Why haven't I reviewed this place yet? I've been here quite a few times. I seem to always get the same thing, the Nortena. Whether it's the delicious warm and soft bread, the re fried beans, the fresh avocado, the tomatoes, or the onions, I don't know. The meat is always tender and delicious. No gristle here. Go here and get whatever they tell you to. When i feel like changing it up, I just ask them and they pick something random and I go with it. IT IS ALL GOOD. I took my mother here once and she had the carnitas something or other. It was also delicious. Remember to grab a bag of Mexican chips and a Jarritos. You can walk out of here with all that for around $11 bucks. Not bad for a really satisfying and FILLING meal. I usually stop by J pad and grab a Corona and take it all home and stuff my face. I've ben itching to eat here for a while due to the great reviews on Yelp. I'm a sandwich and hamburger fanatic and snob. Anxious to try a new type of food! I was happy that I tried something I've never eaten before and it was delicious! I had the Nortena and it was a nice meaty heafty meal. The flavors of the food blended nicely with the soft, grilled bread. A lot is going on in this hamburger (as in a lot of toppings) but that's how I like to eat my food. What's a torta? Oh, a Mexican sandwich... Stopped by for the first time, after passing by & wondering what torta could be. Picked up the menu, and realized my Español was rather rusty. Right next to the Spanish menus were the English ones. A Torta has a wonderful mix of garnishes, including cheese, chipotle bbq sauce, avocado onion and tomato. Now it's just a matter of picking the primary protein. Steak Barbacoa sounded nice, but alas, not available today. Chicken & Chorizo? Hmm, give it a try... What a delicious sandwich! My friend recommended this place for lunch. I am always open to try something new and different. So what exactly is a Torta? It is a Mexican sandwich served on a warm toasted roll. My friend and I got a Torta de Jalisco that had Steak and Chicken with Mayo, Avocado, and Tomato. Now you're thinking.. What a basic sandwich but OH MY GOD. Talk about a mouthgasm!!!!!! The portion was huge enough for us to share one. I got full from eating just half of the Torta. Thinking we could eat more, we actually ordered two Tortas. The next one was called the Las Macha had Pork Carnitas, Chicken, Chorizo, Hot Dog, Fried Egg, Onion, Avocado and Tomato. Lord Jesus this one was also a winner!! After reading the Yelp weekly lauding this place for awesome Mexican, I couldn't wait to get over here. Don't be scared by its 'strip mall' location, adjacent to one of our many local marijuana dispensaries. After checking out the small, but awesome selections of Tortas, my wife ordered the Pachuquena and I got the Ahogado Tradicional. Apparently not many non-Mexican's ordered my selection as the response was "Are you Sure?" Then when he asked Hot or Mild, my wife responded "Test Him" - never a good sign when the two guys making your sandwich have that sneaky grin. Anyway, the food was outstanding - the meat was SO tender! Despite the fact that my mouth was quivering due to the heat by the end, I wanted the sandwich to never end. My wife's was equally as awesome. I also had a couple Marg's - yep, you may think by their great taste, that there is no Tequila. Like my sandwich, the alcohol also snuck up on me. We ended up chatting with a couple of the 'servers' - they were super nice and gave some great suggestions for next time. I am definitely going with the Cubana! Pretty good grilled meat sandwiches. Not mind blowing, as some yelpers want you to believe. - Menu is nearly all tortas filled with seasoned meat. Many include chopped hot dogs. No vegetarian options. - Their tortas have a ton of flavor, not too spicy, and quite tasty. They're big enough to fill up most adults' stomachs. - Their tortas have a ton of bread, too much in my opinion. Would be better with less bread, maybe a tortilla! They would make a great burrito, but there are none on the menu. - Interior is modern and colorful, which is surprising given the exterior appearance. - A bit pricey for being basically a taqueria. $25 for two tortas and two drinks. Okay now, let me see, why was it again that I haven't been to this place sooner? Hmmm...oh, right! It's because, after hearing all the hype around the neighborhood and reading the other Yelp reviews, I had a feeling that these sandwiches would be highly addictive and my waistline does not need another reason to expand. Yep, that was it! I freely confess that I am somewhat of a picky eater. Taken individually, all of the "condiment" ingredients on the torta leave me underwhelmed. But sandwich them all together with some freshly grilled meat inside that pillowy-soft bread and it's like a party in your mouth. My grilled chicken torta also came with jalapenos on the side so I could add exactly the right amount of kick. Oh, mama! I can't wait to try some of the other menu offerings. I love Las Tortas! The first time I came here, I was a little apprehensive as I had never had a torta, but was glad to learn that Yelp didn't steer me in the wrong direction. I always order the Nortena with no tomato or onion, and am happy to report that it is always delicious. Las Tortas also carries some tasty Mexican-brand of chips that are crazy tasty and Mexican coke (which is way better than American coke if you have never tried it). The biggest complaint I have about Las Tortas is the location / parking lot. Sometimes it takes FOR-EV-ER to make it back out onto Leetsdale with the traffic, but I guess that comes with the territory. read more

