Odd since the only info you need for an appointment is the patient's name and birth date. The remaining "personal" information would be the policy holder of the insurance which would be me. Pretty sure my 21 YO doesn't know who the insurer is, my birth date or the last four of my SSN which is what they need to submit the insurance claim. Not sure that the less than user friendly staff understands the concept of HIPAA in this context. I am the person providing all the of the "personal" information. Never been told I couldn't make an appointment for someone in my family because of HIPAA. Happy to take my business elsewhere.

This was especially important, she thought, since I had recovered from a torn retina and really should seek specialists when it comes to my eyes. She was completely right, of course. I found Dr. Lam via positive Yelp and Google reviews. I'm so thankful that I did! He was personable and very thorough in his exam. He explained that the blurred vision in my post-surgical eye (from the pneumatic retinopexy/retina surgery) was in fact cataracts. He indicated that I was overdue for surgery since my vision was so negatively impacted. Dr. Lam did my cataract surgery about a month later. It was deemed a success with at least 20/20 vision. Unfortunately, there was blurring over my lens. Dr. Lam explained that I'd need a follow-up laser procedure. Dr. Lam did this laser surgery, a capsulotomy, a few days ago. After resting/napping later that afternoon, I opened my eyes and had clear, unencumbered vision out of my 2x surgery eye! This is the first time I've had at least 20/20 since 1st grade! It's been a long 13 month journey with two eye surgeries and 1 minor procedure, but thankfully, my vision is even better than it was. Dr. Lam is very experienced. In my opinion, he uses tools to accurately and fully assess one's eyes. I felt 100% comfortable with him at all times (a little less with some Medical Technicians if I'm being honest..). He's answered all questions, often fully explaining/anticipating questions even before I have a chance to ask. He also approached treatment more conservatively; for example, he recommended waiting several months post-cataract surgery before having the capsulotomy since lasering too early could re-tear my retina. My capsulotomy was nearly 13 months after my retinal surgery. I'm thankful to Dr. Lam and have great confidence in his abilities! I'm so happy to have found such a capable opthalmologist.

Headed home on Sunday and had a local Toronto AM talk radio station on and they were doing a show on LASIK. Being myopic I was interested in the technology for possible use on me. They had this doctor on who was so interesting and so knowledgable. The fact is he practically invented modern Ophthalmic surgery. As the show went on I was stunned to find out this man had his office in Hinsdale and hell's bells I lived in Oak Brook. I made the appointments to get it done. Dr. Foulkes was even more engaging in person and we talked shop and also talked about an array of topics all of which he was seriously prepared for discourse. This is one smart man. I told him after the exam that if he could get me to 20/40 I was in. He fixed me with a penetrating gaze and said: "If I can't get you to 20/20 I won't take you." Well he looked at my tests snd said he could 20/20 me. I did the procedure and went home, napped for four hours and KAZAAAM! I could see again. It was a religious experience. Then I found out Dr Foulkes failed to get me to 20/20. I tested at 20/15. An in the park Grand Slam. My vision is still 20/15 and I'm 64 years of age. Of course I wear readers, but nothing prescription. Just Dollar Store magnifiers. Dr. Foulkes is a bespoke health care provider and you will pay a small premium to see an industry legend. Pay the two dollars. Get your Lasik from the best, or go blind like the rest. That's a little hyperbole. Are you seeing like looking through runny egg yolks? You need an appointment with the good Dr. Foulkes! It's all so very basic, go see Dr. Foulkes for your Lasik. I needed a seeing eye dog when I went to see him. I entered his reception area and grabbed the dog by the tail and swung that dog all over the room. Patients were diving for cover. Dr Foulkes intervened and asked what I was doing?I explained I was just taking a look around. I got a million of them. How many doctors do you meet in your lifetime that decades later you talk about in ways reserved for the veneration of saints?
