Before any procedure she goes over the reason for that procedure, what entails in the procedure, and what is expected afterwards, all in a way that is easy to understand. I was told by Melissa that an insurance conflict was taken care of but it was not. I didn't cancel my appointment because I trusted her, big mistake. When I called her about a large bill I received for that appointment, she claims that she would never say what she said, insinuating that I am lying. I was given options to pay a cash rate but every time it came up, the cash rate got more expensive. It started at $300, went up to $350 and now the bill has been sent to collections as $400. I shouldn't have to pay anything as I was told the insurance was straightened out. If it were I would've had a $0 copay. Dr. Phillips, while nice during his appointments, will not get involved in billing issues. Apparently, he would rather just send disputes to collections, wrecking his patients credit. Furthermore, every appointment I have had here, I waited over an hour past the appointment time before I was seen. I highly recommend finding care elsewhere. read more

WARNING: Avoid Phillips Eye Center, unless you want to end up in collections over their shady billing practices. First red flag, they'll immediately ask you to give them a credit card and sign a waiver allowing them to charge you whatever they want. This is when I should have walked away. I waited 2.5 hours to be seen after my appointment. I paid the $35 co-payment on site. Apparently they should have charged me $40, but instead of a $5 dollar balance, they double-billed me another $35 copay. When I called to clarify the situation, Melissa H. was very rude and said she would not help me, and I had no other choice but to pay. I asked to speak to Dr. Phillips and she said Dr. Phillips was not interested in talking to me. A couple weeks later they sent me to collections with a $60 bill. How did a $5 balance turn into $60? Read the negative reviews and don't make the same mistake I did; find another practice. read more

I have been going to Dr. Dawn for several years and have been very happy with her care. Family members also see her. Unfortunately, during my last appointment on April 14, she told me as she entered the room that she was no longer taking my medical insurance. I had the choice of leaving or paying out of pocket. Since I was already there, I paid out of pocket. When I got home I called my insurance company. I have an Aetna Advantage Plan and also a government plan, CHAMPVA because of my veteran husbands disability. CHAMPVA said that they would cover the bill if I could provide them with a notice from the Dr. office that they were no longer accepting AETNA. I called back on April 14, April 16, April 17, April 20 and April 23 and requested that the office supply me with a statement on their letterhead indicating that they were no longer accepting AETNA. Each time I called I was told that they would send a note to the Dr. I am still waiting for the notice. read more

She did an excellent job on my 2 cataract surgeries. They're the only doctor in this day and age who doesn't send email or text reminders on appointments... and to her comment about a live person... that never happened either. This place is just horrific. You will spend the day. You will leave wondering why you stayed. I wish to God I had read these reviews before the appointment. Reviews back to 2014 with ridiculous wait times show today was not one bad day - but poor management left unchecked for over half a decade. My father has glaucoma, and is losing his sight. He has been very depressed. He cannot really read any longer so bringing a book for his day-long adventure would have been impractical. Of course the anxiety he is already experiencing, knowing his sight is going, was exacerbated by these sadistic people posing as medical practitioners. It is beyond cruel. Surgery was recommended with FOUR follow-ups. Who in their right mind would want surgery with such inefficient doctors, never mind four more appointments after of endless waiting? You will make fast friends with your fellow waiting room patrons to discover this office is double and triple booking, hoping their patients will tire and leave. Please do not go here. Please find ANYWHERE ELSE. You will be treated like the small, unimportant people this practice thinks you are. We will also be addressing this practice with the state board, Medicare, and the primary who thought this referral was a good idea. read more