Went here on the way to the airport after a week of skiing based on yelp reviews. My choice, wife none to happy with the appearance of the neighborhood/part of town. One word. Amazing!!! Had the "francis". Maybe the best sandwich I've ever had. The chorizo absolutely makes the sandwich. Wife's mind changed a nanosecond after her torta registered on her taste buds. Absolutely excellent food! They only seem to sell tortas (Mexican panini sandwiches, quesadillas and a salad. No burritos or tacos. This is a friendly and casual place at the end of an older strip mall. But, definitely worth the trip and older center. At their suggestion I had the Nortena. Fantastic. In the interests of "sport eating" I also, ordered the carnitas quesadilla, which comes with avocado and a small plastic ramekin of a really good and unique green sauce. Mexican sandwiches? Who knew? I'm not a huge fan of Mexican food. I think it's good, but it doesn't capture my heart like it does for many in the Rocky Mountains. One Friday I took off a half day, went to a dentist's appointment. A few hours later, I was absolutely ravenous and I was looking for something close by, but didn't want the same ol' burger, chain food. I pulled out my trusty iPhone and searched the Yelp app. Found in the nearby area was Las Tortas. I pass this place all the time, but never thought about stopping in. I was in for a treat.I tried the Jalisco torta and it was delicious. I definitely have plans to try it again. I was a bit worried as my Spanish is rusty, but the menu is in Spanish and English. I had great service and everyone was patient with me while I decided on my order. The bolillo roll is heavenly. Tortas are apparently from the Guadalajaran region of Mexico, which is quite interesting as I stayed in Guadalajara for 5 weeks in 1992. I wasn't familiar with the torta, during my stay. Las Tortas, tortas virgin...no more! I've never been to Las Tortas, let alone eaten a torta. First time experience can only be described as deliciousness in my stomach. The menu breaks down fairly easy for first timers and the staff is very friendly and more than willing to help you out. All tortas come with layers of "condiments," ie beans, mayo, tomato, avocado (the best topping ever), etc. You can choose your own meat combination or a torta from their "named" menu. Everything is made to order, so there is a little bit of wait time, but all good things are worth waiting for. The restaurant is clean, smartly decorated, welcoming, and with more than enough seating for those who dine in. Oh delicious Tortas! With your glowing neon light screaming open with delicious freshly prepared sandwiches o' wonder. Filling me in my hour of need. This place is open until 9 most nights, so not a great late night spot. But, boy do I wish it was. Seriously, how great would tortas be at 11, 12, 1 or 2? I could eat a delicious torta like the ones prepared here almost any hour of the day. AND! It's not on Federal! No offense, but If you are on the East side of Denver, Federal is not close! Oh well. The food here is filling and you satisfy your hunger for under ten bucks. The interior is clean and most closely resembles a fast food restaurant. This places specializes in thick, meaty, Mexican sandwiches. The decor inside is nothing to be spoken of -- don't take a date here. It basically looks like school cafeteria 2.0. I can appreciate understated decor, but really, there's nothing to mention here. The food was good but it really did not cross my 4 star theshold. We got two types of sandwiches and tried both. Let me preface this review the same way I preface all my reviews of restaurants. I care little about service, and less about atmosphere. If either one of those are exceptional (bad of good) that will account in my opinion of a restaurant but generally all I care about is the food. Now for the good stuff, or in this case the great stuff. Las Tortas was my first torta experience, as it is clear across town for me, naturally I have tried several other torta joints between it and my apartment. I have had some success and even found a little gem that makes my second favorite torta. At the end of the day though, Las Tortas can't be touched. My favorite torta is the Lambada (fried egg, chorizo and pork loin). They cook the meat and eggs as you order them on a flat top behind the register. The pork cut into cubes and is very good quality, the chorizo is not too spicy, and who could complain about a fried egg. The toppings, beans, avocado, tomato, onion, cheese and chipotle sauce work together perfectly. I recommend getting them all on the sandwich to start even if you don't like one or two of them so you can taste the sandwich as is it made to be enjoyed, the bread is also very solid. For me a good sandwich should have all ingredients work together in perfect harmony, no one ingredient standing out above the rest. One of the best examples of this is Las Tortas. read more

