering time for both lasers and both eyes inclusive must have been under 1 whole minute in aggregate. I remember clearly that it was 11 seconds for one eye and 9 seconds for the other on the femtosecond laser. The other laser took roughly the same amount of time per eye, so real fast. I was awake and aware the entire time, but didn't feel a thing. I just had to try and focus on a green dot the entire time. Dr. Horn was in command of the laser the entire time and able to adjust as needed.
All the staff I had the pleasure to interact with, and I say that truly as they were all fantastic at listening to and answering my questions, were very welcoming and upbeat. Stylish, too. The location of the facility is excellent, too. Super close to 355, and very easy access coming from the SW burbs. It's also located within the Oakbrook mall area, so the person or people that come with you to give you your ride back after the procedure have the ability to walk around some interesting places or get quickly to anywhere else they are interested in going. There isn't really any reason for them to wait there with you, just let them know to start coming back to get you once the staff put you into the pre-op room for a final discussion. You'll have about 20-30mins. However, if they do wait or come back early enough, they can watch you go through the procedure because it all takes place behind a large glass walled room. There are also free refreshments like coffee, hot chocolate, soda, water, and goldfish snacks available to keep you (and your ride) comfy and happy.
I just got back from one day follow up appointment, which I drove myself to, and everything looks good. I'm looking forward to seeing these folks again in about a month for my final required follow-up. The lifetime protection plan provides a nice feeling of confidence, but I am happy to know that it is unlikely that it should ever need to be used.
Right now, following all the guidance for applying eyedrops and taking HydroEye pills to help alleviate dry eye, I do not even notice anything is different...except for my awesome 20/20 vision. It's kind of funny, because I am often looking to "remove" my glasses before I apply the drops only to realize they aren't on my face anymore. My vision is already pretty crisp and will continue to sharpen up while my eye heals up completely, but it's already great. I'd say, it sort of looks like I am looking through one of those beautification filters for photo touch-up as there is a slight, but pleasant glow around most things right now that will fade in time. But I have to say, it's actually a pretty nifty side effect for the time being.
Highly recommend if you are considering laser treatment. And if you aren't, maybe you should take another look. read more
