The doctors are OK, they get the job done, but after 30 years still don't even know their patients' names without reading them off a chart. Their prices are ridiculous, everything is over area average and costs you extra out of pocket. The office staff... TERRIBLE! When Kathi was there, everything ran fantastic, start to finish, you knew exactly what to expect. Now, it takes three of them to print a receipt and the office manager, Paula, is a gestapo on a power trip. She doesn't have a clue how to manage the staff or the office files, and she feels being "right" supersedes keeping the patients of doctors' she's employed by coming to this office. If you need quality service in an eye center, look elsewhere... They even auto schedule you for appointments and only notify you the week of after the rest of the month is full. read more

They charge a credit card fee. When you're buying expensive eyeglasses or contacts, this adds an unexpected charge onto your bill. If I would have realized in advance I would have brought my checkbook or cash. read more

Dr. Butzen and Kathy at the front desk are amazing! Other front desk staff are very rude and condescending. They were willing to let my eight years of business go instead of giving my son a free trial of contacts when he ran out and we were desperate for help. All because we didn't order this round of contacts from them. I had to order contacts in an emergency and they weren't open. We have paid very high prices and have spent thousands of dollars in exams, glasses and contacts. I called Visionworks and explained that my son had no glasses/contacts and we were desperate. They gave me the free trial without being a patient, never buying from them, etc. We have officially transferred our records there. read more

The staff was amazing and sweet!! My experience was overall really good! My only issue was the doctor spent about 5 minutes on my eye exam and about 20 minutes going on about politics. While I believe we all have a right to our own opinion especially when it comes to politics I don't think an eye exam is an appropriate place to be discussing that. Some of the reviews on here are older so it's never easy to take reviews from years ago with no recent updates. I can honestly say I was so happy to find this office on Yelp and that they were covered by both mine and my husband's insurances (we have separate insurance through our employers). From the first phone call for his appointment to me leaving today, I was satisfied with the personal level of service, care and knowledge of everyone there. He visited Dr. Cho first because he needed glasses to pass a mandatory eye exam for work and I figured while I was there to set myself up for an eye exam a week later. The associates at the desk were so helpful to pull up my insurance and have me complete the paperwork ahead of time it was convenient. They weren't pushy when it came to selecting glasses fit our needs and budget and it was great. I was even more impressed when I had my own visit. They use some new age, state-of-art, innovative technologies. It was so interesting to see the different ways they assess vision and how their tests help little kids too! My visit was with Dr. Butzon who was more than willing to give expert advice on my own needs. I was able to find glasses and get through everything quickly and was even given eye drops samples for my dry eyes. Can't wait to get back and get my glasses! read more

As a new patient, I couldn't be happier with this practice. Everyone was incredibly accommodating, especially Dr. Butzon. He explained everything in a clear manner and made sure I understood what he was doing. He also went the extra mile and did tests that other drs tend to skip. I was also amazed at all the high tech equipment that was used. Images of my eyes were taken and Dr. Butzon showed and explained what he was looking for as he scanned the images. Rude and incompetent staff. Plus the doctor wrote the Rx wrong TWO TIMES!!!!! How can a eye doctor write a perscription wrong.... twice!? Their attitude is crap. My family loves Dupage Optical! We've been seeing Dr. Butzon and his staff for years. They provide amazing, personal service. The kind of service you can't get at a chain place, with a revolving cast of eye doctors and staff. Dr. Butzon takes his time with each of us, and we never feel rushed. They remember us from year to year, and even if they really don't, they are great at making you feel like they do. His front desk staff goes out of their way to make sure that our insurance is billed properly, and that we are getting everything that is covered. They have a nice selection of high-quality frames, and they also have special "trunk sale" events throughout the year, where their distributors bring in hundreds of additional (and really cool) designer frames to choose from. read more

The only reason this place gets one star is because I can't give anything less if I want to write a review. Like many others have posted, I felt my visit here was more about how they can can profit off of me versus helping me with my eye care needs. On the phone I was told the total fees would be $54 and somehow I left paying $115 and didn't even get any contacts or glasses. So many things were wrong with this appointment. Prior to being seen by the doctor I was taken into a room to have imaging done and tests for glaucoma. The first machine they used was the glaucoma testing machine. They tested one eye and then the machine stopped working and the lady blamed the fact that it was an old machine (even though they can definitely afford a new one with all that they profit) so I only had one eye tested (even though I still get to pay for both!) Then, I got pictures of the oil glands in my eye. First of all, the machines were coated in other people's facial oils and were obviously not cleaned. Secondly, the lady taking these images on the LipiView used a plastic piece to pull my eyelid down, but did not wipe it off before or after using it which is directly exposing the eye to pathogens... This is a healthcare facility, I would think you would promote sanitation. Thirdly, the lady simply stated, "oh that's bad, that's really bad" and cringed after she took the picture, not explaining what it was or what it meant. Let me teach you guys a little something about therapeutic communication; you NEVER degrade your patients and always explain what you're doing and why. And if you can't explain the findings, don't you dare react to them. Now let's move on to Dr. Cho. After a quick contact lens fitting she tried to get me to buy the one day contacts which are very expensive and when I said no to that she tried to sell me on the orthoK contacts which are also extremely expensive. I told her I just wanted the same contacts I've been getting my whole life and she then tried to sell me on glasses. I told her I don't usually wear glasses because they make me dizzy and I don't like them and she gave me a look like I was insane. (Note: she gave me one day contacts as a trial and didn't tell me they were one day, so 1. I wore them for two weeks thinking they were monthly and 2. I assumed she was a good doctor and listened to what I was saying that I wanted monthly and I ordered a year supply because they fit well but they were delivered and were one day contacts!! Whoever posted about her being a "car salesman doctor" is SPOT ON) She then reviewed the images from earlier with me. While she did explain the findings more, she did so in a very rude and unsympathetic manner. She told me, "I've seen 85 year olds with better eyes". She made me feel as though the dying of my oil ducts was my own fault since I studied too much in school and wasn't closing my eyelids all the way. I'm so sorry Dr. Cho for wanting to succeed academically. After going home and crying because Dr. Cho made me feel at fault, unintelligent, and now broke, I decided to post this review to warn others. Overall, I am extremely disappointed in the cleanliness, customer service, and lack of adherence to basic patient care principles. Please find a more competent doctor to care for you, your friends, and family. read more

Dr Steve was great! He was very knowledgeable and was open to questions. He is skilled accurate and intelligent with a caring touch. I think this guy should run for president :) he's very balanced resolved but has many common sense solutions. We are new to Addison and he made our visit very pleasant. The girls in the front and the tech was very helpful as well. read more

I've been going to Dupage optical for a long time. I always feel very well taken care of when I'm there and my concerns are addressed without any rush. The staff is very friendly. When instructions are provided, they are very clear and easy to follow. The glasses I get from there is very good quality and I can see well. I have graduated trifocals so it can get tricky if it wasn't done right. I'm very please and recommend Dupage Optical. read more
