He and the medical assistant reviewed my chart, spoke amongst themselves, asked me a few questions, made notes, all with his back turned away from me, then sat down. Once he sat down, he then introduced himself (still no apology or acknowledgment of my presence) and told me that I'd have to see a retina specialist for the rest of my life without providing a clear explanation of my diagnosis. He then looked at my eye, prescribed medication, told me to schedule a follow-up and left. I left with no discharge paperwork/instructions/etc. I met with my primary the following day and explained my experience; she was shocked. She was able to pull my chart & give me a more thorough explanation. I'm thankful to my primary for getting an answer, but this was not her job. It's the disregard for me as a patient and the failure to even acknowledge me being in the room that makes me not trust this place. I'm currently looking elsewhere for my eye health needs.

Went to an optometrist and got my numbers, had her fill out the form, and paid, the office had decided that only my left eye needed to be corrected as I could still achieve 20/25 with my right eye if I strained to see the eye chart. Dr. McGlothan deemed that it would be best to do PRK in my left eye and see how it goes. It has now been about a year post-op from my PRK enhancement and my left eye is blurrier than ever, I feel like the measurements were done incorrectly or that there might've been something wrong with the data that was input into the laser. I now have double vision in my "enhanced" left eye, and more issues than ever with night driving, starburst, and halos. I will be attempting to get another enhancement done in both eyes with a different Surgeon to ensure the best results and to achieve the same 20/20 (or better) that I initially had after my first Lasik procedure.

Hi, I'm Caleb Stewart. I originally had Wavelight Optimized LASIK with Dr. Andrew E. Holzman at TLC…read moreRockville's location on August 6th, 2021. Initially, I had a great experience. Every staff member was sweet and I was confident that the surgery would go well. Unfortunately, there were a few red flags that I will list below. 1. The technicians there claimed that my prescription was stable when it wasn't and my vision quickly regressed after a year. Furthermore, I had prior dry eye disease and the technicians lied and stated that it wouldn't be an issue...now I have a severe case years out. 2. I didn't get to meet with my surgeon to discuss risk of complications, if I'm a true candidate or not etc. 3. The staff didn't explain other alternatives such as ICL and didn't give a solid recommendation on what path to take. If I was told to wait until my mid 20s I probably would've had a better outcome and less chance of regression. 4. TLC decided to change the location of the surgery from Tyson's Corner to Rockville last minute also modifying the laser as well which could have had an effect on my overall outcome. Suddenly, when I developed all these complications TLC offered little to no help in contrast to how I was assisted pre-op. I now have day-time starbursts, haloes and severe dry eye which induces irregular astigmatism...causing awful ghosting that can only be possibly fixed through scleral lenses or extensive dry eye treatment. I've had to quit many of my hobbies and it made my quality of life way worse for a while. They only offered "enhancement" surgeries to improve my vision which are not FDA approved and make complications worse for many patients. I'm still not comfortable with my vision at 23, a little over two years out and feel like I got scammed and betrayed by the center. They also didn't give me a refund as well despite my efforts to be polite and courteous about the situation. What makes the situation worse is that I had to go out of my way to see my original surgeon since he opened up his own company just to see what occurred. I was given pupil-shrinking drops and was shrugged off and told that everything was in my head, it was very disheartening. I've had to take so much initiative seeing all kinds of specialists just to get help, it's very draining for a young man to go through and I'm thoroughly disappointed with my experience here. I'll attach some photos below of my prescription before and after and various photos of symptoms that I suffer with to this day. This surgery has ruined my early 20s due to the complications that I face daily. I'm stuck with poor vision that does not hold a candle to how it was before surgery and I am stuck with fluctuating ghosting vision. The center asked that I provide a $200 payment to sign up for a "lifetime plan" to get a second surgery which is not FDA approved. They are a joke. The center only has one line of communication (patient care manager team) and have no ounce of empathy and compassion in their bodies whatsoever. If you develop complications and issues, expect to be on your own and not get any assistance at all from TLC. Whenever I would reach out for genuine help and the ability to obtain a refund or at least some compensation they couldn't do anything. It's hilarious because whenever I mention making a payment towards my surgery they are enthusiastic and respond quickly but other than that, crickets. Please do not get refractive surgery if it's not needed, my life is now ruined thanks to these people. I can't enjoy my hobbies 100% like I used to or start to drive. My vision is like this day in day out 24/7 to give you an idea - https://imgur.com/a/gZnTHj8 https://imgur.com/a/2swivr9 I'll be posting pictures below of how my vision was and my general interactions with both Dr. Holzman, his company and TLC.

I live in the city but made the trip out to Arlington Heights for my consult, then went to their Lombard location for the surgery about two and a half weeks later, and came back to Arlington Heights the next day for the post op. Totally worth it. From start to finish, everything moved efficiently but never felt rushed. On the day of surgery, they took their time with the preoperative steps, did another full workup, checked my corneas again, and the surgeon personally evaluated me before getting started. That gave me real peace of mind. People kept insisting I would need a Valium or something to calm my nerves, but I didn't need it at all. The team was calm, confident, and made me feel completely safe. When it was time, the actual procedure felt like it took three minutes, and that was it. They made sure I understood everything before and after surgery, gave me a full kit with everything I needed, and treated me with respect the whole way through. Now I can see so crystal clear, I'm babying my eyes like they're made of gold. It feels illegal to see this perfect. Already hit 20/20 the day after surgery and looking forward to hitting that 20/15 soon. For the price, it is a no brainer. This is not a big box conveyor belt type of place. It is professional, personal, and thorough. Highly recommend if you want real results without the fluff.

