After continuing to find Foulkes Vision online still, I felt I needed to leave a review. 1st of all Dr. Foulkes is no longer practicing since he became ill, the new Dr. Dhaliwal MD, Jasmeet S. (known as Chicagoland Eye Consultants took over Foulkes Vision Business and I give them 1 star. Their staff was horrible, no respect and lack of empathy for patients and my husband seen the new doctor and was not pleased. There will never be another Richard Foulkes MD, this doctor was so caring and loved by his patients and A+ for his staff they were so respectful and kind. Dr. Foulkes and his staff definitely deserve 5 Stars and more. But do not be fooled Dr. Richard Foulkes Business name is still there but not this amazing person Dr. Richard Foulkes. read more

I recently had lasik done at Foulkes and I can't say enough about them. Dr Foulkes spends plenty of time with you before the surgery comforting you about his experience and small talk. He shows a genuine interest in getting to know you better. The staff is A+ as well. Dr Foulkes assistant is great as well. She spent the time to get to know me and the field of work I am in, even going as far as having my favorite bands CD available and playing while my eye surgery was being done. Overall I could not be any happier with my experience and I would not hesitate at all to recommend Foulkes! read more

I had a fantastic experience with my lasik procedure. I was far-sighted and could not read without glasses. I am 34 and I have worn glasses since I was 7. Dr Foulkes is a really cool guy who makes you feel very comfortable and explains everything. He is honest about the results you will get and takes away all of the anxiety of having the procedure done. The testing is thorough and the procedure is quick. I was only uncomfortable for the first day. After that, I hardly even had dry eyes. I can now read a book in bed with dim lighting! I could not even do that with my glasses on before. I actually cried happy tears the first time! I would recommend Dr. Foulkes to anyone! read more

Just got my Lasik done last week and have been very impressed with Foulkes vision. Dr. Foulkes is professional, dynamic personality, and made me feel comfortable despite my fears of surgery. I researched quite a few places and scheduled consultations but ultimately decided to go to Foulkes because of his level of patient care! Joyce, office manager, is great, as well! The one negative was regarding how the office staff handled an issue I had as I was making payment for my surgery. I was using a FSA- which I was told would be fine- but it took several attempts and a few rude comments made by one staff member to finally get this to work. I would caution to whomever is in charge of training that the employees should be more cognizant about appearing professional- not discussing office drama or patients aloud. Overall, this was a fantastic experience and I am very grateful for Dr. Foulkes' expertise! 20:15 vision, baby! read more

From out of the past comes this review. I'm not sure on the year but let's say circa 1997 I took the family to Toronto for long weekend. Headed home on Sunday and had a local Toronto AM talk radio station on and they were doing a show on LASIK. Being myopic I was interested in the technology for possible use on me. They had this doctor on who was so interesting and so knowledgable. The fact is he practically invented modern Ophthalmic surgery. As the show went on I was stunned to find out this man had his office in Hinsdale and hell's bells I lived in Oak Brook. I made the appointments to get it done. Dr. Foulkes was even more engaging in person and we talked shop and also talked about an array of topics all of which he was seriously prepared for discourse. This is one smart man. I told him after the exam that if he could get me to 20/40 I was in. He fixed me with a penetrating gaze and said: "If I can't get you to 20/20 I won't take you." Well he looked at my tests snd said he could 20/20 me. I did the procedure and went home, napped for four hours and KAZAAAM! I could see again. It was a religious experience. Then I found out Dr Foulkes failed to get me to 20/20. I tested at 20/15. An in the park Grand Slam. My vision is still 20/15 and I'm 64 years of age. Of course I wear readers, but nothing prescription. Just Dollar Store magnifiers. Dr. Foulkes is a bespoke health care provider and you will pay a small premium to see an industry legend. Pay the two dollars. Get your Lasik from the best, or go blind like the rest. That's a little hyperbole. Are you seeing like looking through runny egg yolks? You need an appointment with the good Dr. Foulkes! It's all so very basic, go see Dr. Foulkes for your Lasik. I needed a seeing eye dog when I went to see him. I entered his reception area and grabbed the dog by the tail and swung that dog all over the room. Patients were diving for cover. Dr Foulkes intervened and asked what I was doing?I explained I was just taking a look around. I got a million of them. How many doctors do you meet in your lifetime that decades later you talk about in ways reserved for the veneration of saints? Dr. Foulkes is that Doctor, though he is a totally friendly guy who I bonded with in minutes. Oh yes Dr. Foulkes is a saint. He is just too busy to know it. He literally changed my life. read more

