I just hope that my insurance continues to allow me to see him. It is a shame to see what patients, physicians, and other allied healthcare professional go through when dealing with insurances.

The front office has deteriorated,Things change over time.  Dr. Barnes is still very professional and knows what he is doing.  His front office has seriously deteriorated.  Due to the impact of SARS-CoV-2 on the country fatality rate, I elected to wait until I obtained the two-shot sequence of the vaccine as well as the booster.  On 3 October, then the DuPage county 7-day average dropped to 146 daily (down from 248 in March) I called to make an appointment and the first available was 4 January.  Last Friday, my pharmacy tells me my prescription for eye drops was cancelled by the MD Office.  I called today where I was summarily scolded for having been away, and the prescription would no longer be renewed.  I was also told that the office had notified me of its impending termination (which is totally false.  I was never notified - verbally, by phone, message or mail).  It's not like my glaucoma has been cured.  Time to find a different office.

My eye exam was great, Dr. Anstadt did an awesome job and I don't have any complaints…read more However, the billing department completely messed up my insurance. I was billed under my health insurance and not my vision insurance that I pay extra for. I was charged a copay of $75, which I should have contested right then and there. But since it was my first exam on the new vision insurance, I waited to get home first before checking on what the copay should have been, which was only $10. I called the office right away to let them know the error, they said they would notify billing. After a couple weeks without hearing anything, I called and left a voicemail for the biller. The biller eventually returned my call a few days later and informed me there was no refund to be made. I later discovered they had actually billed both my health AND my vision insurance. At the end of the day, the vision insurance portion was cancelled by the eye center, and my health insurance portion stuck (likely because this netted the eye center a higher payment). Be very careful with the biller at this location and how your insurance is handled, and don't overpay your copay, they will not cooperate or be reasonable about it. They'll just keep the extra cash.

My experience today was with a fourth-year optometry student who is two weeks from graduating. She was kind, clear in her communication, patient, easy to talk with. It was a two-hour total experience--exactly how I was told it would probably be when I did the phone registration. Odd since the only info you need for an appointment is the patient's name and birth date. The remaining "personal" information would be the policy holder of the insurance which would be me. Not sure that the less than user friendly staff understands the concept of HIPAA in this context. I am the person providing all the of the "personal" information. Never been told I couldn't make an appointment for someone in my family because of HIPAA. Happy to take my business elsewhere.