I am now exactly a week post-op. I had an unexpected experience here. I came for my initial visit…read moreand was told I was good for lasik. I did ask about PRK because I read about it in the reviews and the doctor told me that I didn't need to worry about it. Little did he know, that I did need to know about it. I was one of those patients that were really nervous about the process. I think the employees working with the doctor need to do a better job at comforting us very nervous patients. First of all, it doesn't help waiting two hours in the waiting room for your turn. It just made me more nervous and because of Covid, I couldn't have anyone with me. While waiting, I did notice that the procedure was taking people an average of just 10 minutes. Anyway, continuing on, I went and during my procedure on my second eye, I flinched. This must have damaged my flap and therefore I had to switch over to PRK for my left eye. This has changed my recovery almost completely. With the lasik eye, you can see perfectly almost immediately. I had no pain in recovery. It was really amazing and just felt more grateful to my creator for such technology. Seeing is truly a blessing! With the other eye, PRK, recovery is a lot different. I didn't know, I didn't do my research because I was told I don't need to worry about it. Even in my papers, there's a question that if you want PRK or not, I circled "no" and then had to change it during the procedure. Now a week later, my left eye is still blurry, but that's normal for PRK. There was a lens over my eye that served as a bandage that was removed yesterday. People who did PRK say that it takes time for the vision to improve. You have to keep up with your drops and I'm hoping that my vision will be great in a few weeks. Overall, it's a great office. Dr. Berger has done the most amount of lasik surgeries in the area. It's a very easy procedure, so don't flinch! You'll be fine. Highly recommend and their price is unbeatable.

I had a chilling experience with Dr. Mohammad Al-Khudari and strongly urge others to reconsider…read moreyour option to receive surgery here. Do not take your safety for granted. The short version: I was refused service here because Dr. Al-Khudari was intimidated by my pre-op questions. Because I asked about the percentage rate of clients who ended up with side-effects, he informed me that I would regret receiving the operation, even though I had been approved as an excellent candidate (ostensibly because he is not confidant enough in his ability or success rate to discuss those numbers honestly or to perform surgery on someone who cares to ask). The long version: I was approved as an excellent candidate by my optometrist. Then, I was approved as an excellent candidate by Dr. Pappas at Oakbrook LASIK who did my intake testing. I was approved by the clinic for surgery and scheduled my operation date. The Surgical Manager, Chelsea, told me during my consultation to email her with any questions, so a few days later I did that. She responded only to say she would have someone else answer my questions. That's the last I heard from their office. I emailed twice more and called twice over the following 3 weeks, trying to get a response to my questions; no one responded. On the day of my appointment, Dr. Pappas checked my prescription and again said I was all good to go ahead with surgery as planned. Finally, I met my surgeon, Dr. Al-Khudari. He arrived and began rapid-firing questions at me, barely allowing me time to respond before interrupting with his next question (anachronistically, he asked my name about half-way through the interview). When his questions were done, I mentioned I had some questions of my own. It seems he was already aware of my questions because before I could ask them, he began to steer the conversation down a strange course. He told me he did not recommend this operation for me and repeated several times the phrase, "you'll regret it". He concocted a flimsy, non-sequitur excuse about my eyesight naturally improving on its own as I age enough that I will be able to read without glasses in four years (something I've never heard from an optometrist in my life) and that receiving this operation would stop the chances of that natural improvement and that I would regret it. --If this part of the story seems confusing or unlikely to you, it's because it was both confusing and unlikely, though true.-- He mumbled something in passing about my concern about side-effects, tipping me off that he had been aware of my questions. He stone-walled further conversation, clearly unwilling to face an honest discussion with me. I left. Honestly, I was in minor shock afterwards, realizing that even in context of modern medicine, where patients should be fully empowered to collect all pertinent information regarding their care, there are doctors who still believe themselves to be so far above reproach that they can not deign to field any sort of questioning of their complete infallibility. That type of arrogance in a surgeon is dangerous. I feel I dodged a bullet and I encourage everyone considering entrusting the fate of your precious eyesight to any surgeon (and especially this one) to ASK QUESTIONS and take nothing for granted. You are responsible for your own best care. If you're wondering what these offending questions are that I asked, here they are, exactly from my email to Chelsea: 1. Would you please provide the success rate for this specific Oakbrook location and my doctor, Dr. Mohammad Al-Khudari? What percentage of his patients achieve 20/20 vision or better? 2. Would you please provide the rate of complications and side effects for this specific location and doctor? What percentage of your/his patients have had serious long-term complications? (I consider serious complications to be; loss of vision, loss of best corrected vision, infection, or malfunctioning of the machine during the procedure.) What percentage of your/his patients have temporary side-effects? (Including ulcers, ptosis, swelling, retinal detachment, and all of the conditions listed in the "Visual Side Effects" paragraph in your pamphlet? What percentage of your/his patients have less-serious, but long-term or permanent side effects, including dry eye, blurry vision, starbursts at night, etc. for longer than a year? 3. How do your/his complication rates compare to the national average? 4. Are there any patient stories or reviews specifically regarding side-effects or complications and how you addressed the issue with the patient and the final result, that you would be willing to share?