I had my lasik done at Foulks vision and my surgery experience was unpleasant. My surgery was rescheduled at the last minute two times which made me very nervous. I didn't meet the surgeon until the day of my surgery and felt very uncomfortable throughout for the amount of money I had invested in the procedure. I think Dr.Foulks did a nice job with the surgery, but the overall experience was unpleasant. read more

I had mine done a year ago as part of a groupon. After 1 year I still say it is the best investment I have ever made. Being able to see perfectly is priceless and I never have dry eyes or other issues that some have had after surgery. I also did various consultations before picking Dr. Foulkes and was able to see the difference in the quality of the staff as well as the overall experience. I came out with a 20/15 when i went for my followups. Thanks again Foulkes Vision!!! read more

Went there last week for an initial consultation. One of the strangest doctors office visits I've ever had, and then the "free" consultation ended up costing me $85. Relative to the cost of the eye procedures, this is nothing, but it was an indication to me that if they are willing to stick me with an $85 bill for something that was to be free, what other charges will they slip in when the final bill of several thousand dollars arrives. In their defense somewhat, after reviewing the ppw that was signed on my way in, it is mentioned there could be a fee if the visit turns into a cataract consultation. But at no point was it mentioned clearly during the visit that we have moved from a free visit to something else. I was just asked to continually look through various machines. Given that the vast majority of people over 40 have at least some negligible amount of cataract development, and by the tone of their ppw, I got the sense that prob they find a way for a majority of free consultations to become a cataract discussion and thus walk out with a bill. But prior to the bill, there was of course a lengthy chat in which I was able to squeeze in about 2 questions. 15 minutes into the wilding rambling monologue by the doctor, I thought I should have been looking around the room to see if there was another eye doctor with us that I didn't know about because clearly the tone and the vocabulary of the conversation could not have been meant for me. I felt like I needed a PhD to make any sense of it. Very little of this discussion was meaningful to the average Joe who just wants eyes fixed. He may actually be a fantastic physician/surgeon, but I don't trust him, couldn't understand him, and won't be going back to him. Sorry to be harsh but this was too odd of a visit to not talk about. read more

With extreme excitement, I can truly say I can SEE! My Lasik experience at Foulkes was awesome, from the friendly staff to the awesome results. I'm grateful for the calm but informative doctor and I'm highly recommending this place to my friends and family. read more

Awesome experience here. The staff is great and answered all my questions. Dr. Foulkes is probably the most likeable doctor I've ever met, he's informative yet casual in his dialogue and makes you feel at ease during the procedure. I had 20/15 vision and no discomfort within 24 hours after LASIK. read more

Dr. Foulkes is the best eye doctor ever. He did surgery on my father's eyes for cataracts. I'm really happy to see my father's happy reaction that he can see. His staff is amazing, at his office and both other locations one in Hinsdale and the other in ELMHURST IL. I really appreciate all he has done. If anyone is looking for an eye doctor Dr. Foulkes is the best way to go. read more

I have no idea why I took so long to write this! I received LASIK here in the spring of 2010. I used to have trouble seeing the clock next to my bed and now more than three years later I am still seeing 20/10 in both eyes with no problems or complications whatsoever. I was recommended to Dr. Foulkes by coworkers who all raved about their results and told me how they were referred by others and so forth. I actually referred my brother here and he received LASIK in the past year with similarly amazing results and no complications. (I'm working on my boyfriend currently which is probably why I thought to post this review!) The staff is friendly and professional. The prices are reasonable and upfront. I felt safe with the amount of appointments, follow ups, pre-ops, question answering, etc and the fact that they made sure to double and triple check everything. The procedure was extremely quick and painless. Dr. Foulkes and I talked about all sorts of topics that made him a blast to talk to and thoroughly distracted you during the process (and words can't describe how awesome it is to sit up immediately and be able to SEE). He even provides his patients with his cell phone number to call for any reason if you have any concerns post procedure. I really can't say enough about my experience here. It was the best money I've ever spent. This may sound like a planted rave review but honestly it's not and the 5 stars are decidedly well-earned. Thank you! read more