I enjoyed their Mexican drinks and the tortas, to my surprise, was much bigger and more filling than I anticipated. When I first entered the place, the kitchen smelled great! My mouth was salivating while I was waiting for my friend to arrive. Unfortunately, the tortas did not taste as good as it smelled. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't bad. Finally stopped by on a passing whim. I remembered reading about Las Tortas and had to give them a try. Stop by early afternoon and they were fairly busy but no real wait. Ordered the Jalisco Torta, Chicken and Steak, with everything on it. Ordered it togo but the smell made it impossible to not drive and eat! Torta did not disappoint and, as many Yelpers have commented, was fresh and hot with great flavor. The telera / bread was fantastic; despite being a fairly light density bread, it still withstood all the delicious ingredients piled into it! I would love to actually sit down and take the time to enjoy a fresh Torta and a few Modelos at the restaurant. A couple of quick points....you may want to either visit the website or maybe study a take out menu for some reconnaissance work as it takes some effort to really consider all the different combinations on the fly at the counter. Not really a complaint but more a personal preference - I would probably order the avocado on the side since I prefer the avocado not get heated but I didn't have trouble consuming it at the time!!! read more

One of the best sandwiches I've ever had. I haven't really tried a lot of authentic Mexican food before so I can't speak to that, but in terms of yumminess this is incredible. I got the norteña, which they recommended. Bread was perfect combo of toasted and soft in the inside, it came loaded with lots of meat and veggies and was packed with flavor. Boyfriend got the cubana and it was packed to the brim. I think I liked his a little better just because it came with so much meat (haha). We both also got the horchata drink, which I was really looking forward to, but it was a little watery. That was the only somewhat disappointing part. Will definitely come back often. read more

One of the few restaurants I tried in Denver that actually had some good flavors. I got a chorizo-pastor torta (sandwich) with pineapple, veggies, no bean. Bread was crispy and flavors were on point! There are certain restaurants which perform their specialty so well, they put nearly all other restaurants to shame. Las Tortas is one of those places. Las Tortas has truly perfected... you guessed it... tortas. Tortas are basically Mexican sandwiches, and the Las Tortas variety can only be explained as the greatest panini you will ever eat. These Las Tortas' sandwiches come in a variety of meats, perfectly pressed and topped with cheese, onions, lettuce, avocado, a hint of beans, and an incredible chipotle sauce. A jalapeño is included on the side for those looking for a kick. The bread has beautiful markings from the press, which adds just the slightest perfect crunch before you get to the pillow soft, airy white bread inside. The meat is juicy and each bite sends the mixture of toppings running over the meat for yet even more tenderness and flavor. Im telling you, these things really are perfection. I go with the Norteña, but I'm pretty sure you could throw darts at a board here and be fine. In conclusion, go to Las Tortas, have one of the best sandwiches you've ever tasted, and join the club who can't stop thinking about these. read more

Our initial adventure at finding this location turned out to be quite a silly one, but upon arrival, Las Tortas didn't disappoint! After about 10 minutes of staring at the menu, which appears simple but proved to be anything but, I went with the $4.99 steak barbacoa sandwich, piled high with cheese, beef, avocado slices, mayo, refried beans & chipotle sauce. The store is clean, service very friendly & everything is made right in front of you & very quickly. Having made a couple visits now, this is a sandwich that will leave you craving more. The tortas here are super tasty. They're guilty pleasures, given the size of the tortas and the rather fatty ingredients in them (cheese, mayo, grease). I love how they put them in a panini press. I must admit, I don't conclusively know where the best tortas are in the Denver area. On the flipside, though, I can't imagine any other place has better tortas than can be found at the aptly named Las Tortas. The restaurant is on a busy strip of Leetsdale, and seems to be busy enough to keep the food fresh and staff moving quickly. I went with the Norteno torta for lunch, which was headlined by some flavorful carne asada. It more than filled me up, and was a simply delicious blend of ingredients (including cheese, avocado and more) that were quickly served up on tasty bread. I noticed several other combinations on the menu that sounded really good, as well. Also, Las Tortas had a Spanish and English book lending library in the rear of the restaurant, which was kind of neat. After reading other reviews of Las Tortas I was expecting a real "hole in the wall" type place. Although it's located in a small strip mall, I was pleasantly surprised by the interior of this small but wonderful restaurant. It has that Chipotle-ish type decor - with stainless steel and wood. They have made it very comfortable. What really delighted me however was how fabulous the tortas are. My husband and I split a torta containing carnitas, chicken and mexican cheese. Also available, and included a no-extra-charge is lettuce, tomato, avocado (perfectly ripe and creamy), onions and chipotle sauce. The bread, or bun, was perfectly soft on the inside and crusty (grilled panini style). The flavors worked together perfectly - none overpowering the other. Yum...really YUM! We go out to lunch a lot (see other reviews) and have tried many places that we've liked but will probably not go back to - so many restaurants, so little time - but we will, I'm certain, become regulars at Las Tortas. read more

LOVE these tortas. LOVE. This place dishes out the best tortas that I've had in Denver so far. A friend/co-worker moved into a place a couple blocks from here. Las Tortas is our go-to place for lunch breaks. The service is fast and the price is right for the amount of delicious torta you get.
