This was especially important, she thought, since I had recovered from a torn retina and really should seek specialists when it comes to my eyes. She was completely right, of course. I found Dr. Lam via positive Yelp and Google reviews. I'm so thankful that I did! He was personable and very thorough in his exam. He explained that the blurred vision in my post-surgical eye (from the pneumatic retinopexy/retina surgery) was in fact cataracts. He indicated that I was overdue for surgery since my vision was so negatively impacted. Dr. Lam did my cataract surgery about a month later. It was deemed a success with at least 20/20 vision. Unfortunately, there was blurring over my lens. Dr. Lam explained that I'd need a follow-up laser procedure. Dr. Lam did this laser surgery, a capsulotomy, a few days ago. After resting/napping later that afternoon, I opened my eyes and had clear, unencumbered vision out of my 2x surgery eye! This is the first time I've had at least 20/20 since 1st grade! It's been a long 13 month journey with two eye surgeries and 1 minor procedure, but thankfully, my vision is even better than it was. Dr. Lam is very experienced. In my opinion, he uses tools to accurately and fully assess one's eyes. I felt 100% comfortable with him at all times (a little less with some Medical Technicians if I'm being honest..). He's answered all questions, often fully explaining/anticipating questions even before I have a chance to ask. He also approached treatment more conservatively; for example, he recommended waiting several months post-cataract surgery before having the capsulotomy since lasering too early could re-tear my retina. My capsulotomy was nearly 13 months after my retinal surgery. I'm thankful to Dr. Lam and have great confidence in his abilities! I'm so happy to have found such a capable opthalmologist.

Wasted $8000.00 I had light adjustable lens implanted in…read moreboth eyes. The first light adjustment brought GREAT vision. After an examination Dr. Lam told me 'your vision is pretty good but we will fine tune it'. This was the downfall of my vision. After the second adjustment my vision was completely different. The distance and reading vision did not match as before. We did a third adjustment and the results were different again. The distance vision was good and matched. I had little intermediate vision and poor reading vision. At this point I could do a fourth adjustment but had no guarantee of improved results. I decided to do the lock in knowing that at least my distance would be good. When I told DR. Lam that the first adjustment was the best, he snapped at me and said it was do to it being a new lens. This was an expensive folly and I was the recipient of the joke

Odd since the only info you need for an appointment is the patient's name and birth date. The remaining "personal" information would be the policy holder of the insurance which would be me. Pretty sure my 21 YO doesn't know who the insurer is, my birth date or the last four of my SSN which is what they need to submit the insurance claim. Not sure that the less than user friendly staff understands the concept of HIPAA in this context. I am the person providing all the of the "personal" information. Never been told I couldn't make an appointment for someone in my family because of HIPAA. Happy to take my business elsewhere.