I had lasik done and I still can't believe how great it turned out. After using glasses for many years this is an unbelievable feeling. I was nervous during the procedure but Dr. Foulkes tries to calm you down as he walks you through the procedure. It's not just a quiet awkward moment. Highly recommend this place the guy looks like he knows what he's doing and it obviously shows. He always looks like he's happy to be there as I've seen in my follow up appointments. Top of the line service. read more

Was recommended Foulkes vision by a coworker for LASIK. After a few months of thinking about getting the procedure my fiancé and I went for it! Best decision we have made (besides deciding to get married)! Vey friendly staff (not pushy) and worked with our schedules. The doctors are geniuses. Simply put. You won't find a better place in the country to have any sort of eye procedure done. Don't wait any longer! Do it! You will not regret it and you will be very pleased going with Foulkes! I now have 20/15 vision and couldn't be happier! read more

I have been holding off for over 7 years on having eye surgery, and of course afterwards I was kicking myself for waiting so long. What a great staff, from the moment you walk in you feel comfortable, relaxed and confident you are in the right place for this procedure. I good break it down by steps, but the reality is, I would just be repeating myself! Great Staff and Great Organization! read more

Visited the office for my yearly eye exam and was extremely disappointed by the service. I arrived at 10:15 for my 10:30 appointment and did not leave until 1:20, three hours later. I spent 90% of those three hours waiting and only spent about 10 minutes with the doctor who spent the whole time talking about himself and then forgot to even give me my contact prescription. Disappointing for someone who is so highly regarded in Lasik. I won't be returning. read more

I had my lasik on Friday and couldn't be happier with my experience at Foulkes Vision Institute. I did a lot of research and went to several consultations before deciding on Foulkes. Similar to Brian S., I had a great experience with their staff. Dr. Foulkes is very passionate about what he does and was happy to answer questions. I could not believe my results, 20/15 by the next morning when I went for my follow up. My left eye has a little congestion but probably due to contact wear weeks prior to surgery and is resolving itself. He asked to see me again on Tuesday just to be on the safe side... no short cuts with Dr. Foulkes- I know I'm in good hands. read more

After having my initial LASIK consultation done at another value provider I will not name directly in this message, and leaving that place with more questions and anxiety about the procedure, I contacted my optometrist of 20 years. She recommended I get a second opinion before making a definitive decision. I researched providers on the Interwebs and ran across Foulkes Vision on Yelp! I read all the positive reviews from those that had seen Dr. Foulkes in the past and decided to make the call. I had a late appointment scheduled for a Monday evening that I had issues getting to, and Sara did a fantastic job helping me reschedule for the following morning. I went into the office and went through the no-cost consultation. Dr. Foulkes took all the time I needed to answer my questions and to explain how he performed the ZLASIK procedure. He even discussed monovision with me to help me with reading and gave me a contact lens to go with the one for my dominant eye to mimic the effect I could expect. The other place never even gave me the option. I was sold after that appointment and scheduled the procedure for two weeks later. The morning of the appointment, I had a potential transportation snafu and the office was willing to work with me to make sure I got the procedure done. Talk about helping me resolve that anxiety! Once I got it all worked out, I came in, Dr. Hendrickson checked me out once more, and I was prepped. Dr. Foulkes brought me in and talked to me through the entirety of the adjustment to keep my mind off any potential discomfort. It was over in less than five minutes. I had about three hours of discomfort, but after a pretty good sedative, I woke up at 6pm feeling great and seeing like I hadn't seen since I was nine years old. Wow! This man is affable, knowledgeable, professional, and a true gentleman! It's four days past and I'm totally enjoying the gift of normal vision with no side effects. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Dr. Foulkes! I'm so glad I saw you and am grateful to you for making this life change possible...you rock! read more