When I needed cataract surgery, I went to my eye doctor and got a referral. I called them up, gave them my insurance information over the phone, and booked the appointment. They called me back an hour later to let me know I wasn't in their network. The next day I went into work and was recommended to Phillip's, who said they had received treatment there themselves. I called them up, once again gave them my insurance information over the phone and made the appointment. I came in for measurements, and then came in again a week later for "more measurements," then had to come in a week later for a third round of measurements. Three days after that, about a month after my original appointment, someone from the office called and said they had just gotten around to submitting my claims to the insurance only to find I wasn't in their network either. They said I owed them $thousands of dollars out of pocket. I said I still really needed the surgery and that we could work out a payment plan once that was settled. I got a referral to a surgeon in network, went in and got measurements taken by them. It took one visit and just under an hour. The question that needs to be asked is why did Phillip's eye center need three separate appointments, and three separate appointment charges, to do the same thing another surgeon only needed one for? The only two answers I can think of is that they are either incompetent, or they were scamming what they thought was the insurance company for multiple, unnecessary appointments. I highly recommend you get a second opinion on any procedure they tell you that you need, or better yet, go somewhere else. read more

Had chalazion removed from left eye lid in the office January 2021. Dr. B. Phillips had me pay $352. 75 up front even though I have insurance. Arrived as scheduled for this minor procedure, In which I had to wait over 1 1/2 hours before I was brought into the procedure room. Payment was requested as mentioned The procedure was done without complications. Fast forward 4 months later, my insurance paid amount owed. I was over charged $ 112.22. I have called the Bolingbrook office twice for reimbursement and was informed they will leave a note for the doctor AGAIN. Went there at 5:40 for our 5:45 appointment. The waiting room was full of people with no available seating. Luckily I asked if they were running on time. We were told they were at least 45 minutes behind. Didn't appreciate that we weren't called and told about that or that we were not even told about that when we were standing in front of them. DON'T GO HERE!!! Both times I waited well over an hour after my scheduled appointment to be seen. Dr Phillips was pleasant, however his front desk staff are the RUDEST most unpleasant people I have had the misfortune to deal with. With so many choices for medical care chose another provider. My appointment was at 4, by 6 I still had not been seen by the doctor. This was after 3 patients ahead of me left because they couldn't wait anymore. I too then had to leave so never got to even see the doctor. Apparently this a known problem, and for the doctor to willingly let his patients wait this long is unconscionable. I don't know if it is poor business skills in knowing how to create a schedule, apathy, or greed in wanting to attempt to see as many patients as possible but just unacceptable for any reason. read more

Unfortunately I can't review Dr Bryan Phillips because I never saw him. After waiting for an hour and forty minutes, including seeing people that arrived well after me be ushered back, I asked if it would be much longer to be seen by the Dr. Sure enough, there were still people in front of me. So I just left as I had no desire to waste another minute. I understand waiting for my turn but this was absurd. And I wasn't the only one waiting. Every person was waiting for over an hour. The room was packed and eventually ran out of seats. The receptionist actually advised a couple to reschedule because they wouldn't be seen until well past their appointed time. Would've been nice to have been notified a bit earlier if the back up was this long. After being in business for 20 years, one would expect a Dr's office to have a clue about wait times and plan accordingly. But I experienced a similar situation at their Naperville office. I can understand that delays/emergencies can occur but to experience these ridiculous wait times on different days in different office makes me believe this is a common failing for this business. If you respect your own time at all, I would stay as far away as possible because they obviously don't respect it. read more

This office mailed a bill to an address where we had not lived for almost three years despite having updated our address with the office, then sent us to collections for non payment, all without ever contacting us. During this time, other members of our family were in the office. No one said a word about it to us. The office updated our address in their system for some, but not all of our family. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME! Dawn Phillips does not seem to know what she's doing. Gave me a wrong prescription for glasses, two weeks later she does not recall giving me a prescription at all. After reminding her she says it is my fault that the prescription is wrong. That is after I got new glasses with the prescription she provided already. I had a potentially emergent situation develop yesterday. I called the office for my former eye doctor and got the after hours recording, which suggested that for an emergency I call Dr. Phillips' office. I did so, got their recording, which said if it was an emergency, to call the Doctor, and gave his number. This was at 9:30 pm! He answered personally, listened to my symptoms, assured me that it was not as bad as I feared, and offered to let me follow up with my own doctor, or he would see me before office hours this morning. I went to see him, and found a highly professional office, great service, and a doctor who takes the time to listen and explain.
